agaReview Date: 2007-01-25
Darius knows he erred by having the sexual encounter with Tasha. That she became pregnant and gave birth to his child is a fact he regrets. In his mind however, he has needs and Tasha is known to be a loose woman so he feels justified in using her as he did. It's the way it's always been for the Gothman men, besides, Tara was missing, supposedly dead.
Neither the Runners nor the Gothman can understand Tara's willingness to negotiate trade rights with the Neurians for the oil they need. After what the Neurians had done to Tara, the clan leaders all felt that declaring war makes more sense. Getting them to see the wisdom of trading with a southern race is going to be a true test of her patience. Once Tara arrives back at the house she shares with her claim, she finds her niece, Syra, in the shed with Torgo, Darius's brother, instead of watching Tara's twin children as she's agreed to do. All of the stress of the meeting and worry over Syra's lack of control where Torgo is concerned doesn't diminish Tara's excitement over the Blood Circle Clan's return. It is the first time she hadn't traveled with her people and she'd worried for the past six cycles until Patha had contacted her letting her know that they would be returning. Her excitement soon wavers under the negative comments of her half-sister, Tasha. Tara wasn't given the chance to greet the clan members since Patha and Darius rushed her back to the house. Once there, she had a visit from the mysterious dog-woman who has helped Tara through many troubles. She's warned that evil has arrived and Tara must stop it. The only evil Tara can think of is Tasha. She heads back to the Blood Circle Clan site to confront Tasha and soon discovers why she was rushed away from the clan members as quickly as possible. Tasha has had a baby, a little boy who is the spitting image of his father - Darius. Tara's rage is uncontrollable and when she's stopped from killing Tasha, she banishes her from the Blood Circle Clan, promising that if she reappears, Tasha will be shot on sight. Are Tasha and her child the evil the dog-woman was referring to, or is there something far more evil threatening them all?
TARA THE GREAT is filled with the wonderful characters I adored from THE SAGA BEGINS. Some of them you love and others you just love to hate but all of them are truly memorable. Tara's strength and sense of honor amazes me. You get the sense that there's nothing she can't handle. I can honestly say that I do like Darius. He's a hard man to understand, but there's just something endearing about him. I'm dying to know what happens next with Syra and Torgo. They're both young and Syra suffers through a horrific ordeal in this story. Lorie O'Clare will have readers' emotions in turmoil throughout TARA THE GREAT - everything from pure rage to tears and back again. The NUWORLD series has exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend it for bold, open-minded readers. You will however, need to read the first book in the series in order to fully appreciate this story.

