I know it's a tacky thing to do but I bought this as a gift for a slasher-flick loving friend and read it before I gave it to him. Yeah, a confession after all these years that the gift wasn't strictly 'un-used'. Anyway, I won't go into the plot of Scream, anyone reading this probably already knows it better than I do, having only seen it twice, but I will note that devoid of its visuals (beyond a few movie freeze-frames included in the book) Williamson's writing in this script comes off as better than I remember it being in Scream. Its campiness is elevated to funnier than on screen, its pop culture/film references seem more apt, and the twist the run-time builds up to is reinforced as decently unexpected. (The screenplay also spares the reader a lot of the visual violence that distracts in the case of reading for the sake of broadening insight into the spoken words of a film.) I've read scripts to a few other movies, the best being The Usual Suspects, and every time I've thought how it's a shame more people don't read the scripts to their favorite films, and how un-selfserving that more directors don't publish their screenplays.

Scream isn't a favorite of mine, and it's not high art but if you like the movie, pick this up sometime. The guy I bought it for still has it and seemed to like it.

Looking forward to CURSED

Reading SCREAM seven years after the initial impact of the film--and in movie terms seven years is definitely a whole generation later--I wonder if it would be a success if Williamson wrote the same material today. Some of it is very clever, and the references to pop culture still work, but more might have been made of the human and emotional back stories of the main characters. Neve Campbell's character, for example, doesn't have the emotional resonance years later that (to take up a similar example in a different film genre) Molly Ringwald displayed in her movies for John Hughes.

I look forward to CURSED, the new collaboration between Kevin Williamson and Wes Crave, though the rumors of the re-shoots and re-takes, actors being fired, etc., and dissatisfied test audiences, make one wonder if it won't be more like KILLING MRS TINGLE than SCREAM. Still, there's always hope.

I liked the book, "The Scream of the Butterfly". Interesting insights into the political scenes of those different countries. At first, I didn't like the title, but then after I read it, the title had meaning to me. I think The writer is the butterfly. Butterflies start as larvae, and metamorphosize into a beautiful creature. This metamorphosis is something that they don't understand, nor particularly welcome / enjoy. But when it's over, they are infinitely better and more beautiful for having gone through it. Sean McGrath's adolescence was like that.

We are all under hypnosis and of all the possible states of consciousness, we think in only one. This is the line we call normal and we only feel good, if we do not deviate from it.If, perchance, we step away from it in either direction, we get panicky and scare those around us.For in the moment of leaving this reality, agreed upon by humankind, terrible forces start to take effect. This book is about a man, who tries to defy these terrible forces.

I read this book and could not put it down. 'The Scream of the Butterfly' is very enticing. It is a glimpse into a world few have first hand experience with. One hears about the "Third Culture". Now I don't mean "World" but that of one being raised away from his or her traditional or national culture, hence the third culture. Being raised without definition always leaves questions. The narrator handles this transitory life well. As an army brat I have had some of these experiences - and we knew that the world we would be returning to would take some adjustments. However, we had been home for extended stays off and on and rarely exposed to true third world atmospheres first hand. This book offers a unique experience. We army brats always thought that we had the most unique life and tales - but none like this.

A very enjoyable book.

This is a genre-blurring novel - part fiction, part autobiography, part travelogue. It flows directly from the author's experience. The narrator lives in exotic places and seeks his friends and acquiantances on the fringes of society. The scenes shift rapidly and are conducive to young people who need a constant change of scenery and stimulation.

The book covers a wide variety of interesting topics. It begins with an exorcism by a monk in Burma that transfers a magical bead and a powerful energy to the narrator, a house haunted by 'nats' - spirits who have died tragically in a past life, the 1988 student uprising and the Orwellian rise of dreaded SLORC (the State Law and Order Restoration Council), a meeting, in the isolated Kora camp in Kenya, with the white hunter, game warden and conservationist George Adamson of 'Born Free' who raises orphan lion cubs, tracking a lion that has strayed from the pride and the threat of ambushes by Somali poachers and bandits armed with AK-47s.

