I don't know why I haven't heard more about this book. I stumbled across it purely by accident but have been surprised to find it is one of the best reads I've had in this genre this year. Glad I found it.

For a very long time, this book was "Unavailable" or "Out of Print". Naturally, I found that intriguing. When this book became available to order, I wasted no time. I feel my wait was certainly rewarded.

Michael's prose is magnetic. It's as if I'm drawn to read faster and faster. These types of reads are rare, to me. Character development was effective, and the storyline is wonderful, even if controversial.

To anyone who likes Cold War books, this is a must-read. For those who want a good story to read, pick this up. I know your money will be well spent!

If you like Historic Fiction, Mystery, Sci-Fi, Spy novels, Cold War Political Intrique, or even action works (to a lesser extent) then this book is for you! It welds the aforementioned genre's together and is a perfect rainy sunday afternoon read. Hard to put down, and a fascinating scenario! I had to read it two times to be sure I didn't miss any details. Totally believable plot line and excellent characterizations, as well as interesting details on the space programs of the era from both the US and Soviet perspectives. I heartily recommend Red Moon.

Review Date: 2008-03-12
Political Ponerology is not one of the easiest books to read, yet it contains concepts that are absolutely essential for any person struggling to understand exactly what is happening today to the governments, corporations and societies of this planet.

Andrew Lobaczewski spares few words in outlining the core problems facing the contemporary study of psychology and the humanistic "natural world view" that tends to gloss over the facts when confronted with the conscienceless manipulation that is the hallmark of the psychopath. Rationalisation and pseudo-moralising are two of the biggest tools that the psychological predator has in its toolkit, and Lobaczewski explains in somewhat technical terms how they proceed to carve a trail of emotional and psychic destruction in the lives of those they come into contact with.

Less of the book is devoted to the nature and behaviour of the psychopath and "characteropath" (a psychopath by nurture rather than nature), than the process of what Lobaczewski describes as "ponerogenesis", or the creation of complex social networks inside otherwise normal organizations which then attain complete control in order to use the organization to exclusively fulfil the self-serving goals of the psychopaths. Lobaczewski uses observations of the Nazi German and Communist Soviet regimes to demonstrate how whole governments can become infected by these networks to the point that nations begin to display pathological behaviour (aggression, expansionist agendas, social policy decay, suppression of civil liberties and terrorising the population, and eventually large-scale murder and genocide). Advanced cases of ponerization result in what Lobaczewski calls a "Pathocracy" - government by the pathological.

He also describes the way that normal citizens in a developing pathocracy begin to display increasingly hysterical behaviour and this in turn abets the rise and formation of an advanced pathocracy as the masses lose their "common sense". His references to the phenomenon as being similar to a virulent disease that can kill an otherwise healthy organism are disturbingly apt when one considers the collapse of Germany after WWII, and Russia after the fall of Communism.

The proposed solution for immunizing oneself from the effect of both individual predators and pathological systems is to learn the psychological knowledge required, and put it into practice by becoming a keen observer of human behaviour. Not an easy task, but one that may eventually become essential to one's survival in these troubled times.

I would class this book as mandatory reading for anybody who wants to learn how to protect themselves from abuse by psychological predators and how bureaucracy, corporate, and government systems can become propagators of similar abusive values.

We are living in a society that is ill ... we (society in general) have been overtaken by psychopaths at the highest level. Those individuals who govern and rule our lives have worked at creating a world where inhumanity has become the norm.

Reading about ponerology, you will come to understand what "it" is and why it is so important that we recognize the immoral behaviors of some, that have set in motion wars, upon wars, upon wars ... never to end.

But hope is not lost. Read this book and find out why.

Most people on earth just want to live a good life and take care of their families, and live in a world where goodwill and tolerance reign supreme despite differences. With six billion people on the planet you would think that our reality would reflect this, but it doesn't. Ever wondered why, or more to the point HOW? The answer is that a SECRET SCIENCE has been used on the masses by an elite 4% of the population for literally millenia! This unique scientific work will make you aware of the workings of this invisible science and how agents of lies, obfuscation and perversion, infiltrate every civil organization on the planet to weild their dark magic to effect change, which manifests ultimately on the macro-social level. It's a science of how to change minds and hearts toward their selfish political agendas. By simply reading this scientific work in my opinion, would empower every one of us with sufficient knowledge to reclaim our world from the genocidal, psychopathic, warmongering agents of death and suffering who became our overlords by virtue of our ignorance.

