Disappointing and genericReview Date: 2003-02-26
It is a very good practical approach to business and marketing, but you could easily replace every instance of "music" or "jingle" with "widget," and have essentially the same book!
The author makes the assumption that every musician who can compose music already knows the construction of a jingle. He assumes that we all write jingles, we just need to know how to sell them. He in no way addresses the format, form, or content of advertising jingles.
These were the reasons I purchased this book, so I ended up getting nothing but a meandering discussion of how to promote myself.

Merry Christmas--Texas-Style!
A ROSEY LITTLE CHRISTMAS by Bonnie Tucker
All she wants for Christmas...is a set of binoculars!
When Rosey O'Leary runs her car up a post while admiring a jogger's fine behind, she doesn't intend to end up in court--until she learns that the man with the terrific tush, Daniel Sullivan, is planning to tear down her home just before the holidays. So now it's war! Or it would be, if Rosey and Dan could keep their hands off each other long enough to fight...
JINGLE BELL BRIDE? by Jennifer LaBrecque
She's tried being nice. This year, she going to be naughty...
Bride-to-be Delia "Dilly" Fitzgerald's only concern is fitting in her wedding dress--until she learns that her groom has been given one heck of a Christmas present to marry her! That's when she takes off and finds herself alone on a holiday honeymoon with gorgeous limo driver, Mick Macdougal, a man wo looks like he'd be very good at giving Dilly all the TLC she needs...
And my review:
Well, I guess I'm a victim of marketing. Harlequin Duets looked like a line of light, romantic comedies. Which they are, but they really read more like Harlequin Temptations or Blazes with a bit of humor thrown in to liven then up. What I mean by that is that the stories are very sex-driven. Of course, that appeals to a lot of people, but I like sex to be an added bonus to love, not the first and foremost reason a couple is together. I like to read about them falling in love, not falling into bed. But with almost pretty much every Duets I've tried so far, that has been the case, and it's just not a good fit for me.
One complaint I had with A ROSEY LITTLE CHRISTMAS was the way it started. The author spends all this time introducing characters who are not the primary characters. Why was I supposed to care about this Jorge fellow? He's not the hero. Or his wife, Prissy? She's not the heroine. Or LeRoy LeRue? Again, not the hero. Yet these are the first characters introduced. The hero and heroine finally get a mention--in passing--after we meet Jorge, Prissy, and LeRoy. This really annoyed me. I thought that one of the cardinal rules of romance (especially category romance) was that you meet either the hero or heroine on the very first page.
And then when the whole "heroine drives her car into a pole while admiring the hero's butt" scene is starting, the reader has to endure pages and page of chitchat between the heroine and her sisters. Enough already--I wanted the author to get on with the story. But once it did, it was just hormones between hero and heroine, not much else, and that's just not enough to satisfy me.
In JINGLE BELL BRIDE? it was another case of out-of-control lust drawing the hero and heroine together, but not really much tenderness or affection. Now that's just what some readers want. I'm just not one of them.
If you like lusty books that are funny, then the Duets line is probably a good one for you, and you might like this collection. If you find it more important that the characters have an emotional connection before a physical one, you might like to look elsewhere.

Jingle Bell Bride? is Outrageous fun!Review Date: 2001-11-13
Mick MacDougal takes over driving his brother's limousine as a favor when his sister-in-law goes into labor early. Things are slow at his ranch anyway, so he welcomes the diversion. The sacrifice of three hard years of work and his marriage have left the ranch in better shape, but they aren't in the black yet. All he'll need to do for his brother is pick the happy couple up at the church and drive them to their honeymoon destination. Sounds easy, until the big, blond, bodacious bride exits the church alone and offers to pay him extra if he'll take her to the planned honeymoon retreat and drive her all week. She doesn't know her father's offered to pay in bull semen for Mick to look after his little girl until she comes home.
Mick puts responsibility to his ranch and his help above his personal life. Securing bull semen will ensure stock that will keep his people employed and paid. But when Dilly discovers her sexy driver is no better than her ex-fiancé, she's going to be (angry). Mick quickly finds himself falling for this story woman full of beauty and fury. As for Dilly, she figures its pretty bad when one kiss with limo driver in a burger joint eclipses every bit of her previous sexual experience.
Author Jennifer LaBrecque creates a delightfully capricious romance in JINGLE BELL BRIDE? This unusual cast of characters, including a convention of nuns, a best friend who's enrolled in an internet assertiveness support group, and an ex-fiancé accompanied by a mariachi band add captivating spice to this outrageous story. Underlying the humor is an irrational, wanton attraction between hero and heroine that will make the reader's toes curl. JINGLE BELL BRIDE? comes highly recommended.

Based on Galatians 5:22-23 and the nine Fruits of the Spirit, love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control, and these books help kids learn to do what's right, even if you've been doing what's wrong. It could be called a spiritual U-turn, and Allison Gappa Bottke founder of popular God Allow U-Turns series hopes this new series will give kids a chance to choose the right way.
Although the books are geared towards 4-7 year olds, my three year old grandson, Caleb and I devoured our two books (although there are more now), in one sitting. He was delighted with pup siblings Jessie and Tyler Barkley's tale told with simple synched rhymes and fun illustrations. I enjoyed Caleb's laughter and the Christian message I shared while reading to him.
Jingles and Joy is a delightful book exemplifying the Spiritual fruit joy. Focusing on the `gimmie' attitude present in so many children allows readers to identify with the situation. When the pups learn true joy is what God provides in Christ, the readers understand this, too, and they see what true joy really means.
Picnics and Peace is a charming book focusing on the Spiritual fruit peace. It's a touchy book dealing with real life situations rejection and racism. Jessie Barkley doesn't like her brother Tyler's new friend. She doesn't really know him, but he's different. He's a different breed - a poodle. And, this new different looking friend takes Tyler away from Jessie more than once. Jessie doesn't like feeling rejected and tries to get Tyler away from the new pup, but Tyler's having too much fun. When Jessie realizes there are differences even in her own family and that God created us all and loves each one of us, she drops her guards and gains a new friend.
Author/poet Heather Gemmen does a great job of entertaining readers with her simple sing song poems, and former Disney illustrator Matt Whitlock draws us in with images that make us smile.
I'm eager to add the next books in the series to Caleb's family library; his little brothers will want to read them as they grow. It's good to find solid bible truths told simply and in such a way the children ASK to read or at least look at the pictures.