He lives in the Comoros Island run by a mad man-turned-messiah and his pot smoking teenagers, who is overthrown in a coup by the mercenary and international bandit Bob Denard. Since they control 'the means of destruction', the white mercenaries now control the island. They talk about bizzare torture techniques and install a puppet president who they later assassinate.

The narrator later attends a vegetarian love fest, deprogramming and orientation process at a religious cult in Bangkok called the Church of the New Messiah. The New Messiah who has been predicting the Apocalype for the last twenty years instructs his people to implant a microchip into their forehead so that they can gain entrance into the 'new paradise'. In Manila, the narrator meets the Filipino action star Joe 'Macho Man' Garcia and his entourage of models. In the 'red light' district he meets Bambi, Girlie and Baby at the Pink Lady and takes them to a suite in a love hotel.

He is seen beach bumming in Boracay, living with the Ifugao tribe, previous headhunters, who were extras in the film Apocalypse Now and living in the Himalayas of India. He goes to exotic night clubs in Miami, experiences crystal meth induced psychosis that leads to confinement in an insane asylum and has a secret meeting with a rebel alliance of rastas and Cuban revolutionaries that has established Rock Creek Park in Washington DC as a guerrilla base area in preparation for a liberation war against the U.S. government.

I really do not love reading books. Most especially if it is a novel. Until my professor obliged us to read at least 1 novel and make a Critical Paper after analysis. I am lucky that I had chosen this novel. I had realized several things after reading "The Scream of the Butterfly"-- it's all about reality, about the youth...about life.

Its subtitle says it all. In his highly impressive debut novel, Gilad Elbom zaps between sex, heavy-metal and linguistics (not to mention crazy people) and takes you right along with him. Sometimes photorealistic down to the institutional kosher blue and orange cups familiar to most Israelis, then just as easily hilarious and over-the-top, this is fresh and well worth the read.

A Welcome Addition to the Literary Canon

I am so grateful that Gilad Elbom decided to write his first novel in English. I can't imagine reading this book in translation (but if English is not your first language, I'm sure the translations still stay true to form). Gilad's ability to effortlessly draw me into his make-believe(?) world is really what I enjoyed most about Scream Queens.

Some compare Scream Queens to a ride on a roller coaster. I'd agree, and add that it left me panting, excited to read Mr. Elbom's second book. This is a fun, accessible book for anyone who wants a glimpse into many minds crazier than their own. Plus, you get a rear-view-mirror glance at the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from one underexposed Israeli perspective.

You should read this book. It fills up your senses.

Enter Gilad Elbom, purveyor of dark ramblings and metal-infused interludes, straight from the heart of Israel. In this freshman release from an up-and-coming literary powerhouse we find Elbom, also the main character of Scream Queens, reflecting on his life inside a mental hospital as an assistant nurse. Through driven dialogue and off-beat characters we plunge into a world of mental instability and quirky obsessions where we are often lost between insanity and reality. A fun, tight novel told through the eyes of a self-deprecating (albeit self-involved) Israeli national, Scream Queens of the Dead Sea is bound to be a cult hit.

The only complaint I have with Gilad Elbom is that he appears to have disappeared from the internet entirely. I suppose he's teaching or something. This is one of the funniest most horrifying books you are ever going to read about one of the funniest most horrifying places on the planet. Like Lenny Bruce or Sarah Silverman, Gilad Elbom knows what makes his reader uncomfortable and he's going to poke at it for all its worth until you're laughing with tears rolling.

Sure this book loses some steam towards the end and some of the characters get lost in the shuffle, but it's worth it alone for the Israeli astronaut musings. Read it. Buy it. Realize that there's more to literature than Dan Brown.

I liked it when Jack back-chatted to the Spanish teacher- in Spanish! I am so hooked on the Mindwarp books and i wish there was more after number 10!

