Her "Little Way" is so simple and based on love. I have personally found Story of a Soul very useful in my spiritual life. Even though she is a saint, she is very easy to relate to where ever you are in life's journey. It is a book that I certainly will be reading again as it has made such an impact on my life. Saint Therese may be called The Little Flower but after reading this you realise that she is a stirdy little flower made of steel! A lot of people can be put off her by how she is portrayed, as was I before I read about her life in her words. So get to know her!B0006W4KV25002008-04-30A devotional classic is excellent introduction to this SaintThis book is a great place to start learning about Therese. Includes the full text of the autobiography, and some supplementary material incl. a introduction to the autobiography and life of Therese and some of her letters and prayers. You can get much of this stuff online, but the book is a delight, with many pictures.

Therese is a very special person, and I recommend a familiarity with her beautiful soul.

B0006W4KV25012007-07-23The Little Flower and Her Little Way .Excellent book and in her own words unedited. Also a good little book on St. Therese is 'Heart of a Soul'. This book Iam reviewing is A MUST Read.B0006W4KV2117202007-05-26The book issued by Echo Library in 2006, edited by T. Taylor, is an obsolete translation of an inauthentic version of a classicRev. Thomas Taylor's early 20th century translation of the memoir of St. Therese of Lisieux, unfortunately republished in 2006 by Echo Library, was made from the only manuscript then available outside her monastery, one substantially rewritten by Therese's sister Pauline, who made seven thousand changes. Scholars interested in the documents which gave rise to the cult of St. Therese may wish to consult early versions of Taylor. I urge those who want to read what Therese wrote to read the third edition of "Story of a Soul" translated by Fr. John Clarke, OCD, and published by ICS Publications in 1976. The Clarke translation, made from the unretouched manuscript written by Therese (an authentic manuscript published in French only in 1956), is recognized as the standard throughout the English-speaking world. No other translation compares to it. The book is enriched by an introduction, afterword, and easy-to-read notes that set Therese's manuscripts in the context of her life, and the index makes it even more useful. Whether you have not read "Story of a Soul" or have read only earlier English translations (Taylor, Knox, Beevers), the Clarke translation will open the world of Therese to you. Don't miss it. You'll find it at Story of a Soul: The Autobiography of St. Therese of Lisieux, Third EditionB0006W4KV25452007-01-11Story of a Soul: The Autobiography of St. Therese of Lisieux, Third EditionIt is a well written, inspirational text. I really liked the historical aspects as well as the religious excerpts. Great book for anyone experiencing an ongoing illness. It helps to put the disease in perspective. :)This book first published in 1898 in a highly edited verson, quickly became a modern spiritual classic, read by millions and tanslated into over fifty-five languages. John Clarke's acclaimed translation, first published in 1975, is now accepted as the standard throughout the English-speaking world.0895553449Thoughts of St. Therese: The Little Flower of Jesus Carmelite of the Monastery of Lisieux, 1873-18970385523416Jesus of Nazareth0385520379Mother Teresa: Come Be My Light - The Private Writings of the Saint of Calcutta0809143747The Little Way for Every Day: Thoughts from Therese of Lisieux0375725628Introduction to the Devout Life12304Saints12292Catholicism12290Christianity22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books16009741Specific Congregations & Orders16009721Congregations & Orders12290Christianity22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books173165Therese of Lisieux297891( T )297871Authors, A-Z22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books0385029039http://www.amazon.com/Autobiography-Saint-Therese-Lisieux-Story/dp/0385029039%3FSubscriptionId%3D05ERXYTS89KFGEPQR5G2%26tag%3Dthebookrevi0b-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D038502903917694http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/4162DF21AAL._SL75_.jpg7549http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/4162DF21AAL._SL160_.jpg160105http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/4162DF21AAL.jpg475313PaperbackJohn Beevers282.0929780385029032530385029039EnglishEnglishEnglish8221095USD$10.95Image1192Book1987-12-17Image1987-11-17ImageThe Autobiography of Saint Therese of Lisieux: The Story of a Soul49554597USD$5.9799USD$0.9930460011ATVPDKIKX0DERhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/help/seller/home.html?seller=ATVPDKIKX0DERNewnewussFzaT8U7FfKlDecmxiQyiijbsK5t4%2BXAodaFhDeW7%2BM87F%2F%2BnsBWXTeQtt4F6bWHhP3HH0%2FHdZc8d1HGsgTg%3D%3D876USD$8.76Usually ships in 24 hours5.026603850290395222007-08-09Great BookReally enjoyed reading this book. What divine wisdom is spoken by this saint of the Church!! Her "Little Way" to serving and loving Jesus is persuasive to anyone struggling with the "how" of living a Christlike life.03850290395042007-01-19Great Seller!Seller had a great price for the product and she was very honest about the condition of the book. 0385029039525252006-01-05The Little FlowerTherese of Lisieux lived a very sheltered life. As we begin the book she actually seems to be spoiled by her family. Her parents were financially secure and devoutly religious. Therese knew she wanted to be a nun from the age of three. She had bouts of poor health and she suffered the loss of her mother early in her life. And then the sisters she relied on left one by one to join the convent. But she also had security and love from her family. She also had an incredible sense of self-direction.

In her book Saint Therese describes souls as similar to different types of flowers. Some are roses, others lilies, and some like orchids, for example. And all can be equally pleasing to God in their own way, when seeking his role for them. People have different talents and different struggles, but these characteristics do not mean that any type is more valued than the other.

