Very useful text regarding developing literacy in the classroom for both seasoned and new teachers. Many examples provided. Clear prose; challenging ideas presented. A must have text.

If you are looking for a book on how to create fantastic websites, this is not the book for you. This text books deals mainly with the written content of a website. It is all from the angle of a journalist's point of view for writing serious content on the web. The author has understood that technology would almost make the book obsolete the day it was published, so she has links at the end of each chapter to her own website which keeps the text up-to-date. This is a great source for novice webjournalists. If you are already a professional webjournalist, I would think that you already familiar with most of the content but it is still a great reference.

A wonderful book. Boy, i was dragged through galleries and museums by my parents throughout the 60's and 70's, seeing things I thought interesting, some beautiful, some scary, some outright nonsensical. I never got to understand nothing, though I felt the impact of "the better stuff". Mr. Barrett does a wonderful job in being sincere and easy to understand as he, with impressively up-to-date examples, puts forth the meaning behind those formulae of formalism, modernism, post-modernism and the like. He carefully introduces techniques of criticism which are acknowledged as "best practices", but always underlines that other avenues will take us to excellence, too. I definitely appreciate what he covers under the "feminism" and "multiculturism" headlines, cos when we get to see it, we rarely have the nomenclatura to understand it properly. This is not just a book for someone who in earnest wants to make a living off "criticizing art", but for anyone young (in mind) enough to set out on the adventure to enjoy, understand and recommend contemporary art with some kind of vision for the betterment of mankind. The art, Mr. Barrett tells us, is all there - it's now up to us to make something with it.

I bought this book when I had to teach myself how to create basic reports via CR9. It got me through that painlessly, and saved my company the $1,000 they would have had to pay a live instructor for Report Design I.

But remember, it is a starter book for beginners. After about a year of successfully using the knowledge gained from this book, I took the Business Objects Report Design II and III instructor led classes. I learned I made the right decision regarding the Level I class, as this Dummies book covered it well.

Lots of information! Easy to understand even for a beginer like me. Great tips and lots of sites to go to for posting resumes.

Yes, that's right, 5 Stars for a book about proper punctuation. I fully expected to get through this book only for my 2008 Challenges. In my mind's eye I saw myself reading a page or two and then falling sound asleep from boredom. I could not have been more wrong.

Not only does Lynne Truss make punctuation interesting, she makes it funny. She knows just were little punctuation puns fit. Who knew there were 17 proper uses for the apostrophe?! There was, at onetime, a movement to have a special mark to indicate a rhetorical question. As is stated on the front flap, "Through sloppy usage and low standards on the Internet, in e-mail, and now "txt msgs", we have made proper punctuation an endangered species." (not to mention proper spelling)

I've given this book 5 Stars not only because I enjoyed it, but because I think all of us who have been out of the classroom for 10 years or more could use a refresher.

We didn't use this book that much, but what we did use of it, I liked.

This is the best affordable paperback collection of Kant's essays on politics and the philosophy of history. You get Perpetual Peace, Idea for a Universal History, Contest of the Faculties, The End of all Things, Theory and Practice, What is Enlightenment and several other essays. Hans Reiss' introduction is well written and illuminating as well. There is another, cheaper collection published by Hackett Publishing Co. (Perpetual Peace and Other Essays). However, it is smaller and less comprehensive than this edition.