Caitlyn Willows has kept me thoroughly entertained and engrossed in each of the books in her TEAMWORK seriesReview Date: 2008-03-10
Rather than packing for her long overdue Hawaiian vacation, FBI agent Allie Quinn is being briefed on yet another assignment. All she has to do is meet with fellow agent Gordie on a train and bring back the flash drive he slips her. It should be simple enough, but in their line of work `simple' always turns out to be far more complicated than they anticipate.
Matt Oliver is also an FBI agent but he's deep undercover and Allie has no description or anything to go by. She's simply told that he'll contact her if it becomes necessary. Allie decides to visit the lounge in the hopes that Gordie will be there. He's there, but so is Sumner (the man they're working so hard to bust) and all his cronies. She'll have to think up a way to get Gordie to come to her without raising suspicions - flirtation will do nicely. Revealing a little cleavage and making herself appear available works better than she'd hoped. Only the man that approaches her isn't Gordie.
The man who approaches her is clearly one of Sumner's thugs but that doesn't stop her from instantly desiring him. Teo, as the other's call him, is six feet of pure raw male who is definitely not the sort of man you'd take home to mom and dad but that isn't going to stop a girl from taking a walk on the wild side with a gorgeous bad boy - it sure isn't going to keep Allie from giving in to her womanly needs and experiencing a little exhibitionism.
Oh my! INSIDE MAN is one hot little story that readers are going to want to be sure to keep handy for whenever you're in a more risque mood. Caitlyn Willows incorporates scorching sex scenes and a bit of suspense with fascinating characters whom you'll almost envy in this short story which contains all the aspects I love in a full length story. I really got into the exhibition scenes on the train and definitely felt a little hot and bothered by them. I found some scenes shockingly intense and others I had to laugh at, but the whole story comes together in a titillating finale that I absolutely loved!
LAYING LOW
Once Allie completed her assignment, she left the train fully expecting to never see Matt/Matteo again. Imagine her surprise when he shows up at the Hideaway Resort in Oaho fully prepared to indulge all her wicked fantasies and a few of his own. Public sex is frowned upon by the agency so they'll have to be more discreet.
They quickly realize that their feelings for each other are more than just lust and that could prove to be a problem - especially in their line of work. They have twelve days of sun, fun and all the smoldering sex they can manage to squeeze into such a short time span. What will happen when the vacation is over? Is there any chance for two FBI agents who spend a lot of time undercover to find their happily-ever-after together?
I loved the first book in this series, INSIDE MAN, and had wondered what happened to Allie and Matt after the story ended so I was thrilled to see that Caitlyn Willows continues this story with several follow up stories. LAYING LOW is the second story in this memorable series. With characters readers will love, an exotic setting and uninhibited sex scenes this is a story you won't be able to put down.
LOOSE ENDS
Matt and Allie's vacation is cut short when Matt receives the phone call letting him know that Sumner, the man he'd spent two years undercover investigating, has been extradited to New York and made bail. Matt's cover was never blown and he wasn't arrested with the rest of Sumner's cronies. Sumner has been calling his Matteo Lombardi cell phone and it looks like he's trying to round up his men who weren't arrested with him. Matt once again has to go undercover, but leaving Allie behind isn't something he's prepared to do either. She already has a cover in place as Samantha Shaw, a call girl, so she goes with him.
While on their way to their assignment Allie notices that a news program follows the in-flight movie. The program is about Sumner and she pays close attention to the men in the background of the shots for future references. She's stunned when one of the clips shows her and Matteo's fateful encounter up against a wall while Sumner's men watched. She's hopeful that maybe the picture is too grainy for anyone to recognize them - no such luck! They receive phone calls from their mothers and neither of them are happy.
LOOSE ENDS is full of sexual tension and `oh my' scenes that kept me enthralled in the story but there's also an added excitement and anticipation as they prepare to go back undercover in such a risky situation. Ms. Willows introduces a new character in this book with whom readers will be intrigued - Simon Petrocelli - is he one of the good guys or one of the bad? Believe me, you'll want to find out much more about him.
A REAL MAN
FBI agents Matt Oliver and Allie Quinn are back undercover and as determined as ever to take down Brian Sumner. Their dedication to the job is only tempered by their intense sexual desire for each other. Now that they're in love there's far more on the line than Matt and Allie ever expected and a twist to the case that will shock them both.
Matt's not sure who can be trusted and who can't but one thing he is sure of is that their own people have compromised them. Too many facts about the shooting and the hospital overnight stay - for stitches - just don't add up. Matt and Allie make the decision to leave the hospital where they're sure that their room is bugged. The last thing they expect is for Petrocelli to anticipate their escape from the hospital and be waiting on them - with their bosses in tow.
These stories are hot, exciting, and full of enough suspense to satisfy any desire you may have for a little something different. I loved getting the chance to delve more into the relationship between Allie and Matt, but I have to admit, I adore Simon Petrocelli and after reading about his reasons for going after Sumner, I desperately wanted him to have his happily-ever-after.
NEVER TOO LATE
Simon and Emily are both wracked with guilt over how their marriage ended and all they lost. Simon's positive that Emily will never give him another chance - after all how many chances should one man be allotted? It's while Emily's caressing the fertility goddess that Simon makes his presence known. Both fear that they won't be able to recapture the love and trust they once shared but once they're together, their emotions take over and they recapture all the passion they've both missed over the years. They have a world of issues they need to get past but with some long overdue loving and a little honest emotional discussion they just may find that for them, it's NEVER TOO LATE.
Caitlyn Willows ends her TEAMWORK series with an unforgettable story in NEVER TOO LATE. Readers will be able to understand and empathize with Simon and Emily's emotional upheaval and fears. I fell in love with Simon in LOOSE ENDS and A REAL MAN so I was thrilled to learn that he'd have a story of his own and it's definitely well worth reading. I found Emily to be a strong woman who went through a loss which would destroy most women and yet she remains strong and hopeful. This is exactly the sort of couple that you want to see find their happily-ever-after. Kudos Ms. Willows on a wonderful series which I have thoroughly enjoyed.