Saint Therese describes the Christian Church as one body, and how she wants to be the heart that loves. She writes frequently of the many ways that God is love. She believed that heaven for her would be to be able to help people on earth after she died. She writes that any sacrifice in daily life can be offered to God, for the conversion of souls, or help of others, whether it is the suffering of an illness or loss, or the performance of a mundane daily chore. Therese also writes much she preferred to speak directly to God as a child when she prayed instead of using formal liturgy.
0385029039510102005-09-25"Story of a Soul" has Many Lessons to Offer"Story of a Soul" is a collection of three manuscripts written by Therese of Lisieux near the end of her very brief life. Therese lived in France at the end of the 19th century and spent nine of her twenty-four years in a Carmelite cloister, yet this simple woman and her "little way" have touched millions of lives in the years since her death.

Therese lived and preached a spirituality based on the scripture passages that urge becoming like a little child, living a life of trust in God. While she never did anything the world might consider "great", she made the most of the opportunities presented to her. She took advantage of offering to God little sacrifices such as sitting straight in a chair without resting her back and going out of her way to be kind to a fellow sister she did not particularly care for.

From her earliest years, she had an intimate relationship with Jesus. Although she was very close to her family, She writes, "I knew how to speak only to [Jesus]; conversations with creatures, even pious conversations, fatigued my soul." In her final year, as she was dying from tuberculosis, she welcomed her suffering even as she experienced a crisis of faith which plunged her into a dark night of the soul.

The three manuscripts that comprise "Story of a Soul" each have a different tone due to the fact that they were addressed to three different people in response to three distinct requests. Manuscript "A" is addressed to Therese's sister Pauline, also known as Mother Agnes. She was a Carmelite nun as well and at the time was the Prioress of the convent. Mother Agnes had asked her to put down on paper her recollections from her childhood. It was intended as a "family souvenir" and as a result has a very familiar, sentimental tone. In it, Therese tells the story of her life from her earliest remembrances through her profession as a Carmelite.

Manuscript "B" was directed to another of Therese's elder sisters, Marie, who also resided at the Carmel cloister. Sister Marie of the Sacred Heart later recalled that "I asked her myself during her last retreat (September, 1896) to put in writing her little doctrine as I called it." The shortest of the three manuscripts, it contains the heart of Therese's insights. It consists of a letter to her sister in which she explains that "Jesus does not demand great actions from us but simply surrender and gratitude," and a love letter to Jesus in which she confides her desire to be "the warrior, the priest, the apostle, the doctor, the martyr." Using the metaphor that St. Paul established in 1 Corinthians 12 of the body of Christ with its many parts, Therese comes to the conclusion that in order to fulfill her desire to be all things she must be love. "I shall be love. Thus I shall be everything, and thus my dream will be realized."

In Manuscript "C", Therese returns to the story of her life, this time at the request of Mother Marie de Gonzague who had taken over as Prioress. It tells of her remaining years at Carmel up to three months before her death in 1897 when she no longer had the energy to write. In her final words she exclaims "I go to Him with confidence and love . . ."

Therese never intended any of these words for publication, yet in the last months of her life she seemed to have had a premonition that her words would eventually do much good in the world. "Story of a Soul" provides a blueprint for a life lived in relationship with Christ. Therese comes across as extremely human, struggling with life as all of us do, yet she had such trust and faith. We are wise to learn from her example.
[...]A spiritual guide for millions the world over, this is the autobiography of a holy woman who "attained to the knowledge of supernatural things in such abundant measure that she was able to point out the sure way of salvation to others." --Pope Pius XI0486426939Dark Night of the Soul0385523416Jesus of Nazareth0385520379Mother Teresa: Come Be My Light - The Private Writings of the Saint of Calcutta0156010860The Seven Storey Mountain0375725628Introduction to the Devout Life2375General2Biographies & Memoirs1000Subjects283155Books4978Spain4935Europe9History1000Subjects283155Books69893General4952France4935Europe9History1000Subjects283155Books12304Saints12292Catholicism12290Christianity22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books12339Faith12333Christian Living12290Christianity22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books12352Catholic12350Church History12290Christianity22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books12504General22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books173165Therese of Lisieux297891( T )297871Authors, A-Z22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books400272011Paperback394184011Mass Market401237011Trade394174011Binding (binding)388186011Refinements283155Books618083011Printed Books618072011Format (feature_browse-bin)388186011Refinements283155BooksR2MY13JURZUC7CA Few of My Favorite Catholic ThingsRRB30T8EDWEQ1Great Stories of Catholic Priests & Religious of Our TimeR2UI3LG0EZ1QQHBooks That Never Grow StaleBFO2K32U8F0AThe 33 "Doctors of the Church" in Alphabetical Order3SJUT4OLGAGYVAbout the Saints2Y4ORFD9KLE2MEssential Library for Catholics & Converts1X64HM9ECLEXJGood catholic books17KSMAFIF64MUBooks that changed my mind2Z6YLCCPHFC59Good Catholic Reading37C3HK6JFG01CHeroes of Love0385492618http://www.amazon.com/Maurice-Therese-Patrick-Ahern/dp/0385492618%3FSubscriptionId%3D05ERXYTS89KFGEPQR5G2%26tag%3Dthebookrevi0b-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D0385492618524796http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41KHWPHB4CL._SL75_.jpg7550http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41KHWPHB4CL._SL160_.jpg160107http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41KHWPHB4CL.jpg475319Patrick AhernHardcover282.092297803854926141100385492618EnglishEnglishEnglish7501995USD$19.95Doubleday1304Book1998-09-15Doubleday1998-09-15DoubledayMaurice and Therese71540799USD$7.9938USD$0.381995USD$19.9563030005.026603854926185002007-09-17Encounter with St. ThereseA revealing portrait of a great saint, this book contains the correspondence between St. Therese and her spiritual brother Maurice Belliere, a struggling young seminarian. As you read the letters you can see the growing friendship between the saint and the seminarian as they learn about each other more. Even though the letters were only intended for Maurice, we can learn deeper throught them the meaning of her " little way ". It is also amazing that despite of her own struggles with illness and the spiritual darkness she is experiencing, she is still able to uplift and encourage Maurice in his difficulties. The author also gives explanations after each letter which gives us a picture of what is happening in thier lives while they were answering the other one's letter. A book I would highly recommend especially for those interested in St. Therese and her little way.03854926185222006-01-09A true love story indeed! This book changed my life!
I never have shown much of an intrest in St. Therese. Many people are devoted, but I never understood why.

