I love this guide. If you plan on doing any type of auto travel in Canada, then this book is for you. It's easy to read, easy to use, and packed with information that will help you get where you need to go and find something to do when you get there. It provides solid suggestions for things to do at your destination, including restaurants, parks, special events, and popular tourist attractions. It beats the heck out of a generic atlas!

Gentle, humorous story for young readers.

The story is imaginative and witty, and the illustrations are complex (not busy, just intricate) and colorful. I've already given one copy as a gift and am now buying another.

You need this book if you want to know where to eat in Montreal. This book was indispensable when we visited there. Also tells you which are "off-license", or BYOB and let you bring your own wine. The author gives detailed descriptions of the atmosphere, room and cuisine in reviews that run 3-5 pages. Capsule reviews in the front of the book are informative when you don't have time to read the full review.

For quite a few years, I've been a fan of the Hitchhicker's Guide to the Galaxy books. After reading all the lesser quality books from the library, at an Antiquarian bookstore, I stumbled upon this book that has all of the novels into one collection. With the thickly clothed leather, and gorgeous gold lettering and page edges, this out of print Hitchhiker's Guide is a collectibe, I will treasure forever on a special place in my bookcase.

Great Bargain Source

This book lists all sorts of gems, esp for appliances, electronics and carpeting. Every store I have gone too has been terrific, and their prices the lowest when I did a comparison. However, a lot has changed since 1996 and the book desperately needs to be updated. Mark....please prepare a 2001 version!

A Beautiful picture of the Nantucket Restaurant Scene
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 9 total.
Review Date: 2001-05-16
Though I've never been to Nantucket, this book absolutely makes me want to go, the next time I'm on the East Coast. In the meantime, I can flip through this gorgeous book and dream. The photography is alluring and recipes so inventive and interesting. Some of them seem a little cheffy, but for the most part they look easy enough to make for a summer dinner party. Plus, the profiles of the restaurantuers make me want to try their recipes! It makes a great gift.

A recipe for success
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-10-27
This work is far more than a cookbook. It is also a primer on successful entrepreneurship and business management in the restaurant and other service industries; a commentary on the psychology of successful business people in general and restaurateurs in particular; a monograph on healthful foods; and a memoir of the customers and staff encountered by the author during twenty-eight successful years in the restaurant business. It is superbly illustrated with photographs and paintings. The book epitomizes the elements of a successful life: love of humanity, success in a consumer-oriented business, trust in employees, optimism about customers, knowledge of fine dining in general and of Italian cuisine in particular. It is effectively an autobiography of a successful entrepreneur, husband, and father, of a man of the world who is equally comfortable in densely populated Manhattan and in the exclusive summer resort island of Nantucket. It is the culmination of decades of experience, and it is well written and very rewarding reading.
