Dr. DeFranco is one of the most brilliant people I know in the hospitality industry. This is pretty deep stuff (a school text book). It helps a lot though once you are out in the real world.

Even residents of New Mexico may not realize all the gourmet events happening around the state, nor the culinary trends taking place: that's why professional food writer Sally Moore's Culinary New Mexico: The Ultimate Food Lover's Guide will prove eye-opening to so many. From restaurants and bakeries to food festivals, cooking stores and even wineries, Culinary New Mexico outlines all food oriented destinations, from handmade chocolate makers to breweries and cafes. The recipes scattered throughout also assure many dishes will be reproduced outside the state; but the meat of Culinary New Mexico lies in its destination-oriented tips travelers and residents will appreciate!

a wonderful surprise

We took this book out of our local library for my 2 year old daughter. She LOVED the story. We had to renew it 3 times (which is the maximum allowable) and she was so sad the day it had to be returned...I promised her we'd buy a copy to keep. She practically can recite the book from memory herself. The drawings are adorable, and it's a good length for a young child's attention span. We read it to her now, but in a few years she'll enjoy it all over again when she can read it herself!

Great for using my e-mail while traveling! A must!

Have you ever felt out of touch with friends and family while on the road, but the time difference and the cost of calling made it difficult for you to make contact? Well, this book is for you! It saved me a fortune on a recent trip to Southern California where I used this book to find out where I could access my e-mail while traveling. When I signed up for my free traveltales.com e-mail account, listed in the book, I was able to send and receive mail with all of my friends and family! I took the book along, which was pocket sized, and as I traveled I found local cybercafes and enjoyed my e-mail while I had a cup of coffee or my lunch. It is so much better, cheaper, and faster than making long distance calls to each person and keeping track of the time differences. In the course of my lunch, I was able to send letters and read updates from friends and family, as well as keep in touch with my business contacts! And, my e-amil address book is stored on my account! Nothing like a little Latte and Letters! This is the wave of the future!

SOS to the rescue!

Although most of the recipes are home versions from restaurants, Santa Barbara to San Diego, CA, there are a dozen or so from other states, as far away as Vermont. The recipes are universally simple and yield very good results. Some of the restaurants are no longer in existence so this book gives you a chance to recreate a favorite. There are also popular recipes from TGIFriday's, Olive Garden, Clifton's Cafeteria, Chili's, El Torito (those great corncakes), Knott's Berry Farm, Lawry's as well as restaurants such as El Cholo, the Border Grill and the like. There is a recipe from the now gone Twin Tower restaurant in NY. The soup section and the salad section are my favorites, although being able to make at home both Ranger Cookies from LAUSD and the Potatoes Romano from the Original Enterprise Fish Co. in Santa Barbara, CA is worth the price of the book! You'll enjoy the selection whether you have eaten at any of these eateries or not.

Because these recipes are reader requested, over time they have endured and, just like on the Millionaire (Who Wants to Be), the Ask The Audience lifeline is almost always right on target. So is this book.