This book helped me to see why.

This book taught me how to love and taught me much about mercy and trust.

Therese, a doctor of the Catholic Church, writes beautiful letters to Maurice, at times a somewhat confused seminarian. Therese meets us at our level to show us the love of Jesus.
This book is a one that points past the works of Therese, and straight to Christ.

God is nothing but mercy and love.
Thank you for showing me St. Therese!03854926185222005-02-17Why is this book out of print? This is a fantastic book! I enjoyed reading it immensely, and I want to give copies away to friends. I am sad to see it is out of print. It really should be brought back. It has a powerful synthesis of the Little Way, and the correspondence with Maurice brings this out very well. It becomes a correspondence and a comparison between a saint and someone who is trying to become one. Most of us can relate well with Maurice. The way St Therese relates with him helps me see the role of the saints in our life.

Bring this book back in print!!!03854926185222003-07-13A most beautiful book about Little Therese of Lisieuxif you admire and hold lots of devotion for St. Therese of Lisieux as I have for so long now- she always said she was Little Therese. However in this book the most moving charisma of her love and personality are seen in a "big" way regarding her friendship with Maurice. We see a saint so full of love and compassion for his shortcomings and never does she once in this book show anything but encouragement to Maurice. There are many lessons to be learned in reflecting on this book . One of the most significant things I feel is our should be support to our priests, bishops and clergy in the universal catholic church. As Maurice radiates in this book as an aspiring semanarian our clergy does have up's and down's also. May we all love our clergy as St. Therese did, does and symbolizes her special love for the priests, and bishops. A most marvelous book. As the late John Cardinal O'Connor said in his review to Ahern's book " We see Therese now more as a woman and we are fascinated. :)03854926185992001-11-22WonderfulWhat a wonderful book about a wonderful saint! This book, while not a difficult read, is certainly rich in emotion, beauty, and spirituality. If you have read St.Therese's "Story of a Soul", this is an excellent "second book" to read. It tells of the story of a relationship between a seminarian/priest and St.Therese in her last days. I recommend it for anyone's spiritual edification, especially Catholic Christians. As Saint Thérèse lay dying in the Carmel of Lisieux, she overheard a conversation that amused her. Outside her window, two nuns were discussing what they could write in her obituary that could possibly be of any interest, since the twenty-four-year-old nun had never done anything worth noting. Thérèse was pleased, for she had always kept a low profile. With the posthumous publication of her spiritual autobiography in 1898, however, that low profile would vanish instantly. She became one of the most beloved saints of all time, and her influence will expand dramatically because of Pope John Paul II's declaration that she is a Doctor of the Church. Amid growing interest in her writings comes the collected correspondence between herself and a humble young seminarian, Maurice Bellière. Though they never met in person, they exchanged twenty-one letters that open a window on the heart of Saint Thérèse that would have remained forever closed had Maurice not written to the Mother Superior at the convent asking for a nun to pray for him. The Mother Superior chose Thérèse, and in these conversational letters the Little Flower reveals herself in a way that we would never have known from her autobiography. In his accompanying text, Bishop Patrick Ahern expertly leads the reader into the worlds of Maurice and Thérèse and reveals the full beauty of this saint's spirituality.St. Therese of Lisieux, who died unknown in a Carmelite convent at the age of 24, became one of the most influential women in the world after her autobiography (The Story of a Soul) was posthumously published in 1898. Mother Teresa of Calcutta took her name from Therese; Edith Piaf kept Therese's picture on her night table; in 1997, Pope John Paul II made her a Doctor of the Church-- only the third woman to receive this distinction. Her autobiography describes a spiritual life full of everyday revelations--she saw God in jam sandwiches, pretty hats, and beautiful flowers. Maurice and Therese: The Story of a Love shows how her commonplace spirituality ministered to an aimless young priest unsure of his vocation and unstable in his devotion. Maurice Belliere wrote to Therese's Mother Prioress to ask that a nun pray for him, Therese was assigned to the task, and their 21 letters (edited and with commentary by Patrick Traherne) illustrate the young woman's extraordinary ability to love. She wasn't deeply familiar with Maurice, and she didn't agree with him on lots of things, but she was naturally inclined to have faith in him--a necessary aspect of love, and one that deserves attention. --Michael Joseph Gross0385523416Jesus of Nazareth0385520379Mother Teresa: Come Be My Light - The Private Writings of the Saint of Calcutta0935216588Story of a Soul: The Autobiography of St. Therese of Lisieux, Third EditionB000OYNVOYInto Great Silence (Two-Disc Set)1928832288I Believe in Love: A Personal Retreat Based on the Teaching of St. Therese of Lisieux2398Religious2396Leaders & Notable People2Biographies & Memoirs1000Subjects283155Books2445Women2437Specific Groups2Biographies & Memoirs1000Subjects283155Books12295General12292Catholicism12290Christianity22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books12297Inspirational12292Catholicism12290Christianity22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books12304Saints12292Catholicism12290Christianity22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books172801Seminary172800Education12290Christianity22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books172813Feminist12449Theology12290Christianity22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books3043241Women's Issues12333Christian Living12290Christianity22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books16009701Modern Church12350Church History12290Christianity22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books12504General22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books394181011Hardcover394174011Binding (binding)388186011Refinements283155Books618083011Printed Books618072011Format (feature_browse-bin)388186011Refinements283155BooksR3AORGH8DGA34MMy favorite books about and by Therese of Lisieux0520227573http://www.amazon.com/Augustine-Hippo-Biography-New-Epilogue/dp/0520227573%3FSubscriptionId%3D05ERXYTS89KFGEPQR5G2%26tag%3Dthebookrevi0b-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D052022757370631http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/517K6Z78J2L._SL75_.jpg7549http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/517K6Z78J2L._SL160_.jpg160104http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/517K6Z78J2L.jpg475309Peter BrownPaperback270.209297805202275761800520227573EnglishEnglishEnglish8402295USD$22.95University of California Press1576Book2000-08-07University of California PressUniversity of California PressAugustine of Hippo: A Biography (New Edition, with an Epilogue)1555501222USD$12.22900USD$9.0023280011ATVPDKIKX0DERhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/help/seller/home.html?seller=ATVPDKIKX0DERNewnewO6d39fwxDTFVjGkc28%2FLtRSCx%2Ba4fYehP0fgiB0cpwYYnF37gC2P15bPDOuyqMc%2FdjiqEut%2FJpKMItX6LaI5xw%3D%3D1561USD$15.61Usually ships in 24 hours5.025505202275735002008-07-03Bio of St AGustinethis is the best and most easily understood bio of St Augustine, I love it.05202275735002008-02-10Excellent book, but not for the neophyteThis is an excellent scholarly biography of Augustine of Hippo. Peter Brown gives a thorough and balanced treatment of all of the important aspects of Augustine's life, thought, and historical context. I personally used this book as my set textbook for an independent study course I took on St. Augustine when I was attending university.

