I liked this book very much. Ibought this book after attending a special ASL mass at church. The celebrant was none other than Fr. Tom Mc Caughlin who is one of the sign models for this book. He is a terrific person and it was a privilege to meet him.

All of this lady's material is well thought out and easy to learn. This is a good book for church interpreters. Not only do you learn the signs for your religion, it shows you others as well. It also shows universal church religion signs. This is a must for anyone learning to interpret in a church setting!

I found this book to be helpful in my understanding of the female body.Given that I work with many female executives,I found this information to be very useful in designing my clients' workouts-especially the female body composition.
I liked the fact that the book showed me ways of getting the most out of the block of time I have for my clients. Most of them come in over lunch hour to train, the gyms are packed and there is no time to think and search. This book give me insights on how to save and maximize on the time that I have, and my clients really appreciate it.

Any beginner will be able to pick this book up and make immediate improvements in their fitness and health.

All areas are adressed and I'm happy to see a decent flexibility program covered as well.

As a professional trainer - it is always nice to see a good resource for the new exerciser.

Ladies, if you are just starting out, give this one a look.

If you want a book to give you lessons on what exercises are the best for you and a few meals to use this book may be for you. I found that you can get the same exercises listed in most videos and dvd's that denise austin has previously released. Also, the meals she gives you might work if you were just going to make 2-servings, they don't always work as well when increased for a family.

I was skeptical, but it really works!

I'm the first to admit that dieting makes me grouchy. Additionally, I am not a morning person, so the idea of getting up early and power-walking for 30 minutes four times a week seemed like Chinese water torture. But I had a formal dress to get into, and I needed drastic measures. So I read the book, and gradually incorporated the elements of the plan into my daily routine. I started with the meal plans. It was an eye-opener to see what a true portion should be, and I could see in my food journal all the things I was putting in my mouth every day. Next week, I started the walking. After a week I really started to enjoy it! I have two kids under 6, and I found I relished the quiet time to myself out on the roads in the morning. After that, I started the weight workouts. I saw results in the first month of following all of the advice. The motivational stuff seemed too perky in the beginning, but around week 6, when I started to get major chocolate cravings, I just kept thinking about what she said about halfway through the book. "Nothing tastes as good as being fit feels." Thirteen weeks later, I am 19 pounds thinner, and the formal I was trying to get into was a little loose! Everyone compliments me on how great I look. If you are really serious about getting into shape and fitting into your clothes, this is the book (and plan) for you.

If you know ANYTHING about eating properly already, don't purchase this book. This book is meant for beginners only. Denise must have been paid by the companies that produce the foods she suggests, because if you don't have access to the specific foods and types she recommends, there are no alternatives. The workout is also completely basic and rudimentary and focussed towards those that have NEVER worked out before, or possibly the elderly. I had high hopes for this book but was completely let down and actually returned it.

Although I truly believe in astrology and don't mean to belittle it, I find this a fun book to whip out at parties where there are unbelievers. It blows there minds to see how accurate the description is concerning themselves and their birthdates... I've found it to be around 95% accurate for the nearly 50 people whom I've read it to.

This book is a good place to start. I have had this book for a while but have not commented on how awesome it is! It gets deep into astrology, beyond the surface level. This is not about the general compatibility, this is about your birthday, the stars and the numbers! I found lots of people to love but only 8 soulmate potentials...now I know why soulmates are truly not the easiest to find. I feel optimistic though because now at least I have somewhere to start: people who have the birthdays with soulmate potential. Very accurate book! Five worthwhile stars!

I bought this book several years ago and still consult it from time to time. It has personality profiles for every birthday of the year and is an easy read with a lot of information. That being said, I don't find it nearly as accurate or fascinating as the "Secret Language of..." series. The "Secret Language of Birthdays" is set up on the same premise: astrological/personality profiles for every day of the year, but it is so much more accurate and with less information. This book is a bit wordy, but still a good read and worth adding to a collection. Please don't leave out the Secret Language series, though... if you're a true astrology fan you would be missing out if you don't have this trilogy of books.

It's the closest thing you can come to for an ASL-English Dictionary. It has been very helpful for us when you watch videos and don't recognize a sign. You can look up the shape and figure it out! It's wonderful! Would recommend it!

Well, I have a few ASL dictionaries, take ASL courses and also have DVD/CD's to practice with at home with. I thought this book would be a plus, but I find it too basic. I think because I'm past the beginning level. Well, this is how it is for me, but I know that someone who is begining will get something out of it. Although, if you are going to learn ASL to be fluent, this book will only be a good reference for a short period of time.

