This is a good read that maybe the fans of TV shows like 'survivor' or the other adventure shows would like. The search for the shaman take them on a wild and dangerous adventure. Kinda like a Harry Potter for adults, but with subtle magic. The prophecy is kinda vague, but logical, with riddles and fits in with the story. It's a very realistic adventure that really messes with your head as they say. You will think about the book days later after reading . I know I did

Read a lot of adventure books, but this is one of the best. It is so realistic i think the story could pass as non-fiction. Almost everything is believable. From the Indian tribes to the geography, and even the plant life. The characters are developed enough, a little more would be better, but there are only 3 to really get to know each seeking the mysterious shaman (shades of Castaneda)for a different reason. The bad guys, are very real and greedy and i wouldn't want to run into them for any reason. The powerful shaman who tasks the 3 wasn't disappointing, from the origins of man to the prophecy for the next 30 years, really hit a nerve. The tidbits extras at the end and the authors bio, really made me think. I agree, a good adventure story that should make a good movie

An adventure of a lifetime.

This is a fast, and good researched story that could make a hit movie. One wonders about the author, if there are any personal experiences that are drawn upon. The next big, and final date is 2012 . I now feel better about that turning point for the human race. A lot of metaphysical answers and speculations are weaved through out the story. For me it was a profound book, and funny in places. Needless to say, I found it hard to put down. I now want to go to Mexico and visit a shaman, maybe not of the supernatural type though!!!

I really loved this book. It was funny and punny. It reminded me a little of "A Kid in King Arthur's Court". My whole family and I have read all 8 of Wiglaf, Eric(a), and Angus' adventures, and we can't wait for number 9!

Focused on Jesus Christ: The Theme of the Bible

Jesus Christ is the only Redeemer of sinful man. Jesus Christ is the only full revelation of God, as revealed in the Bible. History is utterly dependent on Jesus Christ, who He is and what He is doing. So this book will take you a long way in focusing your interpretation of scripture on what, or Who, scripture is about. Here is a book that is excellent for one wanting to start studying more in depth the MANY attributes and works of Jesus Christ and how all of history revolves around His sovereignty. Mr. Lockyer does a great job and will get you started, expanding your mind beyond the "milk" theology in which so many Christians remain. But be careful. He bought into the very young doctrines of premillennialism and dispensationalism, so you will find his doctrinal explanations as related to the return of Jesus Christ to be "newspaper" theology rather than biblical theology.

A great critique of all the specific and symbolic prophecies

This the best book on the Messianic prophecies that were attributed to Christ! It goes into unprecedented depth in the symbolic messianic prophecies which not too many authors chose to go into. This is an excellent book from an acclaimed author who was beyond 80 years of age when he wrote the book.

I found this book to be quite a page turner! It may be a bit childish and contains a few typographical errors, but it was written by a young writer. With that in mind, I found it to be absolutely fantastic! The ending may shock you. I would definately recommend this book to parents with young readers.

Very funny reading, but sometimes more than amusing. My favorite sections are "Bathifying and Other Virtues" & "Annals of Activism." The intermittent Proverbs are fun, too. Sometimes reading Sparrow is like the game where a person tells you three things and you have to guess which one of the three is True.

"Sometimes only a nightmare can wake you." (Proverbs, page 107)

Witty, weird, intelligent essays abound in Sparrow's great homage to all things that interest him. From detailed sexual escapades ("My Sex with an Ant") to in-depth interviews with great political figures ("Interview with Saddam Hussein!!!!"), Sparrow's blunt, innocent, learned humor is refreshing, awakening, and pungent in my mind.

"Answers for Chicken Little" is probably the best study on Revelation I have ever read. Dan Boone approaches "The Revelation of Jesus to John" as the beautiful continuation of the story of God's relationship with the human race. He does not try to squeeze 21st century situations into the ancient writing, but he does affirm that the story found there is also our story. In "Answers for Chicken Little," you will find an easy-to-read, very understandable approach to what many consider scripture's most difficult text. Happy reading!

