While I was preparing a paper to Bilisim'06 (Information and telecommunication technology conference - 2006) took place in Ankara, I needed some historical data concerning the first wireless installation in Turkey, and I found this book in the Internet. It is very comprehensive book giving the most important information concerning the deployment of wire and wireless telegraph network in the World as well as the first transmitter in Istanbul installed in 1912. I really recommend this book to the reseachers for history of telecommunications.

This book, number 26 in the Institution of Electrical Engineers' History of Technology series, records the growth of telegraphy over two centuries, depicting the discoveries and ingenuity of the experimenters and engineers involved, the equipment they designed and built, and the organization, applications and effects on society. The two main phases - cable-based techniques that began in the early 19th century and then wireless transmission in the 20th century - parallel the changes in voice and information communications seen recently. Modern methods of data compaction, coding and encryption in today's communications all have their roots in the techniques of the telegraph pioneers. The book provides an excellent overview of telegraphy from the earliest mechanical systems to the beginnings of the Internet.
The history of submarine cables is well-covered in its own chapter of 47 pages; the bibliography in this chapter includes some useful references to more obscure sources. This chapter also includes information on early technology of submarine cables, the discovery of gutta percha insulation, the first cable to cross the English Channel and other short cables, the first oceanic cables, theory and techniques of transmission, Thomson's mirror galvanometer, cable-laying technology, the cables to North America, India, China and Japan, Africa, and Australia. Like the rest of the book, the submarine cable chapter contains many illustrations and diagrams from contemporary publications.
The book gives a comprehensive overview of the history of telegraphy; the extensive bibliographies at the end of each chapter provide ample resources for more detailed research. Recommended.

What a lovely companion to teaching children the correct way to recite the Rosary. I found this to be thorough and enjoyable for varied ages. It also gives some background into why we pray the Rosary and the meditations involved. I have used other guides but have found this the best in leading children(age 7 and up)in their love of the Rosary.

This is one of the most interesting books I have read in my entire college career. It has opened up a whole new world for me in Human Resource Management. Everyone should take the time to read this book, and for you fellas ... chicks dig guys who know about Human Resource Management (trust me). This author must be a heck of a guy!

Buckley and Ebert give it two thumbs up! Possibly the best literary achievement of this millennium. Great book for reading on the beach, at parties, or after a long day of boring studying. This is a must have for anyone interested in Human Resource Management. And even if you're not, this will get you interested. Buy yours today. Did we mention he is the best professor in the world?

This is such a wonderful book, full of life, emotion, and intelligence. Feraca infuses every experience, ordinary and extraordinary, with so much perception, compassion, and generosity that it's a total joy to read.

Feraca writes the way Vermeer paints. Even the shadows in this memoir are luminous. Her stories are filled with a love that is not just emotional. The characters we meet (mother, father, aunt, brother, husband) are like something from Dostoyevsky, filled with passion, hilarity, trouble, and love. Feraca is a great storyteller, and a poet. She leads me to momentarily dwell with her characters' hearts and behind their eyes. When I finished reading I had a much greater appreciation for the quirky folks in my own life. Read this book!

This is a different, fun, creative, interesting and challenging Lucy book. I loved it.

It also has a nice array of black and white photos that have been tastefully tinted to match the contents and color scheme of the book. While the photos are litely "hazed", the quality is excellent in comparison to the disappointing 50th Anniversary Book. There is also a complete episode log in the back for reference and answers to all the trivia questions and games. This is truly a great book if you want to brush up on your Lucy history or test your knowledge of I Love Lucy! This book is really a treat for every fan!

I am thrilled to see this definitive biography on Agnes Moorehead in print again. I enjoy having both editions since the covers are different. There is also new material in the back of the book. I especially liked Tranberg's lecture material being added to the book. This is a must-have collectible for fans of radio, TV, and any of Agnes's film projects.

For those who didn't think Tranberg could improve on the perfection of the first edition - guess again! There are even more tidbits of information contained in these pages, including an amazing epilogue by premiere Bewitched historian Herbie J. Pilato Bewitched Forever: 40th Anniversary Edition. A great addition to the collections of both those who have read/own the first one as well as those who haven't gotten around to buying one yet.

This series ( I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue) is one of the most popular ever broadcast in the United Kingdom. It appeals on many levels -- the quick wits of the panel; the double meanings implied in some of the answers; and in general just unoffensive fun which does not have to be censured for delicate ears. I travel by car frequently and for long mountainous distances, and these guys are my constant companions. I've gotten many curious looks from other travellers as I sat at a red light or a railroad crossing so obviously laughing out loud. If you are a fan of "play on words" and rapid repartee you will love I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue, and will lobby the BBC to release more than the 9 programs they have so far shared with us!

What do you expect from a book of Limericks from the long running radio comedy show? Wordsworth?

These constitute the cutting edge of modern limericks from some of the best (or worst, depending whether you like puns etc) wordsmiths in the business. This is the ideal book to set beside your loo.

As an RF engineer, involved in Wireless Network Design and Implementation, I found this book the most resourceful in my personal library. It is a perfect blend of all Wireless Technologies, Cellular, Wireless and also IP. What I appreciated most was that the book covered all my needs. If you need to know antenna theory and digital modulation techniques, on top of Wireless technologies, you need not spend time and money on other texts. The contents of this book will no doubt be helpful to everyone, from graduates and engineers to academics. I personally congratulate the authors for the great job!

It is a very well organized textbook. Authors first explain reasons (economic and technical) for IP-3G convergence. Major conceptual differences between IP and mobile communications, on standardization processes, network approaches, connectivity, design approaches are compared in order to highlight difficulties for such a converged solution. Then three major issues are examined in details: session management & SIP protocol, QoS and Mobility Management (macro and micro). Last, authors discuss what is next: All-IP 3G and beyond.
This is an excellent book about the subject, for its coverage, simplicity and appropriate references and 'further readings' lists given at the end of each chapter.

Primary focus of this book is protocols for 3G/UMTS networks. This book covers 3G concepts in some detail but pays attention mostly on network side and protocols. Which makes this book a must to have together with Kaaranen's and/or Korhonen's book. Contents is light in maths and easy to read. Very good diagrams and plain English. A concise and easy to access content makes this book very useful. Read at once and get the idea how it works. Warmly recommended.
