This book is great now you can take a leaf and with this book get family, botanical and common names. My landscaping class used it more than anything else. Best money I ever spent. The Identification key in the front of the book is a great time saver when trying to find what tree you are looking at.

This book has 600 full-color photos of more than 500 species of trees. All descriptions of tree features are located immediately adjacent to the photos. The book contains an introduction that explains what a tree is and a visual identity key to illustrate the difference between conifers, broadleafs and palms. This is followed by the tree photos and descriptions, in turn followed by a glossary and index. The book does not include all minor varieties found in the U.S. but it includes trees from all over the world. For United States tree fans, it makes a good companion book for a U.S. oriented guide to identify imported specie

I LOVE THIS BOOK! I am a horticulture student and I got this book to help me with tree ID. If I wasn't a student, this book would still be WONDERFUL. It is easy to follow- any one who wants to identify trees could use this book. It has become my favorite book! I was able to identify every tree I came across on mt vacation in the San Juans.
Very enjoyable, especially for the amateur tree fan

If you enjoy tree guides, you'll find this satisfying. While not the most complete guide available, the illustration are great, as is usually the case in Eyewitness guides. If you are interested in trees as a beginner or hobbyist this book is great for helping to actually recognize the trees included and getting a little interesting information on each one. I also own the Eyewitness guide to herbs and have used both these books a lot, mostly for browsing through in my spare time.

Every year as the holidays approached my daughter requested this book from the library. Ed Emberley's books are still the best books for easy step-by-step drawing instructions - simple lines and shapes accumulate into a satisfying whole. My son rarely picked up a drawing utensil, but he'd be down on the floor, right beside his sister drawing away - satisfied and rarely frustrated. Emberley's "Big Orange Book" also recieved a lot of use in our house around Halloween.

Ed's books on thumbprints...and simplier drawing books would probably be considered the *first* steps while i would consider this the *first and a half* step... there are more complex (more steps to some pictures) drawings... there are still pretty easy ones and if this isnt your shilds first book and they are at a stage where they are ready for something a bit more challenging this would be a good second line of art books.. it still is writtne in the same way and there are still easy easy things to draw BUT for those wishing to increase their skill/hardness level..there are pictures with more steps. the pictures are still broken down into easy to follow steps and it is STILL much easier and more understandable than most art books out there for kids... and there are so many things to choose from!

This book is from a series of 4 books from Emberly are the easiest books on drawing there are, period. Anyone young or old can learn to draw some great critters and vehicles from these books. ANYONE! All of his Big Color books are great, (They are a series, each named after a color). This one is famous for the easy way it shows you how to draw step by step, what appears to be a complex fire engine, but it is simple when you do it his way. THis book includes a number of fun ideas including Uncle Sam, police cars, ships and boats, Christmas holiday drawings. He even shows you how to make yours unique rather than a copy of his drawings. You can be the doodle hero of your classroom or office after using this book. He does it simply using very simple steps, lines, and basic shapes to start you off. My favorite in the series would be the Purple Book or the Green Book, then Orange, then the Red Book.
If you want to move up from here and learn the terminology of what you are doing, and really become an accomplished artist, the next step after these are the terrific books by Jack Hamm. If you just want to have some fun, get this book!

I think now we have all the Emberly drawing books and this one is far-and-away the toughest. Ed's son Michael, in particular, favors more complex drawings that will be harder for the youngsters to emulate, though older kids will probably appreciate the step-up after mastering the other books. (Even Ed's stuff largely seems tougher.)
Also, just so you know, this isn't a "red" drawing book like the green and orange: a wider variety of colors is used, and more subtly than in any of the other books, even the Animals book (which also uses color, but not to this degree).
I'd still recommend it, but more for 7 - 10 year olds.

When I was in the third grade this book came out in the Troll Book Order Club. (Now a part of Scholastic, if I'm not mistaken) I think it was all of $1.97.
It quickly became one of my favorites. The years went by, I buried it in a multitude of other children's books that I outgrew and proceded to forget about.
When I graduated college with my Elem. Ed. degree, I reclaimed all of my books from home and put them in my "professional" library. :)
Ten years later, I've never read this to a group of kids without them sitting on the edge of their seats. Waiting... Wondering what the prince will find...
It's always the most popular book in my classroom library.
I need to replace my original, actually, because it was loved so much it disappeared. ;)

Edgar Allen Poe (1809-49) is one of the most famous of American authors of mysterious and macabre stories, certainly the most famous 19th century one. The Masque of the Red Death was first published in 1842, and is rightly considered one of the greatest works of Gothic horror ever penned.
When the story begins, a strange and deadly plague is stalking the land. When the disease is contracted, the victim is dead within a half hour, bleeding from every pore, giving the ghastly disease its name, the "Red Death." The strange and demented Prince Prospero decides to defeat the disease by sequestering himself and a thousand courtiers in a sealed-off abbey, where they can lead a life of comfort, safety and sensuality. But, when the Prince throws a masquerade ball, there appears among the guests a figure dressed as one who died of the Red Death. Why is he dressed like that, and who is it beneath the costume?
I must say, it is easy to see why this is considered a classic of American literature, and why it is still such a popular read over 150 years after it first appeared! I found the story to be quite scary, in the older way, without recourse to blood and severed limbs, and keeps you glued to your chair reading it. I am now quite sorry that it took me so long to get around to reading this story, it's great, and I highly recommend it.
SPOILER BELOW:
By the way, there are those who see this story as something of an allegory, with the seven rooms of the prince's suite representing the journey of life, with the final, black room representing death. Prince Prospero (prosperity?) runs through life, finally meeting his end in the black room of death. Well, I don't know about that, but read it for yourself and see what you think!

