If you haven't yet made the jump to broadband internet access, you may be confused over all the options and terminology. Cable vs. DSL? Home networking? Routers? Gaskin does an excellent job in this book to explain everything you need to know to make the move. The flow of the book is well-done, in that it moves from "why do you need broadband" to "here's how you decide which option is best". Even for those of us who have had broadband for awhile, it's a good read to catch up on some other options that are becoming more viable, such as broadband over power lines. The writing is clear and concise, without falling into endless jargon that defies the reader to understand it.

This book would have helped me out immensely when I made the jump from a slower DSL line to 3MB cable internet access. Since we have a number of computers in the home, I wasn't quite sure how to make sure I did and bought the right things to allow me to get them all to access the internet. Although I ended up being successful at the whole setup, there was a lot of fear and trepidation on my part. With Gaskin's book, I would have been much more confident up front. Even now, there's some information in here that will help me debug an issue I'm having with communication between two of the computers.

For a single source of understandable information on moving to high-speed internet access, you won't go wrong with this book. Highly recommended.

Chinese American Children & Families: A Guide for Educators & Service Providers is a straightforward summary of Chinese beliefs and cultural practices that American educators, health care workers and service providers need to know when working with the Chinese-American community. Chapters address not only beliefs prevalent in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, but also how living amidst American culture has influenced the traditional ways of doing things especially for second and third-generation Chinese. Topics covered include cultural views of disabilities and emotional or belief-system oriented impediments to seeking help for a disabled child, folk nutritional practices, attitudes toward education, child-rearing practices, family composition and structure, and more among Chinese-Americans. A plain-terms, easy-to-understand overview, highly recommended for anyone who needs to work with Chinese-American communities.

This book is an excellent guide for any health care provider who deals with managed care. Mr. Welfeld's expertise and writing style make this seemingly boring topic a little easier to swallow.

Been working in the field for 15 years. This is the most complete reference, with all the NECESSARY facts, and not alot of unnecessary data.

Are you in a service business? If so, you could learn a lot from reading this book. Based on solid research and keen insight, the book explains why people feel service is getting worse in America. It postulates two basically different ways service providers relate to their customers: in "relationships" and in "encounters." Choosing the right way to provide service (and avoiding "pseudorelationships," is vital to the success or failure of a service business.

I happened across this book in a college library several yearsago, when I was teaching forecasting to industrial and systemsengineers and doing research on health care. I have been searching for a copy ever since.

MacStravic does as good as job as I have seen anywhere of presenting the major techniques of forecasting clearly and thoroughly. He includes topics, such as Markov Chain methods in market analysis (don't panic, it's easy enough to understand as he presents it), I have not seen in any of the widely used textbooks on forecasting. The examples come from health care, but the methods are applicable just about anywhere.

So, if you're interested in the most useful forecasting methods for business analysis, get Amazon.com to track down a copy of this book for you -- AFTER they've found me one!
