A satirical dating handbook taking the view that men are sex crazed pigs Review Date: 2008-06-15
It's about time!Review Date: 2008-06-12
Excellent! Every woman should read this!Review Date: 2008-06-12
Matthews is not condescending at all - but "all telling" with a humor that makes the "medicine go down" very easily for the female reader.
After reading it I was not "mad" at men anymore, but felt as if I understood them much better and even had an advantage over men - which feels great! Based on my own past relationship experience, some things he writes are incredibly shocking - but I would rather know the truth than go around confused and dressed like a crafty sweet Martha Stewart (unless that was what I wanted to be like). Now I know "what men think and want". He cuts to the chase making it easier for the female.
Matthews does not fault women in the book either, nor does he fault men. He just explains with great humor and candor "the secret facts, differences between the two sexes and why that is the way it is"...and writes it in a way I have never heard before. I now have a total new insight to men, my men friends, and my husband. Now I can finally help other females who are always forever plighted with the mystery and woes of men and relationships! I would say to them - "Just buy this book and READ it! Life will get BETTER for you." You may think you know some things, but Matthews let me know and understand things that I just didn't "get" before. Now I do! I feel very empowered after reading this book and cannot wait to "experiment" a bit with his sound advice! I also could not put this book down. I literally turned off the phone, sat and read it with no interruptions. It is not only a fantastic read, it was about the most informative factual book on men I have ever read. His honesty is informative, VERY fresh and different -plus a total page turner! Excellent book!!
A Must for Every WomanReview Date: 2008-05-14
Entertaining & True!!Review Date: 2008-04-16
This book is jam-packed full of insight!! While this author entertains throughout with funny and creative thoughts -- the information provided here is so clear, so useful... such an eye-opener! It's like the first look under the hood of a new car; if nothing in there looks familiar... we feel damn lucky the car comes with a book explaining the location of the basic fluids, right??!! Up until now, it's been women struggling & struggling to understand men without a manual that gives it to us straight. Now we have that manual!
In addition to it being entertaining, this book is in a riot of a fast-moving format; I'm thinking this should be 'Required Reading' for any young woman just entering the dating world; any woman re-entering the dating world after a long time away; or any close friend or co-worker who is driving you crazy talking endlessly about how much she loves her guy, but just can't understand him or the things he does. Enough already, give her a copy of this book -- she'll finally get it too!!

Great Compilation, But Missing Logos.Review Date: 2002-05-13
But, that aside, this book certainly has its laughs. I laughed a lot and this book (as long as you bring along EVERY other Treasury and the black and white books) is great for long car rides. People think Garfield is only for the little kids, but he's for the adults, too. The whole family can laugh at the fat cat's hilarious mischief and his practical jokes on Jon, his hapless owner. Some of the colored Sunday strips are from "Garfield Rounds Out," which is one of my favorite Garfield books. Having them in color here is a real treat. An especially funny strip in this one i where Garfield pretends to be a bird-bath, and gets more than he bargained for.
The 5th Garfield Treasury is laugh out loud funny! But then again, what Garfield book isn't?

The best breast cancer book I have readReview Date: 2008-06-25
This book has made me rethink my advice to first time offenders. It is certainly the most honest book I have read about this awful disease. I highly recommend it to any breast cancer patient or family member of patient.

an intelligent and deeply personal account ... Review Date: 2008-06-03
Shelley also takes on the cause awareness industry that reaps the benefits of breast cancer awareness, (Pink Ribbon Barbie anyone?) and challenges the medical industry and our government to work harder to isolate the causes of breast cancer and to better treat the disease once it's found.
This book is recommended reading for friends and family of women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. It will give you great insight in to the best ways to be most helpful while the one you love is going through this cancer.
Most of all, for any woman who has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and is overwhelmed by the choices that need to be made, bewildered too, and maybe just a little out of sync with the breast-cancer-will-change-you-make-you-a-better-person crowd, when you are quite sure you were a pretty fine person all along, this book is most certainly for you.

Mr. Lileks is among the very bestReview Date: 2002-08-07
If you've ever looked at a blog, particularly a war blog, you'll have seen--and hopefully followed-- innumerable links to Mr. Lileks's Daily Bleat.Ê But he's no recent phenomenon, as this collection of columns from 1994 shows.Ê Mr. Lileks has been toiling away in the vineyards for many years now, or in his case the pages of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.Ê The older satire here is just as funny and just as politically incorrect as his writing over the past few months has been, including rants about NPR, women's hair dye, the metric system, and the Taster's Choice couple.
Columnists, especially those who write humor columns, have a tough task, called on not only to be consistent but consistently funny.Ê Mr. Lileks is among the very best.

Short and snappy, Fresh Lies' essays and stories embody a respectable variety, from the silly to the artfully sincere. Keep it in your bag, for waiting in line or riding the bus, or the patio. Hell, keep it wherever you want- just keep it!
