I have read both of these stories and I love omnibus editions. It makes it so much easier to catch up on the whole series. This one contains the first 2 books of the Moon series by Rebecca York.

The first book is one of my favorites and introduces Ross Marshall, a werewolf and a detective. The second book focuses on his friend, Jack, a cop. No werewolves, but a wonderful love story nonetheless.

The Moon series is a wonderful set of books that begins with these two.

Great!

"Full Moon" is an omnibus edition that contains "Killing Moon" and "Edge of the Moon." I have been a fan of "monster" books since I was about 10; the werewolf type presented in these books is not unique (why do so many writers decide that for some reason the werewolf "gene" is deadly to girls? Scientifically girl babies are MORE robust, not less . . . *shrug*), but the overall story and world created in these books are quite interesting.

"Killing Moon": Ross Marshall is the latest in a line of werewolves descended from a single forebear - apparently around the time of the druids - who dared to ask the gods for a gift . . . although that gift was granted, it comes with a price; baby girls are stillborn and many of the boys die when they are teens and first try to transform. Ross is a bachelor and determined to stay that way, as he is afraid he will turn out to be like his father - a very cruel man - as well as afraid to even try to have children. However, he is also curious if, genetically, anything can be done. So, he calls a genetic testing lab and asks for someone to come out and test his blood. Dr. Megan Sheridan is sent. It is love at first sight (of course).

Wrapped around their love story is Ross' attempt to bring a serial killer to justice (he works as a PI). Also, his friend - Detective Jack Thornton - has become suspicious about Ross' involvement in the death of a serial killer 5 years ago.

Overall, this was really a good book. Lots of thrills and chills and the dynamic tension between the romantic leads was well done - in a REALISTIC manner, rather than the typical romance novel approach, which is to have the two romantic partners dislike each other for no good reason until toward the end of the book where they subsequently fall in love for no apparent reason as well. For fans of paranormal romance action thrillers with a twist, you'll like this one!

With "Edge of the Moon" - her follow-up to "Killing Moon" - Rebecca York continues her exploration of the world she has created and expands upon it. The main focus in this book is on Detective Jack Thornton and a beautiful woman who reported her roommate missing - which roommate is later found dead, killed by a vicious serial murderer who is now focused on Jack's new-found love. I hate to say more so as to avoid ruining the suspense, so I'll leave it at that - just add my accolades. I plan to keep going on this series as I can. It is terrific.

KILLING MOON
- In KILLING MOON private investigator Ross Maxwell has been hired to search for a missing woman. Ross' unique skill to track and find people is a secret he guards closely, for he has been both blessed and cursed with the ability to shape shift into a wolf. In his wolf shape he discovers her body along with evidence that suggests the murderer is a serial killer. When the killer comes upon Ross in his wolf form he is shot while escaping. Wounded, Ross was able to shape shift back to human form and return to his home where Dr. Megan Sheridan, a genetic research scientist sent from the lab he had contacted days before, finds him unconscious. Mesmerized by the beautiful naked man, Megan cleans his wounds and when he regains consciousness their mutual attraction is intense. Ross knows that wolves mate for life and yet he knows he must fight the attraction. He is well aware of the heartache of involving a woman in his life; not only the horror of her discovering his true condition but of the danger of the serial killer who is now tracking him.

*** This first novel had a marvelously intense suspense plot as well as a wonderfully sensual aspect featuring two very emotionally wounded lead characters. Ross and Megan each had very difficult childhood backgrounds that the author used to capitalize on in defining their characterizations. The author did a marvelous job of crafting Ross and her description of the transformation back and forth of man to beast was brilliantly done. This was a fast paced action tale with a perfect balance of secondary characters to carry and add depth to this highly engrossing read. What a marvelous beginning to ensnare the reader in wanting to continue with this `Moon' trilogy.

EDGE OF THE MOON
- If I thought the first novel, KILLING MOON, in this duo was exciting and terrific I can now only think of it as an `appetizer' for this second book that combines a powerful police procedural with a very dark paranormal fantasy. This one definitely had me on the edge of my seat and biting my nails!

Although you will again revisit some of the characters from the first novel, the story is centered on Jack Thornton, a Montgomery County, Maryland police detective. Assigned to check out a missing persons report of a young woman, Jack meets her very beautiful landlady, graphic designer Kathryn Reynolds. Their initial meeting is powerful, as if time stood still (which it does) while each took one another's measure. Obviously something otherworldly was going on and as they would both discover, something dark and very dangerous. As Jack's investigation led them on a rather erotic path with shared dreams, and more otherworldly events, they both came to realize that they were being manipulated by a very dark presence that was using them to thwart a serial killer madman's scheme to become an unholy power. The chase became intimately personal when Jack and Kathryn joined forces to prevent the killer from securing Kathryn as his final victim in his sacrificial ceremony.