My favorite part was when he won the 1,000-lbs. bar of chocolate. Because it would be cool if someone really won that much chocolate. Two things I liked were when he almost got to play the video game because I thought that it was tight. Another thing I liked was when he was covered with termites because that would probably tickle a lot. Two things I didn't like were when he kept on getting knocked out. Also I didn't like it when he got taken hostage, because that was probably really scary.

This is my favorite book in the series. It is about Jack Raynes, a seventh grader in Metier, Wisconsin. He has this really bad crush on this girl and when he finally gets up enough courage to go and ask her to the out to the movies he gets hit on the with a baseball bat. Afterwards he answers his teacher in perfect spanish even though he has only been taking it for two months, and was never any good at languages. But after his thirteenth birthday he can now speak any language he wants. But will Jack be able to talk his way through an assassination aimed at him?

Wow. I was in my school library with my best friend Gisselle (which is a coincidence since a girl in the book is named Giselle) picking out a book to keep. I came across this book and it looked so interesting so I kept it. She had the same book. We both absoloutely love to read. Ever since that day Diane Hoh has been my favorite author. I read the book and I loved it! It's so mysterious. She makes me think something like that could happen to me.

I would not want to be Jess, the girl who gets haunted by Giselle.

This book is about a girl name Jess, she is student at Salem Universitiy, but she is in a off-campus dorm, but, a very strange one. Her room is very cold and there rumors about a girl that comited suicide in that same room are intimidating... No one in the campus likes to pass near it, everybody that knows they are there and is awere of what happened there, looks at Jess and her mates with petty in the eyes and comments that they hate passing by that place, it's freaky and weird. Who the wrote letter? Did Giselle really comited suicide?
Have a try to know the answers to the questions above, because it's worth it. It's very well written and the book totally absorves you since the begining... Diane Hoh, makes a perfect mix of suspence, horror and romance in a very thrilling way.... DO NOT MISS IT. YOU ARE THE ONE LOSING IT ANYWAY!

This book is basically another in a long line of coaster thrill books designed to prolong the excitement of riding these amusement park behemoths. This latest book is tastefully done and includes the requisite history with lots of familiar and some rediscovered photos and prints of old timers. A few of the newer beasts are included with enticing views of riders being turned in spine tingling directions. Coker's text is well written. This book has enough new stuff to warrant it's inclusion in your coaster book library.

When was the last time you had so much fun screaming? Probably last time you were on a roller coaster, your hair tingling, your eyeballs popping, and your stomach churning. Robert Coker, a talented journalist, has been everywhere you've been and more, and he describes the different rides he's been on, whether wooden or steel, coaster or twister, with a different appropriate writing style that will make you feel you're in the same box, hurtling hundreds of feet downwards after a longslow climb.

Maybe the best part is Coker's sneak preview of coming attractions, rides they're building out there that we may not get to stand on line for just yet. But, a boy can dream, can't he?

this book is pure 21st century doctrine and not based off 16th century doctrine taught by many vocal coaches.

I have been singing my entire life and of course like many singers ran into vocal trouble, (we all do) This book really helped me to get over many of those problems. If i have a serious question, i always have a personal session with the author Jaime =)

Bottom line, if your serious about singing, and want to eithe rhave it as a hobby or want to do it professionaly like me, this book WILL help bigtime.......bigtime...

Jaime Vendera's RYV series is one of the best books for training popular voice on the market for the following reasons;

1). It does a good job of addressing issues that matter to the contemporary vocal artist and recognizes a market that is looking for information that you cant find from more traditional voice pedagogues.

2). It covers good voice techniques that will help you to gain new levels with your vocal training and it is full of a lot of added value, such as vocal health, recommended vocal products and select articles/essays from some of the top voice teachers in the world. Its almost a "lexicon" and has qualities found in a good reference publication. Its Jaime's book, but its not all about Jaime... its very generous in how it shares information from other experts in the field.

