In addition to great information on sight seeing, entertainment, and even outings with kids, there is also essential information on international schools, finding a doctor and other medical needs, introductions to neighborhoods where the typical expat lives, and more. Summary:

This book is mainly about how to switch on the employees and customers become inspired, passionate and alive, so that the organization could earn profits. Thus a question would be raised, how to create such a passion in an organization?

The answer would be regulating employees and customers by the leader in the organization. There are both the internal side and external side.

Internally, a leader should guide the values system, promote leadership in all levels, renew them regularly and care everyone in the organization. In an organization, a strong foundation should be built and a goal should be set. Also, it should simplify the structure of organization and make use of technology to measure and enhance the efficiency of process, so that the organization could run smoothly. The organization should also need to nurture their employees to build a winning team, the head and heart should be hired by the organization, thus the organization should provide resources for them to learn and compensate their contribution. Moreover, the organization should try to make everyone feel special, so that the workforce would able to work hard and loyal to the organization.

Externally, it¡¦s not easy for the organization to tackle with the customers as each customer has their unique emotion, needs and desired. Thus the organization should employ a new rules, present the choices for customer to choose, provide customerized service and develop personal relationship with them.

Comment:

I think this book is really great as it¡¦s easy to understand and I get many feelings after reading the book.

For the leader part, I agree that it¡¦s really a hard job to be a leader as the leader should be a person who is able to energize the team members, able to be divided the job equally according to their strength and wants. There is no ¡§perfect¡¨ person in the world, so a leader should contain both competent, able to deal with personal relationship that include dealing with the conflicts between the team members.

Also, a leader needs to energize the others. Just as Horst Schulze in Ritz-Carlton said, ¡§he said a leader is hardly to find someone to energize himself.¡¨ Thus a leader should energize by renew themselves.

In real life, I have tutorial with a 7 years-old girl and I¡¦m just like a leader whereas she is just like an employee. It¡¦s not easy to control her as she thinks that learning is a difficult and hard job for her. If she finishes two works today, she needs to work three in the other days. Thus, she would not like to finish the work and shows a very slow speed, lack of passionate attitude to me. It¡¦s really annoying to me as I do not know how to deal with her.

Thus, after watching this book, I learn something. I try to let her know that homework is her responsibility as a student. She plays happily in school with her friends and so she also needs to do her homework, happy and homework is together. No matter how difficult, she needs to finish all for everyday. Of course, it is not an easy to let her understand as she is just 7 years-old girl. So I use many examples to illustrate, e.g. I tell her what¡¦s the responsibility for me, her parents, etc. Also, her friends are able to do her homework without the others¡¦ help, so she is lucky that there is somebody helping or accompanying to do the homework. Moreover, I try to increase her interest to do the homework by giving her stickers. I design a table to make record. I hope that these all tools could help me to solve the problem.

Growing up, Uncle Wiggily's Friends was a favorite of my sisters and mine. The stories and illustrations are great. My three year old son loves these stories, especially Uncle Wiggily and the Snow Plow. The stories have great examples for teaching universal values. We have the 1955 edition with illustrations by the author, which I think are more appealing than the stories illustrated by others.

My first memories of reading!

Uncle Wiggily and his Friends by Howard R. Garis was one of the first books I remember reading (or having read to me). Uncle Wiggily Longears is a "rabbit gentleman." He has a kind heart, goes on interesting adventures and teaches children life lessons.

I have the 1955 edition, complete with a green cloth cover. I will never part with it, even though it has scribble marks in it. It is in fact the copy I had when I was about seven years old and has been to Africa and back.

My favorite story is "Uncle Wiggly and the Apple Dumpling." While I had never tasted one as a child, I sure wanted to! It looked delicious. It is no wonder I was intrigued when one of my mother's friends made such a dessert. Years later I wrote to her and requested the recipe. I also love the little poems at the end of each story.

If you are looking for a book with old-fashioned warmth, line drawings, full-page color pictures and animals that take on human personalities, this is a book you will treasure.

Uncle Wiggly stories were read to me as a pre-school and early grades bed-time routine. Anticipating the next adventure is a fond memory. The problem-solving and very proper bunny gentleman gives a life's lesson that there are clever and common sense approaches to problems that suddenly arise, and that there are continuous problems that surprise our lives. We are now reading these stories to our 4.5 year old (for the last year) and she brings me the books every night. I'm Professor of Biochemistry at LSU.

