Very enlightening content poorly written in a New-Age daze.Review Date: 1999-04-09
There is a real message in the book that I believe Redfield happened to stumble upon by accident, or perhaps he heard of true spiritual accounts and tried to immitate them in this book. Keep your wits about you, and be discerning. He should have left these lessons to be taught by those who have had these experiences, or to a real author, who would have put the information across much, much more effectively.
As I said before, find the truth in the book, because it is worth the few bucks, but do it only if you are able to ignore the money-making scheme of it.

It is the singular best book I have found on end-times prophecy. Haggith strikes a balance I have rarely found in any Christian book, much less one on end-times. There is enough bible history and cross-referencing to give each passage a full context without turning it in a dry, scholarly "reference" book that never gets read. Contrary to an earlier reviewer, I did find it to be a "page-turner" as Haggith managed to draw me, in an intelligent, unemotional way, into the *story* of John's vision in a way no other book ever has.
More importantly, Haggith offers the Truth in a simple, unassuming way. There is no agenda, and hardly any "eschatological" jargon. He simply presents the passages, some possible conclusions, and makes sure to throw in the constant reminder that we can never really know for sure, lest we defeat the whole point of prophecy.
A wonderful book for anyone looking for something more than the end-times "soundbites" we tend to get in church. I would recommend this to readers from all denominations, and seekers looking for an intelligent discussion of one of the most visible Christian doctrines.

This book is very very good. To have made it excellent, I would have liked some discussion of the end time genesis itself. Why was there so much obsession with end time philosophies? How did the Jews compare with other cultures in this regard? How did the philosophies change over time? etc.
This book is written so well that almost anyone will enjoy the contents. Familiarity with the Old Testament and Jewish culture in general will make it even more valuable.

