The Finest Scholarship by the Finest Scholar We HaveReview Date: 2007-05-02
Not only is it the culmination of the study and research of arguably the most well-rounded and dedicated scholar of this genre, but it is also a memoir of the path he followed. Born in 1924, he was on the cusp of modern New Testament studies. From youth till the present his interest and study led him to incredible knowledge and acumen on the subject. He states his chronologies flatly without embellishments but the stories are amazing, both in the casual disclosure of his multilingual abilities, his doggedness in getting things done and penchant for doing what needed to be done when no one else would. So much of the infrastructure of early Christian studies was created or enhanced by him. At the time he was Professor of New Testament and Theology at the School of Theology at Claremont, he founded the Institute for Antiquity and Christianity of which he became director. He doggedly perused the papyri of the Nag Hammadi in the hands of government in Egypt till he was able to photograph the intact pages for translation. Then he was able to unwrap the boondoggle that had tied up the remaining fragments, involved waiting, and anxious scholars and freed the text to the waiting world.
I have long been a follower of his work and I have ephemera from his lectures and career but this book is the best. It is a compilation of writings from various points in his career. The insight he has gained on the subject-Jesus According to the Earliest Witnesses-is deep and rich.
A yes-nonsense book about "Gospel Q"Review Date: 2007-07-13
I didn't like this book. Solely recommended to all those heavenly academic scholars who never really found a way out of their own school. -The introduction of this book begins with the words: "The earliest witness to Jesus is not a person whose name we could name, but rather a collection of his sayings...". And for those willing to see some forgotten sayings of Jesus I personally recommend a book called "The Muslim Jesus" by Tarif Khalidi, which contains over 300 sayings from ancient Islamic sources.

More feminist banter Review Date: 2007-02-08
Whether you find yourself rooting with liberals or conservatives there is no level of scholarship to be found anywhere the truth has been subdued.
Her Own Best InformantReview Date: 2001-02-19
Many of these essays were written early in the second wave of feminism, so the issues they engage point up the degree to which Newton has been ahead of her time. That she narrativizes the essays as the historical life of an academic (herself) attests to the fact that she is still ahead of her time: everything-- political, academic, social, sexual--is lived. There are no categories which happen outside of the people who make them.
Because of Newton's autobiographical, comfortable style, it should be noted that the book, although clearly academic, is a fairly easy read.

Good journalist's view of American Military in BerlinReview Date: 2006-02-19
Interviews were heavily dominated by mid and upper level officers, which is a good start, since, after all, they determined policy; however, a lot of what happened involved us lower ranks - e.g. Checkpoint Charlie behind the desk (been there), mission cars (had some great conversations with some of those people - scarry sometimes) - only touched on in this book, interfaces with Russians (Somebody I knew actually asked the daughter of a "Starshina" - First Sergeant/ Sergeant Major equivalent - for a date. Needless to say, her father stopped that rather quickly.), the guy who removed some bricks from the Wall (our side, obviously. He wasn't THAT crazy.) while the East Germans looked on (that was surreal, to say the least), etc.
This is a great summary, though.

asking big questionsReview Date: 2008-02-27
I lived for years in Minneapolis and was considered crazy enough by people who lived there that certain issues this book raises have also played a part in my own evaluation of how things like undercover sting operations work. It seems rather small compared to war, bombs, the death of journalists, television stations that are bombed for broadcasting propaganda, and the state of politics in 2008, but that merely reflects that I did not escape having a hell opf a context when I left Minneapolis.
There are people who are trying to shape society so that all these things reach an equilibrium in which nobody cares, and reading this book might help you know how they feel.

Good Study AidReview Date: 2005-03-08
That being said, some of the content is a bit old and unnecessary as the test seemed to be oriented more around XP than legacy systems like 95 and NT - although there were NT related questions on the test. Lots of questions about laser printers, which this book covers. You shouldn't rely solely on this book for preparation, and I highly recommend you spend alot of time poking around on your XP box and becoming familiar with all the different menus, tabs, and utilities needed to change configuration settings on XP.
Too many errorsReview Date: 2004-05-10
On another question, the explanation of the question stated the correct answer, but in the answer key, it gave the incorrect letter choice. This is the third A+ book I have purchased and the only one I'm not sure I can trust.