Jaime is one of the hardest working and passionate voice pedagogues in the business. Owning one of his books is important to anyone's library of vocal books/systems.

This book has helped me greatly as a singer.
It has helped restore my confidence and clear away the confusion I struggled with for sometime trying to understand my own voice and performance.
Having had previous training before purchasing RYV2 I was well aware of how hard it is to find a great teacher. In my experience, it's like a needle in a hay stack to find a teacher that is dedicated to "the student" and is willing to invest in "your interest" and "style" as a singer, but most of all one that really knows what their talking about!! Jaime is "that" teacher, he's very real and completely unselfish with his vocal coaching. (something I have found most other teachers are not)If you watch one of Jaime Vendera's video's on YouTube you'll catch my drift. When I first read RYV2 I was blown away by the amount of information incorporated in the book. This book doesn't miss a beat. It gives you the keys to unlock the truth of solid vocal technique, to preparing your entire being for the busy life on the road as a performer. I can not tell you enough how much this has helped me!! The detail in this book is second to none. There are simple laid out guides & remedies in this book that have helped me with my own vocal health, something I am truly thankful for.

Another fantastic aspect of RYV2 is the members forum. Jaime has set up a online forum for us students to use. So when you are reading the book and doing the exercises you can go online into the forum post any questions you have and get the help you need. This is really really awesome!!
To do what we do as singers is challenging enough. But to be able to find a teacher & book that covers your essential core needs as a vocalist, is rare!!
Despite past training RYV2 is one of the best investments vocally I have ever made.

Thank you Jaime, you are truly a Godsend!

I LOVE this book!

I have been singing my whole life. I ran into problems with my voice several years ago and felt as if I was lost in a dark maze with no light at the end to help me find my way out.
Jaime's book, "Raise your Voice, 2nd edition" IS that light.
Through his book he has helped set me on the path to vocal freedom!
Everything he has included there makes perfect sense to me and I am no longer frustrated with my voice and afraid to sing.
The book is easy to read and understand and I use it as my vocal Bible.
I hightly suggest this book to ANYONE who wants to improve his/her singing voice, whether or not vocal problems exist.
Just learning to use the "Micro breath" has helped me tremendously!
Thank you Jaime!

I am the author of this book. This book is the result of 20 years of studying voice, finding faults within my own voice and learning how to correct them through the guidance of vocal health, strength training, breath development and secrets given to me by some of the most amazing singers on the planet.

Raise Your Voice 2nd Edition is a labour of love; I strived to bring together as many tips, tricks and tactics created by pro singers and coaches around the world into one book. The book is based on visualization and hard work to extend your vocal range, power, quality and stamina in minimal time. I didn't want you to have to spend years like I had.

It covers vocal health, vocal anatomy, the speaking voice, overcoming fear, staying in shape, being your best on stage and mastering the recording studio. My Vocal Stress Release Program and Isolation Method will help you minimize vocal stress and get you singing higher, louder, longer or stronger than you've ever imagined.

And if you want to learn things like the true way to scream or add grit without blowing out your voice, I have found the secret...and if you want to shatter glass with your voice, like I did on MythBusters, well, I tell you how I've shatttered over 150 of em, so you can too!

Raise Your Voice 2nd Edition also comes with over 9 hours of instructional audio & videos, downloadable exercises and a message board to discuss the techniques with fellow RYV users, all available through the Members section of the book. So, you are getting way nore than just 460 pages of vocal information. I did this out of my passion for teaching, so that each and every one of you had more than just the book to guide you through my system.

This book is endorsed by bands like Alter Bridge, RA, Dream Theater, Nitro, TNT, Symphony X, Kill Hannah, Saliva, Journey and many more as well as vocal coaches like Brett Manning, Jeannie Deva, Melissa Cross, Mark Baxter, Thomas Appel, Dena Murray, Cara Mastrey, etc. So if you want to sing rock, metal or anything modern including Blues, pop and other styles, the techniques in this book can lead you in that direction. I hope this book helps make each and every one of you a singing machine!!!