WISH I FOUND IT SOONER! Parent to a mute child who signs as his primary communication
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-04-07
My little boy is four. He hears but is mute. We have been signing with him for about two years and it is his primary means of communication. Now that he comes home from school though he comes home from school, he learns new signs and comes home signing. Since we are still learning the language with him...it was frustrating. Until we got this book. My son has some orthopedic difficulty with his hands so the hand shape look up has helped. His signing is not perfect. However, no child is when they are learning sign just as when they are learning to speak. For example we may try looking up say the F shape first then the D. When we get the positive signal from my son he is so excited we understand him!

The only problem I really see from this book is that its not big enough. For now at my sons age and language level I think it is perfect. However when things become more complicated in his language I can see a need for something more intense. It is my hope that by that stage my son will have mastered other methods of communication such as typing a word into his dynavox to tell me what the sign means. I hope that this is the case for other parents and interpreters also.

I now buy this book as a gift for parents who were not previously signers who find their children either can't speak or are deaf. I think it is that neccesary.

I only wish I had found it sooner!

This is a fantastic book. There are many places to look to find a sign for a specific word, but not to find what word goes with a specific sign. This book does just that. You can look up the sign by how many hands are used and what hand shape is used. Fantastic!! A must-have for anyone wanting to learn sign language.

The CD alone is worth 5 stars

I know it says this has a DVD, however it only plays on a computer. So I'll call it a CD. The CD alone is why I gave it a 5 star rating. I use this almost everyday as I study for my ASL class. You can increase the screen size which is good for me since sometimes it's hard for me to see the fingers. You can also go in slow motion. I also find that this CD has the newer signs unlike many of the CDs or websites available which have old signs. The book is something I refer to once in a while, but mainly I use the CD. It's really hard to learn a sign from a book. Seeing the sign in motion is what makes it understandable.

Not only is the book cleverly written, the illustrations are exceptional! I stayed up for hours pouring over the pages. None of his books has yet to bore me. No matter how many times they're read, there is always something new to be discovered. GB is my FAVORITE children's picture book author! Extraordinary! This mystery aspect of this book will interest older children with more advanced thinking skills. But, as a book by itself it still is a fun adventure for kids of any age.

The Book I read was called The Sign of the Seahorse. This book was one of the most detailed picture books I have ever read. It is about fish that own a bar called the Seahorse and how some of them have to save the town from a villain and his thugs. In the book the bar owner's daughter falls in love with one of the heroes, and his son tries to fight the thugs. Will they be able to stop the villain before it's to late? You will have to read it to find out. I would recommend this book to a young child who enjoys adventure, fantasy, or likes reading about fish. This fishy tail was written by Graeme Base. -Jake

This lady knows me.
"Scorpio Jupiters need to explore the deep end of every area of your life" (-I needed the permission to do that because, the deep end can be a scary place to be) oh, and this too: "This is why it's so important, Scorpio Jupiter, for you to get a lot of sleep" -Okay, So That's why I love naps so much! Oh, and some place I'm sure I read something with the word Genius in it while describing me:)

Okay, seriously now, this is extremely user friendly, you find your birth date and year on the self explanatory chart, and see what sign your jupiter is in. Simple to do, and then you go thru and find that sign and start reading! I was a little skeptical at first, as I was flipping through to locate mine. Anxious to see what it said and compare to the me that I thought I knew so well....I was amazed when I started reading and I found some of the major themes of my life. I think I was so surprised because I wasn't counting on it being so in-depth. I know how our sun sign, rising sign, moon sign make up who we are, but I had never given any thought to my jupiter sign and how it affected me. It's just another aspect of who we are and why we are the way we are.

The thing I like a lot about this book is that I feel like there is a good amount of information included on each sign. There is helpful advice on strengths and excesses, understanding what influences us. There are sections that outline things like lucky foods, your best environment, your best times, etc., etc. About the only thing I found that didn't fit me was the colors listed for my scorpio jupiter. Which I think is pretty insignificant among all the other accurate information. Also, in thinking about that, I have to say that we are always evolving and growing and changing, so just because something doesn't fit you right now, doesn't mean that it won't at some other point in your life.?

The nice thing about books like this, is you get your own profile, and learn more about yourself, -and you can look up other people's as a way of understanding their makeup. Which could be really beneficial in relationships of all types.

Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system but you can put all of the planets inside the Sun and have a great deal of space left over. Jupiter does not bring you luck if it is conjnct, square, or in opposition to Mars, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto. When Jupiter even squares the Sun it will bring the native lots of trouble, mainly due to overdoing! For example too much house or car, a hobby that is out of hand, or too much work of an workaholic. Jupiter brings you luck ONLY when WELL ASPECTED IN THE NATAL CHART.
If you want to waste your time reading the Sun signs column in the newspaper or magazine try reading your Ascendant instead of your Sun Sign. The script is determined by the position of the Moon on that day and it's aspects. If you are a Scorpio, today with the Moon in Scorpio, it will reference something about your 1st house matters while it will refer to twelfth house matters for Libra. Which is nonsense if Gemini is you ascendant. The Ascendant can only be known when you know your TIME OF BIRTH. This is a "cookbook" based on an a invalid premise. When you sprinkle it with examples of current personalities in the entertainment filed it shortens the life of any usefulness of the book. Those examples who are enjoying their 15 minutes of fame will be unknown to readers in just 5 years. The authors statements concerning history are laughable at times. Sir Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin. Dr. Jonas Salk developed the polio vacine.

