I'm not sure of the title of the book but it was made into a made for TV movie. It was on ABC, NBC, or CBS about 1983. It was about a women who was not attractive but was rich, a man courted her for her money but was secretly seeing her cousin. He married the unattractive one and they went to a kind of swamp for their honeymoon and he pushed her overboard, where a huge crocodile got her and really messed up her face. She was found on the shore by a native, who took her to the Dr. who was a plastic surgeon back in the states. He does surgery on her over a period of months and she goes back. It was a 2 part movie on TV and I only got to see the first part and have been looking for the book it was based on since then.

FIRST COMES LOVE...

He'd been the love of Claire Dent's life. But when her childhood sweetheart left for the big city, her dreams of happily ever after vanished like a rainbow after a storm. She'd built a good life in her hometown and she refused to be affected by the return of a now rich and powerful Hunter Starnes - no matter how heartbreakingly gorgeous he was.

THEN COMES MARRIAGE?

Twelve years had changed Hunter. He'd once run from his small-town roots and his love for Claire. But he was no longer the kind of man who ran from what he wanted. And Claire was no longer a young girl who believed in the magic of rainbows. She was an alluring woman who deserved the real deal - a ring and a promise and a family. But could the man who had stolen her dreams be the one to offer her everything?

Hollywood History - The Golden Age

Review Date: 2006-11-26
It seems James Parish churns out far too many books. However, his series of books dealing with films and stars of the Golden period of Hollywood are absolutely indispensible for movie buffs.

Anyone old enough to remember the old (now defunct) film magazine, ''Films in Review'', will recall the magazine's monthly career article on stars which covered their films in detail. The article was followed by a filmography and many photos.

The RKO Gals is in similar vein. It covers the careers of female stars (under contract at one time) to RKO studio - stars like Ann Harding, Constance Bennett, Irene Dunne, Ginger Rogers, Katharine Hepburn, Anne Shirley, Lucille Ball, Joan Fontaine, Wendy Barrie, Lupe Velez, Maureen O'Hara, Jane Russell, Barbara Hale and Jane Greer. The great thing about this book is that all of the stars' films are covered in detail along with details about their personal lives (each chapter is like a mini book). At the end is a detailed filmography and a section on photos.

Anyone interested in old stars should immediately add this great book to their library.

Sleepers awake! Those whose minds have been benumbed by modern civilization need to awaken and grasp the Important fact that trees play an integral part in our life. Mr. Altman brings such issues into clear and sharp focus. Consider how much trees have shaped our civilization, how much it is part of our daily life, how much trees contribute to our quality of life, Fall on your knees and thank the Creator for such a gift.! Clearly humans too are an integral part of nature and this book clearly highlights this fact. This book and his other book "Sacred Water" make ideal companion volumes and could be read sucessively and then a true panoramic view of the gifts of nature can be gleaned, This is definitely worth buying and reading numerous times.

This is a nice collection of tales- an innovative approach to touch your unconscious level.
These are not stories to entertain you; they are not for speed reades; Not for those who look ROI in terms of infomational or monetory gains. This book and its tales are useful when you read every word and visualize it. You need to be able to travel with every word and the tales will somehow connect you. They can be used to deal with everyday life issues with your loved ones.

Author is a psychologist and have done a nice job in trying to touch you underneath your skin- at the level most books not reach.

Great work, Dr. Mary Jayne Collins.
This can be a nice book for giving as a gift.

Manatee Bologna!

Manatees are very cute and they are always fun to enjoy in classic literature. "Sam the Sea Cow" is no exception. Francine Jacobs and Laura Kelly combine to create a powerful and moving adventure into the underwater world of the manatees. From the adorable beginning to heart-wrenching tragedy all the way to the poignant ending, "Sam the Sea Cow" is a treat for any manatee devotee. "Above and beyond five stars!" raved Chessie. "Beautiful and touching," gushed Temba and Colossate. But this book can best be described in the words of Sam the Sea Cow himself: "Very manatee."