The book The Masque of the Red Death is by Edgar Allan Poe. I thought this book was great. It is about a ghost that haunts a castle. All the people were scared and they could not escape the ghost. The "red death" killed many people. If you want to find out what happens you should read this book.

This book is not an attempt to sell dolls. This book does not follow a script making it sound like there has been only one girl in all of American history born over and over. It is an exciting adventure filled with danger. It is also painstakingly researched. The details presented are accurate. Learn what it was like being a young person during the revolutionary war. Follow Anne Brewster on her perilous mission.
Interestingly enough, as our country is being torn in two by red and blue states, this story of Loyalists to King George and Rebels for Freedom hits close to home. I don't think that is the story's intent. Just my added observation.

If you're in a California non-ABA approved law school and after about nine months you are completely burnt out with your text books then start studying these criminal law flash cards. In the first 100 cards it clarifies legal terms that extend to torts as well such as vicarious liabilty and these flash cards go on to explain the exact difference between proximate cause and cause in fact for both criminal law and torts as well. These flash cards are not as hard to study as text books but they are not a substitute for them either. If you are 1ls in an ABA approved law school then disregard this review and study whatever your law professor recommends.

"Ernst & Young Tax Guide 2007" is easy to use with many examples to follow when filling out the 1040 and subsequent forms. The 'white pages' gives you a draft view of each form which allows the user to see just where and how financial records are posted on the forms. This is a convenience so you don't have to go into the IRS website and bring up the form while reading directions or explanations from a large book held in your lap.
The blue information blocks give tips on saving taxes, organizing records to support deductions and problems to be aware of when claiming a specific deduction. The examples are simple and amounts are realistic for the average tax payer. They do not overwhelm the beginner who is opening and operating a new business.
This is an excellent guide to keep on your bottom shelf to use to plan your tax strategies and verify the records you are keeping are adequate. It makes no exaggerated promises which this reviewer finds refreshing.
Artists and authors are covered extensively under the section Self-Employed Entrepreneurs' Tax Guide, which is our major interest.

Some time ago, I purchased a set of 48 playing-card-sized cards painted by Susan Seddon Boulet. I've kept them by my computer and occasionally dip into the deck, pull one out, and see if the colorful painting in some way inspires me in my writing. Now, with his new "A Little Every Day Decks," creativity coach, writer, and psychologist Eric Maisel has given me an exciting new deck and a simple, easy-to-use program to spur creativity and inspiration. Each card contains a truth about creativity: "Grow creative by astonishing yourself" or "Grow creative by opening to serendipity," for instance. The point of focus on each card is book-ended by ideas about the truth and then an exercise that can be done to enhance or change one's experience and accessing of creativity.
In an introductory section, Maisel tells us, "You can read through the thirty cards in your deck, pick out the one that feels particularly resonant, and try the simple exercise the card suggests. You can use the cards as a thirty-day program, taking in one message a day....You can shuffle the cards, cut the deck and let a random (is it really random?) message speak directly to you." All of these are good ideas, and once you've gone through the deck, I have a hunch it will pay off to go through it again. And again.
I've been examining and pondering the meanings of the cards for a couple weeks now and have settled upon using one each day at random before I begin my writing. In just a little over two weeks, I find that each morning I am anticipating reading the next card. Often the idea contained within stays with me all day, firing me on to carry out my appointed tasks. The cards are not just for writers or artists but for anyone seeking to expand, explore, or open up channels of creativity. Highly recommended. ~Lori L. Lake, author of lesbian fiction and freelance reviewer for Midwest Book Review, Golden Crown Literary Society's "The Crown," The Independent Gay Writer, and Just About Write.com.

Whenever I sit down to work (I am a visual artist) with my coffee in the morning, I pull out one of the cards and read it. Then as the coffee smell fills the air, and the warm liquid fills my body - ahhh...I think about what the card is saying to me, and I get to work! A very nice way to start the day! Each little card makes me smile. (They are good for helping you to get out of a temporary rut, too.) One of life's simple pleasures. Try them, you will like them!

I have read many good books on praise and worship. However, I rate this one at the top of the list. It is very easy to comprehend and practical. The additional workbook and/or video can assist one better in teaching a class over a short period of time. There are lessons in the workbook with questions at the end of each chapter. I have taught from this book for years as my main resource and used other books and supplements. At any rate, it is excellent as a stand alone or with its other tools.

