Passionate, sensuous love story with a "You Are There" quality

I knew Coni Foster when she was a (superb) nurse at the rehab hospital where I worked. I bought this book to show my love and support for her amazing life, but I had no idea it would be so good! She has an amazing ability to make you see what she is seeing and feel what she is feeling, from the heat of Africa to the exoticism of Istanbul to the coziness of Scotland. Leaving home as a young girl after the tragic death of her mother and a breakup with her "love" (she does not use his name until the very end of the book), she searches for something--love, experience, various "highs"--that will make her forget the past; something to lead her on into the future. She is a hopeless Romantic, in the true sense of the word; there is a "fated" quality about her search that makes you believe, as she does, that somewhere out there, true love is waiting for her. And guess what-- it is.
I will recommend this book to reading friends who like travel, romance and a sexy, dream-like quality to good prose.

Say hello to yourself and other pleasers you know through this book filled with insights. Pleasing others is not necessarily a bad thing unless the price is sacrifice of self. Learn how to avoid the pitfalls of too much pleasing, how that phenomena is shaped by past experiences, and how to form relationships that are more satisfying. The author is adept at presenting personal experiences and the experiences of those with whom she has worked to illustrate the down side of pleasing and how changing behavior can result in a more fulfilling life. I highly recommend this book as a mechanism for developing insight and making necessary changes. Dr. Dianne Garner

With this wonderful book, it will help you learn how to move forward, despite the fear you have or have been living. One thing that I have learned is that if you were NOT moving out of your old (perhaps unhappy) comfort zone, you would not be feeling fear, and facing the fear you have been living!

I love this book. It is empowering, easy to read, apply and understand, and will make a wonderful difference in your life.It will help you take positive steps that move your life in the most positive direction possible.

Q.T. Pie wakes up to discover it is a beautiful day outside and cannot wait to go and play. Being a responsible little girl, she does all of the things she has to do before going out to play only to discover it is cloudy outside. When her mother calls her inside from the rain, Q.T. is disappointed, that is until her mother teaches her all about rainbows. Will Q.T. be able to catch a rainbow after the rain? You will have to pick up a copy of this book to find out.

With vibrant illustrations and easy to read language this is a book that young readers will enjoy. Parents will enjoy the fact that every Q.T. Pie book includes "Challenging Words," these are words that young readers may not be familiar with. At the end of each book these words are listed along with their pronunciation and definition so that children can add to their vocabulary. I encourage parents to check out this book and others in the Q.T. Pie series.

MOST EXCELLENT- CHARACTERS TO LOVE #2
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2006-05-14
Wonderful characters at cross purposes with each other.
Heiress Meredith Seaton was 8 years old when she met the young man Quinnlin Devereux, 21 - he made a swing for her and her half-sister, Lissa.
Ah, now she is a young 24 year old silly acting ninny. Her fortune is being doled out to her by the banker, Brett Devereux.

She has a habit of spending most of her time visiting up and down the Mississippi and is heading home on the paddle boat, Lucky Lady.
The Lucky Lady is owned by the gambler and rogue, Quinn Devereux who leads everyone to believe that Cam is his slave.

Meredith is traveling with her Aunt Opal and maid, Daphne, a young woman purchased from the slave traders.
Meredith gets mixed up in her remembrance of Quinn as a gentle, happy young man and the cold, calculating mercenary he has become.
We slowly learn of the background and hellish ordeal that makes up the character of Quinn. And have to laugh at his misunderstanding of Merry's character.

But the hormones do them in. Both are wary of each other but can't seem to keep from seeking each other out. Neither can afford to have a great deal of trust for anyone.

[chuckle] Then the bounty hunters go on the prowl.
Quinn and Meredith - Cam and Daphne - Lissa and a few others make up a great list of characters woven into a great story plot.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED -M - Definitely a keeper and is followed by Notorious, the story of Marsh Canton who stops in SF - the Devereux's Pacific Palace.

Potter has proven time and again that she is an excellent writer and an expert on human behaviour. This book is wonderful. Set in pre-civil war south, Meredith Seaton was raised by her cold, callous father...and she dearly loved her black half sister! Her plantation owner father sold Lissa to avoid scandal and Meredith was devastated. She withdrew into herself determined that she would find her sister one day....Years later she emerges as this eccentric, southern belle ninny......corkscrew curls, makeup, layers of frilly, unbecoming dresses and a giggle that breaks glass. In this guise she is not only searching for Lissa but helping free slaves for the underground railroad. The dialogue and situations she devises for her "character" are a sketch. However in her travels she meets Capt Quinn Devereaux, a paddle boat owner who clearly 'mistreats' his slave, Cam. Quinn can't understand why he is drawn to this air headed girl and with secrets of his own he tries very hard not to be. A gambler, rogue and intimidating man, he has scars to prove the hell he has lived through and he distances himself from people to survive. He also hides a gentler self that even he doesn't know exists anymore. When meredith sticks her nose in secret business, quinn is forced to kidnap her to save the lives of his friends. Meredith jumps overboard to escape him and he believes she is dead and quinn is beyond distraught. Don't want to give the plot away but this book has many facets and never a dull moment. Each character has full background and you learn the
stuff in their souls........love, adventure, history and characters to love...It's a keeper......(p.s. is quinn also with the underground railroad????)

