Rihard Primack's Essentials of Conservation Biology was the the first textbook to present the fledgling field of conservation biology in a comprehennsive fashion. His Primer of Conservation Biology presents complex topics in a manner that makes this information accessible to a wider readership. The book covers a broad range of topics that includes an accounting of the origins and history of the field of conservation biology. The basic operating principles are offered with numerous examples of their application to real world problems. The author has chosen these examples from many different parts of the world so that all readers can relate to the practical approaches cited. This book serves as an excellent introductory text for readers that want a thorough introduction to conservation biology and access to the jargon of the field. I have recommended this book to students considering entering the field as well as to non-scientists that wish to become familiar with the basics of this new branch of science.

This is a story about spies, busty, lusty women and the middle east. Never a dull moment, full of intrigue, technology(of the day) and sex. A great novel to read on a long flight.

This is probably my favorite of the Animal Storybook series by Rebecca Johnson. The pelicans go out all day to hunt food, except one, who seems to have all the time in the world to preen himself....what is his secret to having all this time to preen instead of hunt? The use of live photography is just wonderful. My children really enjoy reading these books over and over again

Having spent many years of my life studying Sears Homes, I was delighted to see Rebecca's book "Putting Sears Homes on the Map" get published. There are about 10 pages of front matter in this book that give detailed, precise(and thank heavens, beautifully accurate) information on how to identify and authenticate Sears Homes in particular and kit homes in general. In addition to the words, Rebecca also provides pictures of actual stamped lumber to give the reader an idea of *what* they're looking for when they don the coveralls and slip into the crawlspace of their kit home.

The next part of the book has a thorough list of cities (gleaned from testimonials in Sears Modern Homes catalogs) where Sears Homes were known to exist. This list includes model names, year built, and original catalog images. It's cross referenced by city and by model.

I highly recommend this book. It's chocked full of good info, interesting tidbits and historically accurate content. Despite my own background in this topic, I was surprised (and delighted) by how much I learned reading "Putting Sears Homes on The Map."

This book is a story but more than that. It has puzzles on each page. In fact it has so manay different puzzles you can read it several times over and learn new things while you solve the puzzles. Each page has a puzzle or a maze or a question to answer or something to find. In addition there are lost items to find, and so on. It is a great book and lots of fun.

RABBITHEAD
by Rebecca Dart
($4.95, Alternative Comics)
Review by Mark Campos
This comic delivers on every promise anybody's ever made for comics as a potentially great storytelling medium.
Using a deceptively simple conceptual framework, it tells a story that no other medium could convey as effectively or as elegantly. It can't be reduced to mere text, couldn't be remade as a film. RabbitHead is straight-up comics (or "sequential narrative" if you want to go all McCloud on it), red in tooth and claw.

The narrative kicks off with a woman (whose head is a long-eared rabbit's) mourning at a graveside. She mounts her bizarre horse and rides off, stopping to spit; the spittle splits and becomes two beings, a leaping skeletal demon and a crawling cellular lump .. The central tier of narrative follows the rabbit adventurer, and as new characters are discovered, a new narrative tier splits mitoically from the main story, until there are seven separate stories happening simultaneously. Then the subplots, and characters, all fold back into the main plot by the tragic, mythic ending. You have to read the book seven times through to get all the details, and you will probably wind up rereading it several times more.

It'd be easy for this intricate structure to collapse right on its writer's head, but Rebecca ties each story together gracefully. So much drama and insight is conveyed without a single bit of text, which in itself is a high-wire act that succeeds splendidly. What makes this book wonderful, rather than a starchy academic exercise, is the world she creates: a disturbing, dreamlike ecosystem, where brief lives end in the jaws of strange predators. Rebecca doesn't flinch from depicting the horror of this world, but there are moments of giddy humor: a strange little pig eats a hallucinogenic parasite and trips his brains out in a long, funny sequence.

Rebecca Dart is a brilliant writer, an oncological fabulist. If RabbitHead doesn't propel her to near the top rank of current cartoonists .. then grits ain't groceries, hens ain't poultry, and Mona Lisa is a man.

JUST ABOUT!

The mystery moves kind of slow but the characters are really decent.
Sheriff Joe Mountain, a Native American, found his woman of mystery erupting out of a downpour on a dark and stormy night. "Rain" was a natural name to give to his Jane Doe.

As he tried to help find out who his "Rain" was the dead ends and frustrations piled up. And because of Joe's one excursion into a nasty marriage he refused to acknowledge his attraction to "Rain".

"Rain" was troubled by recurring nightmares and brief flashes of knowledge? She found herself feeling safe and secure when Joe was around and couldn't understand why he seemed to withdraw at times.

Joe's friend, Dr. Cruz Martinez, advised "Rain" to just let her memories happen. "Rain" as so sure that everything would turn out right if only she could find out who she was.

I had a few inklings but did not really figure out the true mystery until I read it. The answers were really intrigueing but seemed to have a few holes in the story but that is probably just the way I read it.
A very enjoyable story with a --M.

A delightful children's audiobook on compact disc

Rascal The Dragon is a delightful children's audiobook on compact disc. It's the story of a young boy who wishes he could have a dragon for a pet - to him, dragons are just like dogs, except they have dragonish features such as multiple heads or being able to fly. A treat for early readers, Rascal The Dragon contains three versions on its audio CD: an entertainment version with original music score, a readalong version with page turner prompts, and a version with narrator Rebecca Macauley's voice only. Tracks are sectioned every three minutes for easy bookmarking, in this delight to share with young people, by itself or along with the book form of the story. 1 CD, approx. 20 minutes.
