CROCODILES & MOON MACHINES ---- FATHER & SON FANTASIESReview Date: 2001-01-30
If your name was Abel Grable and your wife's name was Mabel you too would have to get away every now and then.
"Abel's Moon" is set sometime in the 1950's going by the clothes the characters wear. Abel has to leave his family and travel to find work. They are not a prosperous family, the front gate squeaks and the garden is overgrown. There is no TV or video games in this house. Instead they sit around the fire and tell stories. Somehow they look happy!
There are 3 children Adam, Noah and baby Ben, and of course Skipper the dog. The boys know how to entertain themselves, such as playing at being wild animals. Mabel and Ben love dancing to the music on the radio. When Abel is back home he tries to write up the stories of his travels but the noise from the family is too much. He has to go out into the garden to get some peace and quiet in order to work.
Abel's stories about his adventures are full of tales about monkey's swinging through trees, crocodiles in muddy swamps and travelling on riverboats to remote places.
Once again it was time for Abel to set out to find work. The boys missed their Dad very much.
The boys turn the old writing table that Dad had used out in the garden into a camp. They are sure they can hear monkeys in the trees. They then turn the table upside down to make a pretend boat. They paddled it through muddy crocodile infested swamps with only the moon to guide them.
Adam one day decided that the writing table could be turned into a moon machine with the addition of few planks of wood to make some propellers. Under the light of the full moon Adam looked out at the moon machine in his garden.
Adam had a remarkable and profound thought. " He knew that the moon was shining down on him, and Abel too. It shone down on all the people who loved each other and couldn't always be together, beaming down on each and every one, no matter how far away they were".
With his strong sense of imagination Adam planned that one night soon, he and Noah (and Skipper if he behaved himself) would take off in the moon machine, and drop in on Dad, wherever he was.
Soon Abel would be back home with his family. The boys would then tell Abel all about THEIR adventures.
You get the message that Abel's sons have just as strong sense of imagination as their father does. You guess his crocodile stories may be just as real as Adam's trips in his moon machine.
"Abel's Moon" is a delightful story. The illustrations capture the era and the atmosphere perfectly.

Get grandfather to read this one to your kids...Review Date: 2000-10-18
Children can follow the story easily and recognise the situations as the baby bear shouts for more each time Grandbear plays with him by crying 'AGAIN! AGAIN!'.
Parents can sympathise with Grandbear who is obviously growing weary of the baby's demands but by the end of this short story it is he that wants more in a pleasant twist that all parents and grandparents will recognise.
A wonderful gift for a grandparent to give to their grandchild but it would also work in reverse as a gift for grandparents from the grandchild.
I hope you but this and enjoy it as much as my son and I have.

Good enough to eat!Review Date: 2004-05-04
The other thing that impressed me about the book was the intimate scenes. It was very tastefully done. Too many books today step over the line. While A.C. was graphic where he needed to be, it didn't smother the story.
The story line was clever. A woman hooks up with a chef to help him build his restaurant traffic, with recipes in several chapters. Simply delicious.
I can't wait for another book by A.C. Moore.
A very unique story with characters you will enjoyReview Date: 2004-01-21
When Marcus meets Justine Coleman, a budding entrepreneur who has a specialty in marketing, the two team up to increase the success of the restaurant and take an interest in each other.
Their interest is only the beginning as Justine begins to experience success in a way that has her changing her values and making deals with some very dangerous people.
I loved the way that A.C. Moore alternates between Justine's and Marcus' point of view. The reader gets a chance to see how men and women can have two entirely different perspectives centered around one situation.
Throughout the book, I found everything from steamy love scenes, comedy and even thrilling drama. The recipes and dishes that Marcus prepares for Justine were also a nice added touch. I think that A.C. Moore was clever to include the recipes at the end of the chapters.
I gave this book a five star rating, because Always Room for Dessert goes well beyond the typical dime a dozen romance novel formula that's cluttering the shelves. I think we have a real author here!

A delightful tale about a baker who tries to make a world.Review Date: 1998-12-05
"The Ambitious Baker's Batter" is suitable for children and adults of all ages. Like the best children's books, it is sophisticated enough to succeed on many different levels. The illustrations are detailed, imaginative, and entertaining. Most pages feature both primary and background art. Children (and their parents, too!) will enjoy discovering hidden treasures in these background drawings. Also, the book's illustrations are so evocative that children who can't yet read will be able to follow the story independently.
"The Ambitious Baker's Batter" is an ideal gift for the holidays, a time when children are fascinated by the mysteries and magic of baking.

an inspirational mirror to the soul.Review Date: 1999-07-04
I have given this book on several occassions, to a teenager struggling with her identity, and an adult struggling to find hers.
A book I gave to my therapist as a Christmas gift. It meant so much to me to share Rusty's words. I am sorry it's out of print, I have tried ordering,no luck. I almost gave my copy away!!
