ONE MORE MISSION: Oliver North Returns to VietnamReview Date: 2002-02-16
a book totally worth reading!Review Date: 1999-10-27
this books takes the reader into the heart of the war in I corps in 1968...it seems a lifetime ago--and yet, for many, it is as real as yesterday. we are, as north points out, a nation in need of healing over the vietnam war. too many people still suffer from ptsd as a consequence of it. they have traumatized their own children.... and society as a whole is poorer for the loss of these individuals.
we owe it to ourselves to understand the war and what happened there--no matter what our own political belief system is. this book goes a long way towards that goal. it also gives practical advice on how we, as decent caring humans, can, without a political agenda, help the people we bombed the s--- out of for 10 years. people who do not, amazingly, hate us for it.
READ IT!!!!
Oliver North Comes to Terms With VietnamReview Date: 2003-07-19
In this book we read North's personal impressions of what it was like to fight in the Vietnam War and he gives us the reasons why he thinks we failed there.
In 1993 Oliver North decided to go back to the country where he fought and finish his mission. Instead of going in a stance of war he went as an agent of peace to bring support, hope and reconciliation.
Oliver North shares with us his views as a born again Christian. He is driven by the teachings of Jesus Christ who calls us to, "Love our enemies." Oliver North does just that. He is driven to bring help to this hurting nation, shackled by a crumbling system of communism.
Oliver North visited Hospitals and Orphanages both hurting and dilapitated. He helped lead the way in bringing aid to these people. It is nice to see North, a professing Christian taking his life in Christ seriously and really going out and showing love to others.
This book is full of unique observations and inspiring actions. It was an enjoyable and quick read.

Testing Applications on the WebReview Date: 2004-10-29
Major rewrite of the best web testing bookReview Date: 2004-06-19
As in the earlier book, this one clearly shows the differences between traditional testing and web testing, which will provide QA professionals who are moving from older environments into web-based systems an orientation and direction. For new QA professionals the chapters on software testing basics, networking and web application components provide a solid foundation. The chapter on mobile web application platforms is unique to this book, and adds true value. Other core material includes test planning, and a sample application and test plan to add realistic scenarios to the material.
Web-specific test advice encompasses UI, functional, server-side, database, help, installation, compatibility, security and performance testing. These cover all facets of the test process and associated procedures in a web-centric environment. Additional chapters include using test scripts, testing mobile web applications, and web testing tools.
While the core content is on the mark and accurate, the appendices are as invaluable. These include a test plan template, weekly status report template, error analysis checklist (with error examples), UI test-case design guidelines (common keyboard navigation/shortcut matrix and mouse action matrix web), test-case design guideline: input boundary and validation matrix, display compatibility test matrix, and browser/OS configuration matrix.
If you test web systems this is the most complete book you can read, and it is destined to attain the same 'classic' status as the first edition.

Dr. Fowler leads the way!Review Date: 2001-03-10
An honest treatment of Evangelical ambivalenceReview Date: 1999-10-21
Fowler mentions what many Evangelicals try to conceal or forget. i.e. in the late 60's many of them were 'pro-choice' and clamoring for relaxing the laws against abortion.
His treatment of Christianity Today's 1968 symposium on abortion and birth control is excellent. It was then that the greatest minds in the Evangelical world got together to discuss abortion (as if the topic had never been addressed in the 1,935 years of Christianity prior to that time).
They concluded NOTHING, only that abortion laws needed to be relaxed, particularly in the cases of failed birh control and handicapped fetuses.
Fowler documents graphically the 'about-face' of prominent Evangelicals such as Dr. Norman Geisler, and Jim Wallis. I wonder if they appreciated it.

Can Berserkers be controlled?Review Date: 1999-05-17
Great Berserker TaleReview Date: 2005-01-12
The time is the distant future, and humanity's war with the Berserker machines still rages. When an assassination touches off a power struggle in the Empire of the Eight Worlds, Prince Harivarman, who has been unwillingly exiled to a space fortress known as the Templar Radiant, senses that his political enemies are moving against him and that his life is in imminent danger. He needs to escape his prison, but since he has no access to an interstellar spaceship and his Templar jailers seem unwilling to help him in his plight, things look desperate. Until, that is, he makes a surprising discovery: a Berserker war machine, damaged but still operable, hidden and forgotten in the Fortress's outer reaches. Then, most startlingly, he finds a way to control it. And so, a plan for escape begins to form. But can a human truly control a machine bent on destroying humanity, once it has been unleashed?
The novel is sort of a cross between a political thriller and space opera. Prince Harivarman is actually a pretty likable main character, even though he knows he is taking a big risk and perhaps jeopardizing the lives of everyone around him. The writing here is very well done; Saberhagen keeps the story tight and flowing, with few distractions, and as a result the book is actually something of a quick read. The only real minus (and its a small one) is that Saberhagen does spend an awful long time setting things up, but once the action starts and Harivarman's plan is set in motion, the book becomes a page turner that you will not want to put down. This one would make a great movie.
All in all, a very fun entry in the series.

Excellent Book for the WardsReview Date: 2000-06-11
Good for InternsReview Date: 2003-10-02
and sub-interns. It has a strong emphasis on patient
evaluation that will be useful for work on the wards
as well as in the ED. It's most handy when you're
trying to round out your differential diagnosis and
want some direction when working up a patient.
Several features that I found to be quite useful are
the cardiology lab for EKG's, the surgical glossary
and syndrome glossary for looking up eponyms. The
problem-based format is much more practical than a
systems or discipline based format and is easier to
use when on general ward rotations. One thing that I
would like to see would be a stronger emphasis on the
practical management of disease. While the Handbook
gives a good foundation in the concepts of management,
I would appreciate more of the nitty-gritty details in
patient care. However, the book is still a handbook
and the emphasis on diagnosis and evaluation is very
useful for interns and sub-I's who are still mastering
the art of differential diagnosis and the work-up of
various illnesses.
Best book for students interested in pediatrics.Review Date: 2006-09-25