Brown does a very good job of summarizing important philosophical and theological concepts that are central to understanding Augustine's significance to the history of Christianity.

However, despite my very positive appraisal of this book, I feel that this might not be the best choice for people making their first entry into Augustine. 05202275735002007-11-13A brilliant thinker made accessibleAugustine's is a severe and forbidding character. His intellectually rigorous reasoning on(and harsh views of) salvation and grace made him an inspiration to Calvin and the Puritans. But gloomy though his view of human nature might be, Augustine was intense and passionate, a theologian and philosopher with a poet's sensitivity to natural beauty and the use of language. This books puts the reader in Augustine's mind and life: there is the young man dedicated to an idealistic pursuit of truth, surrounded by admiring friends and family; later, his imposition of that truth on the all-too-human structure of the early Christian church will be fraught with challenge. Augustine knew Rome and Roman Africa in their glory days; he died as Africa fell to Vandal invaders who would impose a century of brutal rule. Peter Brown brings the tumultuous period in which Augustine lived fully and comprehensively alive; he makes us one with a brilliant, uncompromising, surprisingly compassionate human being.05202275735012007-09-03Augustine of Hippo: A BiographyThis a revised edition of a very good biography of St Augustine of Hippo. Although I am in the mist of reading this bio I find the writing inviting and histology very well done.05202275735232007-07-28Epic study of Western Christianity's towering geniusPeter Brown's AUGUSTINE of HIPPO is epic study of the adventure...the spiritual-intellectual ODYSSEY...that is Life of Aurelius Augustine,Saint and uber-Father of the Christian Church in the West. Brown's peerless biography details(36chapters;437pp)a life of towering intellectual genius from birth in AD 354 in Thagaste,Province of Northern Africa SPQR ;until his death as Bishop of Hippo in AD 430.His education is sweepingly arrayed ~beginning in Carthage as orator and magister;his thorough indoctrination in Manichaeism; his meeting with St.Ambrose and immersion in philosophy of Platonist...the birth & death of his brilliant son,Adeodatus,"gift of God"..;the everlasting presence/influence of his mother,Monica; the epiphany cited in THE CONFESSIONS,"to take and read(Biblical exhortations of St. Paul)"followed by his Conversion/Baptism and quick-fire Ordination as Roman Catholic priest;and almost-instant elevation to Bishop. This prelude is followed by Augustine's unsurpassed career as The West's first & premier existential-psychologist:THOU HAS MADE US FOR THYSELF LORD; AND OUR HEARTS ARE FOREVER RESTLESS UNTIL THEY REST IN THEE; and ironic humorist~LORD MAKE ME PURE...BUT NOT TODAY. As well as arch-foe of anti-Catholic heresy~Donatism; Pelagianism;and the Occult(with which he was expertly familiar having been 10 year Initiate therein).

Augustine's CITY of GOD is not only the first consummate philosophy of History (surpassing Herodotus "then";and Hegel/Spengler & even Marx "now" in effect on history. CITY of GOD shaped the LOGOS,world-view of Western Man for 1000 years/entire MIDDLE AGES(ca~AD 476-AD 1517).Austine wrote catechisms ENCHIRIDION);treatises on Free Will;predestination;and is formulator of the Christian concept of ORIGINAL SIN.Augustinian theology l comprises(ironically)most fundamental notions of Protestant Reformers. Catholic Church champion St.Thomas Aquinas is -as-indebted to him as to Aristotle in framing THE SUMMA THEOLOGICA.