Read it. You'll be rewarded. Some things you'll agree with, some things, maybe not. Either way, you'll sense a man writing with far more humility than you'll find in those, "The world is going to end tomorrow, don't miss the rapture" books. The issues he grapples with are far too spiritual and complex to be sorted by snippets and sound bites. It takes a lot of work and study. Start with this book. Don't rush. Don't read it in front of the TV.
As for the fact that he used the King James text, I think it adds to the quaintness of the book. Prophecies are ancient, and the Authorized Text gives them that feel. Anyway, you can check the text in any of the myriad of newer translations out there.
We discriminating readers need to reward this kind of writing by buying it.
Wind Your Watch And "WATCH!"Review Date: 2005-05-31
The first question that will be raised by people Biblically aware, but a bit naive is : Why study the Last Days when Jesus said that they will arrive like a thief in the night; no one knows the day or the hour of their coming, and they could be far into the future? There are several ideas to take into consideration here. First -- Jesus said, "Of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven." (Matt. 24:36) Note that He spoke specifically of days and hours, not necessarily decades or years. HAGGITH says on page 121 that looking at it this way is "being hyperliteral." I don't think so. Jesus chose His words carefully. Furthermore, what might have been unforeseeable two thousand years ago, may be quite perceivable now. Also, if it was still going to be unpredictable even when the age was nearly upon us, why did Jesus bother giving His closest apostles clues to watch for? In Matthew 24 & Mark 13, The Master tells Peter, James, John and Andrew the signs (situations) that will be prevalent on the Earth and related to the end of the world (AS WE KNOW IT!) and His imminent return. Why did He go to the trouble to elucidate the scenario if NO ONE would be capable of discerning the time? And He even concluded with the admonition, "What I say to you, I say to all : Watch!"
Significantly, the Old Testament book of Daniel (also concerned with eschatology) closes with another indication that as the time draws near, at least some of God's people will have foreknowledge of the timing of Tribulation events : And the angel said, "Go your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. Many shall be purified...and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand." (Dan. 12:9,10 - NKJV) It makes sense then to study this subject, especially since several Biblical prophecies concerned with the timing of these momentous events indicate that we are about to enter into the age in question. (Even if Mr. Haggith does not overtly make such a bold statement.)
There are many books on the market that address this subject; most all of them in a more sensationalistic manner. But HAGGITH's approach is very sensible and evinces a highly developed spiritual understanding. His respect for God's Word, and his humility is evident throughout the book. For example, on page 408 he states, "Judgment, as St. John's Gospel emphasizes, is going on all the time throughout our earthly existence." That would appear to be a basic premise, but one you will find eluding many of the more well-known Christian commentators! On page 450, Haggith observes that, "Humility comes from confidence in the goodness and justice and love of God." There is much wisdom in his writing that goes beyond a strict adherence to the book's primary theme. His equating the patterns of Biblical truth and prophecies with fractals, and his observation that, "Jesus never did a miracle that wasn't a metaphor for spiritual truth" are just two more examples of his great insight, no doubt derived from a warm association with The Holy Spirit. END-TIME PROPHECIES OF THE BIBLE also has a wonderfully extensive index that will make it easy for the reader to refer back to certain topics at a later date.
DAVID HAGGITH also understands the necessity to refrain from inflexible positions when exploring the nature of Biblical prophecy. This idea, and his personal humility shine through in this excerpt from page 459 :
"Simply linking passages as I've done in this book can distort meaning if the wrong links are forged. If the reader sees a more natural fit for any prophecy than where it has been placed, he or she should explore that connection...It's best to keep one's opinions about God's revelation fluid and allow the God who makes all things new to shape one's opinions over time and to reshape oneself in the process. A dogmatic stance on words the Bible, itself, describes as ultimate mysteries belittles the greatness of God. It presumptuously assumes that the human mind can fully comprehend God's mysteries."
END-TIME PROPHECIES OF THE BIBLE is a very thorough, thought-provoking, open-minded, and scholarly study. I am normally stingy with my 5-Star rating, but I am awarding the top grade to Haggith's study because, as far as I know, it is the best book of its kind. If you are very serious about exploring the Bible, and seek publications that will help you to develop the capacity to examine theological concepts from a variety of perspectives, this book will surely be a welcome addition to your personal library. Other than Salvation, it's the best thing that I ever got for free!

If you have been wrinkling your forehead and wondering at the doctrines and opinions coming from the "emerging church", this book will help you remember why many things sounded strange to you. It will also encourage you to continue in your own study so as not to be led astray.

From what I have observed, it seems common for Emerging Church followers to say that those who critique The Emerging Church are "taking things out of context", yet I have never heard ANY of them tell what is being taken out of context. It just seems to be their standard response (a cop-out) when they can't give an honest defense for what they believe.
So I recommend that people check out this book before believing any accusations that have been made about Roger Oakland. He critiques The Emerging Church in a very fair manner, and unless anyone can tell him what is being taken out of context, his stance will rightly remain the same.

Though he has given up his faith, Simon turns to a pair of priests who knew his uncle, in the hope that they can help him with his bizarre blackouts. Eventually, he discovers that he is a part of an little known prophecy that will have immense implications for Christianity and the world.
I personally love stories that blend Christianity and fiction and LeCara does it well. He creates a wholly believable scenario and then delivers the goods in a superbly written climax that will leave you, like some of the characters, wondering what in the world just happened. And I mean that in a good way!
LeCara writes believable good characters and some unbelievably nasty, evil ones. I'm not certain which is the more malevolent: the man who is possessed or the man who simply wants to use his religion for his own gain. In either case, LeCara creates several truly evil characters.
My only criticism is that in attempting to portray his characters as realistic, they sometimes come off as, well, jerks. But that is a pretty forgivable flaw.
I very much enjoyed The Forgotten Prophecy and I am certainly looking forward to seeing what Ray LeCara Jr. has in store in the future.

