A great toolbox for self-development!!!!!!

I recommend this book strongly to anyone who wants to productively develop themselves in every way that counts. Now sure, the title sounds like a standard title that would put you off, but the information (which is what counts the most) is amazing, yet the most simple, time-tested and powerful principle in the world that works, God's/Existence's Supercomputer: The Mind and how to use it right. So, let it be said here, I fully and wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who genuinely wants to better their lives in any way that is rationally possible to them.

This book is a great read. Richard Bandler is a genius, and his book is filled with his great insights and easy to follow steps to make changes so that you can have more freedom in your life. I trained as an NLP Practitioner with Richard, Paul McKenna and Michael Neill - what an awesome experience! I think that this book is great for anyone, whether new to NLP or already a practitioner.

I just finished reading Get The Life You Want and what is there not to love. The only thing that could be better is if there were volumes more material to purchase. Being a master practitioner of NLP, I appreciate how Dr. Bandler simplifies his techniques.

NLP That Works! - Straight From The Horses Mouth

Review Date: 2008-09-10
At last! The simple straight forward book that we can all follow, from the man who gave us the techniques in the first place. This site is chock full of other potentially good books on personal development, but so many while being based on Richard's work give him no credit. In this easy to read easy to follow book Richard discusses and lays out the exercises that we can practice in order that we can all develop the life we want and create the happiness we deserve.

The book ably serves many purposes, firstly it is the transformational book that it promises to be, secondly it serves as a great introduction to how NLP can be used for those who might be interested in further study and thirdly it is a great refresher/reference book for those who have gone through practitioner training. In fact in many ways it could be seen a an NLP practitioner manual. I would say, based on personal experience, that the book however good is not a substitute for attending a live training session as it cannot (and is not intended to) replace the benefits of personal interaction with trainers and other participants.

If I were to have one criticism it would be the references at the back of the book that appear to suggest that one should only learn NLP from an SNLP approved trainer as this may limit the number of people who might otherwise recommend the book to their students.

I was on a conference call with Richard about a week or so ago and we talked about this book and the upcoming release of his hypnotic language patterns book (coming out November).

Here is what I can say from my heart about the man and about this book: Richard loves life, he loves people, and you get that in this book. He doesn't see any need for suffering over time. Whatever is not working for you in your life, Richard knows that you can get through it, over it or to it without suffering over time. He is not about doing it one way, the right way, his way - he is ALL ABOUT doing what works, doing it fast, and creating shifts in your life that impact you immediately and generatively. A generative shift is one that self adjusts over time, giving you access to more freedom, self expression and power in your life.

During the call, Richard shared that the idea for the book came to him while he was cooking. He thought about all the folks who will never walk into a certified NLP training, who may be intimated to delve into Hypnotic Learning Patterns or The Structure of Magic. All at once he knew that after nearly 40 years of change making with people from all walks of life and all parts of the world, that he was the one, (and I say the ONLY ONE) who could write a workable book where foundational NLP techniques and DHE tools are as easy to follow as a recipe for baking a chocolate cake.

He achieved his goal. As soon as I am out of the swimming pool, I am sending you a postcard, dear friend! (Swimming phobia from age 8, professional lessons, prior hypnosis, even a Tony Robbins phobia session did not work; what it took was this book!)

Buy the book. Put your skepticism in your closet long enough to read it. Choose one place in your life where you would like more freedom, power, joy and full self expression. Then take it on. Follow the directions and go for it. There's more than one technique to choose from, so no worry if the first one doesn't get it, go for the next one. My personal favorite, spinning the feelings in opposite directions. This is a big part of what smashed to pieces the real physical phobic responses my body experienced whenever I tried to swim.

If you want to have a life that works in a world that works, this is the book to buy now. No NLP experience required.

Great book! Gives good detail on what to expect from different procedures and a ballpark figure as far as cost is concerned. The book gives the up side and down side to procedures and provides very accurate information on which to make an informed decision. I would highly recommend anyone thinking about a cosmetic fix to read this book first!

