This Guide is so incredibly handy. When travelling on business I always take the Guide along to guarantee a fine dining experience for me and my clients. It has never steered me wrong that is why I've also purchased it for clients who, like me, travel often or who enjoy fine dining, fine wines, etc. Excellent resource. Impressive gift. Nothing like Zagats -- this is fine dining. The only problem with it -- I understand there are MORE Dirona restaurants around the country but they are not listed in the directory. That's too bad.

2006 Las Vegas Zagat's

Indispensible. So many restaurants, so little time. Reviews for Craftsteak, Craft'wich (although didn't realize was closed at night) and Bouchon were right on. Since Las Vegas is now a world class foodie town, we now wish we had more time to explore some of the middle priced options. Highly recommend; would think it would need to be updated annually.

What can I eat that is close to my residence (or hotel)?

This map is essential to find out what restaurants are nearby. Be it neighborhood, residence, or hotel, or after-theater dining, you can glance at the map and see what establishments are close.

If you have detailed questions, it helps to have the accompanying (alphabetical) Zagat Guide handy.

Superb for out-of-towners as well as locals. These maps have also been published for San Francisco, and possibly Chicago, but not many others.

Good book for basic reference
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-10-29
My wife and I bought this book prior to a trip to Portugal. The book gave us really great information on the history, major sights and attractions during our drive through the country broken up into very organized sections (by region). It also gave very useful information on rules of the road, emergency numbers and even a road map. Where we think the book fell a little short was in lodging info. Use it as a guide only, because often the listed lodgings were not numerous enough in this book to be useful. A quick Google yields more lodging info, or even a chat with a concierge or a local travel agent or the local welcome center (in Fatima for example). We basically went with the wind and booked lodging on the fly based on local information and recommendations rather than this book (we were glad we did). Our suggestion, rent a GPS with your rental car, pack this book, get a real road map and ask the locals for recommendations, and do some Googling before you go. Great guide book to have with you though. Enjoy your trip!

If you have ever been to The Abbey in Atlanta, this book is a MUST HAVE! The dining experience there is absolutely the best I have ever experienced. To be able to bring part of that home is wonderful!

The book is well written and the recipes are easy to understand. For example, any recipe you review has a title, lists yield, has a description, has suggested uses, the recipe and special hints or notes.

I am very likely to try some of these 5 star restaurant recipes for my family. I think it is a wonderful book and a wonderful keepsake from my trip.

PS: Thanks Amazon.com for having this book in stock when even the publisher didn't have any!

This is by far, the most informative restaurant guide I have ever read for the city of San Francisco. The book includes listings of the best places to dine by category and the ratings are very close to accurate. A totally must-have book in San Francisco and the surrounding area.

The best guide to Napa Valley's food scene we've seen--dozens of places we'd never know about without this book. It's got everything, in all price ranges, from gourmet restaurants to fantastic picnic sites. The insider "tips" on each page were invaluable.

Honest to God, laugh out loud funny

I am an avid reader of many genres, and when it comes to humor or satire I will occasionally find myself grinning at the text, but French's efforts had me laughing out loud a number of times. A great satirical overview of the restaurant industry, combined with the bite of an expose amid the unfolding of an autobiography. Perhaps too "colorful" for prudes, it is satire at its finest. At least on par, if not better than, Anthony Bourdain's "Kitchen Confidential", which is written from the back-of-the-house perspective. Well done!

If you love barbecue, the south and need a guide to great barbecue in Alabama, this is a must read. It is an excellent reference guide while traveling the state of Alabama or if you are looking for another barbecue restaurant in your hometown.

It is easy to read and the book has several cross references and maps to assist you in your search for the "heavenly BBQ." The publication also is easy to read and to understand.

We keep ours in our car for emergency use when craving smoked meats of any kind.
