About 15 years ago, as a 9 year old, I read the three books that make up this Dictionary of Science (the Biology, Physics and Chemistry ones). I was completely captivated by them, and read them over and over again. The science is pitched at exactly the right level for children: the colourful illustrations and short sections retain a child's attention. I went on to take biology, physics and chemistry A-levels at age 17, and went on to study Medicine at Cambridge University in England. Obviously there was more to this achievement than the Usborne books I read as a child, but I honestly do attribute much of my initial interest to them.
An excellent science source

I have found some factual errors in this book, but overall it is a thorough science book for physics, chemistry, and biology. This book is an unabridged compilation of the three books in the illustrated dictionary series--Illustrated Dictionary of Physics, Illustrated Dictionary of Chemistry, and Illustrated Dictionary of Biology. Even if you are only interested in one of these topics, you still need to be aware of British versions being sold by sellers at Amazon. Unfortunately, they list them as the American version, but they're not. After a few pages of reading the British spelling for words like 'oestrogen', 'foetus', etc., you will be completely frustrated. This is the American edition of all three and a bargain too. We homeschool and use this as one of many science books. For anyone studying Biology, I would also highly recommend the National Geographic movie "In the Womb" which shows a baby developing through all 40 weeks.

My parents bought me this book in hardcover about ten years ago, and it has been indispensible. It covers a broad enough base of information so well, and with enough depth, that it has been a constant and indispensible reference for me through GCSE science in the UK, high school chemistry in the US, and even sometimes during my undergrad chemistry and physics. The illustrations are wonderful, and the explainations lucid. I would definitely recommend this for anyone with a child in school, or anyone who wants to look at a bit of basic science.

Roger Dean is best known for his groundbreaking work in LP cover art, including Yes, Uriah Heep, Osibisa, and other names from the 1970s music world. This great collection pulls together Dean's early work, including sketches, student work from his time at the Royal College of Art, and set design for the Yes tour stages.
I usually think of Dean as a visual artist, so his furniture, sets, and architectural interests were a pleasant surprise. It would have been helpful to have better identification of year in which each piece done. That's a small enough complaint, though. This is an outstanding collection of his work, and an interesting reference point for comparing the 70s culture to todya's.

The architypal album cover artist of the early seventies period, Roger Dean produced covers for seventies album artists such as Yes, Gentle Giant, Greenslade and even Osibisa. This, his first of a number of publications, contains his early and best work.
For fans of the progressive rock group "Yes" it also contains a number of photographs from their ambitious "Tales from Topographic Oceans " tour.
This book should be reprinted NOW and is a must for all ardent "Yes " fans.

Roger Dean's artwork has been featured on the record and CD coversof Yes, Aisa, and Pink Floyd. He has displayed his artistic talent since Yes' "Fragile" LP in 1972. His work belongs in a museum display (I did see a print of the Fragile cover in the Hayden Planetarium) and this book (if you're lucky enough to get your hands on it) is recommended to avid Yes fans! It features the covers of "Topographic Oceans", "Beginnings", "Relayer", "Yessongs", and the inner gatefold of "Close to the Edge". Simply breathtaking! And in need of a reprint soon!

Groundbreaking when it was first published, this unique book has remained a benchmark in both art and publishing. Dean founded his own Paper Tiger imprint to release this collection of his designs. The book is sized the same as an old vinyl album, and contains dozens of his architectural/fantasy world renderings, know best as the covers of the majority of the YES albums, along with many other rock projects. Essential for the fans of Dean, it covers his schooling, 2D and 3D design projects, and an amazing array of full color, high quality reproductions of his ink and watercolor paintings.

I didn't think it was possible for Mike and Roger to give us more information than what I found in the first two books, but this FAQ book is so complete. These authors share more information with the simplest answers, explanations and formulas than any other resource I know. This book can teach any investor to be so confident and knowlegable in operating their business. It will also teach them how to manage their time as an investor and be motivated and powerful in their negotiations. I am recommending this book to everyone.

An Anthology That Reads Like a Novel

I've never been much for anthologies as a rule. I like to wade into a book and submerge myself in the story for hours. That said; I really enjoyed the stories that make up Welcome to Redemption. I liked how the eight characters intertwined in each other's lives even when they weren't the main focus of that particular story. So, even though Welcome to Redemption is an anthology it doesn't feel like one. It reads like a novel with well rounded characters and multiple plot lines. For two authors to blend four stories into one seamless book is remarkable. I've heard authors Stacey Joy Netzel and Donna Marie Rogers are working on a sequel, and I'm looking forward to reading it.