This book has the simple to read feel that a non-clinician needs but with all the detail you would ever want to make an informed decision about plastic surgery. The drawings and pictures make it more accessible to those of us without MDs after our names. It is clear that lots of people are unhappy with their bodies, and Dr. Copeland makes no bones about legitimizing those complaints. It's refreshing to finally read that it's OK to take that extra step in order to feel good about yourself.

This book is an excellent resource for both the practitioner and the researcher with an interest in occupational stress. As a stress researcher, I have referred to this book many times and my questions are almost always answered. In addition, it has an unusally extensive reference listing that covers virtually the entire spectrum of academic literature in the field of occupational stress. This book adds real value.

This book is a user-friendly, step-by-step guide to the power of deep relaxation through the daily practice of 'quantum focusing' - a kind of self-hypnosis which frees the mind to shift perceptions. The practice helped me to overcome fears of success and psychic pain as well as alleviate my fears before surgery and minimalize any post-operative stress. I recommended the book to athletes who want to improve their game and actors to strengthen their craft.

I once encountered an old Zen proverb that said "when the student is ready, the teacher will appear." How often can each one of us say that the timely occurrence of a special person, a special happening, or even a book has occurred in our lives at such optimal timing that it made all the difference in the world in who and what we are. So to is the unbelievable timing of this superb text. For those of you interested in "self-care" of a natural and wholesome approach, this text definitely leads the way. Seldom have I found such a complete head to toe assessment addressing everything from spirituality to nutrition all wrapped up in one easy to read format

One thing I notice that is a negative to me is that I receive tons of spam following any Amazon purchase. I have no way of knowing if there is an actual relationship between my purchase and the receipt of spam, but it is suspect. Is there anything you can do about it? Otherwise, I have very positive transactions with Amazon.

My son recommended this book to me because he knew I needed it. I've tried meditation before but I never seemed to get the hang of it. This book makes it simple. Simple enough for me to be willing to give it 8 minutes a day. Already I feel the accumulated effects. If you need to quiet your mind, and want to do it RIGHT NOW, then this is the book for you.

I always did want to try meditation, but like many things its very intimidating thing to get into and stay into, because you often have to buy some religious or other teaching with it, or it just doesn't fit into your schedule. Like he says, this book overcomes both of those obstacles, no weirdness and an easy course to fit into your life.

I'm starting on week three; I haven't so much noticed "reduced stress and increased focus" but I'm definitely enjoying the practice. I also like the clear and easy course he sets out for you making it easy to follow and not be discouraged.

I recommend this book to anyone and everyone with a desire to try meditation (though if you'll read the negative reviews it has little to offer someone more experienced).

Very useful information, sullied by marketing and 'filler'
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-07-17
I have mixed feelings about this book and this author. I'm sure that the information is very useful - an important education for all and therefore worth every cent. However, I do think the author was quite brave to publish an entire book around those snippets of information. Even though it's a slim volume it's still mostly 'filler'. However, don't necessarily let that detract from the value of the core information.

What does detract, though, is the way it comes across as quite a thinly disguised marketing exercise. Not that there's anything wrong with marketing per se - good on him for getting out there and getting wealthy - but it does grate.

(It must have worked though, because he's bold enough to ask for US$600/hr for consultations by phone!! In that sense buying the book is a very sensible compromise, because really, who of sound mind would pay that?!)

Helps to improve and give info about your voice

Review Date: 2008-05-25
I was looking for a book that helped me to improve my voice, and I found one. It is easy to read book, and it give you informations how to make your voice better.

It make you think about how importand your voice is, and that you should take better care of it, after all, there is so much about your voice, that reflects your personality. Your voice, is the identidy of your personality. I think people should think more about how they speak.

We are always using the voice image, instead of speaking the way we where born to speak, which by the way is the way we spoke after learning it from your closest people(parenst, teachers, friends) This book has exercises to find and use your natural voice, and the exercises are so simple..

The problem for me was, that in the beginning of the book, it was alot about exercises and information about the voice, which was great, but in the second half, it was to much about people who had some voice problems, and decided to use these simple exercises, to fix the problem. And it worked, even though many had tried very expensive ones, and complicated ones, these worked, and they are very simple, and not many.

Overall, Great book!