A Powerful Tale of the Journey of a Sacred Romance!
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2006-07-20
I was glued to the pages of this book the entire way through! The chapters alter between the different character's perspectives, reflecting a wide array of emotions, thoughts, and views that draws you in and envelopes you into their journeys. It is a story about friendship. The odd personality types that somehow click and cling true to each other through changes and hardship. And how even the best of friendship alone is not enough. It is a story about family, connections, miscommunications, the gains and losses and regaining the strength to hold together and reunite despite a world of differences. It's a love story, about finding true love and about all of the heartbreaks and tattered dreams of a past streaked with false hopes and substitutes for the real thing. Most of all, it is a glorious romance about the lengths our Creator will go through to reach even the most stubborn and wayward heart. His tenderness and patience. His provisions and His advances. His acceptance and His healing. And the fulfillment of embracing His invitation. The book is so full of raw, honest truth--thoughts and feelings that are so personal, yet so universal that you feel at once akin to the characters. The simple but desperate situations that make-up the realm of every-day living. It strikes to your inner core and you really care about where the journey ends, because ultimately in one way or another, it is your journey as well.

A book to keep forever!

This is the most amazing book! In a world where so many people rely on material possessions to make them happy, this book displays that happiness is in your heart and not in dollars and possessions. A person doesn't need to have the most "things" or live in the biggest house or have the most expensive car to be happy. One needs to be comfortable and at peace with themself to be happy. I have to say this is my most favorite children's book. I have purchased it for our school library and given it for many gifts. It is one to keep for a lifetime!

Witches and Snakes and the Power of God!

Review Date: 2005-12-02
Since I was a teenager, I've loved mysteries, especially when it is clear that good wins out over evil! If you have the same feelings and are in the teen years or already retired, you'll enjoy Serwich by John Mayne.

Jim Masters, just 22, on leaving the service and his military policy role, returns to Sandtrap, Colorado, his hometown. Already thinking about his application to the FBI and his future, he nevertheless is looking forward to some time at home with his family. And meeting Jenny, a beautiful young girl riding on the same train home to a neighboring town, is an added pleasure.

You have already guessed that Jim is the good guy, the star, the main character of this mystery. I don't think it is telling too much, however, to say that this young man has also been chosen by God--and throughout the story, his dreams and his growing commitment to God, prepare him as he works to solve the mystery.

For there in Jim's hometown, people, as well as hometown pets are disappearing. And, even while Jim is enjoying the "welcome home" celebrations with his family, friends, and church, he is drawn more and more into assisting with the sheriff's investigation.

Slowly, he works through the various stories of when a young couple or the old man had last been seen and realizes that an old quarry may play a part in the mystery. Deciding to tour the area, he climbs a fire tower and there spots nothing but some cows in the distant. Thinking his trip a waste, he starts to leave when he suddenly wonders whose cows are in the area! Finding his way to where he thought they had been, he is confronted by three women in long black dresses and large walking sticks, who accuse him of trespassing, and will not allow him to continue on...to Serwich...

He dreams--of little children running around in the woods screaming. He tries to find them to help...there is a smell, overpowering, awful. But he never finds the children. He awakes; it's 3.33 AM.

Jim's best friend also joins the investigation, but he never returns from his first trip into the quarry area. Hoping to find him, Jim goes back to the area, where he discovers a large group of women dancing around a fire. Are they really witches, as his research has begun to reveal? As he watches from a hillside, a terrible smell, a pungent, musty odor that he has never smelled before, becomes more and more apparent. Turning, he sees a huge snake moving toward him! Moving quickly he shoots the snake, but another bites him, and he doesn't see the dark figure hit him with a shovel.

Waking, he finds himself captured. Yes, witches have captured him! Yes, giant snakes explain the disappearances that have occurred. Will Jim be sacrificed like the others? And why is Jenny, his beautiful friend, there--to help him escape or is she a witch also? Remember, this mystery tells about good over evil! What is found there in Serwich is supernatural--revealing the awesome power of God!

Plan to visit Serwich on an early Saturday morning--because you won't want to stop reading until you find out what happens there!