Peter Brown's new St.AUGUSTINE of HIPPO is not so much revision but carefully written...in modus of Augustine..reflection on what he had once written. There is brief preface. There is extensively documented epilogue comprised as New Evidence;& New Directions(pp441-520).There is expanded bibliography & index. The 1967 edition is 463pp;the new is 538pp.
Any student of Augustine knows that with him "more is More. Whether 75pp mas is MORE, the reader will of course determine.Brown's book is the classic, unlikely to be surpassed, study of a genius in the service of God,SERVUS DEI. Any serious student of theology, philosophy;or history of Ideas must confront St.Augustine of Hippo. This profound, mythology-like masterwork is not the opus to start with. But when you're ready "to TAKE & READ",it is matchless story-telling that is worthy of the unique, perhaps most remarkable,QUEST for God & Truth that a great and gifted man ever committed his life toward. (777 stars) This classic biography was first published thirty years ago and has since established itself as the standard account of Saint Augustine's life and teaching. The remarkable discovery recently of a considerable number of letters and sermons by Augustine has thrown fresh light on the first and last decades of his experience as a bishop. These circumstantial texts have led Peter Brown to reconsider some of his judgments on Augustine, both as the author of the Confessions and as the elderly bishop preaching and writing in the last years of Roman rule in north Africa. Brown's reflections on the significance of these exciting new documents are contained in two chapters of a substantial Epilogue to his biography (the text of which is unaltered). He also reviews the changes in scholarship about Augustine since the 1960s. A personal as well as a scholarly fascination infuse the book-length epilogue and notes that Brown has added to his acclaimed portrait of the bishop of Hippo.0140448942City of God (Penguin Classics)0192833723St. Augustine Confessions (Oxford World's Classics)0393958035The World of Late Antiquity AD 150-750: AD 150-750 (Library of World Civilization)0631221387The Rise of Western Christendom: Triumph and Diversity, A.D. 200-1000, 2nd Edition (The Making of Europe)052165985XThe Cambridge Companion to Augustine (Cambridge Companions to Philosophy)2375General2Biographies & Memoirs1000Subjects283155Books2393General2376Historical2Biographies & Memoirs1000Subjects283155Books2398Religious2396Leaders & Notable People2Biographies & Memoirs1000Subjects283155Books917048Augustine, Saint916930( A )916928People, A-Z2Biographies & Memoirs1000Subjects283155Books4879General4873Ancient9History1000Subjects283155Books5039General5035World9History1000Subjects283155Books12304Saints12292Catholicism12290Christianity22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books12362General12360Ministry & Church Leadership12290Christianity22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books400272011Paperback394184011Mass Market401237011Trade394174011Binding (binding)388186011Refinements283155Books618083011Printed Books618072011Format (feature_browse-bin)388186011Refinements283155Books712982011General AAS465600New & Used Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books713014011General AAS319654011Qualifying Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155BooksR1RVEJY3HR6NCGChristian Biography: A WishlistR26ZXM0PJ7O1MRBasic books for the history of Late AntiquityR2F36AC2Q68YOR23 Books I Had to Read 1st Semester of Grad School13UYGXV97GQJWClassical Christian theology with an Anglican emphasis3RRORS1MYCAKKSidelights on Pope Benedict XVIBFO2K32U8F0AThe 33 "Doctors of the Church" in Alphabetical OrderCTGO6JZIBHYC"Books to Read Before I Die"2CT2YOTOU88P1Books! For anyone struggling with the "Dark Night" this book is a must. Very reassuring and comforting to know you don't walk alone and that God is always there. This book will deepen your faith.09352161465242007-06-01Best Value...Always go with hard cover books, becuase they last a lifetime! Spend the extra 5 or 7 dollars so that you don't have to spend the extra $20 to get a replacment book. I haven't read it yet, but to have all of St. John's works in one place is deffinetly a good deal. Buying one book is way cheaper then buying 4 or 5 books. 09352161465992007-01-16Wisdom is simplicityA masterpiece. The clarity of the text is unsurpassed and the effect is ultimately transcendant. I can see how it might be difficult for people who have not participated in at least the first night of this process to absorb the experience he is trying to relate. Nonetheless he is absolutley correct. If you could only have one book in life, this would definetely be a consideration, in that it completely details the process of the mystical experience. I could ramble on forever, but just buy it. It will be the best money you've spent. Bless.09352161465772006-11-04What a book! This is not an easy read, but something that is well worth the effort! Parts of the text have changed my life already. I highly recommend this book for anyone wishing to draw closer to our Lord.
0935216146517202006-10-13A brilliant but dark way to reach GodLike many saints, when you approach St John you feel like you are approaching a figure who is more than human. St John seems to have reached heights and depths of the human psyche and spirit the ordinary mortal cannot hope to match.

Certainly St John's path contains many paradoxes and contradictions; I am sure if he had been born in the same period in Japan he would have been a great Zen Buddhist monk. His path is also soaring and frightening, designed to purge the Christian contemplative of every ego desire and attachment which hinders our union to God. His path of union is also terrifying for its intensity and the degree of suffering it seems to require.

St John himself only seemed to reach the state of union through a 'dark night' while he was imprisoned in a bleak monastary prison for allegedly breaking several rules of his order. Tortured, beaten, and starved, the Sanjuanist monk experienced an incredible mystical experience which led him to write several beautiful poems modelled on the Bible's book of 'Songs' and also on the Psalms and Lamentations of Jeremiah. He later explained the meaning of his poems as the means through which anyone, provided they can practice enough self discipline and trust enough in the grace of God, can achieve an intimate union to God in this life.

Unfortunately I doubt in our consumer age, so focused on immediate gratification of every sensual and physical desire, so obsessed with money and wealth and possessing material things, and so denigrating of any form of 'useless' focus on the 'impractical' which doesn't productively 'do' something, can really well appreciate John's message. John was no believer in compromise; it was either the way of the cross, which meant giving your life over to Christ at all cost, or you risked perdition.

