The Little Voice with a Big MessageReview Date: 2008-07-27
Mr. Mulder has indeed presented us with an immense life, and we still have more "L's" to go. Plus, his evident love and enthrallment with the world down-under inspires. The carefully crafted description of Sydney and its pristine environs compliments the work.
I recommend Moments & Milestones highly, starting with Little and going through to the last L (whatever that will be), which I am looking forward to reading. I am now proceeding to Loving, and then to Lunacy with all the interest of a newbie at life's circus. "Come one, come all. Step right up and listen to that little voice . . . ah, another L-word, but I think an important one, for there is plenty to "l"isten to in "l"ittle's voice.
AwakeningsReview Date: 2008-07-13
Though he has not yet discovered all the answers to life, in truth his journey seems to have only just begun, Mulder is definitely a man on a mission. Truth has become his goal.
Where that quest takes him is anyone's guess, but I for one intend to be there as the hoped for answers are revealed.
"Powerful Stuff"Review Date: 2008-07-07
"Looking" is a good title for this 5th chapter of his memoir. It details how he made a change and began looking for who he wanted to be and the efforts he made to be that person. It talks of his success as he left his former self behind. There is a golden light at the end of this tunnel....and once again I find myself anxious to explore the next installment of his book.
Lifted and LookinReview Date: 2008-07-07
He gives hope where none is expected and passion where missed. Shows love and concern for the lonely and opens your eyes to a new reality with his discoveries.
Highly recommended and still wanting more...
I look forward to the next installment.

joyful affirmation of God's presence among us. Thomas Curley offers a
detailed account of his remarkable discoveries and miraculous
experiences in the past twenty years.
I
finished the book with a
powerful realization. Comparative theology is not only useful but, to
those with right
motivation and spiritual understanding, it becomes a
ladder to God. Without rejecting his solid Catholic background,
Curley
embarked on an exploration of other spiritual traditions. In the
course of his quest, he encountered extraordinary
sages like Swami
Muktananda, Benjamin Creme, and a relatively unknown Pakistani
initiate, remarkable individuals
like an American diplomat with direct
experiences of the Masters of Wisdom, and a luminous string of fellow
seekers
of truth. In the end, Curley revisits his own religion with
renewed fervor and deeper understanding. Faith and trust
in God is all
we need to experience bliss and recognize the presence of the
Christ.
An evident disciple of Jesus,
the author shares his
spiritual pilgrimage with millions of fellow Christians. May they heed
his generous call and
begin to see that behind the wooden Christ of
dogma awaits the living One of Love.

Showers is awesome!Review Date: 2008-04-21
CRITICAL Foundation for Understanding the End Times....Review Date: 2006-04-03
The title is both a name of God used by the prophet Daniel as well as the theme of the book of Daniel--i.e., that God is sovereign, or "most high" over men, nations, and rulers, humbling and exalting whom He will (individuals, rulers, nations), in control of history, and even telling us in advance what will happen. This book is a verse-by-verse commentary on all of Daniel, a book that is about more than prophecy, though Daniel's chapters 2, 7, and 9 do focus on prophecy and are absolutely essential to understanding when the Messiah will come again, the geographic origins of the Antichrist, the upcoming 7-year covenant with Israel with its rebuilt Holy Place, the Man of Sin World Ruler, and more, including chapters 6-19 of Revelation, which are based on Daniel.
I recommend this book to people wanting to understand the End Times but who are unaware that the Tribulation, the coming confederated superpower, and the "Antichrist" of Revelation all refer back to Daniel. Although Renald Showers is relatively unknown to popular audiences (he's not the type to toot his own horn), he's known, respected, and cited among dispensational theologians. If there are few reviews for this book, it's not because this book is some fly-by-night, it's just that Showers' writings are mostly known through his decades of work with The Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry. Doctrinally, Showers is top-notch, always precise, never going beyond the text into eisegesis. He writes from a "pre-trib, pre-mil" view, that the rapture happens before the Tribulation that in turn is before the Millenium.
The Most High God, like Showers' other works, is known for doctrinal faithfulness, eschewing speculation and sensationalism, and adherence to a literal, historical-grammatical approach to interpretation. Some of his books (such as his masterpiece Maranatha) are heavy with indexes and endnotes, but not The Most High God, which keeps it simple, straightforward, and suitable for the beginner, yet it's still helpful for readers already familiar with Daniel. This book shows how scripture-to-scripture comparison, history, and context give insight into the symbolic prophetic images, such as the 10-headed beast. Showers does not get into alternative, comparative interpretations of Daniel, for that try Walvoord's Daniel: The Key to Prophetic Revelation. The Bible says that the book of Daniel is "sealed" until the End Times, that'd be now, and I can't recommend this commentary on Daniel highly enough as a starting point to making sense of what is happening in the world and what will happen.

The main antagonist in the story, Jaerak Thorin, is not only evil, he is intelligent and seductive. Despite his obvious black-hearted nature, Rich is able to make the reader hope that Jaerak Thorin is not as bad as he appears. Much like other loved villains, one hopes Jaerak may be redeemed from his evil ways.
The story is full of the lore of Ms. Rich's world which adds depth and history to the story. With the captivating style of storytelling, this book is truly a gem waiting to be found!

Large promise in the small charactersReview Date: 2001-11-06
-- though there be no dragons here. But the true gems of the story aren't those Jaerak finds or the Seekers talk of; they are found in those characters who seem to have come the most naturally and who people the story with spirits we can recognize, though they do not stride so boldly across the landscape. Sketched without artifice or heavy embroidery, they rise seemlessly from the needs of the story and serve it utterly without outside influence or awkward pretension, providing the best evidence of what this author can do and what readers have to look forward to.

