Restaurant Books

Time Out publishes a superior dining guide that includes enough quirky categories to satiate the adventurous. Whenever we get together in a large group, we always consult our Time Out NY guide. For such small blurbs, the writing really captures the spirit of restaurant, the best flavors, and the occasional downfall. Guide includes a section on Dive Bars and encompasses Brooklyn and Queens. Time Out's writing is geared toward 20somethings to 40somethings, though its picks certainly encompass all ages. Personally, I find Time Out more reliable than Zagat ratings. Possibly because personal opinions seem more readily available.

Incidentally, the London Time Out guide was one of the first things my husband's sister pulled out when she was looking for a restaurant to take us out to in London.

If you're a city slicker, club crawler or any other stripe of sure footed cement stomper this is the guide for you. While your at it check out TimeOUT's other city guides London, Paris? pourquoi pas mon amie? Just thing for those urbane urbanites!

Time Out has taken the task of assessing NYC's eateries to a whole new level. TONY's guide covers 2,100 spots, sliced up by cuisine. TONY's glossy get-up is filled with gorgeous full-color photos of tasty dishes and consists of reviews by professional staff.

Other pluses: TONY comes with a slim, pull-out pocket guide and includes a section on bars. Also, Time Out now finally has a searchable online database.

So many categories...fits all budgets. This is a keeper.
Comes with a pocket guide. This will save you all from the dreaded "Where do you want to eat tonite" conversations that seem to have no end. Merely present this book. It will also save you hours of wandering around and peeking in restaurant windows.

I'll be in Paris again this summer. The last time I was there I bought the Cheap Eats in Paris book which was pretty good, but this time I wanted something with more up to date information. This book looks great; I've been to Paris enough times to know that this book has good, current restaurant info

Wanna see praha like a native? well- I did. As I was embarking on my journey for 6 months in Prague to go to school I obviouly wanted to experience Prague like a native and enjoy my time in the Czech Republic. Which comes to my point- The Time Out guide to Prague became my new best friend! It was definitly the most in depth travel book, with actual honest responses to good questions that others dont bother to touch. From where to get your clothes washed, to where to find the best deals on beer, to the cubist architecture, museums, to varying clubs, hostels, resturants, that the average tourist doesnt see. Because of Prague's large expat community, it also gave places where to meet other Americans, and where not too (if you wanted to be on your own) It was funny, as I entered my class the rest of the foreign students had brought with them their guides- but by the second week, mine became the standard. Everyone appreciated the honest descriptions to the sights. It was nice to know where you would be ripped off, where to aviod, how to bargain, what to try, and what not to. It also has a section on hospitals- very helpful, what to do in case of an accident, etc. This book is chock full of invaluable information that even after I returned from Prague, I still flip through in disbelief. Later this month, I am heading off to Vienna, and you better bet that I have my Time Out Vienna guide on me. I would not travel any more without one-and neither should you. For the casual tourist to the lenghty stay, this is definitly to book for you. To me it was a great find that will be with me for many trips to come.

I just moved to DC, and I was really lost here until I picked up this thing. The reviewers selected great activities, restaurants, places, etc. Each one I have tried has been worth my time, if not really outstanding. I've asked long-time locals about some of the highly recommended but low-profile places, and they have agreed that those are hot spots. The maps are very nice, and the style is extremely readable. If you need one guide to the city, this is as good a choice as any.

It is really a pity this is out-of-print. This is a great book if you are interested not just in country inns, but in those with a story.

The book is divided into six regions of England. Approximately one hundred inns are described, with two pages and two (color) photographs dedicated to each.

OK, full disclosure, I was on the cookbook committee, so I am biased. But, we worked very hard and tested each one of these recipes, and they are all excellent! Over 800 recipes were submitted, and only 300 made it.

Here's why I love this cookbook (and why over 10,000 have been sold so far!): I love to cook, and I love my hometown of Omaha - this cookbook combines the best of both worlds. It includes wonderful tidbits about famous (and not-so-famous) Omaha restaurants, plus the recipes are truly gourmet, without being too stuffy. Many current restaurants contributed recipes, which have been fun to try. The photographs and menus from long-closed restaurants have been an interesting look inside Omaha's history. And I've solved the only problem the cookbook presents (display on the coffee table or on my cookbook shelf?) by buying two!

This is a great reference for collectors of toys from restaurants other than McDonald's. All the "biggies" (BK, Wendy's, Arby's, etc.) are included along with more regional establishments such as White Castle and Sonic. It covers promotions through early 1994. Black & white photos are included for each promo with special pages of color photos displaying a huge variety of toys.