Strangely though, his works have enormous popularity and are cropping up everywhere. His works seem to fill a void, a great void in the human spirit and heart, which no material good or amount of money can fill. Perhaps few if anyone can ascend to the top of Mt Carmel in our era, but we can at least try, even a little.0960087664Collected Works of St. Teresa of Avila (Collected Works of St. Teresa of Avila ) Vol.20385036434Interior Castle0486426939Dark Night of the Soul0385065396The Way of Perfection0898702631Fire Within: St. Teresa of Avila, St. John of the Cross, and the Gospel-On Prayer12295General12292Catholicism12290Christianity22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books12304Saints12292Catholicism12290Christianity22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books12455Catholic12449Theology12290Christianity22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books12504General22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books173092John of the Cross297881( J )297871Authors, A-Z22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books400272011Paperback394184011Mass Market401237011Trade394174011Binding (binding)388186011Refinements283155Books618083011Printed Books618072011Format (feature_browse-bin)388186011Refinements283155BooksR70EGAA2G7GPADiscovering ChristianityR27GFPX0NVSHF4The Dark Night of the Soul: “the knowledge of oneself and..."R3I9K4T4ZQE77XBooks that helped me to experience the Kingdom of HeavenR1ZRGKYQB4W9TUTrina's PicksR2KP53CBAL7OTJMust-Read Catholic ClassicsR1ZJWASNDK7MBOA guide to Catholic SaintsR2GH7A9MSOAHK5Discover the Theology of the CrossR6KVO5K30OR83Carmelite Spirituality and Contemplative PrayerR1GWFF33WVPLT8Transform Your Faith, List 5 of 7R2XZ7WYX47NQ34Esoteric Christianity1931018383http://www.amazon.com/Fulfillment-All-Desire-Ralph-Martin/dp/1931018383%3FSubscriptionId%3D05ERXYTS89KFGEPQR5G2%26tag%3Dthebookrevi0b-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D1931018383294315http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41WMJ4W9Z6L._SL75_.jpg7549http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41WMJ4W9Z6L._SL160_.jpg160104http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41WMJ4W9Z6L.jpg500324Ralph MartinHardcover97819310183881601931018383EnglishEnglishEnglish9402695USD$26.95Emmaus Road Publishing1496Book2006-08-01Emmaus Road PublishingEmmaus Road PublishingThe Fulfillment of All Desire1406101674USD$16.741902USD$19.021320011ATVPDKIKX0DERhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/help/seller/home.html?seller=ATVPDKIKX0DERNewnewEyGDefREQKqsb23OpNKbilN0zUvBcPo%2FLVuqlL0wwtay%2BrUAgKFkd9DYbOTpilb0fhnyBlPG9PJRqItivp%2FUEQ%3D%3D1967USD$19.67Usually ships in 24 hours5.021519310183835112008-08-22A future classicThis is one of the most helpful modern spiritual books that I have ever read. Through the words of some of the greatest Christian spiritual writers of all time Martin presents a clear roadmap for all those who seriously desire to grow in holiness. In giving the reader enough background on the lives of these saints, beautifully selected and organized quotes, and personal reflection, one sees the remarkable consistency in the spiritual journey. The lessons are as relevant today as they were centuries ago. Those who have already read (or attempted to read) any or all of the spiritual classics that Martin quotes extensively will ubdoubtedly find new inspiration and clarity through this book. Those who have not been previously exposed to these spiritual treasures have a special treat waiting for them- Birth and/or growth of a true desire to aim for the summit rather than being content with anything less. In this future classic, true to its title, one finds both the what and how of "The fulfillment of all desire". 19310183835222008-07-31Want to become a saint? What better way to become a saint than to study what the saints and doctors of the church have said?

Martin does a wonderful job of bringing together writings from all different periods of the church and blending them into a coherent and interesting story. There is advice from Teresa of Avila, John of the the Cross, Catherine of Siena, Bernard of Clairvaux, Francis De Sales, and the Little Flower, among others.

In easy to understand bites, Martin gives to his readers an alternate reality to the concerns of this world. It is realizing and putting into perspective that this life is only for God.

