Bugs, usually when you think about them you think of teeny tiny crawly things that you can hardly see, ant and fleas, flies and garden spiders. Okay, so you can see them, but they are very, very small. But did you know that not all bugs are so tiny, some grow to a pretty good size, bigger than a cookie even. And those big bugs are depicted in this book in all their pictorial glory, big and scary looking. Well scary looking to my girls, but scary as they are, my girls keep coming back for more. They just loved this book when they were toddlers, they still do. If you've got kids, you can't go wrong with THE BIG BUG BOOK.

The picturebook story of a tiny blue bug
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2005-04-11
Wonderfully written and superbly illustrated by author/artist Yetti Frenkel, The Big, Blue Lump is the picturebook story of a tiny blue bug with a peaceful heart. Though he might appear tasty to animals such as a hungry yellow chick, he has a unique defense... it isn't a good idea to swallow the blue bug or one just might get swallowed up in turn. The simple artwork adds a touch of charming whimsy, reinforced when expected behaviors such as a chick swallowing a bug give way to unusual situations such as a pig swallowing a dog! An easy-to-read story especially suitable for young people making the transition from the simplest picture books to slightly more wordy ones.

Binkie is a hit!

I bought this book for my precocious 7-year-old niece. Her mom says: Binkie the Butterfly is innocent and simple, the illustrations magical and fresh. C. asks me to read it to her although she is already reading at 4th grade level. She has a special place in her room that she keeps the book and when she wants to feel close to me, she will ask me to read it to her. It is a sweet memory for us that I will always cherish." I'm so happy to have found this wonderful gift for my niece - Binkie is a hit!

One of the Greater Adventures!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2005-09-24
Basically, if you have read the entire Chronicles AND the the previous Adventures, then you basically know that BIONICLE has taken a 2-year flashback. At the conclusion of the 2003 Story, the Toa learn of a strange new land, one they are destined to journey to. Funny thing is, this Island is perhaps even MORE ancient than the island they currently live on, Mata Nui. Before they journey, the village elders, the Turaga, most notably Turaga Vakama, decide to tell the Toa & Matoran (the Villagers) all they know of this ancient land. THAT's the flashback, which has taken 2 years to complete, story & set wise.

By BA#8, the evil Horde of Visorak, four-legged venomous spider creatures led by Sidorak and his Viceroy - Roodaka, have taken over the land of Metru Nui. This horde has traveled island to island destroying ALL life, which is bad for us readers because we know little of these islands to begin with!

Anyways, by this Adventure, the Toa Metru who have been poisoned by the venomous Visorak now must fight the uncontrollable beast from within, AS WELL AS save the Matoran they have come to rescue. Also they have the side job of trying to find a cure for their Visorak bites, or else they will remain half-beasts forever.

For devoted fans this book provides excellent answers to burning questions, and even brings up some new ones as well. From the Tahtorak, to the Krahka, the Hagah, and even the Rahaga . . . devoted fans whould not get bored!

For new fans, I highly suggest you read the Chronicles FIRST, followed by the Adventures. Mind you, there are still 2 Adventures after this one, and then there's the all-new Legends Series coming in 2006, where readers will finally return to the present, which we have left off from since 2003.

Oh, and boy does this book get me excited about the film!

Want to talk your kids into reading books instead of playing video games?..Tell them that SPIDERS EAT BIRDS!...Yikes! I would'nt want to run into one of these in a dark alley! This book is great. Its very educational for your young ones and it's pictures will capture the attention of even the crustiest arachnaphobics. The book is well laden with great photos and informative explanations put in a way that is easy to digest for virtually all ages. Oh yeah, it also makes a very eye-catching addition to those books and mags on your coffee table so go check it out.

Adorable story with a moral

Review Date: 2005-04-07
Bitsy Spider moves into a new house and wants to have a housewarming party. Not sure what makes a fun party, Bitsy decides to ask her friends. Of course, each one has a different idea, which only leaves Bitsy more confused. Since she isn't good at any of the things her friends suggested would make a fun party, Bitsy decides to give up and cancel the party. Bitsy's friends come to the rescue and a wonderful time is had by all.

This is a wonderfully delightful, beautifully illustrated story. My 11 yr. old little girl loved it, so it's not just for smaller kids. And it has a moral, too! Each person has special gifts and when we all use our gifts to help each other, life can be fun for all of us. A story all little kids should have on their bookshelf.

This book not only gives children a valuable lesson in exploration but in the end, they are treated to a special time that Bonnie has with her mother. Like all mother's, Bonnie's wanted her to be adventurous and explore her world. But, as in real life, there are always dangers to be aware of.
This book is beautifully illustrated by Carey A. Norby and we hope it is the first of many for her.

This book is sure to delight both parents and children alike. Richard Michelson's whimsical poems coupled with fantastic illustrations by Leonard Baskin combine to make this book entertaining, educational and fun. Each fly receives dual treatment by the author and illustrator. First, a painting of the fly viewed through a child's literal eye matched with a humorous poem, followed by a factual monograph and technical sketch of the fly. Michelson and Baskin have concocted a brilliant collection of flies, real or otherwise.

Excellent Overview for the layman
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 1998-03-31
This book was a real treat to read. It was informative without being pedantic, written in language understandable for the interested layman. There are lots of color photographs and drawings that nicely supplement the text. Spider and scorpion courtship, mating, digestion, respiration, hunting, and web spinning are all discussed. A fine book for anyone who is fascinated by these creatures.