Suspenseful espionage and romance - Civil War EraReview Date: 2006-11-04
The story setting is post-Civil war era. The main characters are Jared Bentley and Kathryn Deveraux, both members of the government espionage agency, Dark Watch. The story starts of with the death of both their fathers, who were founding fathers of the agency. They want to find their fathers' murderers, yet they must first focus on discovering who has infiltrated and betrayed the agency, putting aside their personal grief. Both are unique, strong-willed characters, yet likeable, and totally dedicated to their mission in protecting their country and President. They are forced to keep their love a secret because of their involvement in Dark Watch, yet yearn for each other. The intrigue and plot progess throughout, later weaving the paranormal element of good vs. evil into the story, which brings into play important secondary characters, Strand (a mystical guide) and Mae. Mae is the villainess in the book, whose past and present life is intertwined with that of Jared and Kathryn. Yet all of this is done skillfully so that is plausible.
I highly recommend this book, and await the next book in the series.

Powerful, memorable. Highly recommendedReview Date: 2003-07-21
Karl has contacted Tania once again, but this time something is different. Something is terribly wrong; she can feel it. When Tania's contact at Interpol tells her that the CIA will be taking over her case and to expect an agent, her instincts warn her to bolt. But secret agent, Bart Matthews, is one step ahead of her. When he arrives at her home and confirms her suspicion that yes, The Wolf has escaped, Tania realizes that the end is near. For her children's sake, the time has come for her to confront her worst fear and finally end the nightmare, one way or another. But after so many years of depending only on herself, can she really trust in Agent Matthews to keep her girls safe, let alone herself? And can she really do as he suggests and pose as his wife to draw out The Wolf?
In Tania, Bart Matthews finds a complex woman, one that he is extremely drawn to, albeit reluctantly. As a former runway model she is still an attractive woman, and she is very vulnerable. But she is also strong, resilient and filled with determination. Unlike other witnesses he has protected, she disdains his help. He must constantly push her, trying to crack her composure and break through to emotions and memories she holds inside. Then perhaps she will stop fighting him, and in the process, become an asset to him in his pursuit of The Wolf. For what Tania does not realize is that Bart is the man who brought down the elusive assassin once before, and that the hunter has now become the hunted.
'TIL DEATH US DO PART is a psychological thriller not to be missed. It pulls the reader in from page one and does not let go until the very end. Ms. Gray has created a truly gripping story filled with unforgettable characters, from the chilling villain, The Wolf, to the supremely compelling hero, Bart Matthews, and of course the long suffering but tough Tania. And there are many, many more players, all of whom have important roles because Ms. Gray uses them all to propel the plot along. Particularly engaging are Tania's twin girls who recognize the gravity of the situation to a degree. But being children, they still romanticize it, as is evident by their code names of James Bond and Miss Moneypenny. The story volleys at super speed to and fro amongst all the characters. At times it is a bit confusing but not so bothersome as to detract from the overall enjoyment of the book.
Bart and Tania are perhaps two of the most forceful characters I have ever read about. While he is the ultimate secret agent working for the U.S. government, he remains a maverick. He always gets the job done, usually by his own set of rules, and no matter what, his job always comes first. The confidence and power he exudes is very sexy and many women would willingly place themselves in his very capable hands. What also makes Bart so alluring, is knowing that if he ever devoted himself to a woman like he does his job, that woman would be the recipient of something powerfully intense and special. Tania is the perfect foil for Bart. Such a strong man needs a strong woman or he would crush her spirit in a heartbeat and in the process lose interest in her. I like the way that, until the bitter end, Tania wants to rely first and foremost on herself. And the reader knows that if the romance that springs up between the two does not make it, Tania will still go on, bruised perhaps, but never beaten. Meanwhile, The Wolf is very unnerving with his cold, calm, detached and methodical manner. And the reader quickly learns that when he kills for personal reasons rather than professional ones, he is even more frightening.
There are many other aspects of 'TIL DEATH US DO PART that make it is so satisfying. One lies in the fact that even with all the "spy stuff" going on, the plot still remains believable. Nothing is so over the top as to make the story lose credibility. This also holds true for the way the characters themselves behave in a situation. I appreciate that once the CIA enters Tania's life, she never tries to act like an agent herself, and neither does Bart treat her like one even as he uses her to get to The Wolf.
With its powerful story and memorable characters, 'TIL DEATH US DO PART is one book that I will not soon forget, and I highly recommend it.

