Love Is Blindness; I Don't Want To See...Review Date: 2004-11-24
The photographs (both black and white and color) are excellent and truly capture the mood of this excellent album, as does the narrative and the selected quotations from the band members.
The guitar parts are well defined and easy to read, and are, to the best of my ability to discern, quite accurate. Particularly outstanding are the transcriptions of "One" and "Love Is Blindness," although I may be a bit biased, as those are also my two favorite tracks on the CD.
This book is great for any U2 fan, but is especially great for fans who are also musically inclined; to those in either group I recommend this book.
A great primer of the making of this ground breaking album.Review Date: 2001-09-04

The Ballad of John and MayReview Date: 2002-08-04
This is the story of Lennon's 18 month affair with Pang, a relationship she claims continued even after Lennon returned to his wife. On his "Lost Weekend," he traveled with her to L.A. to record music and party with other musicians like Harry Nilsson. It was a boozy, decadent period that saw Lennon ejected from a nightclub for interrupting a performance and generally hit the bottle in a manner in which he hadn't since he was a youth. Sadly it confirms something often glossed over in other Lennon biographies - That Lennon was a mean drunk. The man of peace could turn into a foul-mouthed, dangerous, nasty and violent drunk who needed to be tied up by his friends until he sobered up.
Pang writes of their relationship with affection and brutal honesty. Her pen chronicles, not only the facts but her emotions and reactions to the events as they unfolded. It's a lesser known fact that she was the Lennon's personal assistant in the early 1970s and she recounts stories about the making of the original "Imagine" film and Yoko's experimental films like "Fly." However, it's the Lost Weekend period that really makes this book a worthwhile purchase. Yoko can never write about this time because, for most part, she wasn't there. Pang was. She writes about: the "Rock and Roll" sessions with madcap record producer Phil Spector; Lennon's difficult relationship with first wife Cynthia and son Julian; the booze sessions with Harry Nilsson including the infamous incident at the Troubadour Club; the "Walls and Bridges" album and the comeback performance at Madison Square Garden with Elton John. While with Lennon, she also encountered other rock celebrities and tells of the times Lennon holidayed with Keith Moon and Ringo Starr, socialized with Mick and Bianca Jagger, played music again with Paul McCartney, got verbally berated by George Harrison, met David Bowie, recorded with Elton John, upset Paul Simon and annoyed the Smothers Brothers.
Pang also debunks some of the common stories we hear about John and Yoko and while she is forgiving of John, portrays Yoko as a manipulative, scheming dragon lady. An image, not unfamiliar to Beatle fans, and one which Ono has tried hard to erase.
For those fans seeking a personal view of Lennon, unauthorized by the Lennon estate, then this book is an excellent title that sits comfortably next to "A Twist of Lennon" by his first wife, Cynthia.

I'll Take The Book!Review Date: 2004-07-30
It has detailed information of the bands history... from their early days of jamming together to what they are now. It also outlines the unfortunate circumstances under which Bill Berry, the band drummer, left the band.
It is well illustrated, with plenty of odds and ends to keep all R.E.M. fans satisfied. At the end, it even has a table showing how their singles and albums faired on the UK and US charts!
It's a long read, but it's a blast all the way through. If you call yourself a fan of the best band in the world, you need to get this book!

A MasterpieceReview Date: 2004-05-13
Chapter I deals with the history and peoples of Africa, with special chapters on the Bushmen and Bantu-speaking people. Chapter II is a discussion of rock art and speculations on who the artists were, including the latest research.
Chapter III explores the styles, subject matter and the specific rock art sites, whilst Cheaper IV is devoted to dating. Chapter V deals with Southern Africa under heading for Zimbabwe, Namibia, the southwestern Cape, the Maluti and Drakensberg mountains, the inland plateau and the Tsodilo hills.
The following two chapters are devoted to Eastern and Northern Africa respectively, whilst Chapter VIII discusses the geometric designs and the style called Late White paintings. Chapter IX considers aspects of preservation and the future of Africa's rock art.
The book contains 400 full colour photographs and line drawings plus 7 maps. These photographs also include living people and animals. The maps depict Africa, the language groups, African peoples, the distribution of rock art on the continent, and the specific distribution in Southern, Eastern and Northern Africa respectively.
This classic work concludes with a glossary, bibliography and index. I would also like to recommend the books The Cave Of Altamira, edited by Antonio Beltran, and The Mind In The Cave by Lewis-Williams.

Age Determination of Young Rocks and Artifacts: Physical and Chemical Clocks in Quaternary Geology and ArchaeologyReview Date: 2007-12-16
I strongly recommend this book to all archaeologists and naturalists. It could be also a very educative piece of reading for students and non-specialists interested in the subject.
A Well Balanced Introduction to ArchaeometryReview Date: 2000-03-27
First, author provided brief but quintessential introduction into the very fundaments of physical and chemical properties which are relevant in those phenomenons which enable exegesis of temporal relations in the form of absolute chronology.
Second,a highly critical disscusion is given for selected materials and their specific characteristic, with conclusions about dating methods which are most appropriate, plus refference to other part of the book which deals with dating methods per se,and this was a very wise choise in semantical organisation, since it enables easy refference to particular issue.
While one could think of style as something not important with regard to books that are dealing with hard science, this is not case here, because author truly suceeded in making his presentation inteligable to readers who are not experts in nuclear physics, but are obliged to know fundaments, methods, and logic of age determination process in quaternary geology-geologists,anthropologists,paleontologists,archaeologists.
Students of these sciencies have often difficulties in finding materials of explanatory, introductory, practical and bibliographical kind, since it is often too fragmentated to be easily obtained.Up to this day, this book is absolutely the best for that purpose.
Finnaly, one must mention that within entire content, one persistant quality is wide diapazon of perspectives on subject-ranging from theoretical and empirical foundation,to such practical aspects as proper taking of samples.Richly illustrated, with strong bibliographic back-up,this is book that is definitely the most accurate scrutinisation of quarternary age determination, and one needs to follow progress in the field from other, more proptly informative sources-corections in calibration, development and refinement of method etc.-but no more to seek for book that synthetises this area of science in a fashion that is both approachable and also professional.

This is the way to teach history!!!Review Date: 2007-09-24
If these 2 don't partner up and do more, I'll be flabbergasted!
This is a history of Alexander the Great - one that really should be read by kids of all ages, those that hate papyrus dry written history, or those of us who love history - This is an irreverent, fun, and most informative view of Alexander, his family, his triumphs, his legacy. And it's a hoot.
I am a student of history and I loved the ease that Ms. Shecter wrote and got it all down on paper -
PLEASE - continue this series - think how many fun historical people and eras need this type of book! We'd all be scooping them up!
Prehistoric series
Ancient series
Cleopatra, that nice Greek girl!