*** Wow, talk about thrills and chills the reader will find themselves completely caught up in this second offering of York's ` Moon' trilogy. Being introduced to Jack in the first of the two novels I liked him for extending his friendship to Ross and Megan, but here in his own (stand-alone) story you will love him. Jack and Kathryn are like two puppets with the lesser of two evils pulling their strings. With each bizarre event and dream they became more tightly ensnared in things neither could control, including a very intense and very stimulating sexual attraction. It's written beautifully with originality, thrills and chills, engaging multi-dimensional characters, excitement and a superb romance. Rebecca York has definitely landed on my auto-buy list and keeper shelf! This is definitely a book I most highly recommend - two superb novels in one great book!

"Edge of the Moon". Montgomery County, Maryland detective Jack Thornton works three missing people case where he believes homicides have occurred. Graphic designer Kathryn Reynolds calls the police because her tenant Heather DeYoung has not returned home in a few days. When Jack and Kathryn see each other for the first time, neither can breathe. Meanwhile Simon Gwynn uses many aliases and houses to incarcerate his prisoners until he is ready to sacrifice them in an ancient ritual that will soon enable him to control the energy essence Ayindral. He believes Kathryn is the key offering. Readers will enjoy this paranormal romantic suspense that deftly combines fantasy with a police procedural wrapped inside a romance.

"Killing Moon". Private Investigator Ross Maxwell seeks evidence against human predator serial killer Donald Arnott. Ross shifts shape into a wolf and passes through a perimeter breach he created on Donald's property. However, Donald sees and shoots Ross, who escapes. The next day genetic research scientist Megan Sheridan of Bio Gen Labs visits her client Ross at his home to do a work up on him. She finds him feverish from his wound so she cleans the wound, provides the antibiotic that he happens to need, and puts on fresh bandages. As he heals Ross worries because he knows Arnott stalks him, the Montgomery County, Maryland police suspect him in a murder investigation, and the CEO of Megan's company is acting strange. Still, Ross is angriest with Megan for not fleeing from him because wolves mate for life. Using the premise that lycanthropy is a genetic disorder, KILLING MOON is a delightful supernatural private investigator romance starring two charming lead characters.

These are two delightful paranormal romantic mysteries.

"Gypsy Magic" is one of the very best anthologies of its type to come along in a long while. Rebecca York, Ann Voss Peterson and Patricia Rosemoor tell three stories so seamlessly it's like reading one story in three parts.

Ten years earlier, a Gypsy was railroaded into a murder conviction. As revenge, his mother cursed the sons of the three men responsible. The three younger men have all felt the effects of the curse. Now, with the Gypsy scheduled to be executed, can they prove his innocence before it's too late?

The main couple in Rebecca York's "Alessandra," Wyatt Boudreaux and Alessandra King, were once in love. Then she learned his police chief father helped send her cousin to death row. They are reunited years later. They're still on opposite sides of the case, and now Wyatt is blind because of her aunt's curse. Garner Rousseau, the son of the DA who convicted the Gypsy youth, has also experienced the pain of the curse. In Ann Voss Peterson story, he joins together with another of the man's cousins, "Sabina" King. He knows his father wasn't always ethical. He doesn't know if he can open his heart to the beautiful Sabina. Patricia Rosemoor finishes the set in "Andrei." Can the title hero and the murdered woman's daughter find the killer before they become the next victims?

"Gypsy Magic" is the best of the Harlequin anthologies like this I've read. Others like "Night and Day" and "Final Approach to Forever" have had problems keeping the same voice for the characters with the authors? different writing styles. In "Gypsy Magic," the three authors do an excellent job matching their styles and voices to make the stories flow together. "Gypsy Magic" is so much better constructed than the earlier Intrigue anthology "Bayou Blood Brothers" I wish I could go back and lower my rating for that one. The stories are all equally strong and do a good job advancing the overall storyline while telling each couple's story. The authors don't miss a step dropping clues that will come in useful in another story. It takes skill for one author to pull a story like this off and keep everything straight, not to mention three.

"Gypsy Magic" is one of the best Intrigues this year.

Valonia has cursed the sons of the men who railroaded her son, Carlo Mustov into prison for the murder of his lover, Theresa Granville.

Andrei Sobatka, one of their own, received the curse of "The law is impotent". [poor guy]
He is the cousin of Alessandra and Sabina King, and the product of marriage of a gypsy and an outsider. He has returned to the carnival to work for Milo Vasilli, he runs the Tilt-a-twirl [where he almost gets killed].
He has decided to help his cousins save Carlo and meets up, once again, with Elizabeth Granville, who had given herself to him ten years before.

