In this, another great book by Marc Brown, children can learn vicariously through Arthur about money management, and specifically, how hard it is to earn money and how easily it is lost. These, ( the Arthur and D.W. Books), are great books, and more up to date than most children's books.

Best Coloring Book Ever!!

This is one of the best coloring books I've ever used! Although I wouldn't reccomend it for very small children only because the text is a bit advanced. The pictures are detailed wonderfully, and the pictures are based on classics such as Cinderella, The Nutcracker, Giselle, and The Sleeping Beauty. The pages are extra-big so you can color more on each page. If you're wanting a good ballet coloring book, this is the one to get!!

Not for young kids!

I don't know why Amazon lists this book for ages 4 - 8. There is no way a 4 year old could read the material here. The pictures are sophisticated in their execution, and requires a steady hand and a light touch to complete.

This is an awesomely pretty book, best enjoyed by tweens to adults.

This is such a good book and mainly because I couldn't find the treasure before the end of the novel. This took place in the Gulf of Mexico. I liked how the author described the setting. It's so cool when Wishbone talked to himself. 5th grader - Nick Gormican

We often get Bean/Soup books for my daughter from our library, and they are a hit. The illustrations are precious and the text is simple and perfect for even the littlest babies, especially when first starting to identifying "dog", "cat", and "baby". My daughter is older now, but she still loves thumbing through Bean/Soup books on her own.

My daugther loves this book. "Reading" it has been one of her favorite pasttimes since she has been able to sit up on her own (6 months old.) The simple pictures, text and concepts are a perfect for her as she is developing a sense of the world around her. Now 13 months old she still loves this series and I have searched hi and low to complete it. Enjoy!

The illustrations are bright and appealing and the text is simple and clear. The combination works and my twins love it. It is also the perfect size for their hands.

A Much-Needed Book for Women and Mothers

Review Date: 2008-01-24
Becoming Peers is a wonderful and much-needed book for anyone who is an elder or mother to girls. There are no road maps today for how to help girls transition to womanhood in a meaningful and concrete way, so this book fills in a huge gap. DeAnna L'am provides easy-to-do and exciting activities that girls and women can engage in together that truly lead to the enhancement of a girl's self-esteem and her passage into greater maturity. I was stunned to see the degree to which the special girl in my life did a turnaround after she was lovingly embraced in ceremony by older women. Ceremony really works, yet it's so easy to overlook that fact because most of our supposedly spiritual rituals have lost their meaning. I also love how DeAnna has women make it a priority to take care of themselves first and quench their own thirst for healing and ceremony as a means of preparing for a girl's rite of passage. This is a must-read for anyone who wants to help girls thrive.

What a gift this book is to all women of today, and tomorrow. The author brings out a "taboo" topic and turns it into a beautiful gift. She explains in easy to understand language how (and why) to welcome girls into womanhood. This is a great book for woman who has young girls in their lives, weather its friends or relatives.

Review Date: 2006-10-01
Russ Hall has written great books in two genres now: mystery and western. This book has elements of both genres: the story wends about in unexpected turns, like a mystery, while the backbone and the details of setting are true to great westerns. There is a tender story at the heart of a McMurty-like story about the harshness and cruelty of the old West. I loved this book. I hope you will too.

I fell in love with the story of Bent Red Moon! It was the kind of book that grabbed my attention from beginning to end. The setting of rustic hills in Texas was so real I could almost feel the heat from the sun and the grit on my tongue. My favorite part was seeing how Mick and his dark skinned friend would get out of the trouble that seemed to follow them everywhere. I'd recommend this book to anyone who loves westerns, romance, excitement and mystery all wrapped up in one.

I am nine years old and have read both of Ken Ramirez's books. This book was physically impossible to put down. I like how he spun golden looms of detailed pictures. In this book I enjoyed how Naida, Randin, and Hayden had to overcome many obstacles and tasks. My favorite task was when the Rock Sprite gave them the task of stopping the poison that was spreading throughout the mountain.

If you enjoy fantasy, characters that come to life and seem real, never-ending adventure, and detailed descriptions you will love this book.

Title: Beyond the Red Mountains Book Two of the Naida's Quest Trilogy
AUTHOR: Ken Ramirez
Hayden, a young princess of the wood elves, begins a dangerous journey that almost ends her life. Be it luck or fate, Naida and Randin, along with Mikki, Naida's pet lynx, find her mortally wounded and with their healing skills, bring Hayden back to health. Naida, and Randin, gnomes from the other side of the mountains, are on a quest to find Naida's parents, but take it upon themselves to return Hayden to her home and family. This seemingly simple task becomes an adventure beyond their wildest dreams and beyond their limited experience with the outside world. They encounter trolls and humans, sprites and dwarves in situations that challenge their knowledge and skills, but they meet each new challenge with the exuberance of youth, winning the hearts of readers of all ages.
This beautifully crafted tale was written by Ken Ramirez, author of Gift of the Ancient Grove, his first in this series. Vivid descriptions of characters and settings, of battles and near escapes allow the reader to experience this story as though part of the little band that travels the Red Mountains. Detailed illustrations, by Boni Metcalf, grace the beginning of each chapter.
I highly recommend this book to all readers who love the fantasy world of fairies, gnomes and trolls, though it is of an appropriate reading level for children ages 8 to 12 years. This is also an excellent story for young readers who are thwarted by the massive volumes of other modern fantasies. Beyond The Red Mountains is just the right length to keep the reader riveted to its pages and eager, as I am, to read about Naida and Randin's next adventures.

Ken has a special talent to cross borders merging folklore with fantasy
in such an amazing way. And he paints pictures with his words in a
fashion that makes you feel as if you are watching a movie. His
characters possess such believable personalities. I found his work very
unique falling between Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings; it is sure to
captivate both those followers as well as those in between. Book two can
be followed by all, even if you never read the first of the trilogy, due
to Ken's hints relating to certain "gifts" given to the questing group
in book one. Once you reach the end of either book you are certain to be
left with a desire to keep on questing! Can't wait for book three!

Beautiful arrangements

Review Date: 2008-01-29
I love the arrangements in this books. They are not your "run of the mill" Christmas carols. Some are jazzy and others are soft and sweet. The book is marked medium difficulty and I would say that's about right. Some I could sight-read but many would take a bit of work. There are a lot of key changes within each piece. I particularly like In the Bleak Mid-winter, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, which is a jazzed up version, Lo! How a Rose E'er Blooming and Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus to name just a few. The only thing I don't like about the book is that it won't stay open. No matter how hard you crease the pages it still ends up trying to close while you're playing the song. But, in spite of that, it's a great book and I would still buy it.

A nice challenge

Finally, a nice Christmas music book filled with lovely arrangements that are on the intermediate level! The description of this book was spot on. The arrangements are challenging and not boring or too simple. Plus they are nice melodies...not oddly constructed arrangements that have discordant notes and such. Glad to have it in my repertoire!