The End is Near...Are You Ready?Review Date: 2007-01-04
Thirteen years later, a young man named Simon Free is faced will the usual pressures of becoming a married man, with a child on the way, who is still in college. Thinking that is all that is troubling him, he starts to experience black outs. Assuming the episodes are just from stress due to the prospect of becoming a father without any source of income, he tries to put these black outs to the back his mind, but as they become more and more frequent, he seeks medical advice. Simon soon finds that doctors cannot help him and, being a man who has lost his faith, it is with some reluctance that he seeks the help and guidance of a priest. It is only through regaining his faith that he discovers who he is and what he needs to do in the mighty battle that rages around him.
The Forgotten Prophecy is the debut novel from Ray LeCara, Jr. It is an engaging story with many original ideas. Fans of this sort of fiction will be used to the devil or "The Evil One" trying to force his way into politics and occupy the corridors of power (as in The Omen,) with the ultimate goal of becoming the president of the United States. This is where LeCara's story veers from the norm. After all, why would "The Evil One" try to inhabit the White House? Why would he not try to corrupt from within and infiltrate the Vatican? Think about it - most laws are based in religion, and who do such powers consult, when in a difficult situation - their minister or their priest!
The Forgotten Prophecy, is a gripping and promising debut - in sum, truly a great beginning to LeCara's saga. We have only one minor criticism - the fact that "The Evil One" is trying to infiltrate the Vatican is a wonderful and novel concept, but Spinetinglers felt that it was not exploited to its full potential. Hopefully, this will be corrected in the second instalment and we at Spinetinglers look forward to reading it!

"Our Lady of Dreams"Review Date: 2008-04-29
"Our Lady of Dreams" purports to be written by Katherine Marconi, neophyte prosecutor in the L.A. District Attorney's office. When she lands the coveted assignment of a high-profile murder, she is shocked to discover the man brutally killed is her estranged brother, John Paul.
It is a credit to Duvall's remarkable and often beautiful writing, that the reader feels the agony of Marconi's loss nearly as painfully as Marconi. The reader longs to help her solve the crime and the mystery behind her brother's murder.
Duvall's characters are textured. John Paul, the estranged brother, intended to be a priest and instead became a well known religious guru, perhaps a saint. Falling under his spell is the rising star football player accused of his murder, Thomas.
Much of the novel is written as portions of Thomas' diary. The reader feels almost as if they are eavesdropping on private thoughts - and intimate secrets.
A layer is added to the story in Thomas' request that his diary be published within 10 years of his death. You feel the urgency in the words written by Duvall (as Marconi) to share the message in time.
Take the spiritual twists and turns, add a strongly crafted love story between Marconi and the lead detective in the case, pepper in a hidden secret - and Duvall's masterpiece equals an engaging delight the reader will not be able to put down until the crime - and accompanying mysteries - are solved. The carefully crafted words linger on the readers mind much less like your standard crime drama, and much more like a touching work of art.
"Our Lady of Dreams" certainly makes a lovely summer beach read, but this thought provoking and breathtaking work is much more than a standard thriller. It is elegant, tasteful, and stays with the reader long after the last page has turned. The cover on this book is closed much too quickly.

Where is the God of Elijah ?Review Date: 2006-06-06
As for Rick's discerment, you only have to look at the man he constantly promoted over the past 15 years as the new breed of the prophetic , Paul Cain . Recently it was been publically revealed the depths of bondage the man was addicted to and the deep spiritual darkness he was in . If Rick couldn't even "see" the problems that one of his own fellow ministers has , how can he say he's gifted in a discerning ministry ? It really saddens me to write this review, but at some point you have to speak out and say when someone is mistaken in their claims and is not promoting a true prophetic calling.