For someone who achieves great union, "the fire of contemplation burns so strong that there is no desire to ever leave the time of prayer" (p 389". This book will help lead you to that state.
19310183835222008-04-07Fullfillment of All DesireA well written review and composite of 7 Doctors of the Church with their spiritual journey advice.19310183835222008-03-29Prayer seen through the eyes of the saintsRalph Martin shows the reader the path to a rich prayer life through the eyes of the saints and modern day saints to be. Having read about the lives of some of the saints mentioned, Martin does a good job of choosing the key parts of their lives and experiences that create the best picture of a deepening relationship with God. There is much here for consideration and contemplation for those who seek to move closer to the Lord.19310183835332008-03-18Thoughtful, Spiritual, but ConciseMartin brings together scripture and the writings of the major doctors of the church in a guidebook for the soul. I highly recommended this book whether you are new to or veteran reader of books on Catholic spirituality. Life changing - your relationship with God can not help but to evolve as you read this book. Thank you Mr. Martin for this beautifully written book, 15 years in the making by his own admission. Drawing upon the teaching of seven “Spiritual Doctors” of the Church, Ralph Martin presents an in-depth study of the journey to God. This book provides encouragement and direction for the pilgrim who desires to know, love, and serve our Lord.0385523416Jesus of Nazareth0867168013Hungry for God: Practical Help in Personal Prayer0385509359Reasons to Believe: How to Understand, Explain, and Defend the Catholic Faith0385520379Mother Teresa: Come Be My Light - The Private Writings of the Saint of Calcutta1592764053The Apostles12297Inspirational12292Catholicism12290Christianity22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books12335Discipleship12333Christian Living12290Christianity22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books12813General12809Spirituality22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books491438Christianity468234Religious Studies468206Humanities465600New & Used Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books712994011General AAS468234Religious Studies468206Humanities465600New & Used Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books712982011General AAS465600New & Used Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books713014011General AAS319654011Qualifying Textbooks251254011Custom Stores44258011Specialty Stores283155Books394181011Hardcover394174011Binding (binding)388186011Refinements283155Books618083011Printed Books618072011Format (feature_browse-bin)388186011Refinements283155BooksR2LPKSMLR1VVZRGuide my Catholic Soul1585360325http://www.amazon.com/One-Dream-NFL-Woody-Falgoux/dp/1585360325%3FSubscriptionId%3D05ERXYTS89KFGEPQR5G2%26tag%3Dthebookrevi0b-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D1585360325759989http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/4130F3J43PL._SL75_.jpg7550http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/4130F3J43PL._SL160_.jpg160107http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/4130F3J43PL.jpg475317Woody FalgouxHardcover796.3320929781585360321701585360325EnglishEnglishEnglish9102495USD$24.95Stockard James1216Book2001-07-01Stockard JamesStockard JamesOne Dream: The NFL456101076USD$10.76406USD$4.068150011ATVPDKIKX0DERhttp://www.amazon.com/gp/help/seller/home.html?seller=ATVPDKIKX0DERNewnew2SZuHH0OgOrFovfeFbRLsIpT1csFUkLRFfKLCtEKlbbsfCuuIXjqAX0IMAHV%2BCDMCt8G2dbYWBUxgW%2FUjIBRCw%3D%3D2495USD$24.95Usually ships in 24 hours5.021515853603255002004-08-15The Rocky of the NFLThis book is like an NFL Rocky type story. Except there are 10 different Rocky's that are the focus of this book in the form of football players. Not to say that it is a ripoff in anyway. It's a book that truly stands on it's own. The author seems to be very talented. His first? Are you kidding me? Sometimes I laughed and sometimes I felt sad for them. Especially knowing that all this really happened to real people makes the impact even stronger. Don't let it's setting of it being preseason football make you think it's boring. It's a book of hope, determination, preserverance, and the cold reality of life that we all have to face. This book was so good it's compelled me to write my first review for Amazon. Congratulations Woody F. and I'm looking for your next book! 15853603255112002-01-03What every NFL fan wants to knowThis book is precisely what every NFL fan wants to know about what it takes to make a professional football team's roster. Woody does an excellent job at grabing your attention within the very first pages and holding it to the very end. If you are a fan of the NFL, this is a must read and Woody will have you turning each page anxiously awaiting the fates of the players struggling to make the Saints team. This book is masterfully written and you will find yourself rooting for the underdogs. Woody is a gifted story teller and makes you feel like you are sitting along side him at the Saints training camp. At times, I was rooting for Woody himself as he describes the difficulties the media encounters from the Saints organization during training camp. I highly recommend this book and only hope Woody has his second book in the works.15853603255122001-12-30Feel the rushAn amazing read! The author puts you into the mind, body
and soul of the players. It is more than a book about football, it is about having hope and chasing a dream. Even
when you know you wont win. Read it and pass it on,
quickly.15853603254222001-12-17The Hard Road to the NFLWoody had a great premise for a book, let's follow undrafted rookie free agents through training camp showing the emotional highs and lows of who makes the team. Since his favorite team is the New Orleans Saints, the story starts in a small humidity oppressed Louisiana town that is the sight of training camp. Woody does a great job getting to know the players and attempting to know management and how decisions are made. It's clear very early that the NFL and the Saints don't know what to make of this book and seem to have some concern that it will be a hatchet job.
But Woody writes like a true Saints fan who wants to know the players and what it's like to try to make a team. The deck is really stacked against these guys as they must beat out returning players and drafted rookies. Woody gives great examples of the many undrafted free agents who went on to become quality NFL players. But this year's group doesn't appear to have an immediate star and some of the players start dropping immediately. Some of the rookies have great practices followed by weak practices. Some have minor injuries that limit their already limited playing time. And some are trying to fill positions where there are no real spots.
It makes for an interesting read from the early cuts to the few that make it right to the final cut. Woody does a good job of showing the fears, insecurities and sacrifices these players make trying to fulfill their dream. Read this book if you are a fan of football.15853603255002001-11-25The Perfect Gift for Football FansI bought several copies of Falgoux's book for the football fans in my family and they were a huge hit. By our next family gathering, One Dream was the one and ONLY topic ofconversation. This book is extremely well-written, informative and impressive in it's ability to show the human side of what has become a mega-industry in the US.This is the dream that is born in the hearts and minds of every boy that throws his first pass or scores his first touchdown. The New Orleans Saints have asked the dreamers to show them how deeply they love this game by competing against millionaire leviathans with every ounce of will they can muster. If they leave everything they have on the field, the dream might continue. If not, the dream will be gone.In One Dream: The NFL, Woody Falgoux follows 10 unsigned rookies through New Orleans Saints training camp as they battle heavy odds to make the team. For those who were not drafted, practicing with the pros in the sweltering Louisiana heat provides an opportunity to show you can hit, run, or do whatever else needed to stand out. Everyone knows a number of players will be axed throughout the grueling process (only 8 percent of unsigned rookies get contracts), so every drill and scrimmage matters, and each precious down played in a preseason game offers a fresh chance to be noticed by the staff. Some get plenty of chances; others seem outcast from the beginning.
Falgoux has a gift for storytelling, and the book unfolds with style and grace. In describing the frustration of one of the collegiate-stars-but-unsigned- nobodies at a scrimmage shortly before the first preseason game, he writes:

He's a young man staring at Goliath, a man who's a little frustrated because he can't really whack people out here, even though he's just whacked [a running back]. He knows tomorrow he'll have the chance to whack 'em all. Finally, he'll really do, whether one calls it violence or vindication or victory, what he does best.