Now he is hiding out with the carnival to hide his shame, figuring he could gain "Lizzie's" help, as he suspected her father of murdering his own wife.

Now they are in danger and another cousin, Tony has disappeared -- would the attempted murders never stop?

Running lose throughout the carnival is Milo's daughter, Florica, who confuses everyone with her childlike mentality.

Andrei and Elizabeth finally find the murder weapon with ten year old blood still on it. Elizabeth soon learns of Andrei's hidden powers and her own love for him is strengthened as the danger persists.

The cover is neat and representative of the men and the epilogue is great. [I always look forward to these]

Definitely recommended --M -- story moves great, especially through three authors. Just too much pm.s.[grin]

Valonia, a gypsy, cursed the sons of the men who sent her son, Carlo Mustov to prison for killing his lover, Theresa Granville.

The curse for Garner Rousseax was "Love is death".

Sabina King, sister to Alessandra, has the gift of healing. After Wyatt ends up in the hospital, Sabina is determined to seek out Claude Rousseax, to enlist his help to clear Carlo, only to find that he has died. So she approaches his son, Garner.

Now they have become the target of a killer. It becomes more confusing as they eliminate the suspects. Leon Thibault, the district attorney, warned them that they should leave well enough alone - they had no new evidence.

Fascinating as we follow them through their troubles...

This book is definitely recommended -- follow these three couples as they try to save Carlo and definitely end up falling in love with a little hanky panky thrown in.

GYPSY MAGIC carries us through 3 couples stories following a Romny curse. "Justice is Blind" - the curse of Wyatt Boudreaux -- "Love is Death" - the curse of Garner Rousseau -- "The law is impotent" - the curse of Andrei Sobatka, one of their own.

Some of the gypsies had certain powers -- Valonia, the mother of Carlo cursed the sons of the men responsible for sending Carlo to prison for killing a gadje, Theresa Granville, the wife of the Mayer of Les Baux. Louisiana.

Carlo has spent 10 years on death row. Now his time is coming to an end.

Milo Vasilli, the owner of the carnival, has brought the troop back to Les Baux. Allessandra, adopted neice of Valonia, hopes to uncover new evidence to clear Carlo and end Valonia's despair. Her gift is she "sees" things.
She must approach Louis Boudreaux, only to find out that he has just died - she meets up with Wyatt, Louis's son and her one time lover only to find that he has been blinded five years before.
There are several attempts on hers and Wyatt's life as they make it known that they are trying to save Carlo. Someone wants to stop them and wants them dead.

Most Excellent mystery to follow - well written and coheasive -- follow this group.

A great way to chronicle the wonderful occasions of your life. Had a combination holiday/birthday family event recently and grabbed the Happenings book and my camera. Set up a family photo and then passed the book around for all to sign and share. What a keepsake...comments ranged from the comical teenage version to the wise 82 year old grandmotherly quote. A great way to celebrate the people and occasions of your life! Wish I'd had this years ago. Melissa

this early America romance is just about perfect. It has all the elements of a great romance-adventure, romance, comedy, great dialogue and steamy love scenes. This is one of the funniest romances I've read.

If you love plucky, unusual heroines , you'll love Theodosia! Paisley was realistic in the fact that Theodosia is a genius-but has no life experiences or common sense (I personally know several folks like this:)). Roman is a fantastic hero. One part tortured hero, one part alpha male, and one part sweet, funny everyman.

If you've never read Rebecca Paisley-this is a good book to start with.

Glad to read it-it got me out of a streak of really bad books and renewed my reading interest.

This book, although marketed to women, has many things that men can also use as they climb the organizational ladder. Becky Shambaugh stresses the importance of first knowing yourself and then deciding what it is that you want. She peppers the book with many effective personal and professional anecdotes and stories to punctuate her points. This is more than a book. It is a manual for turning your professional life around. The "Sticky Floor" metaphor is a powerful reframe that changes the context of what it is that prevents us from moving up. Barriers are not imposed by anyone except us. Shambaugh does a masterful job of guiding us to put on a new pair of Teflon shoes - non-stick shoes that only we can create for ourselves.

For a change, practical insight with action steps to take to "un-stick" oneself. It's about time we take a hard look at what holds us back (usually ourselves). Shambaugh's style makes this a read a breeze. Shambaugh takes time to provide excellent examples from real life. If you don't read any other business book this year (or next)...You should read this one. Rare to find a book centered on leadership development that focuses on action women can take to make a big difference; not just restating the obvious.

This is a remarkable book. Steve Kovach presents a touching account of his premature daughter's birth and early life. Along the way, he recounts numerous anecdotes of his family's life. Steve has a remarkable attention to detail. Many times throughout the book, I was transported to time and place of the events in a way that seemed like I was an actual participant. There's a particularly poignant story of a simple hike that Steve and his other two children took in the countryside. It was written in a way that made me wish I had shared the day with them. Even months after reading the book, I still recall this detail. Highly recommended.