Collection of kind hearted stories with great art.

This is a wonderful book appropriate for all children. I have the 1986 printing indicating copyrights of 1939 and 1955 by The Platt & Munk Co., Inc. a division of Grosset & Dunlap (ISBN 0-448-40504-0). Many color and B & W drawings are presented in a detailed style common for the period. A typical page is half text and half art. There are simple rhymes accompanying each story. My children enjoy the stories which include tales about helping neighbors in a variety of needs, e.g. being snowbound,or cold. Uncle Wiggily and the Apple Dumpling is a favorite story of my family. The sled and canoe tales are also popular. There are 8 stories in all. The artwork is by George Carlson. This book ought to be reprinted. - Cedric Richeson

I really enjoyed this book and learned from it, but found it less compelling than "A Shining Affliction". Possibly I felt that Rogers was trying very hard to convince me of the validity of Lacanian theory. It felt a tad defensive - as though somehow she was warding off a critical audience in her use of Lacan to understand what some of her patients were going through. And yes, at times the word-play felt a bit excessive and the meaning forced.
However the reason I loved this book and Rogers' work is her ability to tolerate ambiguity and nuance, and find a way into relationship with patients who are desperately alone in their experience and their minds. I always learn from her, and so appreciate her willingness to share the struggle for understanding in the name of healing and connectedness.

I am not an expert in this field.
This book was an introduction to a deep way of thinking about humanity.
About Freud and psychoanalysis.
The book takes the reader through a process. The authors experience, clues, cases, clues, structure, clues. Trusting the reader, Ann Rogers takes the care to let our consciousness unfold. The material and stories of the girls and of her reactions is frightening. Horrifying. Her technique of not blaming the perpetrator nor leaving the victim in the sole role of victim was difficult but at the same time open doors to understanding the past, the behaviors and the future.
I can't recommend it more highly.

I'm a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. I'm just beginning to deal with it at the age of 17. An older friend of mine sent me this book in hopes it would help.
I didn't expect it to help so much.

I went through it with a highlighter, marking all the meaningful, important lines; each page is near fully yellowed.

I read this book in a week. I could not put it down.

Highly, highly recommended--not only for CSA survivors, but for psychologists, and anyone else interested in understanding.

With an emphasis on words and the associations we make with them, Rogers unveils how some children continue to re-experience and re-live past trauma. First, she describes her own childhood crises in a narrative that is both revealing and intimate. She describes her state in ways that allow one to experience it as she had, instead of something simply as foreign and "over with." Then, through example, we follow her as she tries to understand what the children's gestures and words are trying to "say" without their being able to verbalize it. However, she uses the children's own meanings of things (instead of simply standard symbolic meanings) to re-explain to them what has happened and how it continues to persist in their lives, unwittingly. This is what keeps it fresh and real. Moreover, throughout the book, there is an unstated underlying stream of empathy and relatedness. A great book.

It's probably not a coincidence that it is difficult to put into words what Annie has communicated in her book about the hidden language of trauma. Through her entrancing and lyrical use of language, she somehow magically illustrates how the invisible marks of trauma on the body repeatedly surface through the spoken--and more importantly non-spoken--language. In her work with traumatized children, Annie mirrors back traces of their unconscious she remarkably detects in both their words and silences, and ultimately helps the child to give voice to the haunting "unsayable."

Admittedly, I am still trying to process all that was said in this book. And as I do so, I take comfort in Annie's final words of the book when she said: "..if your body in pieces has begun to speak, and if you are now brimming with words and their sounds--and you're no longer sure of what you're hearing or saying...you are the one person I've written this for, the one to whom I entrust these words."

As an avid horror fan, I must say Vincent Price is the long-standing king of horror. When I think of horror movies, he immediately comes to mind. Finally, a book that specializes in the work of a true master who truly loved his work. Having recently purchased this, I look forward to mulling through its contents and watching the many films of "The Master of the Macabre." Long live Vincent Price!!!

True fans of Vincent Price don't really care whether or not we're watching something badly made like SCREAM AND SCREAM AGAIN or some auteur-approved masterpiece like TOMB OF LIGEIA. As long as Vincent Price is in it, hamming it up and acting all others right off the screen we are in hog heaven. It's a strange, fervid fraternity and way back when someone started calling us The Price Club and the name just stuck.