I absolutely loved this heartwarming book! Four beautiful romances set in a town drawn so realistically, I feel like I could move there. The characters are you, me and people we've known our entire lives. Watching them fall in love is like watching yourself and your best friend and everyone you care about during the most trying, memorable and defining moments of their lives. You won't want to miss a second of it.
There'll be copies of this book under the Christmas tree next year for several of my friends and family members.

This marvelous book was a compilation of four couples who meet and fell in love; what they all had in common (in addition to being kin to each other, in some cases) was that either one or both of them lived in Redemption, Wisconsin. Redemption was a small town which was typical of all the small towns across the U.S. Ms. Rogers and Ms. Netzel each wrote two stories; they intertwined together flawlessly. The first two stories intersected at the town fair.
"A Fair of the Heart" told the story of a single mom, Lauren, with a troubled 10-year-old, Max, and a loveable 2-year-old, Emma; she met handyman Caleb when he came to her in-home beauty shop and noticed that her house was, literally, falling down around her. Sparks flew, but most of them were Max's!
"A Fair to Remember" introduced us to Tara and Wes; her parents and brother were very over-protective and he sported a gang tattoo which scared them to death. Of course, they would never have met had it now been for her brother's dog, a Great Dane named Sugar!
"The Perfect Blend" pitted an "out of funds" coffee shop owner, Carrie, with a multi-millionaire incognito, Matt. He offered to buy into her coffee shop and started renovations and changes without her permission. Of course sparks were going to fly!
Finally, in "Grounds for Change," Charlie (Tara's brother) and his infamous dog, Sugar, met Dana (outside the coffee shop) while she was on her way to an interview with the local vet; she was a doggie shrink! Sugar managed to help Charlie spill not one, but two, lattes all over her clothes!
These characters and stories are marvelous; the two authors worked together impeccably. The people interacted so well, and the stories went together so well, it was if one person did all the writing. All eight of the main characters were so great that I had to fall in love with them and envision them all functioning together in the same town forever.
I loved the book and highly recommend it!

