BACK COVER: Perri has four growing boys who need a father-and, Lord knows, she needs a husband. But Perri knows that Mitch won't be able to handle the chaos of living in such a bustling household. To Mitch, such a sacrifice would grow old faster than her boys! But there's a bigger reason why Perri can't marry Mitch: He doesn't love the Lord the way she does. Mitch has never given his life to Christ as his Lord and Savior. Perri know she's in love with Mitch. But God comes first in her life, even when the darkest storms are on the horizon-and no promise of tomorrow's rainbow.
MY REVIEW: This book is well written and one of my favorite Heartsong Presents stories. I enjoyed the tender romance and the growing process the people go through is real. I would give it more stars if I could.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was hard to put down once I started it. This book helped me to put myself in the shoes of a gay person. I've always believed that gay people do not choose to be gay. It also offers resources for gay people who are struggling with their identity. Great book!

Gail Donovan has brought new wit and verve to the Rainbow Fish
series with this delightful book! My young son and I both
enjoyed the humor and drama of this undersea glimpse into a
'school' of fish and other sea creatures who reveal their
personalities-- familiar to anyone who's ever been to any
sort of school!-- through a wittily rendered session of
Show and Tell. Donovan's gentle humor and perfect ear for
both 'teacher-speak' and genuine kid voices make this book
one that can truly be enjoyed by both young readers and their
parents. I hope Donovan will continue to make Rainbow Fish
shine!

Beauties from the Golden Age of Hollywood

It seems James Parish churns out far too many books. However, his series of books dealing with films and stars of the Golden period of Hollywood are absolutely indispensible for movie buffs.
Anyone old enough to remember the old (now defunct) film magazine, ''Films in Review'', will recall the magazine's monthly career article on stars which covered their films in detail. The article was followed by a filmography and many photos.
The Hollywood Beauties is in similar vein. It covers the careers of female stars renowned for their beauty - stars like Dolores Del Rio, Kay Francis, Ava Gardner, Jean Harlow, Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor and Lana Turner.
The great thing about this book is that all of the stars' films are covered in detail along with details about their personal lives (each chapter is like a mini book). At the end is a detailed filmography and a section on photos.
Anyone interested in old stars should immediately add this great book to their library.

This book should be in every Pre-code and early Hollywoood film buff's library. Want to know about Helen Chandler, Donald Cook, James Dunn, Sally Eilers and Mitzi Green? How about Kay Johnson, Chester Morris, Roger Pryor, Lee Tracy, and Helen Twelvetrees? Covers the careers and bios of 71 stars of the 1930's, some forgotten, some famous. Although this book was written before the term "Pre-code Hollywood" became widely used, it includes many of that era's key players. It even has a chapter on "Skeets" Gallagher!

Our son started kindergarten able to (very slowly) sound out words like "cat". We tried the Bob books, but it just wasn't clicking for him. So we went ahead and bought this (HOP learn to read--not the deluxe edition)--sort of figured it couldn't hurt and might help a little.
Now, he is not what I would call an eager learner. Getting him to sit down to do the first lesson wasn't the easiest thing in the world. However, after that very first lesson, it "clicked"--and literally, within two weeks, he was reading just about every short vowel, three letter word you can imagine. More importantly, he LOVES this program and asked to do it almost every day. He zipped through the kindergarten level in about 3 months and *begged* to start the 1st grade level. We started that one in January, and he is now (three months later) about 1/3 of the way through the second grade level. We just had conferences with his teacher and she is *so* impressed with his reading skills. She actually said, "Wow!" and estimates he is at a late first-, early second grade level.
Now, all that being said, I did not rely 100% on this system to reinforce what he was learning. I bought the Nora Gaydos level 1's and 2's (he likes them SO much better than the Bob books--and so do I!) and I think that is necessary with *any* reading program. HOP gives you good books, don't get me wrong, but my son had them memorized in record time. So I would highly, highly recommend the Nora Gaydos books (or Bob books) in addition to any of the HOP reading sets because beginning readers need lots of practice. And, the Nora Gaydos books are awfully cute and often are quite funny, so he loved getting those out to practice (usually he reads one to us each night as part of the reading routine).
I cannot overstate how much my son loves this program--when he saw the "Hooked on Math" program (at a local store), he flipped out and asked to put it on his Christmas wish list. For his 6th birthday, he's asked for more HOP reading levels--again, this is from a child that was not an eager learner. This program is fantastic--his confidence is constantly reinforced (he loves putting stickers on the charts). There were a couple times when he got frustrated--some of the "review word" pages are a bit overwhelming. I just picked out a few words and had him read those, then we moved on.
Oh! And there's no marking in any of the HOP books (even math! they use a wipe off sheet), so you can pass them on to younger siblings--you can order replacement stickers and posters from the HOP website for under $10.
So there you have it--all the ups, downs, and in-betweens (from our experiences, anyway!). :)

This is a wonderful children's book that tells the story of how rainbows are created. A beautiful folktale that presents all the colors of the rainbow (even the often forgotten indigo). A wonderful way to start a lesson about rainbows.

I read this entire book before putting it down. It was creative, imaginative, suspenseful, entertaining and cleverally written through-out.
I purchased another copy as a gift to my ten year old granddaughter. She will love it. I recommend it for children and adults alike.