As I understand, the odds of this extensively researched book being published were slim to none. It attacks the system -- whatever name or ideology it may go by, be it "communism" or "democracy = free market reign [yeah, right]" -- at its very core.

The book exposes the true perpetrators of evil and deviance on the planet -- psychopaths -- and the psychological mechanisms via which the control over the population is instituted and maintained. AFAIK, it is the only book out there that puts all the available information into a coherent whole which has far-reaching implications. No wonder such knowledge would be considered dangerous and would be suppressed by all means available.

The author, Andrzej M. Lobaczewski, had been through hell and beyond, and I applaud his determination and wisdom. The publisher, RPP press, is no less deserving of praise: editing this book, supplementing it with comments on recent research and bringing it to us readers is truly an act of service to humanity.

The book is written in an academic style, appropriate for the complex ideas that it conveys. It is not a light read; prepare to dedicate time to it and come back to the important passages. It will surely be a time well spent.

As written on the book , this is the most important book , is a must read to whoever feels the drive for understanding the reality today , the ponerization of the world as described by lobaczewsky is something that , in his words, shouldn't try to cure if not understood and that book is an amazing step towards understanding , and truth and again as the author points out "truth is a healer", really the most important book to read today

Dirty Sally
Whoever you are is great look at introducing youngsters to cultural diversity. "Culture" basically refers to commonalities that run through a group of people with a shared heritage. Sometimes children probably believe that her culture - way of doing things - is the "right" one and that others are a bit "funny." As you read Whoever You Are, you can begin to look at other cultures with your child, aim for an appreciation of differences. Eventually, this will lead to an increased appreciation of the incredible variety of human attributes, flexible thinking, and less prejudice and stereotyping. This type of conversation has to take place. That is why I wrote a children's' book entitled, Dirty Sally..The untold stories of mixed race kids who find a new identity, love, faith and forgiveness through GOD.
There is an interesting story behind the title. I was often taunted or teased about being biracial. Some of my family members and friends called me Dirty Sally. Dirty Sally is an old slavery term used to identify the descendants or offspring of Sally Hemings, a former slave and the late President Thomas Jefferson. Sally Hemings was biracial her mother was ½ white and ½ black and her father white. This book focuses on the misconceptions surrounding racial identity and the importance of choosing one's racial identity. Dirty Sally is a must read not only for inter-racial families, but for all parents hoping to instill in their children a sense of understanding and compassion. I believe that change requires resistance and within that process we can help heal some of the wounds that continue to inflict on racially mixed children. Purchase available on Amazon.com the ISBN# is 9781432707743

This is a very moving tribute written by a daughter about her mother. It is also well-researched and well-written, shedding new light on the movement of mail through work camps and even concentration camps. Sala's story of survival and redemption is remarkable, and the reader can well imagine the emotional roller-coaster the author must have experienced uncovering her mother's story.

The story of Polish Jews who were lucky enough not to be sent directly to the death camps, yet unlucky enough not to make it onto Schindler's list or find some other long-term refuge. Writing mostly about her mother's family as they lived for six years on the precipice, Kirschner produces something amazing: an important piece of scholarship that never feels like a historical tome. Rather, it stands on its own as a deeply moving, character-based story that will leave you wanting to revisit passages about remarkably brave and beautiful people -- some survivors, some not -- who were nearly forgotten by history. Despite Kirschner's proximity to the story, she never forces herself into the narrative; rather, she weaves personal elements into the story only when they can add a new and critical dimension. The result is a book that deserves to be dog-eared and passed around repeatedly.

I did not think I would like a book about a tiger loose in Georgia. Boy, was I wrong. This story sucks you in and you want to keep reading.