This book contains issues 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the Kiss Psycho Circus comic book. Three stories are told: 'The Witching of Adam Moon', 'Nature of the Beast', and 'Smoke & Mirrors'. All of the stories are very compelling to read, especially if you are into dark fantasy or horror. Issue # 3 is my favorite in this book. (Although the entrance of the character Kismet in issues # 4-6 is a welcome addition, not to mention Madame Raven's backstory.)

You do not need to be a fan of the band in order to fully enjoy this book, but fans of the band will enjoy all of the hidden Kiss references. Brian Holguin is one of the best comic book writers in the business and he works very well with Angel Medina/Kevin Conrad. Their visual storytelling style is excellent. Go visit the circus, you won't regret it.

This book includes issues # 7, 8, 9 and 18 of the awesome comic book Kiss Psycho Circus. Each issue is a one shot story that can be read by anyone- fan of the band or not. (Issue # 9 contains the great origin story!)

Brian Holguin really knows how to write compelling tales, and Angel Medina and Kevin Conrad work really well together as far as the art goes. The art in the last issue is by Clayton Crain, the current penciller. Great art + Great Stories = Must have book!

An excellent book. Weinstein shows through example and explanation how literature can teach us about life. Even if you have never read the books he quotes from his examples are clear. I don't think you can read this book without wanting to read more of Arnold Weinstein's books and more of the classics in general. I am now reading Dr. Weinstein's book, "Recovering Your Story".

I loved this book!!!

I could not put this book down. I talked about it to everyone I knew while I was reading and then bought copies for them! It was insightful and intuitive, a wonderful commentary on the ability of great literature to enrich our lives.

Modernity and the Doom of Consciousness

As a real fan of Arnold Weinstein's terrific lectures on both American and World Literature (from the Teaching Company, but which I borrow from my library), I had high expectations for this book. My expectations were exceeded. That's because in the lectures, Dr. Weinstein focuses almost exclusively on literature. That's not a bad thing. It's a solid traditional approach. But in this text he is also free to draw in art, theater and film where appropriate, and to treat his material thematically, instead of on a book by book basis, a practice which tends to marginalize overall thematic observations. Also, in this format Dr. Weinstein can engage in digressions, and not worry about taking up too much time doing so, as he might in a lecture situation.

Here's an example of a short digression that I found particularly insightful: "One of the ironies of modern culture is its peculiar treatment of high art. Either we subject it to the rigors of modern critical theory, so as to disclose the hidden ideological arrangements it contains; or we piously commit it to the scholar's care, with the implicit view that we "laypeople" do not have the tools of access to frequent such work with any degree of profit. It would be better if we taught our students to view all art as fair game, to approach the most formidable and hermetic works as an aspiring thief might; with intent to break and enter, to discover, steal and possess what is there." Page 334.

Summarizing his insights at the end of this highly engaging text, he meditates on the tragedy of modernity, which he sees as a surfeit of consciousness combined with a lack of human connection. Weinstein illustrates this observation most dramatically through Faulkner's Quentin Compson. First, he cites Robert Penn Warren as having gotten it right when he said that it is not that Quentin suffers from a consciousness of doom, but rather the doom of consciousness. Hamlet was perhaps the first hyperconscious modern, and Weinstein does a fine job of showing how Hamlet and Quentin are connected, too.

Implicit in this, at least in my opinion, is that hyperconsciousness has been promoted by the consumer society. It has filled the world with things, variations of things upon things, filling up our lives with endless vexed choices and in so doing both stokes and attempts to put out the fire of hyperconsciouness. In either case we are seduced into ignoring the fast beating heart of our own humanity as this world of things muffles the scream that goes through the house of our bodies and consciousness.