The coaching staff must make its choices, whether random, planned, fair, or bizarre. One Dream offers a memorable look at a pro team's camp and the perspiration and aspirations of 10 young players trying to make the choices easier. Since then, I have read it almost 9 times (as of this review). Moreover, I have read a heck of a lot of material critical of the text itself (e.g. The Tanners, Evans, Vogel, Metcalfe) Notwithstanding, most, if not all, the attacks are usually based on fraud and/or popular though errant assumptions about the Book of Mormon text that actually do not jive with the text itself. In additoin, what Hardy has done with the 1920 text is make it more accessible to those approaching the Book of Mormon, following modern editions of the Bible, by indenting, for example, prose, not too dissimilar to the NRSV rendition of Deuteronomy 32, and leaving introductions to chapters to a bare minimum, alongside adding a number of appendixes, such as one on poetry in the Book of Mormon (e.g, chiasmus).

I urge any one interested in the truth to read the Book of Mormon to discover for themselves that it is indeed another testament of Jesus Christ, and to learn of its truthfulness by study and by prayer to God, after "testing all things" (Acts 17:11).025207341X57112006-09-02No need to diet! This edition of The Book of Mormon is absolutely delicious. The Son is his Father's definitive Word; so there will be no further Revelation after him.
025207341X520222005-12-14Best Edition on the Market!!Wonderful Wonderful Edition!! I agree with the former missionary. This is a very user freindly edition of the BoM. The offical LDS Church Edition is very imposing and stark compared to this very inviting and easy on the eyes BoM format. Hand this edition to potential converts and they just might read the BoM. Why it took a secular university to put another Churche's Main Religious Text in a truly inspired format is beyond me. Maybe it is time the LDS Church puts out a new version of the "Standard Works". After all....it has been quite a while since 1978 when they redid all of the scriptures.Regarded as sacred scripture by millions, the Book of Mormon -- first published in 1830 -- is one of the most significant documents in American religious history. This new reader-friendly version reformats the complete, unchanged 1920 text in the manner of modern translations of the Bible, with paragraphs, quotations marks, poetic forms, topical headings, multichapter headings, indention of quoted documents, italicized reworkings of biblical prophecies, and minimized verse numbers. It also features a hypothetical map based on internal references, an essay on Book of Mormon poetry, a full glossary of names, genealogical charts, a basic bibliography of Mormon and non-Mormon scholarship, a chronology of the translation, eyewitness accounts of the gold plates, and information regarding the lost 116 pages and significant changes in the text.
The Book of Mormon claims to be the product of three historical interactions: the writings of the original ancient American authors, the editing of the fourth-century prophet Mormon, and the translation of Joseph Smith. The editorial aids and footnotes in this edition integrate all three perspectives and provide readers with a clear guide through this complicated text. New readers will find the story accessible and intelligible; Mormons will gain fresh insights from familiar verses seen in a broader narrative context. This is the first time the Book of Mormon has been published with quotation marks, select variant readings, and the testimonies of women involved in the translation process. It is also the first return to a paragraphed format since versification was added in 1879.1400077532Joseph Smith: Rough Stone Rolling0764571958Mormonism For Dummies0195168887By the Hand of Mormon: The American Scripture that Launched a New World Religion1555174019A Plain English Reference to the Book of Mormon1589581024On the Road With Joseph Smith: An Author's Diary12432Book of Mormon12430Mormonism12290Christianity22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books12436General12430Mormonism12290Christianity22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books12504General22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books16233641General12056Bible & Other Sacred Texts22Religion & Spirituality1000Subjects283155Books400272011Paperback394184011Mass Market401237011Trade394174011Binding (binding)388186011Refinements283155Books618083011Printed Books618072011Format (feature_browse-bin)388186011Refinements283155BooksR183CRTGKTU9VUBooks on MormonismR2Q0XZUI7816QJWho's VanesSaR2DLS9JXZ05NUTRespect..9500400480http://www.amazon.com/El-principito-Antoine-Saint-Exupery/dp/9500400480%3FSubscriptionId%3D05ERXYTS89KFGEPQR5G2%26tag%3Dthebookrevi0b-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D95004004801699232Antoine de Saint-ExuperyPaperback8099789500400480309500400480SpanishSpanish8621095USD$10.95Emece Editores193Book1998Emece EditoresEmece EditoresEl principito376241291USD$12.91433USD$4.337900005.020495004004805112008-06-16FacinanteCreo que uno de los libros mas lindos que he leido. This book iis basically about a little blond boy that meets an adult with who he will become friend, somewhere in the world, dunno where. He discovers, during a trip, adults, who will allow him to understand adults world and life on hearth In the begining of the story, the pilot crashes in a desert and thers were the story begings. This story has many characters, but the two main ones are the pilot (the narrator), and the little prince. One of the main settings are the dessert were the pilot meets the little prince, and the planet were the little prince lives, but this story has many settings.

I read this book because my mother told me that every kid must read this book, so she gave me the book and i read it when i was almost 12 years old. This book has influenced my life in many ways. Every time i read this book it makes me think, about pepole and friendship, it makes me cry, laugh, and be a better person and a better friend. It also makes me be more pacient, and this is a thing that im not so good at, but every time im in a cituation were i have to be pacient, since i read that book, I have teach myself to try to understand people, and why they are like that. This book is in a prose/chatter way written, in this way it was easier for me to understand the meaning of the words. This book you have to read it more than once to get the meaning of the words.

By Avira Arreola.
In 2000 Harcourt proudly reissued Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's masterpiece, The Little Prince, in a sparkling new format.
