Part III of the "trilogy" is a beautifully done book that you will read again and again. It introduces you to some of the top growers in the world and gives the latest growing techniques. I would suggest getting part II as well.

This is a great follow up to the other two books. It goes into great detail about genetics inparticular. It also covers just about everything else very nicely. As a pumpkin grower myself this book helped me grow a 370.6 pound pumpkin my first year! You could grow one too with the expert advice of this book!

This is a cute little book. I do mean little. It is only 2 or 3 inches wide and 2 or three inches long. It discusses planting, harvesting, and cooking pumpkins. A very easy to read story line that is educational as well.

My kids enjoy this book so much. It is especially nice for young children because the author has limited the text on each page and the illustrations are wonderful. It is enjoyable to read with both my oldest and my youngest.

Beautifully illustrated and extra-sturdy, The Little Pumpkin Book is a great choice to introduce little minds to the world of books. It follows two children through the seasons as they work hard to plant and harvest their own pumpkins, and teaches about patience and life cycles. A charming little story!

My son's kindergarten teacher read this to them this week, and my son and I fell in love with it! A very different story for Halloween, and one that will have your child(ren) wanting to put THEIR jack-o-lantern in the garden instead of the trash, just to see what happens. Terrific story, beautiful illustrations - I'm here to buy several copies to give away as gifts.

My 6 year old son picked this book himself at the library, probably for the colorful, textured drawings but was soon glued to the story of Tim and the pumpkin he named "Jack". The story follows Tim and Jack through a year of seasons and the many physical changes in "Jack" until Jack disintegrates. Later, Tim notices a tiny sprout and later, a whole crop of pumpkins grow! Tim gives them all away except one which he names "Jack" of course.

This is a great little story, far removed from the frightful and cutie-pie ones that are so prevalent at Halloween. Pumpkin Jack is a jack-o-lantern who gradually collapses and dies after Halloween, as all do. We see the little boy through the seasons of his year, occasionally reminded of the old jack-0-lantern. In the spring, a tiny vine begins to grow where the old jack died. The vine, of course, grows pumpkins, which, in the fall, the boy gives away--all but one. Fine watercolor illustrations, which in some places are a bit rough, but the story more than makes up for them. This is what the death of nature in the autumn is all about, beautifully told, with a message of renewal in the end.

My son is planning his own pumpkin patch as a result of reading this book. He is only 5, but in love with holidays and Halloween. He wants to carve 5 jack o'lanterns. He knows that we plant the pumpkins in July. He even knows the name of the author and photographer. This is a great learning tool for us.

My 3 1/2 year old son loves this book. It has some great pictures of the different stages of growth on a pumpkin plant. Also featured are pictures of different types of pumpkins and squash. The story is educational and informative, but simple enough for small children.

A Patch of Pleasure

I purchased The Pumpkin Patch a number of years ago and it is still one of my favorite fall books. The text is direct, going through the stages of pumpkin growth; from seed to harvest, for sale at the Pumpkin Patch, and carving into a jack o'lantern. The large, colorful photographs are a clear asset to the instructional value of the text. I now use this book every fall with primary (K through 3rd grade) students as we learn about pumpkins in the days before our own Pumpkin Patch field trip. It allows us to talk about sequencing (what happens first, next, etc.), how fruits grow from flowers, and the different varieties of pumpkins. The Pumpkin Patch is very educational for children (and adults!) old enough to understand the text and how the sequence of photographs relate to each other.

Two Year Old Loves It

Who knew that our two year old would become so obsessed with this book, but after multiple library renewals we ended up having to buy it.

A book that can work at multiple age levels. The text and growth concepts are too advanced for a two year old, but the pictures are large, clear, colorful, and varied. He claps when we get to the baby pumpkins appearing under the flower.
Good pictures to depict concepts such as big, small, smooth, bumpy, as well as many farm scenes. His favorite of the pumpkin books we have brought home.

I bought this book with some others that I needed, but without being able to page through it. I was hoping for a book with few words but great photos that show the different aspects of pumpkins and growing to share with my preschool special education classroom before our visit to the pumpkin farm. What a happy surprise to find out it was Perfect! It contained some photos of planting that I had no pictures of yet. Plus the written text accentuated the photos. It was short enough that I didn't have to "paraphrase" to my class. Excellent choice!

Pumpkins is a beautifully done book for children, ages 4 - 8. It details through photography a pumpkin from the beginning to the final carved product.

It shows and tells how the farmer plants the seeds, what the new plants look like, how pumpkins form and what they look like and even the many colors, shapes and sizes they come in.

I was really impressed by this beautiful book. The only thing that really bothered me is that there were photography of trick-or-treaters dressed in some really scary costumes-considering the age it is geared to.

If you celebrate Halloween, then you will not want to miss Pumpkins. It will be a wonderful treat for your favorite child.

Written by Ken Robbins, Pumpkins is a picturebook celebration of the edible plant that is cherished as a Halloween symbol. Full-color photography offers a tour of the life of a pumpkin plant, from seeding to flower to fruit and harvest, and finally being carved into a scary jack-o-lantern. The perfect seasonal read-aloud book for Halloween, Pumpkins is especially fun to page through for young pumpkin lovers eagerly looking forward to the holiday season.

This is a fine piece of storytelling. Don Horton has created a work with such intricate design of the human spirit, it is difficult to believe that his characters are fictional. A definite must-read for anyone who enjoys a cup of tea, a fireplace, and words and illustrations that help us realize the true importance of life.

I've purchased this book as a gift for many, many friends and family members. No matter what their religious or cultural background the book resonates with everyone to whom I've given it. Like me, many have made the reading of this story a new Holiday tradition. I find that playing the audio cassette of the book in my car is great season primer, especially when things are just a little too hectic and I forget what the real meaning of Christmas is.

Last year a dear friend of mine was going on a cruise with her family over the Holiday season. Since her grown children were arriving from various parts of the country, I couldn't think of a more appropriate and easy to carry gift than The Chestnut Pan. When she returned from her trip she told me that she had gathered the family in the ship's library and had her son read the story aloud. She said that the simple act of sharing the story together was magical. They experienced a closeness they hadn't known in years. They all shared fond memories of Christmas' spent in Minnesota and chuckled over the many characters in their own lives that resembled those in the book.

The warmth and love written in the pages of this book are spread to all those with whom you share it. This is a beautiful story that immediately comes to life in full living color from beginning to end.

This heart-touching, tear-tugging, humor-laced tale about one family's unusual Christmas tradition will delight and satisfy the appetite of any story-hungry reader. Its family-friendly length and content, with pen-and-ink illustrations that bring the characters to life, is now one of my family's holiday traditions - reading it together and giving it to others. When I finished reading The Chestnut Pan it made me hope that this first book by Donald Horton, a master storyteller, will not be his last.

I went through this book with my mother and I was amazed at how much I learned about her and also vice versa! It was a wonderful tool in our relationship. This guide gave me a more in-depth look at the topics presented in the book Beautiful Girlhood. We had an oppertunity to discuss things we may have never talked about before. I would highly recommed this guide to any one who is interested in gaining a closer mother/dauther relationship or just a better understanding of "girlhood" and its difficulties.

Camille and I enjoy reading the chapters together and going for the challenge. There have been times where Camille and I would groan because we knew we had been the opposite of what God would have us be. This book teaches, rebukes, corrects and encourages us." C.A.
