Gage Darnell's world was rocked by a chemical explosion. And he was supposed to be home for dinner.
His partner Brayden Sloane just disappeared after the explosion.
Gage and Wes Vanderhoven ended up in the same mental hospital, Beech Grove. Gage found himself in leather restraints and being given knock-out shots. It was a week before his mind cleared enough for him to start questioning what was happening. He felt like an 80 year-old-man instead of 32.
He was desperate to escape before anything happened -- he found that he had able to loosen the leather shackles and he finally found the physical strength to take off. The only one to see him leave was Tucker Hillman.
He bound and gaged the man and left him in a closet.
He had to find his wife Lily and save his marriage.
When he heard of Hillman's death he knew the cops were after him. He had left the man alive.
Hank Riddell worked for Cranesbrook Labs., why was he at Beech Grove. Was he a watch dog for Dr. Morton? Or Cranesbrook? Was Dr. Fredrick Morton being paid to hold Gage captive?
Would Randall McClellan and his partner, Richard Francis, a family man, get the proof that Gage had killed Hillman?
Officer Maxine Wallace, of the local police, felt that something about the murder scene was not right and told Rand so.
When Richard Francis got shot, Gage was blamed for that too.
What did Sid Edmonston, the Cranesbrook president, have to hide?
And what experiment was Nelson Ulrich conducting in Lab 7 when it blew?
Gage wondered what was happening to his mind. All he knew was that he couldn't get caught until he could prove he was not a murderer.
This is one of the best mystery trilogys that I have read.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - Hard to put down - have to keep reading just a little more to find the answers to the recurring questions. Would Gage get caught? Wow, no time for a breather.
#2 Critical Exposure by Ann Voss Peterson - Rand McClellan
#3 Triggered Response by Patricia Rosemoor - Bray Sloane

Collaboratively compiled and expertly co-edited by Neil Gilbert (Chernin Professor of Social Services and Social Welfare, University of California - Berkeley) and Rebecca A. Van Voorhis (Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology and Social Services, California State University - Hayward), Changing Patterns Of Social Protection is a scholarly selection of in-depth essays by learned authors concerning social welfare policies. These are governmental policies which have evolved over time and been rethought considerably amidst the aging of the population, changes in family structures, the tremendous forces of globalization, pressures from immigration, as well as other dynamic forces in the modern world. A thoughtful assessment of socioeconomic needs and influences, observing the necessity of creating balance between selfishness and necessity for benefits as well as the lessons of experience offered by various nations, Changing Patterns Of Social Protection is the ninth volume in the "International Social Security Series" and very highly recommended reading for students of contemporary economics and social welfare issues.

Taste of Rebellion

Children of Rebecca is the tale of Bethan and Sion whose travels take them through the class conflicts thrown up by the industrial revolution. It is set in the period of the Rebecca Riots and the Chartist led fight for the vote and against tyranny.
If, like me, you find it difficult to wade through historical text and at the same time remember what you've just read, then this is an excellent book to give you a well researched and very believable account of what life must have been like just after the birth of capitalism.
Through the story it explains the brutal conditions that drove labourers to the large industrial centres like Merthyr Tydfil only to find equal squalor. The book pays particular attention to what Victorian values were really like for the poorest women and the stark choices they faced.
I found the story gripping, making it a difficult book to put down. The novel rattles on at a cracking pace and fits a lot in without losing the sense of the story that it is telling.
The descriptions of the brutality of life are powerfully written, and are well balanced with the sense of rage that explodes when workers are fighting back. For instance, a passage where the anger is turned against a workhouse makes you want to be there.
The novel is not an analysis of the Chartist movement and does not attempt to argue whether the Chartists were revolutionary or reformist. It does, however, include an accurate account of the debates that occurred within the movement such as the moral force versus physical force arguments.
The reader is left with the clear picture that it was entirely justifiable that the Newport Rising took place and that an alliance with the Liberals would have achieved nothing. If you're looking for an enjoyable read and want to get a taste for what it must have been like to live through the rebellious 1830s and 40s, then you wouldn't go far wrong with this.

Do you believe in ghosts?
That's the question that Diana Christmas has been asking herself lately. It all started the night her grandfather, Sparky Christmas, died. On her way home from the hospital, Diana knew her mind was playing a trick on her when she saw a man sitting in the back of her car through the rearview mirror. Of course, no one was there. Yet, when Diana arrived home, she saw the same man in her bedroom and he introduced himself as Alex. Diana thought she was losing her mind due to the stress from the dying of her beloved grandfather. Not to mention inheriting the family's century old home - the Christmas House which Sparky was in the process of turning into a bed and breakfast before he died. Nevertheless, Alex continues to appear causing havoc on her libido. Diana tries to ignore him by dating a man she once went to school with; but somehow, Alex still manages to creep into her heart and soul. Can things possibly get any worse for Diana?
Christmas Spirit is a touching, fun-loving story that captured my heart right from the start and held me tightly intrigued until the very end. I was persistently turning from one page to the next eager to see what would happen as this wonderful story unfold. I found Diana to be an independent, yet vulnerable woman who was trying to hold onto her sanity by trying to form a relationship with a `live man", instead of living in a fantasy world with a ghost which led to her being taken advantage of on many occasions. On the flip side, Alex had great charisma. He was sexy as hell, witty and strong-willed. The storyline was very satisfying and exciting with a great deal of surprising drama going on. Both the main and secondary characters were great. Christmas Spirit had more of an old-fashion romantic flavor to it than erotic, so the faint of heart readers will definitely enjoy this book!

I first checked this book out from the local library and picked out a few recipes to try for Thanksgiving prior to the Christmas holiday parties. I also took it to my mother for her to look at. She began writing down page numbers of recipes she want copies of too. After trying several of the recipes, which for the most part, were very easy, I decided I wanted this book in my home for year round entertaining. The craft and decorating ideas are also wonderful. I especially liked the tomato cage Christmas trees. It was simple to make and when I showed my friends they couldn't believe it--you have to see the pictures in the book to appreciate how simple and elegant they are and so inexpensive to make. For your holiday entertaining I strongly recommend this beautiful book.

Church Dramas is an excellent tool for religious drama groups. The scripts are clean and simple. The dialog is tight and spare and work really well for 3-minute skits. The lines easy for churchmembers to memorize. There is a lot of variety in the kind of scripts included and contains lots more scripts than most other books of skits. Some are funny, some are serious, some are zany. We used "Automobile Repairs" and "Survival" at and hope to do more as the opportunity arises.

"A Circle of Quiet" chronicles the healing of sisters, who rise like two Phoenix birds from the ashes of emotional and physical abuse, sexual assault, pedophilia, rape, isolation, and abandonment through the death of their parents, grandparents, and elder sister while they are just young adults. One develops systemic lupus, the other stage-four cancer while in her second pregnancy. Yet both are symptom-free today, and one sister is a gifted Reiki Master.
This book is a page-turner detailing the mix of Reiki Energy Healing, macrobiotic diet, meditation, massage therapy, etc. which the sisters combined with allopathic medicine to snatch the wellness of one from the jaws of crippling illness and wellness of the other from almost-certain death. An uplifting must-read for anyone in need of a formula for healing and for everyone who believes that we are what we think.
