I just moved to DC, and I was really lost here until I picked up this thing. The reviewers selected great activities, restaurants,
places, etc. Each one I have tried has been worth my time, if not really outstanding. I've asked long-time locals about
some of the highly recommended but low-profile places, and they have agreed that those are hot spots. The maps are very nice,
and the style is extremely readable. If you need one guide to the city, this is as good a choice as any.

It is really a pity this is out-of-print. This is a great book if you are interested not just in country inns, but in those
with a story.
The book is divided into six regions of England. Approximately one hundred inns are described, with two pages and two (color) photographs dedicated to each.

OK, full disclosure, I was on the cookbook committee, so I am biased. But, we worked very hard and tested each one of these
recipes, and they are all excellent! Over 800 recipes were submitted, and only 300 made it.
Here's why I love this cookbook (and why over 10,000 have been sold so far!): I love to cook, and I love my hometown of Omaha - this cookbook combines the best of both worlds. It includes wonderful tidbits about famous (and not-so-famous) Omaha restaurants, plus the recipes are truly gourmet, without being too stuffy. Many current restaurants contributed recipes, which have been fun to try. The photographs and menus from long-closed restaurants have been an interesting look inside Omaha's history. And I've solved the only problem the cookbook presents (display on the coffee table or on my cookbook shelf?) by buying two!

This is a great reference for collectors of toys from restaurants other than McDonald's. All the "biggies" (BK, Wendy's, Arby's,
etc.) are included along with more regional establishments such as White Castle and Sonic. It covers promotions through early
1994. Black & white photos are included for each promo with special pages of color photos displaying a huge variety of toys.

You think you like it hot? Then hit the Trail, where you'll find restaurants, bars, and cafes that specialize in the kind
of food that makes Mount St. Helens look cool. Some are culinary shrines, but most are undiscovered gems, ranging from a biker
bar in upstate New York to the kind of holes-in-the-wall where cooks use spices by the handful, not the teaspoon measure.
Follow the Trail to a bar in the Adirondacks (accessible only by snowmobile in the winter) where the Armageddon wings will leave you speechless. To a Rastafarian joint in Tampa where the chef whacks pumpkins from the vine with a machete to make pumpkin soup. To an elegant restaurant in Santa Fe that serves heavenly chili rellenos. To a lip-tingling Sri Lankan restaurant in Minneapolis, or to one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in the country (hint: it's in Miami's Little Havana).
More than just a restaurant guide, Trail of Flame is also a celebration of the "culture of hot" and where to find it - at festivals, chili cookoffs, stores, "Hotter-Than-Hell nights" ... even in cyberspace.
Follow Jennifer Trainer Thompson on this cultural and culinary trip through the world and underworld of hot and spicy foods. Her frank, funny reviews and stories will get you revved up to hit the Trail. But a word of caution: just reading it may make you break into a sweat.

This book should not be relied upon for vintage information, top recommended producers, or matching various styles of wine
with food. I think the author is assuming the reader is familiar with German wine, and knows what he or she likes, and writes
to offer directions on how to find many estates (major and otherwise) in every wine-producing region of the country. There
is detailed highway information too, along with addresses, telephone and fax numbers, hours of operation, and suggestions
on whether or not knowledge of German is an issue. The photography is excellent, and every region, including Ahr and the Mittelrhein,
gets comprehensive treatment, so that wherever one might be travelling to Germany, the author will give the most local data.
It's quite a unique book and very enjoyable to read. Highly recommended.

Was ever a cook book as lavishly illustrated? Even the redoubtable Martha Stewart would envy the magnificent photography and
sumptuous recipes. It's all made better by the first person recitation of Mr. and Mrs. Price who wrote about what they'd eaten
and where they'd enjoyed it. And enjoy it they certainly did as will the reader. Not all the recipes are simple, but time
and a careful following of the explicit instructions will yield the delights portrayed. Far from his more famous persona as
the villain deluxe, Vincent Price is revealed as a food critic and traveller who skipped the souvenir stands and brought home,
you'll excuse this, the bacon. I was the on-air cook for a television station for many years and used this collection often.
Attempting to reproduce the lush settings wasn't possible but the strength of the recipes is that they could be served on
Melmac and be just as good. Like reading catalogs for summer flowers in December, this volume will take you to the table in
anticipation of wonderful food. One note, you may be tempted to lick the photos of the food: Don't. But on a cold night after
a bowl of luke warm chicken noodle.....
