Test Signs and Wonders BiblicallyReview Date: 2008-01-25
I found particularly valuable the chapters on
- "Psychological or Supernatural", which deals with placebo effects, biofeedback, hypnosis, stress-related illnesses, and other things that the mind can influence vs. organic diseases;
- "Is there a Yardstick for Miracles" containing an excellent explanation on "testing everything, holding onto what is good" (1 Thessalonians 5:21), particularly as it applies to Biblical miracles. Upon closer examination, I was very surprised to find out that Biblical miracles are very different than what passes today for "miracles", such as they are always immediate (or very close to it), there are no relapses, they are always successful, God is always that one being glorified by confirming his nature or his Word, a miracles are always associated with truth, etc.
This book teaches very well how experience needs to be judged by the Bible, not the Bible by your experience. While miracles surely occur today, we have to be very careful not to fall for counterfeit miracles, without testing them carefully and Biblically. This book will help you learn and understand how to test miracles, Biblically.
Finally, it also looks at miracles and healings in other faiths (such as Hindu) and by other non-Christians, who can obtain the same results as the results of the reported "miracles" often shown in Charismatic/ Pentecostal circles. Did God of the Bible become universalistic? Of course not!
Other excellent books on this subject matter are: Samuel E. Waldron's To Be Continued?: Are the Miraculous Gifts for Today?, Dr. Ron Rhodes' Miracles Around Us: How to Recognize God at Work Today, and Kevin Reeves' The Other Side of the River. A Good SignReview Date: 2005-11-17
Not only does this poet show a real mastery of poetic technique (amazingly varied); his poems are actually about something other than himself-- profound meditations on all the big questions of love, death, violence, God... in language that is stunningly gorgeous (See the poem 'Lorca Leaving' if you want to know the meaning of gorgeous).
In the heart of the book there is a group of sonnets called 'Chemical Wedding' which I suspect could become a classic sequence: it's almost as if Jung meets Yeats and produces these weird, unsettling moments of unsparing psychological clarity.
I'm not sure I know of any contemporary poet who sounds quite like Killeen (maybe the early Paul Muldoon?). His new book gives me great hope for the future of kind of poetry from which you come away with a new understanding of yourself and the world...and many new questions.

Nice selection of animalsReview Date: 2006-05-17
cat, kitten, dog, puppy, mouse, bunny, bird, turtle, fish, frog, duck, cow, horse, pony, lamb, pig, squirrel, bear, elephant, monkey, lion, tiger, camel, alligator, spider, snake
Since we have chickens, I wish they'd done that sign. Also, they incorrectly used the word "pony." What they picture is a foal. A pony is a different beast.
Overall, a good book that I'm looking forward to sharing with my baby when he's old enough.

The Very Best In VISUAL SOUP FOR THE SOUL!Review Date: 2003-03-31
It includes inspirational and pride-filling pictures from "CHICANO PARK" in San Diego, East Los Angeles Ramona Gardens MURALS, murals from BERKELEY, murals from freeway underpasses, and San Francisco. These of course are only a couple of localities, there are more. It is an empowering book that really lets you see what struggles the Latino people have had to overcome. It depicts scenes from earlier pre-colonial struggles to recent political views. It is a book that you will pick up and want to add to your collection. This is a 2nd copy that I own and thought that I would share the knowledge with others. It really makes you want to go out and see for yourself what beautiful pieces of art lay within the urban chaos that we live in.

Pastor Abent also presents excellent information regarding the signs in the heavens that provide clues for prophetic events. This book is full of meat for the student of Bible prophecy and I recommend it highly.

The book is structured by taking an overview of different periods of time: Pre-Mosaic, Joshua through the Kings, Jesus himself, the early church etc. He asks the question: How did new believers come to faith? And he lets the Bible speak for itself.
For me this had the gripping ability to make a clear case that God has a strong purpose behind using signs and wonders. While some Bible giants--Ruth for instance, came to faith without any known evidence of signs and wonders, the vast majority were brought to faith in God with some sort of demonstration of the supernatural power of God.
The style is clear and readable. I couldn't put the book down and read it in one day. It will pull together scattered points that you've heard all your life.