If you're uncertain about future elements embedded in the last book of the bible, you might wanna try this one. This book gives a complete different angle on how to look on this "controversial" bible book. Dan Boone let's you get back on what it is really all about in the days when it was written. Not some apocoliptic seince fiction tale to doom us all, just dynamic history told in a curious way. The chapters are short and easy to follow. Add a little humor and voila, Answers for chicken little!

I have always been a bit curious about the last book of the Bible, but understanding it always eluded me. The book was recommended to me by a member of my church, and I feel like I finally understand! It breaks down different parts of scripture, explains how Revelation is an example of apocalyptic literature, and it's helped me understand this book of the Bible rather than be intimidated by it.

Another of Jeffrey's earlier works, this book deals with explanations of many biblical prophecies that some people may find hard to understand. In "Apocalypse" you can learn about the biblical prophecies concerning America (yes, there are some!) why the early church believed in not only the Rapture, but a pre-tribulation rapture, what the final world church will look like and what it will do, what the "Mark of the Beast" might be and how to avoid it for as long as you can, What happened to the "lost" tribes of Israel (they're not as "lost" as you think!) and what happens if you're "Left Behind". A great book for beginners or advanced students of biblical prophecy, this book is recommended if you like any of the "Left Behind" books or Jeffrey's other works.

This book affords a good overview of many prophetic predictions outlined in the Book of Revelation. It favors the literal, premillenial interpretation of the second coming over more historical critical, allegorical interpretations. It's line of argumentation leads to the conclusion that there will be a supernatural transformation of the Earth and a literal resurrection of the dead occurring within the next 50 years.

I am still in the process of reading the book and studing the charts.

Some go along with what we have just studied or will be covering in near future in my class.

I had seen and examined part of the book prior to ordering it.

What I have read to this time is very good. Just takes a little

time study and understand the charts.

If you want charts this is a nice collection

With 119 charts this is an excellent resource for studying or teaching Bible prophecy. There isn't much in terms of explanation but it is still a great resource with some surprises. Some of the charts include a Contrast Between the Abrahamic and Mosaic Covenant, Stages of the Kingdom of God, Biblical Types, Basic Approaches to Eschatology, Harmony of Daniel, Views on the Relationship of Joel, Alternate Determinations of the Seventy Weeks of Daniel, Comparison of Covenant Theology and Dispensationalism, Contrasts between the Rapture Views, Prophetic Significance of Old Testament Offerings, Views on the Millennium, Evaluating Views on Daniel, and even a few charts on the similarities and differences between Muslim, Jewish, and Christian eschatology. With even handed treatment that presents different views in an organized and logical form Charts of Bible Prophecy is a great resource for putting the information into an easy to understand format and teaching eschatology.

CHARTS OF BIBLE PROPHECY categorizes, compares, lists, and illustrates, making Bible prophecy more comprehensible and coherent for the beginner, or sharper for the experienced. Some of the book's larger parts are "Part 11: Daniel and Revelation" with 18 charts, "Part 5: Systems of Eschatology with 13, and "Part 7: The Nation of Israel" with 11.

SIMPLE CHART EXAMPLE: # 76-"Old Testament Tributlation Terms and Expressions," where the chart consists only of 2 columns, the right listing the verse references and the left the corresponding tribulation terms--"birth pangs," "Day of the Lord," "day of vengeance," "day of Jacob's trouble" etc.

COMPLEX CHART EXAMPLE: # 52- "Views on the Rapture," which is divided into 5 subcharts that each represent a view (pre-trib, partial, pre-wrath, midtrib, and post-trib), with each followed by "Statement of View," "Proponents," then 2 columns of arguments for and against. (How clarifying is this format!)

My personal chart favorites are #10-"Contrasts between the Abrahamic and Mosaic Covenants" and #24- "Unfulfilled Prophecy." Some charts incorporate extrabiblical sources, such as #79-"Identity of the Antichrist through the Centuries." Also, though both authors are pre-trib dispensationalists, the book's inclusive in representing different systems of interpretation in the charts.