A year or so ago the SciFi Channel made a pathetic movie that was obviously based on this book. But as bad as the movie was, the book is great.

I would advise anyone who likes high suspense and action to read this book.

Credible characters, an incredible read.

The people in Jack Warner's book are not only believable, but something even more exciting; they are southern characters not steeped in stereotype. The sheriff is skillful, astute and unpretentious. The people have an identifiable heritage without being all that different from myself and my neighbors.

Each development is unpredictable at the same time it feels inevitable in the flow of the story. An author who weaves a wonderful tale at the same time he seems to point out that this age of information more than ever needs an awareness of and respect for wisdom. Such an unusually discerning novel is amazingly not ponderous but as quietly powerful as the animal it introduces to us.

Jack Warner is a master storyteller.

I've been privileged to enjoy Warner's work for more than 20 years, from his days as a wire-service deskman to newspaper reporter to his station in life now as a novelist. He is one of the finest writers I've encountered. He doesn't waste words or mince them; he can tell you more in two sentences than most writers can in 20. His writing is elegant and illuminating and never flabby. He is effusively efficient.

After only a few pages of "Shikar" you will feel the man-eating tiger's yellow, glowing eyes stalking you. You will also feel a strong reluctance to put the book down. You might also never look at a walk in the woods the same way again.

This is a heart-stopping thriller but also a sweet story about a noble old man and an innocent young boy with more in common than one might imagine. These are characters with hearts and souls.

My wish is that Jack Warner writes faster. I can't wait for his next book.

This is an excellent, straight-forward, sensitive book that deals with a topic that is difficult. It is written so that it can be easily understood and is incredibly helpful to victims as well as therapists who treat them. The author validates the victim's world and encourages the victim to get help and talks about the many males who have survived and are healing.

As a spouse of a survivor, I read this book which also offered advice to partners and spouses. This book gave way too many examples and other info for the first 4 chapters. Most of us already have an idea of what sexual abuse against boys can entail, there were just way too many stories of survivors that were disturbing and difficult to read. It did however give important insight and ways to get help and help yourself but it came along with a lot of unneeded information. If you have the time and patience it is a good tool towards recovery.

To my knowledge, it is the first book with a healing theme that has been written with a therapist's voice giving support and explaining and breaking down issues throughout. It has universal appeal and, though it continues to be the best book on sex abuse for teenage girls, it is really appropriate to anyone healing from abuse. This book turned my life around. As a survivor of rape and abuse, I had developed many unhealthy habits such as denial and isolation. After reading this book, I felt connected to a larger community and was finally able to get some help! The stories of the girls in this book are so personal and so touching that it is easy to find strength in their struggle to heal.

But the real power of this book for me is that the individual accounts of abuse and survival are used as examples to support the chapters on each kind of abuse. These chapters are filled with information about the abuse, understanding of the typical response (did you count? detach? act out? It's all ok here.), and advise on how to work through the memories of the experience.

I would recommend this book not only to any girl who has suffered abuse, but also to anyone who knows someone who has suffered. It will help you understand the pain and bring a very hidden problem into the open where it can be fought.

I am a clinical social worker in Louisiana. This book has been helpful for several of my clients. The book includes several girls' stories, which have helped to normalize my clients' experiences. It also includes a question/answer section that seems to cover many topics that teenage girls may be afraid to ask themselves. I also found the "Resource Center" at the end of the book helpful. Dr. Patti has a website and is resposive to questions via that site.

I appreciate what Dr. Patti is trying to do here. I do. However, this book is laden with the myths and stereotypes survivors are fighting to overcome in their everyday life. I was extremely disappointed when I read this. The author practically says that "Date Rape" (also known as acquaintance rape, which is by far the more correct term--look up statistics if you're interested in what I mean) is often preventable. This again places the onus on potential victims/survivors to make sure they aren't assaulted. So often, those wo haven't survived a rape or assault are told they shouldn't have had that last drink, or worn a short skirt, or done ANYTHING that could have potentially put them at risk. No one ever mentions that it is a perp's decision to assault someone. She seemed to say that it wasn't the survivor's fault while simultaneously contending that rape can be prevented--and that if you put yourself in a certain position, you were in some way implicitly involved in your own assault.