A great book for families with children of different races or for foster families

Both of my babies loved this book. The pictures are very cute and each page has the story written in rhyme. The book goes through the day of a group of babies of various races who all live together. The book is unique in that all the children are different races and no caregiver is pictured. They all sleep together in the same bed. It would be a good book for families who have children of mixed races or for a foster family with babies of different races. The illustrations are well done and realistic, depicting simple problems and scenarios that a baby can easily relate to. We read it over and over.

Mom and Dad "up at dawn" reading this

Our daughter would bring this book to us every morning near dawn exclaiming "read me again!". My husband memorized it so he could keep his eyes closed a few moments longer, while turning the pages and "reading" it to her. Although there is no accounting for this tiny board book fetching these astronomical prices, it is a family treasure of memory. The book did not survive its overuse at our house. I hope you (and we for friends and future grandchildren) can find it for a more reasonable $10.00 or under.

A short introduction that shows and explains dyeing technique with lots of superb photographs. The meat of this book is the detailed field guide to mushrooms with a full set of color photographs. Proper keys are here, good index, glossary and bibliography. Superb publication with all the details needed to do the job.

This book does not give much information on how to dye with mushrooms, however, it is the absolute best field guide to mushrooms used for dyeing to date. Each mushroom is described in detail, with an accompanying color photograph and the colors that it yields. This book is a must have for mushroom dyers.

The authors have done a phenomenal job with their introduction of Godwin/the Boy Magician, the new children's book series with its first book, "The Rainbow Builders." This intergalactic fantasy children's tale is not only a fun read, but it raises the bar on fantasy adventures... this is not your average heroes and villains story. This is a magical and timely journey which unfolds in a whole other galaxy. A mixed wizard's brew with an exceptional line-up of original characters. The best part is discovering there are no limits in Godwin's open playground, the Universe. A must read for both young readers and the young at heart!

The Rainbow Builders is one of the most enjoyable books I've read in recent years. It has some of the best qualities of the Harry Potter series combined with the Lord of the Rings trilogy fantasy, and yet it has unique characters and story of its own. What's more, it has a terrific sense of humor. Some of the parts are laugh-out-loud funny. Even most of the villians break me up. The best news about this is the fact that it's the first book in a series. I can hardly wait for the sequels.

I think I'm lucky to find this book because there aren't a lot of copies of this book in the bookstores. (If any one is wondering I found this copy lying in an ancient bookstore)

Alaina Montgomery, a smart and cool lawyer, who's all about class. Dylan Harrison, a bait and bar shop owner, who goofs around all the time. The only thing they have in common when they met was that they both live in Anastasia, California.

They met when Alaina's BMW broke down on the road when she's trying to go to her friend's costume party. Because of how Dylan and Alaina dressed, they were both arrested. From then there was a mutual attraction for each other and they related how they hated it when their friends would try to hook them up with some other person. So they come up with this idea to pretend to be dating, so it'll be just an easy date without any hassles. They get to know each other and they fall in love, but they never tell each other because they're too scared to. But could they truly ever connect over their differences?

I really loved this book and now I'm searching for the other books in this set. There are 4 books in this set and so far I only found 2 and I really do hope I'll find it.

Excellent unit history.

Review Date: 1996-10-23
The American 42nd Division was unique in World War One. Composed of National Guard units from twenty-six states, from its start it demonstrated the strengths and weaknesses of the American soldier: brave, naive, eager to fight, always an amateur at heart, slow to accept the military conventions of the professional soldier but quick at the craft of war. The Alabamans, Irish New Yorkers, and Midwesterners who comprised its main units began with the regionalist preoccupations so prevalent in those days, but ended as Americans, proud to have served in one of the top divisions of the AEF. Colonel Cooke's fine history takes us from conception to demobilization, with clear and complete combat narrative and sketches of some famous Rainbow Men: Douglas MacArthur, Wild Bill Donovan, the playwright Charles MacArthur, Joyce Kilmer, Father Francis Duffy, George Patton (attached for St. Mihiel), and others. Every division should have a history of this quality.

Personal stories bring the Rainbow Division to life

An outstanding book that brought the Rainbow Division to life through the use of personal stories and well documented research of each battle. The book has numerous footnotes allowing the reader to continue his/her personal search for what life was really like for soldiers in World War I. A very good read. I could hardly put the book down - not something you can usually say about history books.