Denis Meikle has given us a book that clears up some of the myths surrounding Price's career, but he seems determined to create a new one, based somewhat on Victoria's great book. His thesis is that the McCarthy hearings and the "graylist" of which Price was the victim made him scared that he would never work again, so that afterwards, from the mid 1950s on, he consented to appear in any piece of schlock if the "price was right." Again and again he evinces this theory to explain, for example, why VP appeared as "Egghead" on TV's BATMAN. Price himself often stated that he wanted money to but more modern art with, but Meikle discounts this simple explanation.

I am the proud owner of a signed copy of Price's awesome book THE ART IN MY LIFE and I think that he indeed loved art and that he wasn't just "running scared" from the HUAC police.

But everyone deserves a forum for their views and Meikle makes a good case for his.

If you love Vincent Price you will love this great book

When I was a kid way, way back in the late sixties to the early
seventies I never failed to catch a great Price film on the late night Creature Features. This book is hard to put down.
Dennis Meikle does'nt white wash the Master of Menace, nor present him in any unfavorable light. All of Price's successes
and failings are told here in a very respectful manner. As a
matter of fact there were some parts of Price's life I did'nt want to know. This is the story of a great actor the likes of whom we will never ever see again. Well illustrated. A really
excellent book.

I just finished reading this excellent book on Vincent Price. It concentrates just on his work in the horror film genre which is primarly what he is remembered for. Denis Meikle follows Vincent's career chronologically film by film, giving details of the production as well as what was going on in Price's life at the time. While this is not an exhaustive work on this wonderful actor, it makes a great companion piece to his daughter's book "Vincent Price: A Daughter's Biography" which covers his personal life and Lucy Chase Williams' excellent "The Complete Films of Vincent Price" which covers all his film output. All together, these tell the story of one of the last true renaissance men. Recommended.

Vincent Price came into horror films by way of the studio system. His body of work is amazing, and he showed a fine sense of comedic timing in His Kind of Woman, with Robert Mitchum and Jane Russell, playing an OTT hammy actor. Later this tough for droll comedy would show in two gems - The Raven and The Comedy of Terrors. However, he really gathered attention in 1952 with House of Wax. After that wonderful performance, it was non stop fun all the way.

Many of his films were for William Castle or Roger Corman, and often considered Drive-In fodder - such as The Fly, The Bat, House on Haunted Hill. It was the series of Poe movies that firmly linked the word horror to Price - and I think it was a term he enjoyed completely. At the time the Corman-Price-Poe series of movies - The Pit and The Pendulum (with Scream Queen Barbara Steele), House of Usher, Tomb of Ligeia, Masque of the Red Death, Haunted Palace (which was really Lovecraft not Poe, but what the hey...) were often dismissed. But looking back, you will see finely crafted horror films that are still a pleasure to what now, with many of Price's wonderful performances.

Even later, he continued to seek out this same spotlight with the campy Theatre of Blood and the Dr. Phibes duo of films or the more serious Cry of the Banshee and Conqueror Worm (one of his most underrated performances).

He scared us with a gentle boo, mesmerising with that voice, thrilled us with the wondrous menacing laugh, enchanted us with his devilish twinkle in his eye...he entertained us cooking fish in his dishwasher on Johnny Carson.

His legacy lives and this is wonderful tribute to the master! Loaded with pictures, it is a must for Price fans.

In this excellent and very readable book, Dr. Corless (a professor of religion at Duke University) uses the life of the Buddha as a framework for introducing the major concepts of Buddhism to a general readership. He accurately and concisely covers the major ideas of South, Central ane East Asian Buddhism and shows a fine respect for all of them. Zen, Theravadin Buddhism, Chinese Pure Land and Tibetan Vajrayana are all well represented and put into perspective. Despite its broad scope, this is an easy to read and inspiring, as well as informative, book. The author has mastered the art of speaking to those of us who are neither scholars nor specialists. "The Vision of Buddhism" does not go over our heads, and Dr. Corless never talks down to us. I highly recommend it.

I bought this book after I met Prof. Corless in an United Religion Initiative conference. He's a very witty guy with a sharp observation. This book demonstrates these qualities.

