I have tried for quite sometime now to find a source of Pilates instruction which would make me understand the fundamentals.I tried many sources such as Gaiam-Ana Caban's DVDs (they are the worst..please don't buy them), Winsor Pilates and Pilates for dummies. I started with Ana Caban's Beginner's mat work out and was totally lost.Pilates for dummies DVD comes second and is a pretty decent place to start.However,I feel Mr.Herdman's instructions are clear and teaches you the fundamentals you need to know before you can even think of doing the mat sessions. I think the philosophy of educating the Pilates enthusiast employed by Alan Herdman is wonderful. He makes sure you get the breathing technique and understand how to engage your abdominals before you can proceed to any of the routine exercises. This makes a huge difference.
If you are looking for a quick 20 minute session ...this book is not for you. You need to spend a day or two to read understand and about a week to get into the groove with this book. But in my opinion this book combined with the Pilates for dummies DVD is a good place to start to understand the fundamentals.
I totally agree with the previous reviewer too, I bought it for my mother-in-law who suffers from back problems. I myself used a few exercises when I had a neck problem and it really helped me. But I would like to add that this is definitely a great book for beginners. Great Job and thanks a lot Mr.Alan Herdman.

The author has simplified and easily explained Pilates excercises that an individual with physical limitations, either from chronic pain conditions or physical disabilities, can perform. I took this book to my physician and chiropractor and discussed which exercises I could safely practice without further injury or exacerbation of my physical condition. Both were amazed and so excited about the content that they purchased this book for their practices. I am now able to increase core strength using basic and modified Pilates with physicians' blessings and guidance. This text is an "all-star" work for those not able to practice Pilates which many times is somewhat vigorous and difficult for persons with physical limitations. I highly recommend exploring this text with your physician prior to attempting the exercises. In this manner the book can only improve your core strength and allow improvement of your physical, mental, and emotional condition(s). For a better quality of life, give this book serious consideration. Thank you Alan Herdman!!!

I was unsure about satelite radio, but this guide helped me make my decision and switch to satelite radio with ease. It answered all of my questions. I love it and truly recommend this guide for anyone who is skeptical out there.

I wish I'd had this book a few months ago when I was researching satellite radio equipment, but it's just as useful for troubleshooting and station quick-reference. I just bought another copy for a friend to go along with the satellite radio kit I'm giving him for his birthday. 5 stars!

This is an oustanding collection of poetry. With so many different poets and different styles one is able to garner the true beauty of the Internet, as the collaborative medium for great poets. The Internet opens a new path for these great poets to share and understand one another across global boundaries.

Truly a masterpiece of modern day poetry that captures the true spirit of communication.

Hats off to these great poets and publisher.

I don't like to give 5 stars because I feel people don't believe in them, but I really like this book.

I like my poetry to rhyme, and most of this is free verse, so I have to root around to feel comfortable. But there is enough rhyme for a Luddite like me to be happy, and from what I see of the free verse it is mostly clear and evocative.

What makes this stand out is the "brief" history of the Internet. It is at once the most thorough and most easily read I have ever seen. It covers from Franklin experimenting with electricity to 100 million people being on-line--I very much wish I had had this resource when I was in college.

How great--a book you can enjoy for leisure or use for research.

This book is a great book. You could make your own Pokemon Trading Cards and Trading Card Game. You could sell them and alot of people make money over little peice of paper !! This could be a beginning of our business, mine and yours. I know you will have great sucess. I hope I could make about $9999999 !!!!! This book lets you make TWENTY different kinds of Pokemon cards. It gives you all kinds of facts about Pokemon, the Elite Four and all of that. I like this the best of their books.

The Polynesian Dance Directory by Karen Marks is full of helpful information, especially if you want to learn Polynesian dancing and have entertainers at your functions. I attended one of her Dance Workshops for the weekend and it was GREAT!!

I'm glad I bought the Polynesian Dance Directory. I didn't realize that so many people are into the dances of the South Pacific. I was able to find some dancers to perform for my friend's wedding anniversary. I also decided to take lessons and now I'm hooked!! I attended the author's (Karen Marks) Polynesian Dance Workshop for the weekend and it was wonderful. Karen has some of the best instructors teaching at her seminars. Karen is an excellent instructor/dancer too.

This is a great summary reference for private secondary schools. I especially liked the fact that it also listed the schools that provided learning disability assistance seperately.

This book gives you all the important information that you need. It lists tuition, SAT averages, AP course information, how many applicants,how many accepted and how many enrolled, how many girls and boys, sports and extra curricular activities offered, student-teacher ratios, number of faculty and how many have advanced degrees, examples of what colleges their students attend after graduation, and contact information. It makes it easy to compare schools. However, it does not give any information on what percentage of admissions are legacies, siblings, students given preferential status for being children of faculty, board members, etc. That would certainly be very interesting!

More than an introduction to many little-known but estimable wines, this passionate guide dwells on the fascinating people behind every bottle. Especially good on the lesser known regions, like Languedoc Roussillon. An absolutely wonderful way to plunge into France. We've given it a starring role among the guidebooks we leave for people who rent our house there.

if you want to travel in the french vineyards and buy the most originals wines : get this book !

This is the most information anyone could ever get in one glance. If anyone has found a guide as easy to read as this one, let me know.

It is now 1999 and my husband and I STILL use this dog-eared Allstate Campground Directory because of its thoroughness and ease of use. Instead of paragraph write ups on each campground, which is laborious to read while driving, this guide simply lists campgrounds and uses a checklist of accomodations. Directions are excellent. We're afraid to throw it away.

This wonderful resource on contemporary sailing vessels is published annually by ASTA, the American Sail Training Association. You can also get a copy free if you join ASTA (a worthy organization, if you are interested in sail training or traditional sailing ships). ...

The ASTA directory provides a comprehensive listing of traditional sailing ships in the US and abroad. Many of the ships listed offer sail training programs; others carry passengers for hire. It is a valuable resource for anyone interested in going to sea as a sail training student, or looking for work in traditional sail.

This is an excellent book. Everyone who is interested in sail training or tall ships should own a copy. It helped me find my way around and I am very gratefull to the author for spending the time to put together such a complete and comprehensive listing of sail training vessels. The contact information for the vessels is really what sets this book apart, because it really wouldn't be very helpfull if I read about a sail training ship that I wanted more information on, and then couldn't get in touch with them.

This internet guide is really wonderful. Not only does it list the names of the websites and their URLs, but it also provides some wickedly funny descriptions of some of the sites. It's humorous without being unkind, informative without being boring -- in a nutshell, it's fantastic. A must-own for any Sandra Bullock fan.