Welcome to Redemption is an anthology of four interwoven, heart grabbing, love at first sight stories written by Donna Marie Rogers and Stacey Joy Netzel. The book opens with Ms. Rogers utterly enchanting A Fair of the Heart followed by Ms. Netzel's totally charming A Fair to Remember, then continues with Ms. Roger's witty battle of opposites in The Perfect Blend and ends with Ms. Netzel's heart warming Grounds for Change.
A FAIR OF THE HEART by Donna Marie Rogers
From the moment Caleb Hunter hands Lauren Frazier the doorknob to the front door of her house and beauty shop, I was in love with this couple. In spite of being a divorced mother of an angry pre-teen son and trying to hold together a crumbling house, Lauren faces life with witty-tongued optimism. Her sense of humor is a perfect match to Caleb's.
Immediately charmed by the short-on-funds Lauren and her adorable toddler daughter, the at-loose-ends handyman Caleb offers to fix her doorknob among other things in exchange for a home cooked meal. Enter Lauren's angry son and she figures Mr. Perfect Handyman will be gone in a heartbeat. But Caleb understands the boy better than anyone realizes. It seems Caleb had returned to Redemption for his mother's funeral and too late to ask her forgiveness for his past digressions.
Behind the witty dialogue and crackling attraction, a real family works out real problems. The very talented Donna Marie Rogers not only gives the reader an endearing romance in this compact format in A Fair of the Heart, but a heartfelt story worthy of healing wounded souls.
A FAIR TO REMEMBER by Stacey Joy Netzel
Tara Russell doesn't believe in love at first sight, but the Great Dane puppy dragging her through the fair crowd toward the hunky guy in a suit was wearing on her strength and her will. Wes Carter didn't know what hit him. One minute he's standing eating a hamburger and the next he's face down on the ground being puked on by a lactose intolerant Great Dane. Whether this constitutes a "cute" meet or not is best left to the reader. But our hero has a sense of humor about the dog...eventually and that's all the reader and Tara Russell needs to know.
Of course Tara, who lives only a few blocks from the fair, takes Wes home to clean up. Tara has already decided she wants to get to know Mr. Sexy with a sense of humor by the time Wes strips off his suit jacket and shirt. His athletic build just adds to his mystique, as does the bullet wound scar in his back and the dazzling tattoo on his shoulder. At least the tattoo should soften the blow with her biker family when she brings home a `suit' to meet them.
Wes' first impression of Tara is crazy beautiful. He wants to relocate his business in Redemption and find some quiet normalcy in his life. A biker chick isn't in the plan. He doesn't know Money-Manager Tara's tats are airbrushed on and her biker babe Daisy Dukes and skimpy tank top a costume. Still he can't resist her and ends up back at the fair watching fireworks with Tara.
Enter Tara's over-protective brother who recognizes Wes' tattoo as a gang tat. Now Wes is up against Tara's alpha brother and father. But he's no slouch in the alpha department, himself. Still, in the end, the only thing that matters is whether or not Tara believes in him. And if Tara doesn't want him, I'll take him...please.
Ms. Netzel's characters don't leap off the page and into your heart, they invite you into theirs. Tara doesn't react to Wes' mixed messages with the usual romance heroine's foot-stomping fits but real, adult straight talk. Wes responds to her with honesty. His alpha protectiveness, though feral quick, isn't controlling. Nor is he the usual angst-suffering hero as he figures out, whatever the outside package is telling him, it's the woman inside he loves. A Fair to Remember, though played out in a very short time period, is a love story that is completely and satisfyingly believable.
THE PERFECT BLEND by Donna Marie Rogers
Carrie Lowell is up to her eyebrows in mortgage payments all because she had to pay off her ex-husband to get him out of her life. Men were scum. Though, some were still yummy looking, like the librarian across the street from her shop, Matt Jacobs. The man gave glasses a whole new sexy appeal.
But he is full of business plans for her place and no man is ever going to get his hands on her Coffee to Chai For. Unfortunately, money flow problems force her to take on a partner and the only man up for the job is Matt Jacobs.
Promising her she can trust him, she hesitantly lets down her guard as they work together, very hesitantly. After all, he's gorgeous and she has unfashionable curves, not to mention a temper that scares away most men...but not Matt. Things are going so well, she even opens her heart to him a wee bit and then a bit more until she's confessing the horrible history of her former marriage.
Just when Carrie is ready to cast caution to the wind, Matt's sister arrives in a Ferrari, followed by the paparazzi, and Matt's mother and father in a stretch limo. Matt Jacobs true identity is about to be revealed. So much for honesty, and forgiveness is in the hands of the wounded by lies Carrie.
Once again, Ms. Rogers tantalizes the reader with witty dialogue and layered characters. The Perfect Blend is just that. A blend of two characters meant for each other.
GROUND FOR CHANGE by Stacey Joy Netzel
Opposites may attract, but not without a few shared likenesses. In Charlie Russell's and Dana McClain's cases that would be a fondness for coffee from Coffee to Chai For and a love of an unruly, nine month old Great Dane. Liking long morning jogs, fishing, and football...even if for rival teams proves helpful at pulling these two reluctant lovers together. Now if only psychologist turn animal behaviorist Dana will accept the job offer from the local vet and turn Charlie's life into happily ever after. Or as happy as he can be considering he's spent the last fourteen years secretly harboring the belief he's responsible for his sister's death. At least it's a secret until he bares his soul to Dana.
But Dana gave up psychoanalyzing people because she was too empathetic with her clients. She even had two relationships that ended when the men no longer needed her to fix them. She's not falling into that trap again, no matter how much Charlie turns her on.
Stacey Joy Netzel's writing shines in this wonderful story of redemption. She makes me want to know what Charlie Russell's kisses are like. My toes tingle at the mere thought. I'm also a sucker for any story that includes a dog as secondary character.
Stacey Joy Netzel's and Donna Marie Rogers' Welcome to Redemption has turned me into a fan of these two new writers. I can't wait to see what they come up with next.

And big ears, too! We really enjoy the Christian themes and music. Not like alot of other "Christian" music, which has a rock/rap type background. My 5-year old daughter, when we were listening to it for the first time, asked, "Are we obeying God?", when the song, "How can I glorify God" came on! They do understand and listen to the words!
Great way to teach your kids

This is a wonderful way to teach children the catechism. My three year old sings these songs all day long. My older girls are having a much easier time remembering God's attributes and specific wording for the catechism. They listen in the car and have them memorized before we get to town.

I heard this tape while driving with a friend and our kids in the back. I thought it was a wonderful way to present the catechism to kids by putting it in a song. A great way to start teaching your children about some of those hard to understand topics.

The adventures of Wishbone and Sissy are really neat. I think Wishbone is cool. I wish I had his strength and powers. Bogart is a bit of a nerd but he is hoot, his friend Simon could be a real tough guy if he wanted to. The story didn't let me get bored with it. It kept my interest wondering what would happen next. It leaves somethings to your imagination. There should be a part two just to answer some questions. This book was fictional but not too far fetched. I think my friends will like it as well.

I really enjoyed this book and believe most youth will if they pick it up. This book deserves an "A" in my opinion. It is full of various real life and fantasy adventures. It made me wonder, laugh, and somewhat sad in parts of its content. Wishbone and Sissy are really true hero's. Bogart and Simon life's are full of typical but exciting boy's stuff. I will reccomend the wishbone journal to my friends and family to read. Out of all of the characters everyone can find at least one to relate to in our life.

