Chester's choice of poetry is especially exciting! Based on my enjoyment of this selection, I have purchased and am reading "Unmade Bed" by the same editor. A very worthwhile and enjoyable collection!

Q and Not U's sound has evolved since this album, as has their lineup, but it's good stuff. It first struck me as good, but ordinary DC post-Fugazi punk. Which it was, for the most part, until it started to really grow on me. It's a shame they kicked out their bassist after this album - he was really good.

I really enjoyed reading this book with my class for information about tornadoes and hurricanes. The book presents many facts about these storms in a very kid friendly way. the format for the book is questions and answers. The book provides just enough information to keep it interesting for student readers. The pictures are not real, but are realistic. I like how the authors write a note in the beginning of the story inviting the reader to read their book. This book will be appealing for students in the upper elementary grades. It is a good beginning book for research.

Helping Teens Cope

This book is the best I've seen for teens coping with chronic illness. Since there really is no comparable book written just for teens with IBD, this book should be required reading for teens and young adults that are newly diagnosed or having trouble coping with the difficulties of chronic illness. Dr. Kaufman reaches teenagers' most important concerns through easily understood questions and answers

Elizabeth Taylor, an actress and sex symbol who is one of the most sought-after celebrities by the media, has published several books during her lifetime. Elizabeth Takes Off: On Weight Gain, Weight Loss, Self-image & Self-esteem is one of them. I first picked up this book because of the words "self-image & self-esteem" in the title, rather than the "weight gain, weight loss" portion. Well, it turns out the book would be an excellent source for those who want to lose weight, but that was not what I was interested in.

Nevertheless, the book itself is highly commendable. Even if you're not planning to go on a diet - like me - the first half of the book is still worth a read. Miss Taylor writes briefly and frankly about events that occurred in her life which affected her self image and consequently, self esteem. She writes how being a senator's wife caused her to divulge into a period of extreme inactivity and boredom which unconsciously turned her to overeating. She also mentions the dire effects of binging, nibbling, or grapple-snapping. Unlike those strictly diet-focused books, Elizabeth Takes Off offers insightful explanations and reasons for weight gain while also presenting a dietary method which to me looks superb.

If the first half analyzes the impact of events in Miss Taylor's life, the latter half offers diet menus, recipes and exercises that could help keep your body in shape. The Taylor-made recipes mainly consist of nutritious food, notably fruits and vegetables that have low calories. Her daily menus seem reasonable, diverse and easily followable because it is not a starving course, but a replacement for your typical diet. The exercise portion contains several beneficial stretches which, again, are also simple and effective.

Overall, I found this book to be a smooth, easy read. I also found myself nodding to many of the things that Miss Taylor says in this excellent book - which needs to be more in circulation today.

Emerald Review By Lucas

The story of "Emerald," which was written by James Baddock, takes place during World War II is a story of a young Russian spy who tries to help the Russians defeat the Germans. She only has 14 days to be found and escape safely before the Russians invade Berlin.
The main character Marianne, who is also known as Emerald, is a Russian spy. She has been sending the Russians information about the Germans for many years. When the Germans find out that there is a spy that is relating their information back to Russia they get angry. They send many men out to find out who the spy is, but they can't find out who it is. Little do they know that one of their men is married to the Russian spy and she is getting all the information from her husband.
When Emerald sends the Russians information that tells them they need to get her out of Berlin the Russians do so. They send Cormack and Woodward through a very adventurous and dangerous expedition in which the try and get Emerald out of Berlin before the Russians invade.
Throughout the story Cormack, Woodward, and Emerald face many things that could end their lives. When they stick together they find that they can escape into Berlin and be safe. When returning to Russia they are all seen as heroes because of all the great things that they have done.
This book shows how people can affect a war's outcome and how the can help with that war. According to the editor of this book he says "the author Baddock keeps his latest espionage thriller whizzing along right up to a slam-bang ending." He also tells of how the story is interesting because of the breathtaking episodes that occur throughout the story.
I enjoy reading "Emerald" because James Baddock always kept you guessing on what was going to happen next. The story is full of exciting adventure all the way until the end of the story and you never lose interest. While Marianne is a brave character for all she has done I don't believe the war would have really been won with Cormack and Woodward. They are the one who saved Emerald's life so that she could live as a hero too.

Encyclopedia of World Literature in the Twentieth Century: L to Q (Encyclopedia of World Literature in the Twentieth Century, L)

A Good Literary Encyclopedia of Several Writers!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-07-01
This book edition of the encyclopedia edited and put together by Leonard Klein is a very big book and despite it's weight. It is worth looking through for well-known authors. The second edition was published in 1983 long before Doris Lessing and Toni Morrison were named Nobel Laureautes. This book is very valuable in detailing cultural literature as well and explaining trends, fads, and recurring themes in certain cultures. Klein has not done it alone. It was a team effort with several collaborators and experts on authors. The focus is on twentieth century writers who had made a literary impact. In this book between the letters L & Q, there is wide range and variety of authors from all over the world. For a reference book, it is pretty thorough. There is one drawback and it is the lack of variety in the printing style. For the time, it was probably appropriate. There are only some black and white photos of the writers and not all.

The most thought provoking book that i've read on the subject of existence, covers aspects of this subject that have been previously overlooked or out-right ignored due to the complexity of the subject matter. I would recommend this book to students of philosophy and those individuals with a high interest in this type of discussion.

Will probably use it as my main study aid for Step 2. Am also using Crush at first because it is a quicker read, but not as detailed. Would definitely recommend using FA Step 2 CK. Easier to read than FA Step 1. Good luck everyone. Rock it!

Excellent volume; really appreciate the focus Namais's questioning gives the interviewees in their accounts. Unlike most historical resources in that we have a virtual guided tour comparing and contrasting the different experiences. Great!