Weinstein's observations are like those moments you have in life where for an instant, a fog of clarity fills your heart and mind. He is that mist of understanding you cannot describe, and best of all he is accessible in portable paperback. I am currently a student of his and he gives a reader the tools of a new set of eyes that you put together by yourself as you learn. Why do we read things? Weinsteing will lead you to your own answer, and reading will never be the same. ...literature's LSD with no harmful side effects.

For a visceral thrill we can always count on Arnold--not Schwarzenegger in this case, but Arnold Weinstein, whose books combine a whole lot of learning with the human touch of passion and the starkness of memory. Arnold's dream of a scream loud enough to wake up an entire household clues us in immediately that he is a sensitive, caring man, with definite issues regarding boundaries. No wonder he then focusses on the famous Munch painting in which space and time are caught up and expressed in a soundless scream, a visceral pain of being that transcends the visual and becomes auditory, or not quite.

Many professors have written reams about Munch's SCREAM, but few have managed to bring it into the mainstream of Western intellectual culture. As he did in his book about spaces and the heimlich, Weinstein constantly surprises and envigorates the tiredest old subjects, I can just imagine what he does to his students!

Another Fantastic Hawkman Mystery!

Review Date: 2003-10-29
Ms. Sullivan La Pierre writes another intriguing Hawkman mystery that kept me turning the pages. I truly love this author's clean style and plot twists. She always keeps me guessing!

Richard Clifford, a deaf seventeen-year-old, comes home from a motorcycle ride to find his mother, Francine, and dog brutally murdered on the kitchen floor. Not having a phone to contact the police, he decides to wait until his neighbors, the Zankers, get home from vacation. Mr. Zanker would know what to do.

Private Eye Tom Casey, also known as Hawkman, spies Richard watching him and his wife, Jennifer, while they train a falcon to hunt and return to them. Hawkman is puzzled as to why the young man doesn't come out to at least say hello, and his suspicious nature kicks in. Later he discovers the boy's mother has been murdered and decides to help him find the killer.

Hawkman finds himself in a twisted mangled mystery to untangle with very few clues. Richard has some clues, but he's not in the mood to share, because he's bent on revenge and wants a whack at the killer before the police get there first. Only problem is, the police have Richard on their suspect list.

Frank Alberts, a new deputy in town, has a snotty attitude toward Richard, because Francine brushed off his romantic advances. Could Frank have been so mad he resorted to murder?

Richard's Uncle Joe Clifford fled town and doesn't want anyone to find him. Why? And what did Joe have to do with Frank Alberts?

Jerome, "hermit of the hills" Arnold disappeared for several days around the time of Francine's murder. Did he leave town the day before or the day after her death? And what is Jerome hiding in that shack he calls home?

I must admit while reading THE SILENT SCREAM late at night all alone at home I got spooked and had to get up to make sure all my windows and doors were locked! This is a fantastic mystery!

By TT reviewer John Richard

Richard Clifford, a deaf boy living on a farm with his mother, arrives home after a motorcycle ride.THE SILENT SCREAM is a fast read, blazing through the pages with the speed of a falcon in a dive. The main character, Tom Casey, and his wife are in a sense, the modern version of Nick and Nora Charles, only with their own unique bent. Tom's disfigurement for example only adds to his likeableness. Plus he's caring and compassionate, and almost non-violent, which are very rare elements in the modern PI story. The only downside though, is the ending, which slowed after the climax, though thirty pages remained! Despite this minor shortcoming, the novel is an amazing read, going back to the age where the PI often referred to his mental skills, got along well with the police, and often assisted them in the investigations. A delightful read for any mystery lover, though especially for those who miss the golden age of the thinking PI.

Seventeen-year-old Richard Clifford returns to his isolated ranch home from a motorcycle ride to find his mother and dog both slaughtered in their kitchen. Not having a telephone, he rides his motorcycle to the Zanker house ten miles away. The Zankers are gone and the only other neighbor, old Jerome isn't home either. Richard is deaf, his father died of cancer a year ago, he doesn't know where his only uncle is, he knows of no other neighbors but the Zankers and Jerome.