Alchemy of Voice
Dr. Morton as a speech therapist, writes in a layman's style approaching developing an interestint voice. His advice on finding your 'natural voice" as opposed to the 'habitual' voice compliments Stuart Pearson's book "The Alchemy of Voice."

It helps the voice teacher to show students how to find the best pitch for each individual. Although seriously treated in both books, students will have fun finding their own level of pitch.

Not Quite Enough
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2007-12-31
Not quite enough. Not enough pages. Not enough exercises. Not enough real models of good voices (The book does not include a CD as is truly necessary for this sort of thing) Not enough visual illustration. Not enough good science (What does it really mean to say 'the voice should emerge from the upper two-thirds of the air passageway leading to your mouth?")

On the other hand, too much. Too much motivational schlock. Too much celebrity name dropping. Too much evidence of the hurriedness with which this book was put together.

I hope the author will remake the book, include a CD, explain the science better, and get rid of the pages devoted to hyping voice training. The fact the reader has spent money makes that superfluous. Let's try again!

This isn't a book for people who are starting from scratch with absolutely nothing. This is a book to improve the look of what you already have by just adding a few simple accessories. The examples they use are rooms that need the the finishing touches and the book gives you the explanation to complete the room.
For me it is always easy to start the room but not complete the overall look.
This book is a very useful source to complete your look.
I finally found the book to help me in this area.

I really love this book because of the clear before and after pictures. They take a room and rearrange it using the existing furniture and describe what was done. It is amazing what placement can do. You really get a sense of why certain rooms work and you take away furniture/object placement techniques to improve any room. If you are into furniture layout, you will love this book.

I have read a ton of interior design books, and for the most part, I kept thinking I would learn through osmosis, by looking at the beautiful pictures and hoping for inspiration. Unfortunately, my home did not reflect my love of interior design, which for me, is the ultimate test of effectiveness.
This book takes Lauri Ward's "Use What You Have Decorating" book, which had some good ideas, and goes much further in showing you in each photo how you can arrange your furniture and accessories into a beautiful home. It tells you the basic rules, how to balance items visually, and why these tips work. Since I bought the book, I've been moving my furniture and rearranging my tabletops and I am amazed at how beautiful the results are. I'm ready to toss all of my old decorating books, and just leave this book on my shelf. I am surprised at how well this book has worked for me.

I heard author Richard Schell speak about Quick Cash, and found the book as easy to read as Schell was to listen to -- and just as self-deprecating and humorous at times.

Schell is right, the strategies to raise cash -- whether it is to pay off bills or decide whether your child is going to Camp Timberwolf or Camp Nickelodeon for the summer are with in reach -- just so long as you don't wait for someone to hand you money for doing nothing! Schell tells you just what to do.

First step to making your comeback.........

Review Date: 2007-10-12
As the author of Extraordinary Comebacks, how very well I know that financial setbacks are one of the most common. But they can be overcome. One of our 201 comeback story subjects started with $200, and built a reported $20 million business (Paula Deen)! A trader lost $800,000 in one day, and spent years working two jobs to pay it back -- but when he did, he was on the road to becoming a top futures trader (Mark D. Cook). Even Donald Trump faced insolvency, and bankruptcy (1990). So if you've been knocked down, financially, you're in good company indeed. They all made a comeback, so can you.

But how to raise a few hundred or a few thousand if you're strapped? Author Richard E. Schell has done a yeomen's duty here of cataloging literally scores of ways to come up with cash that may not have occurred to you under the major headings: ask for it, borrow it, sell it, earn it, find it. Extensive lists onboard will fire your gray matter and get you brainstorming. Many helpful links to creative web sites as well. Just as important: advice on what NOT to do during your financial crisis (you don't want legal problems in addition; the author is an attorney). Highly recommended.

The worst nonfiction book I've ever read by far.

Apparently nobody proofreaded this book. Worse, it contains nothing you don't know already. It's just a short list of the most obvious ways to raise money anyone's ever devised. The author spends 39 pages of this tiny, well-padded book BSing about obvious loan sources.

This is the worst nonfiction book I've ever read. (The worst fiction book I've ever read was "House on Mango Street", by Sandra Cisneros. Cisneros's book was worse than "Quick Cash".)