This book is amazingly comprehensive yet easy to read. I was glued to the book right after I received it. Prof. Corless structures and explaines complex Buddhist ideas in an easy and fascinating way. Definitely one of the best introduction to Buddhism because, very early in the book, he points out common mistakes Westerners make when approaching Buddhism. Since most people are influenced by mainstream Christianity, they analyze Buddhism with the wrong methodology.

Along reading the book, you will pickup small funny stories from him. His personality shines through this book.

This book is indeed one of the best introductions to Buddhism one can possibly read. Corless applies his own experience with the religion, to all of the teachings he presents in the book. Keep in mind that a lot of what is included here is explanations of the Buddhist idealogy, not anything that you can really practice.

Use this book as more of a factor in deciding if Buddhism is the right religion for you. Corless even takes the time to write some excellent footnotes, so you could even consider this book for research.

I think the reason this book worked so well for me was the fact that it was presented in such a non-threatening way that it makes the book easy to absorb. Keep in mind that careful reading is important, as a lot of chapters reference previous chapters. This is not a determent to the quality of the book, rather it is important to the building block style of teaching Buddhism that the book represents.

Buy this book as a great introduction if you have even the slightest interest in the Buddhist vision. You won't be disappointed.

I found Rogers book to be humerous, sad, and inspiring. The book is about how he found love, lost love, the heartbreak he went through, then to find a way to mend his heart through God's love and the ability to love himself and finally, to find that person we all search for, our sole-mate.

This book celebrates life.

Waves of Passion observes life in every aspect of the human experience. It takes us on a journey that leads down many different roads. The journey begans in search of love and ends finding it--although, as Roger wrote. 'Love is like a poem left undone. It is never finished but continues to be edited for improvement.' Waves of Passion should be read once because it's a good book and then again and again simply because a joyfull journey should be taken more than once.

Janet Whitcomb, columnist for Orange County Register, Saddleback Valley News, June 22, 1999, writes: "the most steadfast ship benefits from a breeze now and then --- or even a brisk wind! In other words, form time to time we all need something which will nourish, stimulate, perhaps even challenge our perspective, not only regarding the relationship we have with our spouse or significant other, but also with our innermost self."

"Roger Mangrum has incredible energy, but what impresses me most is his forthright desire to share his innermost thoughts, with the goal of enhancing the lives of others. After all, not everyone is willing to make their life an open book ---- but Roger certainly has done this, and with style, grace, and humanity."

"Waves of Passion is a wake up call, encouraging us to get out of ourselves, and to do more than simply go through the motions. Worthwhile advice, and, because of its simplicity, powerful in its potential."

Though this is a relatively short work (128 pages), it is "full" from beginning to end. Never before have I read a publication in one sitting such as this one: scripture, poetry, self exploration, advice, heartache and wisdom all set up in a biographical type form centered around love and our need for it.

Roger Mangrum's works coupled with Rich Drennan's art makes for an outstanding adventure into your own heart as you journey these pages. So many have lost love, suffered from broken hearts or are in situations where their love lives could use some sort of remedy. If you fall into any of these categories, this would be just the right prescription in your quest to cure what ails you. Roger Mangrum sums it up best with his definitions of love, "Love is helping each other grow -- fully!" and, "Love is a poem left undone."

Our thoughts are our pens and our minds are our papers -- if we keep our pens moving in the ways which would benefit and inspire our minds, such as Roger has, our lives surely would become more fulfulling.

The way this story was developed was so refreshingly unique. As Lilah lies dying, a dual story is taking place. Flashbacks to a younger Lilah tells the story of her life. I couldn't put the book down. I eagerly look forward to more of Mrs. Wickersham's books.

You can stop looking for books on business law. This book it the definitive guide to business law. West's is synonymous with business law, and this text proves why.

Just a tremendous wealth of solid info. I only wish I had the most updated version, and not one a few years old. (I bought a used copy on Amazon to save some money.)

I recently purchased this book since it was directly related to my job (Purchasing). My friend went to a college that used this same book and it had looked interesting.

After I bought it from Amazon (lowest price, believe me), I was very satisfied. The author explains all topics in a clear manner and provides interesting case examples. This is one book that I will use as reference over and over. I can't imagine myself without it now. I also can't imagine a better business law book.

Very informative, but...