Everything CountsReview Date: 2006-07-21
Connell Byrne owns the local tavern. He is surprised and shocked when he sees Elspeth sitting at the table with her friends. Elspeth is as beautiful as Connell remembers and he still feels a pull toward her. Memories from their past assault him, and while some are pleasant, most just hurt him. Elspeth broke his heart years ago and he still is not over it.
Elspeth knows that seeing Connell again is not simply chance because the numbers have been indicating a change in her future. Both Elspeth and Connell are going to have to face some painful truths from their pasts if they ever hope to move forward.
Everything Counts is a touching story about the choices we make to protect ourselves and the ones we love. Elspeth and Connell were separated when their love was new and blossoming. Elspeth is a kind person who lives a quiet life because she cannot move past the pain and tragedy of her past. She is limited by the choices she made and does not think that she can change. Connell thought he had put his past behind him, until he sees Elspeth again. Connell realizes that he must close that part of his past one way or another. Connell and Elspeth definitely have chemistry and share a romantic connection.
Everything Counts moved quickly and kept me engaged and rooting for both Elspeth and Connell. Megan Hart exhibits how one moment can completely alter lives and that sometimes confronting history can make one stronger. She does a wonderful job creating characters who worked their way into my heart and mind. Ms. Hart reminded me that Everything Counts, especially forgiveness and love!

An Unexpected GemReview Date: 2007-01-17
After reading a string of so-so books, I picked up Megan Hart's UNEXPECTED without much expectation and was, therefore, totally unprepared for this truly amazing collection of short stories.
* * * * * * * * * *
AMIDST A CROWD OF STARS. Lujawed is a harsh desert planet, and homesteader Marrin Levy and her three children are struggling to survive after the death of her husband. After several years, Marrin finally decides to send away for a "field husband"--a marriage of convenience to a man to help her work the land and take care of things. She was expecting someone different--different from the strange, handsome, alien, ageless Seveeran who is looking for a new life. What she gets is Keane Delacore. What she gets is better than anything she could have imagined.
Although all of the stories in this collection are terrific, I wish this story had been placed at the end of the collection rather than the beginning because I thought it was the strongest. Ms. Hart essentially tells this story backwards, with the most recent events giving way to the earlier events--and it's a unique and effective way to have the story unfold. In addition, Ms. Hart creates a complete and believable world, interesting characters, and a sexy, tender romance within a handful of pages. This story really moved me. In fact, I have to say it did something pretty unusual--it made me cry.
EMERALD ISLE. This swashbuckling tale opens with Robin Steele being forced to walk the plank of the pirate queen's ship. Luckily, Robin doesn't really get eaten by sharks, but his wife Eleanor did have to give up the leprechaun's magic emerald to the greedy queen. The two set off to recover the gem and locate the rest of the leprechaun's treasure. Their adventure is perilous and they must match wits against both the pirate queen and the leprechaun while never losing sight of what is truly important.
EVERYTHING COUNTS. Elspeth Valerin is an instructor of Arithmancy at Somnus Keep, and her life is ruled by numbers and order. Unfortunately, her control of the thrall is incomplete due to her inability to open up and trust a man enough to take him as her lover. When she joins a group of instructors at a pub, she comes face to face with the handsome owner, Connell Byrne. Years earlier, Connell had been her first love, but could never have been her first lover because he didn't have magic and would have compromised her own potential as a magicreator. Connell knew this, but has carried the bitterness of her rejection and abandonment. Now that they are reunited, they both have a chance to heal their wounds and rediscover love--if only Elspeth can calculate the right course of action.
MOONLIGHT MADNESS. Plain Rhea is on her way to a nightclub when she is diverted by the shop signs: One night only! Moonlight Madness! Prices Slashed! Inside the dark store, Rhea finds the most amazing coat, a coat that transforms her into a beautiful, desirable--in fact, irresistible--woman when she puts it on. After buying the coat for a pittance, Rhea wears it to the club where she becomes the center of attention--especially Ted's. Rhea had never had a man like Ted interested in her but the mysterious coat makes anything possible, at least for awhile.
MONSTER IN THE CLOSET. Tessa Hanson has a monster in her closet. Unfortunately for him, the monster forgot to put on his uniform so instead he looks just like a gorgeous naked man. In fact, a gorgeous naked man who is intent upon seducing Tessa in order to win his wings (so to speak) as an incubus. Tessa's definitely interested in the sex, but finds it more difficult to let go and give up control enough to allow herself to be seduced. Clever Magnus the monster is up to the challenge, tho, and they have a night together that changes both of their lives. Boo.