Anticipating the arrival of a baby is perhaps one of life's most treasured experiences -- for the young and old alike. Rebecca Bond captures the essence of the experience with captivating illustrations and a precious story of the whole extended family pitching in to make the baby's arrival a special one. I have taken to buying this book for the preschoolers in my life who are expecting a little brother or sister. This is the book my daughter, age 5, asks me to read to her more than any other. She and I are also enchanted with Ms. Bond's other two children's books. She is a relatively new author (with this being her first book), but I have a feeling (and I sure hope) we will be seeing much more of her writing in the years to come.

With this book of poems you can smack your lips with the tangy sweetness of taste, sound, touch and remember. JELLYFISH touches my memory with clear pictures of a child at the shore. These verses remind me of Jane Yolen's COLOR ME A RHYME, and my own ANIMAL ACADEMY, with its playfulness and spontaneity.

Jan Spivey Gilchrist's impressionistic illustrations capture the imagery of poet Rebecca Kai Dotlich's carefree summer. You'll lick your lips after drinking in LEMONADE, hold your ears as FIREWORKS explodes off the page and you'll feel your toes wiggle as BAREFOOT tickles your feet in the new grass. What a refreshing way to wind down a funfilled summer day!

As the summer days get busier and my 21 month old daughter pushes her energies, I welcome the moment that we reach for this lovely book and she soaks deeper into my arms. This is the perfect unwinding book as it takes you on a dancing journey through summer days and then retreats you into the night. The creative use of words in poetry will grasp your attention and allow you some freedom of expression to excite and/or relax your little one. The illustrations are a beautiful and refreshing addition which alone allows for some parental freedom as well. You'll see what I mean when you get started with your own Lemonade Sun. My daughter is captivated for the entire book. This one always works for bedtime at our house. I am now a true fan of Rebecca Kai Dotlich and look forward to her next work.

This book took me back to my childhood and sweet memories.

Lemonade Sun reminded me of my own childhood; I too, grew up in the fifties. It brought back so many memories. I could almost smell the fireflies that we collected in glass jars, and the thrill of being able to do double-dutch longer than the other kids. The lemonade stands, bubbles, dragonflies and jacks are all dear to me. It certainly is a book that children will love, and adults will cherish. My personal favorite is Summer Swinging. The illustrations are incredible! It is truly a fun book for all ages.

What an important new book! The editors--pathmaking and wise lesbian rabbis themselves--have compiled an impressive collection. Understanding the special contributions and journeys of lesbian rabbis enriches immeasurably our knowledge of contemporary Jewish life and the contemporary rabbinate--and the possibilities in both.

This book is an important part of the historical record documenting Jewish experience--particularly the experience of contemporary Jewish women. The rabbis who contributed essays tell incredible stories. I found them truly inspirational! As lesbians, some of these individuals risked being thrown out of rabbinical school and being fired from their jobs as rabbis. Several paid an extremely high price for their honesty. Others have experienced tremendous welcoming in the the Jewish communities where they function as rabbis. The writers are Reform, Conservative and Reconstructionist, and they were ordained in the 70s, 80s and 90s so when you read the whole book you really get a sense of how things have been changing for lesbian and gay rabbis. I recommend the read!

And by "long overdue" I am NOT referring to how long I have had this out of the Redwood City library! The authors take a very controversial stance throughout this book, risking their positions while assuming all sorts of positions, if you know what I mean. It was inevitable that this book would be written --I have been following its progress all along. Though I am not a lesbian and am not sure if I could ever be, I do know that if I was a lesbian and believed in Judiasm (which I don't, by the way) I only wish I could handle my faith and my sexual preferences as well as the authors. Kudos to them and kudos to all of you who will buy this book! It is truly a fantastic ride. Or read.

The Warmth and Beauty of Our Lesbian Rabbis

A generation ago, the idea of a woman rabbi would have been unthinkable. Today, we have an entire group of not just women but lesbian rabbis who have become some of the most respected rabbis of our generation. As this book proves, they serve the Jewish community in a number of ways. Bringing disenfranchised Jews into creative, new synagoues, serving traditional congregations and working in a variety of fields helping Jews in ways only rabbis can.

The group of eighteen women who contributed to this book are pioneers in one sense but simply doing a traditional job that has evolved over several thousand years. The Library of Congress created a new category just for this book, but this is also a very traditional work. Exploring the role of the rabbi and how each individual has struggled to serve her community is a very traditional role for a rabbi.

The eighteen pieces included are personal and meaningful. The warmth of many of the women whom I know shines through in their work. The beauty and spirit of Judaism is alive in this first generation of Lesbian Rabbis.