After more than a dozen years Exploring Worship remains the standard for many Bible colleges and fellowships all over the world, as a text of understanding the dynamics of the worship movement and how worship leaders, teams and pastors can relate with one another to usher the people of God into His presence. Exploring Worship, written right in the midst of the most significant period of time in church music since Charles Wesley, serves as a guide and practical tool to move the team from simply singing songs to encountering the presence of the Lord! For this reason, along with many others, we have chosen to use Exploring Worship and its companion workbook, as a primary text in our worship institute. If you were to read just one book on this subject, this should be the one! Exploring Worship is destined to be a classic in the Church.

This book is a fantastic way to take your tinkering to the realm of true Linux mastery. Christopher Negus has written some of the best comprehensive Linux guides on the market, but here he has slimmed down the advice into tried and true command line tips that -- once you've learned a few of them -- will have your boss singing your praises, and friends calling you for advice. This book is a very good desk side companion. This is not your typical "power users" book that is just a raw dump of a ton of esoteric commands that go in one eye and out the other. It is actually useful commands put into an understandable context, organized by classes of activity. I've been using Linux for many many years yet I'm learning, and using, new things from this book. I would highly recommend it.

This book is practically "perfect" (sorry if sounds exaggerated) for the following reasons:
1 In less than 260 pages (340 considering appendixes) quickly covers a wide and useful selection of topics
2 The text is updated to the latest improvements in EVERY subject
3 Very easy to read and follow with or without a computer at hand
4 Command line oriented
Let me explain:
1 From the Table of Contents you may see the book covers practically everything most users will need when using a Linux as Server or Desktop; that selection of subjects was really well calculated and provides with a mix that is rarelly found. Also, the "depth" for the provided information was carefully calibrated in order to show the most useful situations (by the way avoiding being boring with nerdy configurations)
The authors provide with a minimal and informal introducion to every subject, and next use a good selection of samples for illustration.
2 Surprisingly, all chapters were written taking into account a lot of "modern" improvements in distro/commands/kernel. Every old-Linux user may appreciate here the giant advances made by Linux to the point that practically every subject is now simple to manage (or at least not esoteric.)
3 As I have several years using Linux, most of the material presented was familiar (with a lot of "modern" surprises), but the organization and style did let me follow all the text without needing to test the examples or configurations in order to understand anything. At least for me, it is a big bonus.
4 99% of the recipes and examples apply to the command line (with some mentions to the graphical front-ends). This may be sad for new users, but very important for administrators or users that look for "maximum flexibility", or "task automation" or work in "server environments" where the GUI is not allowed or discouraged.

Hey folks... I've been an RHCE since 2000, training RHCEs since 2003, and "doing Linux" since 1996.
What I like:
The three big things that I like about Linux Toolbox are:
1) It concisely shows you how to use the Linux command line to solve many of the most common personal and administrative tasks.
2) It uses the proven "learn by doing" method to show the reader how to just "get stuff done" from the Linux command line.
3) What really sets this book apart from other "next level" type books is its well thought layout and how they organized the content in a quickly accessible way. Negus & Caen split the content out by Shell stuff, Working w/Files, Text Manipulation, Multimedia, Administration, Backups, Networking, etc.. . Well thought out and quickly useful as an on-hand reference.
So who should buy this book?
I see it being a "best fit" for two groups of people:
1) Technical users and admins who want to become more competent on the command line and be able to do ten times more work thought automation (scripting).
2) Windows power users who want to become more savvy on the Linux side (Linux power user wannabes). Especially those who need to get Linux CLI/shell proficient quickly (such as Windows sys-admins who have had Linux forced on them)
Old Timers Too:
The cool thing is that even if you've been using Linux for years (as I have), there are still useful "Oooo.. cool!" moments peppered throughout the book. Do you know how to properly (and quickly) get the most out of classic power tools like find, sed, awk, case, and tr? Are you armed with experience in all the newer über tools such as screen, dmidecode, growisofs? Do you know how to do software RAID from the command line (mdadm) or know how to build & control LVM via its command line tools? If you answered "no" to any of these.. you should check check out Linux Toolbox.
Negus and Caen have a winner here. Good job guys.

I was totally captivated by the pictures painted of the prairies and the characters in "A Fine Daughter". Each person was flawed in some small way, in other words, human. By the time I reached the end of the book I felt so involved with each character I couldn't bear to leave them behind. Loved it!

This book reconnected me to the prairies that I grew up in. The author's words joined pathways of memory that I had forgotten, she returned me to a childhood I had filed away as completed. I honor her for making me young again.

Catherine Simmons Niven gives us a view of people and their most intimate inner thoughts and views. Many people will read this novel and immediately marvel at the captured memory shared. It is through the author's truly original thoughts that we are exposed to the most simple and common acts that are enhanced and honoured in such an imaginative easy way. Her words slide out of her pen and into our hearts. I feel I am a better appreciator of life for having read this book and I look forward to listening for the creak of butterfly wings smelling the colour of the moon......