Recently, I seem to have read a lot of short stories that have been dragged out to novel length. Ms. Hart, on the other hand, accomplishes the feat of creating whole worlds within a few satisfying pages. If done correctly, short stories are much more difficult to write than novels. Ms. Hart not only does it right, she makes it seem effortless. And each of these worlds and their characters are unique, not just cookie cutter versions of the previous stories with a few changes. These stories run the gamut from sci fi to fantasy to adventure to horror, as well as from torrid sex to tender, everlasting love. This book is not to be missed.

Unveiled Review Date: 2007-12-19
Before you decide to pick up Unveiled, make sure you're not squeamish or sensitive. The book contains violence, gore, BDSM, partner-sharing, and other things that really won't be your cup of tea. Also, it would be best to read Master of Obsidian first. While this book would make sense on its own, I think it's more enjoyable if you know the backstory. That said, Unveiled is a truly suspenseful read with much to recommend it. The book picks up where Master of Obsidian left off and further develops the relationship between Jesse and Gideon, making this a worthy sequel. Jesse is really coming into his own in this book, becoming more confident in Gideon's love and in his own competence. Gideon, despite being capable of violence when necessary, can also be very sweet and tender toward Jesse. I liked the way their relationship included some (pretty heavy) d/s games in the bedroom and respect and equality outside it. Newcomer Emma's abilities have a very interesting effect on the men and the storyline. Her mix of toughness and vulnerability made her a sympathetic character. The storyline itself is taut and suspenseful. The games Jesse and Gideon must play, and the coldly evil people they must deal with, to catch the killers are chilling. Jamie Craig did a very good job of creating an atmosphere populated with rich people and vampires who play by a different set of rules and have no empathy or morality at all. If you like vampires, mysteries, and dark storylines, pick up Unveiled. The book isn't for everyone, but fans of this type of book will not be disappointed.

Drury has penned a wonderfully poignant tale of love and heartbreak. The drama that unravels itself as you read deeper into the book, will have you spellbound and reeling from the impact.
A perfect marriage, a loving couple, an ideal family, a wonderful life... all blown apart with the appearance of a man from the heroine's past. Add to that, a couple of devastating secrets and you have absolutely spellbinding plot. The secondary characters added a wonderful feel to the story. Leah's mom and her teenage kids leave their own impact on the reader. Drury has a wonderful gift for making her characters seem so unfailingly human and so easy to identify with.
Very easy to read and exceptionally well-written, this book will have a strong impact on your heart and mind. Bonnie Drury is an excellent author and charming storyteller. This is one book I would highly recommend to all romance readers!

First off, I was hesitant to pick up this series because I knew it had two hot button issues that generally turn me right off a book: unfaithful heroes and incest. Readers will want to be aware that this series does contain scenes of incest. So it's the mark of a true storyteller that Ms. O'Clare had me unable to stop turning the pages. Ms. O'Clare skillfully explained the motivations and reasons why the characters do the things they do. And while I might not agree, I still couldn't turn away. NuWorld has it all: romance, action and a futuristic setting that is intriguing to say the least. Kudos to Ms. O'Clare for creating a world where the reader is literally drawn in from the first page. I'll be waiting for the last two books in this series, which I anticipate will be every bit as good as the first four.