Valuable, no matter what your backgroundReview Date: 2008-08-01
I was also impressed with the quality of analysis that went in to the various outlines provided for the book of Revelation. There are actually three different outlines included. They will help people of any interpretive approach make better sense of the book.
Since the author is an Amillennialist, I wish he'd spent more time pitching the theoretical strengths of that system. When, towards the end of the book, the millennium is addressed, it is quickly brushed aside as just another example of how God will win. While this is true in a sense, there was no attempt to refer to the literally hundreds of Old Testament references to it, and how they can be explained as allegories (as opposed to literal fulfillment).
His argument that most people get more hung up on the puzzle than the pictures is an excellent one. For that reason, I'd suggest this book to anyone studying the book of Revelation.
Short, Sweet & Refreshing bookReview Date: 2006-03-01
Dr. Beale (2004's E.T.S. President) recommends this book as part of his course recommended reading on Revelation at Wheaton. Of the 8 or so books he recommends, this one sports a number of great visual concepts that do empower bible teachers and pastors. As a pastor who is preaching through Revelation from the Greek text, I found his material helpful on the application side of things.
For example, on the four major views on Revelation Poythress supplies a great little visual diagram of how the four views look. Just the diagram alone can help many people understand the four different view (Preterist, Futurist, Historical, and Idealist) more than most commentaries would.
The weakness is that you will not have comments of substance on every question in Revelation. It's not meant to be an exhaustive commentary on Revelation.
Enjoy it. It's well written and worth owning a copy.
Great Introduction to RevelationReview Date: 2002-11-27
It was written as an introduction and is very successful as such. It is not a thorough commentary of Revelation. If you have never studied Revelation this is a great place to start.
The Book of Revelation Made Slightly Less DifficultReview Date: 2003-07-29
At the time this book had not been published but I was able to get some tapes by Poythress, and they taught what is written in this book. When the book came out I got it right away and I have to say that I was not disappointed in the tapes or in this book.
Poythress writes like a kindly, wise elder. I say he is kind because, though he takes a position on the interpretation of the book, he is gracious to those who disagree with him. One of the things I particularly liked about this book is his discussion of how to outline the book. He listed a few different ways that this could be outlined, but rather than attacking various positions he affirmed that the existence of these differing views should cause us to marvel at the greatness of God in the book. These things show that the book of Revelation is like a giant tapestry, with many colors and patterns weaving in and out. The book is so rich that one can never tire of admiring the beauties of God in it.
As to his position, Poythress says that the book follows the pattern of recapitulation - it describes the same historical events over and over again using different metaphors and pictures. So, rather than being a straight chronological description of the end time, the book of Revelation describes the second coming, and the events surrounding it, several times.
Poythress shows that the book of Revelation is actually comprised of several cycles of judgment. He gives the tools for understanding how to identify these cycles and in doing so makes Revelation slightly less difficult.
This is the place to start in understanding the book of Revelation.

At the top next to Beale on RevelationReview Date: 2006-06-13
It's a first rate commentary with opinions that true scholars and regular pastors learn to respect even if they do not agree with him on every point. Sometimes when reading Beale there are so many references to apocalyptic literature and other sources that one can get overwhelmed. Osborne doesn't give as many references, but the other reviewer is correct...he's easier to read than Beale or Aune. I have several hundred dollars of the best commentaries I could find on Revelation. This one is one of the few that almost always makes it in my book bag (and it's pretty thick). I am unwilling to go without it when I have the potential of preparing a sermon at home rather than my office.
He sets apart special comments and exegetical points in shaded frames for quick reference. One time when we were discussing a particularly detailed and crucial point in class Dr. Beale excitedly said, I've got to call Osborne about this....which shows that if one of the top scholars in the world on Revelation is excited about calling Osborne...he must be great. And as I've used him, I agree. His stuff is great.
When they diverge, I usually go with Beale, but Osborne makes one think carefully and helps you work through issues in a different way than Beale does. The big differences are that Osborne has smooth reading, fewer references to research on most points, but about as much material in general as Beale.
Any pastor who is preaching from Revelation should refer to Osborne as well as Beale for indepth background on almost every nuance of the text one can imagine. So although I cannot say I agree with every single point in this book...it's easily a five star commentary that you need in your library and open on your desk as you research the textual issues and depths of this incredible grand finale of the bible...the book of Revelation.

Yet most who daily read the most popular book in the world, have never comprehended the last chapter, the Book of Revelation.
"Becoming Empire" identifies hundreds of 'hyper-links' in the text of Revelation to the preceding books of holy scriptures. The veil lifts, and the reader begins to see and hear not fictions of starwars, but God moving through history and pointing to the here and now.
Today is the battle, and God's children are in the front lines. The whole Bible, understood, is their map to victory.

Looking - Section five, finds the author using his new found sense of self-worth empowering him to become an adventurer. Traveling overseas in a hopeful search for both purpose and meaning. It is at this point that the story really became engaging for me. Life in a strange and exotic land with romantic love seemingly just around the corner. Exciting!
The pace of the writing seems much more clear to me now, though still furiously frenetic. Perhaps I am just becoming used to the author's style.
Lifted and Looking provides a bouncy almost buoyant feel good adventure that completely enthralls the reader.
Up next is 'Loving'! (The story I originally picked this book up to read.) Can't wait!