I know the author as a psychic medium so I thought this book would have more of her in the wiccan vein. It's not that, but I learned a lot I didn't know before and her amazing life-force message still comes through.

Here she concentrates on positive healing through astrology and gives specifics and examples to assist. The self-empowerment is frankly amazing though she's not even reading you..!

The story, so like my life in too many ways to count, has shown me how to get through my problems. This is not just a book, it is a spiritual cleanser and a modern-day bible. I keep this book next to my bed ever night, and before i got to bed and when i wake up, I read a short passage as to learn how I can make my life better for myself and those around me. When I think of my life before this inspiring classic, I almost break down and cry. Thank you. Thank you, Ruddegar Leslie Stine VII. Nora Goode is trying to forget the giant fire that killed every single member of the Fear family. Unfortunately, her story about what really happened the night of the fire has landed her in an insane asylum, where she must raise her and Daniel Fear's son, Nicholas. Fortunately, she is able to escape with Nicholas to a new village where no one knows about the terror they have faced.

Eighteen years later, Nicholas is much older, and right as Nora dies, she tells him about a legacy in his family. Now, Nicholas is determined to find out the truth of his family's legacy. But one thing he doesn't know is that his legacy holds more terror than he could have ever imagined. Will he be able to survive the ancient curse that has terrorized his family for so long?

A NEW FEAR is a much-needed sequel to the Fear Street Saga trilogy. I think this book is pretty good. It's interesting knowing Nora's future. What I didn't like was that it took quite a while for the novel to get scary. But when it finally does get scary, you'll be gripping on the edge of your seat to find out what happens. I thought I had it all planned out, but I was wrong. This is a must-read for all Fear Street fans.

I purchased this book after my son's speech teacher sent home the school's copy for our family to use with our son, who is autistic.

The illustrations in this book are very clear in showing the basic sign vocabulary, using little arrows that clearly demonstrate direction and motion of many sign vocabulary words.

I would recommend this book for families who are just learning to communicate with their autistic child. The book is very simple and easy to understand and use.

I really loved the previous two books that Vicki wrote, but I have to be truthful the first half of this book was really slow. Joanna just seems to go on and on about how flawed she is and how everything that she does is wrong. Her devotion to Ben is admirable, but for me it really got old hearing about how much she loved him and would never leave him. I kept putting the book down wondering when some action would occur, and forcing myself to pick it up again because I knew eventually Vicki would write some action that I would like. Well she did, I liked the end of the book (even though I didn't like the way Joanna treated Hunter). I really wanted this book to be as good as the last two, but I have to say it was a chore to read the first 200 pages. Will I read the next book in Vicki's series? Yes, I probably will. I do care about Joanna and want to read more of her adventures; I just hope the next book gets to the action/adventures faster than this one did.

Joanna/Oliva Archer is part light and part shadow. In this book she is being stalked by a doppelganger from a preternatural realm. She is still fighting off her Father, the Tupla and trying to protect her old boyfriend Ben from the Shadow Agent, Regan. We meet up again with all of the agents of the light and some of the shadow agents. These books are fast paced and great fun. Once I pick one up, I have a hard time putting it down. I guess I will have to wait at least a year for the next one in the series. What a great series, so different. I love the Zodiac Series.

All three of the Zodiac books are great, but I really couldn't put Book 3 down at all, especially toward the end. Very creative and fun. The books pull you in and don't let you go. I hope the author will continue the series.

I am a big Pettersson fan with this new series. Book 3 started out much slower than the first two, but stick with it, it ends better than it started.
In general, this is a great series for Sci Fi/Fantasy fans!

Joanna Archer has had a difficult life, for sure. She also makes a point to mention it every chance she gets. I love this series, but it's becoming dangerously close to one where you want to take the heroine, or superheroine in this case, and shake her. Very little is accomplished here and what little is accomplished happens in the last few chapters. She focuses entirely too much on revenge she thinks she deserves, totally ignoring things like responsibility to her troop and a little girl she has essentially broken.
The book is not a complete loss. Facts are unearthed about her childhood home, alternate planes, the power of thought, and why some people are the way they are. She finally makes a decision about her love life, takes the initiative in Olivia's life, and discovers some intrigue within her stepfather's life. The book is also a great resource for some of the trivialities: what exactly is a tulpa, how does a conduit come into existence, how much license does the author grant for the supernatural, what car does Hunter drive?
Ultimately, it's a worthwhile read, especially if you're already into the series. It helps tie some things together, creates some interesting venues for the future, and furthers a few interpersonal bonds within the troop. I just really hope this isn't a sign of things to come as the first two books were a much easier, enjoyable read.