I really enjoyed the twist and adventures in the book. The characters were all very unique and interesting. With a story within a story it does not give you a chance to get bored with any of it. YOU! GOD'S BRAND NEW IDEA is a rich compilation of some of Max Lucado's most savory turns of phrases and lessons, drawing on 15 of his previously published titles.
The theme behind the idea is that each of us is made for specific purposes of God. Therefore, different sections of the book focus on different aspects. Topics include "Made By God," "Made to Be Unique," "Made for God's Purpose" and "Made for God's Glory." The result is a work that reminds us that God is behind and in all things. Most importantly, God is with us.
Some of the entries are only a few sentences long while others span a two-page spread. Lucado invites us to imagine the fullness of God's creativity and all the fun He had during creation. Then, he challenges us to reflect on the creative flair used to create man, a welcome reminder that we all bear His image like a stamp.
Another entry reminds us that God is the author of our life. As a result, our temperaments, character texture and personality were all specifically designed by God. He is the ultimate author, the bestselling creator of all, and He does not make mistakes.
A few of the entries carry a bit of humor. Lucado tells the story of Rick Burgess and Bill "Bubba" Bussey, the hosts of the popular "Rick and Bubba Show," a radio program based in Alabama. Animators once made a cartoon of Rick and Bubba, but Bubba couldn't make the producer happy, no matter how hard he tried. Exasperated, he finally cried out, "If I am me, how can I mess up?" Lucado uses this as a welcome reminder that "when it comes to being you, you were made for the part."
Overall, this book is a welcome encouragement that God has designed us specifically for His purposes and His glory. The very things that make us unique are pleasurable to God and can be used to bring glory to His kingdom. Throughout, Lucado reminds us that our gifts are meant to be used to make a big "to-do" out of God. We are to herald and honor Him with all we have.
The design of this work is classic and old-school in a good way. The yellow-hued gift book is filled with fun '50s-style fonts and pull-out quotes that make it fun for the reader. It even has a few interactive pages where readers can fill in the blanks, though it's unlikely anyone would want to mark up their books due to the clean design.
YOU! GOD'S BRAND NEW IDEA is recommended to fans of Max Lucado and those looking for a gift for a friend or family member who needs a little encouragement and a reminder not just of who they are but --- more importantly --- whose they are.

What makes this book unique from most other healthy diets? Like most of the others, it tells us to avoid meat, fat, sweets. In these general ways it agrees with everything the health experts are always telling us, except of course for Atkins, who is on a planet of his own.
The main difference here, for me, is that we are told to really fill up on the whole grains. It is supposed to be the number one ingredient for us.
What is a whole grain anyway? No, it is not the whole wheat bread in your grocery store. In fact, when you go to the local health food store and look for whole grain bread, you had better ask the store employees for help, because breads aren't necessarily labeled whole grain. Some are, some aren't. If it has white flour, it is not whole grain.
I found a bread based on brown rice, and to my surprise it was really tasty, when toasted. It was frozen in the health food refrigerator. It is hard, substantial, and good.
I was surprised to see that corn is mentioned in the whole grains section of this book. Shows what I know, right? So buy that corn on the cob.
Brown rice and whole grain pasta are also in the category. Get the book to see what other whole grains you should be making the number one ingredient of your daily diet, according to this book.
The book then discusses beans. Basically, get every kind of bean. Vegetables are good too.
One thing that this book tells you to avoid is Nightshade vegetables. That includes potatoes, tomatoes and eggplant.
The book advises you to have an occasional piece of fish if you want, but to choose the lean fish like sole, flounder, scallops, and to avoid the fatty fish like tuna (oh my god!).
It attacks milk in a big way, blaming milk for a lot of heart-related deaths. It also has charts correlating fat intake to prostate and breast cancer.
I'm prepared to change my eating habits based on this book, to incorporate more whole grains and beans. I eat pretty healthy already, but I have a problem or two I need to deal with.
I don't know if the author's claims that nightshade vegetables are bad for you, that it is not a good idea to drink a lot of water, and that Vitamin C is much less important than we think, are correct or not. Sometimes he really goes "against the grain".
If the author reads this, I have a special message for him. You need someone like me to edit your book. There are a lot of editing problems in it. I'm doing that already for another published author who didn't go with one of the big publishing houses. I can get rid of the mistakes in here. I'm not talking about mistakes in advice. I'm talking about use of the language(...)It helps your credibility to eliminate the errors.

I don't know how "secret" Dawson's ideas are, but as one of the very few top-level professionals on the speaking circuit, he delivers a lot of motivation to get you off your duff. He gives you plenty more than just stale ideas to think about. I personally use his time management system, because he was the first person to show me the real value of having one that actually works. Sharing several of the ideas in this book with the clients I coach has helped my clients reach specific goals much faster.