My wife and I purchased West's Business Law, 7th ed. through the University of the Pacific bookstore and were generally pleased with it. We have referred to it on numerous occasions to understand legal concepts at school, as well as in our private lives. However...The copy we received was defective. It was missing everything between appendix page 212 and glossary page G-11. I have e-mailed the publisher, but received no response. I will probably order ANOTHER copy of the book (this time through amazon.com) and hope that this copy isn't defective. Because of the difficulty in getting a response from the publisher, I recommend ordering through a reputable retailer like amazon.com (which focuses on customer service as a priority).

Terrific book

Great Little Book on Employment Negotiations
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2008-01-03
This is a great little book regarding negotiations about employment issues. Goodman incorporates the approach described in Getting to Yes: Negotiating Agreements Without Giving In, by Roger Fisher, William Ury, and Bruce Patton. In fact, Roger Fisher even wrote the Foreword to this book.

The book focuses on career negotiations using a principled negotiation strategy for win-win propositions rather than bluffing. Part one of the book is a basic overview of the negotiation process and skills that are essential for negotiating success. This part contains the first two chapters. Chapter on focuses on basics that include topics such as listening, communication, self-control, focus, and of course the four keys outlined in Getting to Yes:

1. Separate the people from the problem.
2. Focus on interests, not positions.
3. Invent options for mutual gain.
4. Insist on using objective criteria.

Chapter two is a good basic primer on getting ready to negotiation. Every negotiator knows that preparation is key, and Goodman lays a solid foundation regarding this important step.

Part two of the book looks at specific employment negotiation issues. Chapters topics include: the interview, salary, stock options, signing and performance bonuses, benefits, relocation, various nondisclosure agreements, severance packages, employment agreements, and annual reviews.

The final part of the book looks at the big picture and covers topics such as professionals' perspectives on negotiations and working in groups.

The appendix includes two model agreements that strongly favor the employer with instructions to put your knowledge to use by identifying the undesirable clauses within the agreements and then restructuring each clause to bring the agreement back into balance. There is a clause-by-clause analysis following each agreement.

Overall, this is a great little book that shows hot to get what you want from your employer and coworkers by negotiating in a collaborative way. This book can help anyone in varying aspects of their career development process. Negotiation is a part of life, and it is especially a part of the work world. This book provides advice and strategies that will not only help you build professional relationships and improve the ones you have, but also get ahead in all areas of your career.

I loved this book! I found it to be an incredibly useful resource for anyone involved in the employment negotiation process. I was particularly impressed with the format of Win-Win Career Negotiations. The book starts with a primer on the negotiation process that was instructive and fascinating. Win-Win then walks you through the nuances of negotiating an employment agreement. The final section includes perspectives from real-world negotiators.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone.

Effective Negotiations

There are many books out there on negotiating that are quite good and useful on the general topic of effective negotiation, but "Win-Win Negotiations: Proven Strategies for Getting What You Want from Your Employer" is unique in its focus on career negotiation. This is useful for those that need to focus their skills on this area without being distracted by other unrelated issues. This enabled the author to go into detail on this important subject area on negotiating employment by covering such issues as stock options, benefits, relocations, salary reviews, termination of employment, etc.

The author illustrates his arguments, proposals and solutions with practical examples which make the book very useful to the reader. His writing style is easy to follow and understand so that any reader with a basic understanding of English can easily follow.

Among the aspects that I liked about the book include the author's detailed analysis and discussion of a sample employment agreement. He also provides advice on effective negotiation through active listening, communicating effectively and the need for emotional stability.

Based on expert knowledge on the subject and true business wisdom, the author produced an excellent book for anyone who wants or needs to undertake employment negotiations like a proven winner.

Peter Goodman's Win Win Career Negotiations: All You Need To Know About Negotiating Your Employment Agreement is a dynamic and extremely practical guide to understanding and applying useful negotiation tactics when seeking employment regardless of the size or nature of the business or corporation being approached. I was happily surprised by this book. Often I will pick up a book and browse through it in the Business Books section of a store, and chuckle at how simple and useless the advice can be. However, Goodman has some very useful examples and tips. Of course, a lot of it is common sense, but for many people, this book will really get the juices flowing. In fact, a lot of books focus on getting a job, but Goodman has selected a very good segment to focus on: once you get a job, how do you negotiate the best possible compensation? The author gets a great concept across: that everything should be part of the negotiation, and think creatively in doing so. This book will help me when I re-negotiate my present contract, no doubt about it. I also found the case studies with real (and notable people) very effective edification of the principles he espouses.