This book makes Spirit so much a part of life, not something way off in the sky. It helps us to feel we can all have access to guidance, profound guidance on a daily basis.

Colette's writing is empowering and inspiring. I love this book!

I admire Colette's work so much that I put aside
three early mornings in a row, to read and work
through my newly purchased "Messages from Spirit";
although, it was very tempting to devour it from cover
to cover in just one sitting.
Instead, on each of the three mornings I went onto my
balcony with "Messages from Spirit" in one hand and a small cup of
thick Mayan hot chocolate in the other. I had
noticed when first leafing through the book, that Colette
explains the how-tos of tasecomancy and was excited
to test my abilities with this simple form of divination. Much
to my delight, once I knew how to read them, the
messages revealed at the bottom of my cups all came in
loud and clear!
The next several days were full of synchronicity that
I can only describe as magical. I attribute the magic
directly to reading "Messages from Spirit" as I began
to actively open up to the signs that surrounded me.
Thanks to this fabulous book I have learned to ask for
guidance in a more effective way and am much more
able to interpret the signs I receive.
Once again Colette generously shares her personal
knowledge and experiences with wit, wisdom and a
wealth of anecdotes, practical resources and
exercises.
I think this book is an authentic and uncomplicated
"must read" for anyone who is at all curious about
divination, omens, oracles and signs.
I can't wait to share it with my friends and family.

Grounded, Practical and Ohhh so Soulful and Fun!

Colette's new book is just one more of what I hope will be her many gifts to us her readers. Like Colette, the humor, authenticity, and grounded realism combine with her intuitive/psychic/medium gifts and experience to create what I consider a great handbook on listening to Spirit in a variety of ways. One of Colette's core philosophies in her first book was that we all can tap into and listen to Spirit. It is truly about remembering how to do so. Messages from Spirit is one of those books you'll read through once, and you'll come back to it again and again for the reference material that she includes on symbols and signs. And it's filled with Colette's fun and personal style that has made her work accessible to so many of us that believe that life can be practical, soulful, and fun!! Thanks, Colette!

From the moment I opened this book I felt like I was in the hands of a good and trusted old friend. I found this work to be informative, wise and insightful without taking itself too seriously as so many authors in this genre tend to do. I found Ms. Baron-Reid's willingness to open up so readily about her own journey refreshing and very engaging. I completely enjoyed the conversational style of the book- I could not put it down, and promptly bought copies for my friends. HIGHLY recommend and I will be attending one of Colette's workshops when she is next in my area.

Good idea, but falls a little short

After waiting a whole month, Amazon finally delivered this book to me. It had been so long that I had forgotten I even ordered it. Needless to say, it was a pleasant surprise when it finally arrived.

I was intrigued by the title and subject matter and decided to give it a go. I'm currently on a spiritual kick and enjoy these sorts of books, especially the kind that have to do with signs and spiritual guides in general. I love hearing about other people's connection with spirit.

The book gives an interesting exploration into spiritual messages and how they're received, but never really gets in too deep. Colette seems to only barely skim the outer edges of her subject, leaving the reader thirsty for more insight as the book goes on. The book also gives the impression that the author was so excited about her subject matter that she jumped from place to place without really landing anywhere. It was kind of confusing.

Her writing style was also very hard to follow at times, like she was going for a friendly conversational tone that only fell flat because she was trying too hard. I also got the sense that the author was going for confidence in her abilities but chose her words poorly. This made her come across like she thought she was the only 100% accurate psychic in the world. It was a little disconcerting, as I'm sure that's not what she meant.

There was also a whole boring chapter where she gets into religion that I felt I had to slog through. It made no sense at all and it felt like she was only relaying something she overheard from someone else, trying to make it like it was her own discovery. It was terrible and I learned nothing from that chapter. I just wanted her blither to be over with and for her to move on. She eventually did, but the following chapters weren't exactly revelations either.

While this book contains some interesting stories from Colette and her friends, it's not really all that meaty or informative. I finished the book feeling a little confused. Was that all? Isn't there more? Wasn't I supposed to learn something? These are the questions I asked myself when I finally put the book down. It left me feeling pretty unsatisfied compared to how much I was hoping to get from this book.

All in all, I would recommend it, since it does have some pretty interesting stories, but if you're looking to be fulfilled or inspired somehow, this book isn't it.