She also "rates" abuse and assault. While this may seem innocent (Incest, for example, is "the deepest cut"--or wound--it's been awhile since I read it), it implies that other experiences are somehow less damaging. Isn't it more important to support all survivors than to somehow rank their experience and trauma? Who can do that, and why would we want to? Also, the ONLY example of child on child sexual interaction is in terms of "playing doctor." While it is important to differentiate normal exploration and abuse, Dr. Patti fails to include in her book an example of NONconsensual sexual interaction between children. This further promotes the idea that child on child sexual abuse cannot when occur when it can and does.

I could barely make it through this one. I wish her the best of luck, but this book really didn't do it for me. There are others out there that are much better.

Hmmm...

This is good stuff.

This man loves his wife, that's for sure!

As for me, to discover he is content while reading this book, is an understatement of the first degree.

John Solomon grants us the favour of an intimate glimpse at his sexual feelings towards his lady. It's cooking, hot and steamy as you can expect of a heating boiler. It makes your ears turn red and your head to sweat. I enjoyed the book very much. It's tangible, visible, perceptible and enjoyable when you are engaged in a similar liaison and can recognize the train of thoughts he is experiencing throughout the day.

With an exquisite taste of humor and sexual feelings, he plays with words and ties them like a string. This man has a delicate feeling for what the phenomenon of pleasure is doing to you as a male human being. A great lesson for many serious believing men to enjoy life with the girl of their dreams. And for women to learn a little more about the feelings and fantasies that are racing through the male head while admiring his love.

A final word must be said, this book is a danger to the dispassionate reader.

A nice job!

It could be science fiction
myths...
unrealistic scenario,
but certainly it is amazing.
So much work went in the
preparation of this book.
So much details.
My God!
It is really amazing....

The artwork in this book is fabulous. It's a neat little companion book for sci-fi fans; it has wonderful illustrations of all the various organisms that have been portrayed in some of sci-fi's classic and canonical works. And along with those illustrations? Little one-page write ups on their biology, social structure, etc.

Once I saw that there was a Velantian in this, from E. E. Doc Smith's Lensman series, I was sold, and had to get it. Done as a page by page look at each species the artwork is excellent, and these are the sort of funny looking monster types that kids like too, so it can work on more than one level, most definitely.

Good book. I have owned this since I was a child. It was a great portal into many of these classic Sci Fi books as I would have never heard about them otherwise. Barlowe has a fantastic nack for bringing life to these aliens. Highly recommended.

I enjoy art books, mainly books of fantasy art. But this book is more a sci-fi art book, and a very good one at that. Mr. Barlowe did a excellent job with the illustrations in this book. I read H.P. Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness." I had a hard time visualizing the Old ones described in that novelette. But Mr. Barlowe helped me greatly by including them in this volume and even summarizing their history. I would love to see how Mr. Barlowe would visualize all the creatures in my book, Tales of Ancient Xenar. I know he has a fantasy art book and I hope to see that one very soon. And to be honest, the only thing I am disappointed about is the fact Amazon.com ony allows a max of 5 stars. This book deserve well more than that.

I remember my mother reading Frances books to me when I was little, and I couldn't wait to read them to my daughter. The Frances books are wonderful children's stories.

I loved the Frances books growing up and now my two-year is enjoying them. I just read Bread and Jam to her and she loves it, especially the songs Frances sings (I sing them to the tune of Mary has a Little Lamb). I love the parenting advice in the book, too. We love the description of the lunches these little badgers unpack and eat at school. I love the quality of the illustrations and the writing. I think it's children's book writing at the best. So many books now are just plain silly!

Frances, a classic children's character

I read the FRANCES books to my daughters (now grown) and am buying every one I can get my hands on to read to my two grandsons and my granddaughter. The character of Frances is so very human, and she has such realistic foibles that every child can identify with. Frances is a classic.

(I have no qualms about the parental roles portrayed in the book. Can't parents choose the roles they wish, and isn't the traditional role a valid choice?)
