I bought "This Is Not A Pumpkin" for my 2 year old granddaughter. She loves it! The drawings are simple, clear and colorful, and the text is short and direct. We had fun trying to guess what the drawing was - it certainly looked like a pumpkin!

My kids love this book! They yell out and laugh each time it says, "This is NOT a pumpkin!" It is funny, witty, and visually engaging. I am buying a copy for my friend's daughter now.

Very simple text describes how a pumpkin seed grows into a pumpkin. Mentions root and shoots, flowering, pollination, and maturity. The book design is simple and the photographs are good. There is a glossary, index, and lists for further study. Karen Woodworth Roman, Children's Science Book Review

The part where Peppermint Patty wants a new baseball glove and hopes the Great Pumpkin will give her one is a story from 1975. Just thought you like to know that.
Good job with a familiar story

This is a children's book in which the "plot" of several Peanuts strips is woven together to tell a story for very young readers. Peppermint Patty decides she a] needs to believe in something and b] needs a new ballglove, so she becomes a disciple of Linus and a believer in the Great Pumpkin. Linus is excited until he realizes she is only in it to get something and banishes her and her fake pumpkin patch.
Good fun. Good artwork.

This book was my son's favorite book for about a year and a half. We would read it 2, 3 times a day. He loved it. Very cute story, and my husband uses a different voice when the family is trying to pull the turnip. It cracks my son up!

The author of this story wisely kept it simple and faithful to the original. The ilustrations really stand-out - my kids practically hold their breath (even though they know what's going to happen) as one after the other large-bottomed characters try to pull the turnip out of the ground until finally! they succeed.

Where I live, butternut squash will be coming into the produce section. I'm eagerly waiting for it. Why? So I can roast seeds and toss them in a brown paper bag with homemade curry powder for that fourth Thursday in November.
I'd also like to try the pumpkin soup and risotto. Yum and what reads like the ultimate yum.
The selection of recipes in this gem are varied. Brava! I also have another book of Elsa's and find her style friendly and engaging. Elsa makes me want to get into the kitchen and make something. Another "Brava!"
I also recommend her Cool Smoothies: Juices and Cocktails and Smoothies and Shakes. Tasty-sounding recipes.
Did I convince you? :)

I love all fall fruits and vegetables, and I had to have this little book when I saw it.
There is a picture of each recipe you are making, the are glossy, mouth watering, and let me tell you, I am planning on making every single recipe in this book. There are only 30 or so, but each is written with sense and clarity, and the book would make a perfect present simply because it's so beautiful. Pumpkins aren't the only veggies used, there are also Butternuts and Squash recipes.
Some of my favorite things I made from it; Roasted Pumpkin Salad -to die for, crusty and charred pumpkin chunks, peppers, onions, lentils with lemon, oil and few other yummies. Chile pumpkin babycakes - sweet, spicy fried till golden for major crunch. Pumpkin Soup - warm with holiday written all over it. Spicy Butternut Curry - creamy, hot, melt in your mouth goodness.
This little charmer of a book also has cakes, pies, souffles, stuffed sugar pumpkins, Moroccan Tangine, Kabobs, seeds, chips and granola recipes, pumpkin gnocchi and risottos as well.
No cookie cutter recipes here. I love this book, and always look for ways to cook with it.

This is a wonderful book from my childhood- preserved with my Halloween decorations and brought out to share with my own children once a year. The story is charming- a kingdom, a castle, poor farmers, and a truly revolting Giant make this a delightful Halloween story to read aloud. Reminiscent of some of the milder Roald Dahl stories, it has elements of quasi-historical facts ( well, it COULD'VE happened like that) and just a touch of chilling evil. For ages 4 and up, the only possible objection being that the Giant likes to eat "fat little boys", certainly not any worse than anything Disney puts out year after year!

The Pumpkin Giant is a book that has been around for years but is hard to find. When I first found it after weeks of searching there was only one copy of the book in all of the Kent County Library system. It is about a far away kingodm terroized by the pumpkin giant who eats fat liitle boys and girls. The farmer and his chubby son save the community and the chubby little boy meets up with the king's chubby little daughter and they all live happily ever after. The pumpkin giant slayer becomes the king's grounds keeper and his wife who made pies out of the pumpkin giant's head becomes the head cook. The kingdom is no longer terrorized and all is joy. Very cute story!

We use this book every year to paint about 30-40 pumpkins for table center pieces where I work. We have found, after searching for books on pumpkin painting, that this is our favorite one and we call it "our pumpkin bible". Then, the night of the children's halloween party, we let the kids take them home. All the patterns are easy (even for those who are not artistically talented). We highly recommend it!

This would be the book to take along before boarding the S.S. Minnow. You might also want to take along some acrylic paints, brushes, and a few other items which are clearly listed beside each project. This book would cure boredom over and over again as it contains many different easy-to-duplicate designs for not only pumpkins, but gourds, melons (and possibly coconuts). This book can be helpful for adults as well as children (and even possibly the natives). After all what else would there be to do on that desert isle after the sun goes down?!

From an adult viewpoint, I thoroughly enjoyed this story about a goat show from a goat's perspective and that winning isn't everything - what counts is to take good care of your goat and enjoy your time together.
The illustrations are outstanding!
One observation - "Pumpkin Pie" is obviously a doe, although on the dust jacket, she is referred to as "him".

The Rabbit Ears pieces were/are unbeatable efforts to use audio/video media to tell tales that are complex and simple at the same time. When our daughter was young these were hard to find, but several of them have entered into her life as important touchstones. And, if it matters, the adults still love them: between the music, the interpreters, & the artists it's difficult to imagine a better way to represent these tales in contemporary media. Not every one is perfect ... but each is far better than anything else you'll see.