The Civilization Loop, has left me stunned by its wealth of activity and ability to keep me interested. Having downloaded the book and unable to sit at my computer to read, I was concerned I would loose my interest quickly because of my infrequent sittings. However I was wrong, I found myself thinking about the book and it characters although I had not read it in a few days. I was always on the edge of my seat always wondering what the heck was going to happen next. The chacters are very personable, and their situations extreme. The book is filled with theories of world history & its unknowns that we are too quick to simply accept as "mystery". It is written well, to not confuse the reader. It flowed smoothly & I very much enjoyed it. Thank you Jason for writing this book.

Dr. Robert Peterson is bound by the government and destiny to finish the top-secret project that ended his father's life. The first Dr. Peterson built a time machine, but it destroyed him and everything in its vicinity. His wife and child barely escaped. Now it's Bobby's turn, and the clock is ticking.

Certain people have known the date of the end of the earth for some time now, and they are counting on Bobby to avert it. Thrown into a secret mission, Bobby and his team struggle with science and metaphysics, good and evil, known and unknown-all in the name of continuing existence as they (and we) know it.

They learn that what appears to be the end is only the beginning. Time is cyclical. Changing the past could be exponentially dangerous, or foreordained and necessary. Regardless, they had better figure it out fast, or there will be no one and nothing left.

As a reader and reviewer, I'm torn. There are some editing issues. Some are small and easily passed over, but there are a few that are distracting and confusing.

Periodically religion is interjected into the story. It could enhance the story if you agree with the author's views. It can be skipped over without altering the storyline drastically if it doesn't appeal.

Lacking a science background, the physics involved in the story seem sound and appropriate. The plot line is intricate and well played out, and the characters are well developed and intriguing. At its base, it is quite an interesting take on advanced early civilizations.

Armchair Interviews says: Decent story that could have been better with more editing.

Herman Ridderbos does in biblical theology what Cornelius Van Til does in apologetics: he takes the New Testament self-revelation of God as a given and defends it against all (mainly European) comers in a thorough and scholarly (in the best sense of that word) manner. In fact, he says in the Introduction that the fierce controversy over the kingdom of heaven in the past hundred years is actually "a rich source of instruction to the attentive observer. It is above all the confirmation that the power of divine truth which finds its sublime and most variegated expression in the gospel of the kingdom of heaven again and again triumphs over all human limitations and commitments."Ridderbos puts the kingdom of God in its rightful place at the very center of the gospel preached by Jesus: "the whole of the preaching of Jesus Christ and his apostles is concerned with the kingdom of God, and...in Jesus Christ's proclamation of the kingdom we are face to face with the specific form of expression of the whole of his revelation of God."

If reading this book attentively does not bring you into a quietly intense frame of worship and thanksgiving, you're just not paying attention. It's not pop theology. But it does amply reward the effort it requires.

Great but not for the faint of heart

I bought this book hoping to obtain a deeper understanding and appreciation for what the Kingdom of God as understood biblically. Ridderbos' work is of the highest caliber and exhaustive in its scope. The only reason I gave it four stars is beacause it is a very challenging read. It's not a book you can simply pick up and read, you have to really work at understanding it and following it. Mainly I think because of the abruptness due to it being a translation. (Doesn't flow as fluently as a native English book would).
For someone completely unfamiliar with the Kingdom of God idea and/or not needing a seminary-level discussion of the idea, I would strongly recommend looking at George Eldon Ladd's Book on the same topic. Much less dense. Probably not as scholarly in terms of dealing with liberal lines of thinking (Such as Culmann, Barth, Bultmann, Schweitzer, etc.) but my guess a good start for someone not adept at liberal theology and the historical debates raging around the gospels and the nature of the kingdom.

An excellent look at Jesus' preaching of the Kingdom.

Ridderbos does an excelent job at interpreting Jesus' preaching of the kingdom in the synoptic gospels. This book is redemptive-historical at its finest and when understood gives the reader a good grasp of the whole Bible.