The smell in the house becomes nauseating. Richard buries his dog under his mother's favorite tree. After washing his mother's violated body and dressing her in a clean dress he wraps her in a quilt and a plastic table cloth and seals her body in a granary to protect it from rodents and insects. Richard cleans up the rest of the mess in the house and anxiously awaits the return of his neighbors. As soon as the crime is reported to the authorities he can begin to search for the murderer himself.

Private Detective, Tom Casey, better known as Hawkman assists the sheriff's office in their investigation. He alone is convinced of Richard's innocence. The boy does show an unusual ability with a knife, proven when he's attacked by a mountain lion and kills it, skins it and tans the hide. He becomes a focal point of abuse by an gang of outlaw bikers and since he can't hear, he can't anticipate the approach of predators whether two or four legged. Richard does perform his mundane chores as usual, milks the cow, does the chores, tends his mother's garden-appears to be going about life as usual, intent on staying on his own land. But he's a minor and unless his uncle can be found Richard will become a ward of the court.

Once again Betty Sullivan La Pierre has involved me in the lives of her characters to such an extent that after beginning, I didn't have the option of closing the book until the surprise at the end. Having a hearing disorder myself, I can attest to the authenticity of her character's struggles. This author consistently writes good clean, captivating mysteries peopled with substantial characters in sensorially credible scenes and settings that live in the reader's memory after the solution. I give THE SILENT SCREAM five stars.

Seventeen-year-old Richard Clifford already had two strikes against him, his father had died recently, leaving him, and his mother, alone. And he was deaf. But the worst was yet to come.

After a motorcycle ride in the hills, one afternoon, Richard opened the front door, of his home, to find his beautiful mother, and his pet dog, Ruffy, laying in pools of blood on the floor. Both had, had their throats slit.

Richard didn't know what to do. There was no phone in the house. The Zanker's ranch was at least ten miles down the hill from the Clifford's little farm, and the only other person living anywhere near, was an old hermit named Jerome who lived up the hill from them. Both were not home. What could he do other than to try and preserve all the evidence he could, and protect the bodies from predators until help could be found.

And so begins the story of a remarkable seventeen year old, and the people who came forward to help him.

After what to Richard seemed like months, but in actuality was only four days, Herb and Elsie Zanker returned home from a visit with one of their daughters. Herb thought he should take up some supplies to the Cliffords as they were probably running low on things since he and Elsie had been gone longer than they expected. Upon arriving at the Cliffords farm, Herb found out what had happened.

Herb called the police. While the police were examining the scene for evidence, and recovering the bodies of the dog, and Richard's mother, Tom Casey, Private Investigator, otherwise known as Hawkman by his family and friends, was training the new falcon that his wife, Jennifer, had given him for his birthday in the woods nearby. He soon sees all the commotion up at the farm and decides to go investigate.

Standing in the shadows, and listening to the police talk to Richard, and to Richard's explanation of what happened, Hawkman decides that this young man needs someone to help him. Otherwise he doesn't feel that Richard has much of a chance against the legal system at all.

Ms. La Pierre has written a story that you absolutely will not be able to put down. She gets your total attention on the first page, and continues to hold it until you have finished the last page.

Her characters grab all of your emotions, from compassion to complete, and total hatred. I went through whole spectrum. I also went through a box of tissues before I finished the first chapter; it was so compelling.

I can't recommend THE SILENT SCREAM enough. To miss this wonderful book is something no one should do. You will not forget it even after you have finally put it down. It will stay in your memory for a long time to come.

I can't wait to read more of Betty Sullivan LaPierre's books. She is a very talented author, and I am so glad that she has decided to share her talent with the world. Her talent is one that should never be hidden, and she sure displayed it at it's best in THE SILENT SCREAM.

you spellbound from the beginning to the very end.

Her cast of characters will keep you on your toes. You'll wish you had