A Bit Disappointed...Review Date: 2005-07-09
I received the book today, and anxiously began reading it. However, within the first chapter, I was already beginning to feel a tinge of disappointment.
"The Visitation" is about Mary Summer Rain's visit from an archangel "of the Most High", and the info./warning that was received. It mainly focuses on the 10 commandments, and how man has distorted their meaning - not taking the time to really THINK about what they were meant to impart.
The parts I was disappointed with are:
1. Summer seems to continually look down on the people of today - as if all, or most, couldn't care less about God. I don't agree with this, as I believe that people DO care, but many think it's wrong to think for themselves, to choose their own belief systems. They've been taught from early on that to question is to sin.
2. Summer seemed to insinuate that the books written by the other "messengers" of our time are inaccurate & filled with "glitz". It sounded as if someone received a message that differed from hers, than that person was writing from their ego, and therefore, it's not truth.
My belief is that God has brought many different messages to many different people - not everyone is on the same page, so not everyone would be ready for the same message. My thought is that you'll know the truthfulness of the message by the "fruit that it bears" - so, if it's message of unconditional love &/or other positive "traits", then it's worth considering & pondering over.
3. Mary Summer Rain eludes continuously to major problems in her family life that preceeded this visit, but she never goes into any detail. I kept waiting to get an understanding of these problems, since she would bring them up in a very general manner often - but it was never to be. I would have preferred her to either not mention it at all, or just make a very general statement in the beginning & then just let it go. I can understand that she may not want to lay bare her soul to her readers - but, if that's the case, it would have been better to just not mention it at all.
Overall, I think this book does contain some important insights, but they tend to get clouded by the negative judgements that appear all too often. So, although I REALLY hate to do it, I feel that I have to give this book a "3" rating - I just wouldn't feel comfortable giving it any more or less.

The Heavens Declare the Glory of God!Review Date: 2005-05-10
How thrilling it was to discover Amazon had 'The Witness of the Stars,' available for review. Published posthumously, the work displays the integrity of E.W. Bullinger's efforts to apply several major disciplines of scholarship as he introduces this edifying unveiling of God's Glory proclaimed across the sky. Mr. Bullinger entered the Lord's presence nearly a century ago in 1913!
'The Witness of the Stars,' provides scholastic, historical, and Biblical insight into God's own testimony as to the past, present and future of mankind. What a wind of refreshment in a world seemingly helpless and out of control.
A first mention of the thesis that God has written the Gospel in the Stars was introduced to this reviewer while in Bible School, 1975-76, by since graduated Evangelist Lester Roloff. Mr. Roloff had been inspired to examine this field partly because, as a traveling evangelist, he actually flew his own plane from meeting to meeting. He testified to ever being humbled during night flights across the earth. Having been introduced through Scripture's own declarations concerning God's setting the Heavens to declare His Glory, Psalm 19:1, Mr. Roloff went on to pen his findings.
And then how encouraging to read the reviews already given. Only the first handful of entries were able to be perused, yet, they proved the depths discerned on a mere first reading of 'Witness.' This book is a must purchase for any seeking truth.
One reading simply whets the appetite to discover and plumb the depths of Mr. Bullinger's myriad offerings.
Kudos to Amazon for making this book on eternal truth available to the world. Salutations to all in the Lord that have confirmed one's own impressions were in perspective.

1. Constellations and star names are simply assignments that man has assigned to stars. Usually pagan cultures in association with their pagan mythology. Although this does not completely undermine such a study it does call it into question.
2. A second more serious problem is the same problem which underlies numerology and other allegorical approaches-- they can often be made to say anything the author even while at the same time appearing scholarly.
Those looking for apologetics in the cosmos should consider investigating the "anthropic principle" which tracks evidence of God's design of the universe. One such book would be "Show me God" by Fred Hereen. In terms of our faith, In my opinion, God's Word itself furnishes a lifetime of study without engaging in speculation of symbols which we really can't prove one way or the other.
Whew! What a mindfull!Review Date: 2005-10-25
Nonetheless, I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know what God originally intended for constellations and stars to mean. There is a ton of information here, symbology, astronomy, and theology.
