I couldn't put down this book until I finished it and I can't wait to read it a few more times. The first page, alone, gave me goosebumps! With beautiful images and a very powerful message, this story gently nudges us to question our "status quo" and encourages us to take the journey to awakening --while offering reassurance that it is path we all are capable of taking -- and that it is well worth the effort. Thought-provoking and heart-provoking. The book is written and presented in a unique and attractive style that truly speaks to our innermost essence. The subtle messages in the story's language require you to keep your intuition alert and add an extra fun and challenging dimension to reading this book. Highly recommended for reading and also as a gift --for enjoyment, beauty, inspiration, thought-provoking and soul-nurturing.

The reputation of "Quest for Fire" in the U.S. surely comes from the movie rather than the book, as the film is regarded as a cult classic, yet there have been only two paperback publications here, to my knowledge. That said, be warned that the book is a very straightforward, bare-bones story... but it's also entertaining, in a simple way. The story deals with the adventures of a trio of neanderthals searching for a source of fire for their tribe after theirs is extinguished. The story gives fairly simplistic descriptions of their encounters with a wide variety of strange individuals and creatures. It almost reads like Hemmingway. You won't get in-depth portrayals of action, emotion, or grandeur, just a basic story, I guess much like Naoh or the others would tell it in their own language. It's a quick read (assuming you can find it used), so afterwards, be sure to rent the movie. You'll see how the story was modified and expanded on the screen, bringing much more significance to the finale.

When men could hardly speak, they were submitted to the power of Nature. They were as helpless as the rest of animals, in fact they were inferior to some animals, and they have lost their only treasure that protects them from the outside dangers: the fire. In a small tribe, an intelligent, although not very strong youngster decides to go in search of the fire. He and two other men would have to face to long distances, depredators and cannibals.
This book will transport you to these distant times. You will desire the book will go on, so to follow these men and women in the first steps of our history as human beings.
Great largely as a children's book

I remember reading this book as a child several times and loving it. It had a raw sense of action, as the prehistoric story that tells of a tribe who had its fire extinguished in an enemy raid (a major tragedy in those times) and of three friends who set off on a quest to recover the fire from elsewhere. What follows is like a prehistoric Odyssey, as they encounter a whole range of threats both human, animal and natural - and put their physical characteristics as well as their pre-modern thinking to the ultimate test. Looking back, it's not such a profound book, and is probably best enjoyed by children as I did. In this case, it is a wonderful read about the dawn of what we know as humanity. The sequel Le Felin Geant (the Giant Cat in English) about the next generation would also fall in this category. However, as an adult reader, I think there are more thought-provoking examples of prehistoric fiction (namely Before Adam by Jack London).

Since the title to the end, it is a beautiful experience that teaches the importance of following a dream raising against our own limitations.

This book, as simple as the narrative is, can be incredibly moving. In fact, the autor's words, move very well to describe the simple act of trying to make an architectural idea happen. He describes a method of building that strikes as so close to the earth that it is revolutionary. The book is a quick read, and the time I have spent pushing its premise is well worth it.

I personally do not reccomend this book. There are many errors in it, incomplete walkthrus and pointlists. Inconsistencies are numerous in this book as well. This was definately NOT worth the money I paid for it. The only good thing about it, really, was the screen-shots (B&W, though). All-in-all, good for collectors, bad for gamers; it gets the official "Herk Thumbs-Down"

I don't know what the other people are talking about; it has the full points list for all of the characters. The only errors I found were that for the fighter's path, it doesnt' give all of the correct bets for the combat arena.
A pretty good guide.

A good coverage of the different paths taken in this game is provided in fairly detailed walkthroughs. Not much in the way of weapon, armor, or monster stats is provided; then again, there isn't a large number of enemy/weapon/armor types to deal with. There are some errors concerning points lists, but it is not that important; following the book will give you a perfect score of 1000 anyway. One problem -- it does not properly show how to win Katrina's love. [....] Overall, it does provide you with some neat strategies and tricks. A good companion while playing.
This is a decent strategy guide for Quest for Glory V.

I found very little wrong with this strategy guide. The character descriptions and the puzzle solving hints were very helpful. The only problem I found was that the book gave incorrect arena betting information for the fighter's path.

Did not know this book was written for young readers (as mentioned only on the fly-leaf) or would never have ordered it. Good for that market, I guess, if young people need to be exposed to ancient, downtrodden people being further beaten up, abused, made to withstand implausibly arduous experiences, etc. The backdrop is what this book should be about - helots, Sparta, Tegea - not these implausibly masochistic windbags.
If you are looking for books on the Persian or Peloponnesian Wars, pick up one or all of these sensational authors: Stephen Pressfield, Jon Edward Martin and Nicholas Nichastro. And then switch to, say, the Punic Wars. Or the Peninsula Wars. Just don't bother with this slim effort by Michael Ford. You won't learn anything and it may just encourage him.

I liked this book very much, though it isn't very long or advanced. It has a very open ending so i was just wondering if there's a sequel out there. Don't know but I'd get it if there were.
