Ana Clavel's Desire And Its Shadow is a mind engaging novel depicting the life of Soledad and her awakening. As strange as it may appear, Soledad's wishes always seem to come true, and with the wish of disappearing, she finds herself in the center of Mexico City without a soul around her. Desire And Its Shadow encompasses a world of Aztec history, unexpected despondency, the depths of the city's most impoverished inhabitants, and an urban underworld in which the most insightful are the blind. A deftly authored blend of sexual discovery, vividly depicted story line, and an understanding of a Mexico City underworld battlefront, Desire And Its Shadow is very highly recommended for all general fiction readers.

This exceptionally well written fiction surpasses the usual Civil War novel for passion and subterfuge. The virile hero and the vivacious heroine are my kind of characters. Plenty of subterfuge, intrigue, and passion to the very end. I highly recommend it.

Chieko Okazaki has a way of expressing her thoughts in a down-to-earth manner. She brings spiritual insights to many of life's every day situations. She's not afraid to discuss "difficult" social topics and help readers understand how to cope with their own feelings and still keep a spiritual perspective. She's one of the most open and honest authors I have read. An excellent book for yourself and to give as a gift!

Neve hires Darcy after she excapes to find she really is a sweet loving woman, but she with give as good as she gets, Darcy can't risk her friends busniess by telling Neve what he can do with his job. But Ms Emmy is the ace in the hole, Neve uses her to get Darcy. It works and Neve tells Darcy everything. He also tells Darcy he loves her, and he wants Ms Emmy to make her home with them. This is one of my favorites, I also disagree with the choices for other writers, Susan Fox, Helen Brooks, the late great Betty Neels, and Rebecca Winters.

I am an avid mystery reader and this new author has hit a nail on the head. The main character Harry O'Day is a good example of being in the wrong or maybe right place at the right time. The story has many twist and turns. It keeps you on the edge of your seat through out the entire book and makes you ask for more. What more can you ask for in a book, that you don't want it to end. Thank you Robert for your great book. Marylou

This book is simple, practical, and easy to read--but at the same time life-changing. It focuses on how to ask the right questions in prayer and how to listen for answers. I've gone back to it more than once for inspiration and guidance. It's a wonderful guide to making one's prayers more effective.

This was the perfect book for me to dive back into the world of fiction and imagination. I enjoyed reading it - especially the last 30 pages.Martin's use of "revolving perspective" and his chapter / section headings was refreshing. The book uses each characters "account" of the central mystery of this tale as a way to introduce the characters and setting. Mostly linear and with short divisions, it was an easy read and perfect for my busy lifestyle. There were numerous times I just wanted to highlight the short dueling banter and quick-hitting one-liners that left me laughing, but I just knew it wouldn't have meaning outside a circle of those who have read this book. The ending was fantastic - enthralling as every ending should be, and tying up more loose ends than I remembered LOL. One of the few medium sized books I actually wanted to read again as soon as I finished it.-Mike Steele

This is the first novel by Lord Dunsany (aka Edward JMD Plunkett), a turn of the 19th/20th century author who was a pioneer in what was to become the genre of "Fantasy". His writing is some of the richest, most beautiful English I've ever read and his novels are a treasure for that reason alone. He also has an insight and storytelling skill that rates his writing as "literature" - much more so than all but the best fantasy authors (such as Ursula LeGuin).
That being said, this novel is notable for being a little more "fun" than his high fantasy that follows - it has a lot of humor and derring-do in it and is somewhat reminiscent of Dumas's "Three Musketeers" in that element. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard while reading such excellent prose! The plot revolves around the adventures of a young Spanish gentleman, who not being the eldest son will not inherit his father's property must seek his own fortune.
I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys Dumas, Stevenson, "The Princess Bride", or Zorro!

For those of you who have an interest in what has happened to the
America we have loved, this is one of those 'must read' books! You will
find yourself so totally disgusted at all the lies we have been told
throughout our history as a nation, while being totally engrossed in finding out more.
Mr.Watterson does an excellent job of tying together events such as wars that we have been involved in with the propaganda behind those wars that was needed & used upon the 'proles' to get the American public to accept said wars & even rally behind the idea. The meaning of his subtitle, 'How Democracy in America became the Prince' (while we slept) becomes clear upon reading the book.
He illustrates magnificently how the tenets of Tocqueville &
Machiavelli have been latched onto by the elitists who really run our
country & their ideas have been put into practice & remain in practice
today. Also how the foreboding warning in Orwell's 1984 is coming to
pass as we 'sleep'. In fact, the book is written about events as seen
through the eyes of George Orwell. It is written in such a way that one
need not be an expert in politics to grasp what is being said. As stated
in it's introduction, this book is written for the benefit of
everyone's understanding. Mr.Watterson spells it out very clearly. This book opened my eyes, and I highly recommend that anyone who cares about
reclaiming what America has stood for & wants to return it to it's
constitutional base, will read it.

I waited with baited breath for this sequel to become available. The characters in the first book were so real and engaging that I could hardly wait to see what happened to them. The second book didn't let me down and I sincerely hope there is another to come. The original way this author tells a story is in itself entertaining. The history is fabulous and eye opening. The use of language is unique and made me laugh outloud many times. This is an author that has a real way with words and is not afraid to make her characters real or imperfect.
