Prophecy The Books

This is a great academic text about the Book of Revelation, but it is also a fascinating uncovering of Roman cultural curiosities. The author, for example, documents the importance of theatrical spectacle to imperial Rome, in which spectators gazed upon gladiator combats and the public display of monstrosities from other lands (such as exotic animals). Spectacle thus functioned to (in the author's words) "produce [sic] knowledge for all its participants" (p.35). He then shows how the Book of Revelation adopts the motifs of spectacle and monstrosity to Christian effect, setting the imperium of Rome up as the "Beast" that is at war with the "Lamb," and in which saints and sinners function as spectators to this cosmic battle.

In reading this book, I couldn't help but be reminded of Neitzsche's reflections on Dionysian theatre (in "The Birth of Tragedy") and how he thought that it enacted for the audience the duality of human existence (between the Apollonian and the Dionysian).

Especially interesting to me was the section on Roman ekphrasis (the art of detailed verbal description, usually of art) as part of the training of Roman rhetors. In other words, generating word-pictures for hearers functioned as a legitimate technique in audience persuasion. In short, "Spectacles of Empire" does a great job situating the Book of Revelation as both a cultural and rhetorical product of ancient Rome.

ABSOLUTELY get the book and let it speak for itself.

I enjoyed this book, the simple way it was written made it easy to read and understand, even though some of the visions challenged my paradigm of the world. I could relate to the "grandfathers" concern for "mother nature" and it made sense of some of the disasters that have been happening all over the world. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK

The Yorgason's, in contrast to their usual upbeat, engrossing story-telling, have written a book that has even more relevance today than when it was first published over 15 years ago.
In an easy to understand, but very sobering style, they speak of the conditions prior to the Second Coming, and what to do to be prepared-- spiritually, emotionally, and temporally.
They don't pull any punches regarding the immorality, greed, and corruption of society as a whole nor when they address personal righteousness and spirituality, but they offer strong threads of hope and the means whereby anyone, whether LDS or not, can "stand in holy places and be not moved" until the Lord returns.

I met the author while deployed for Operation Noble Eagle. When we were parting after the termination of our deployment he mentioned he was writting a book. I bought it new when it was first released. I have finally read it and I must say I really enjoyed it. I came back to Amazon to see if he had written a follow-up. I hope he does, I really want to live the next David Alexander adventure. This would make a great movie. He has some errors and shows signs of being a first time writer, but my goodness I truly enjoyed it. WRITE ANOTHER ONE PLEASE!

Psychic detective Armand Marcotte wrote about the information he received about the encroachment of end times and manner in which human being should conduct themselves in order to be among those God would accept - God's "Soldiers of the Light" - from 1995 to his passing in 1999 due to cancer. Ann Druffel, the transcriber of Armand's recordings, became struck with inspiration in 2000; as if guided by Armand's spirit, she penned six more chapters. I have been familiar with this subject since the sixties and read more than a just a few books concerning THESE times. Glenn Guest has covered many details that has never crossed my mind. This easy to read book certainly got my attention and Steps Towards the Mark of the Beast opened my understanding to the degree to where that I am better prepared to face THESE oncoming days that are here at our door. It is a terrible shame that Pastors across the land are so focused on prosperity that - due to their lust and greed - the blinded masses are about to be caught unaware and will unknowingly participate in the denying of the true Jesus Christ. Thank you, Pastor Glenn Guest, for being obedient to what the Lord has led you to do. I am praying and believing that you will continue to follow Him.

The Roman Catholic Church went through her ups and downs and became the nation called Vatican City State. Then she got special access to the USA through diplomatic protocol that no other "church" on earth has. I always wondered why the USA Government made all those Catholic holidays into federal law.

President John F. Kennedy's secret Vatican connections were never exposed by the elite media (the same ones who did not report about his adultery with women did not inform us about his adulterous church-state affairs). So it turns out JFK implemented the pope's encyclical Pacem en Terris into our public policies. Meanwhile the church made Pacem en Terris the cornerstone of Vatican II's church-state manifesto. President LBJ took over after they knocked off JFK and adopted all of his Catholic policies which every single President since their terms have contributed to implementing. I am mad as hell at the news media for not exposing the Government's involvement with the Vatican!!!

All those ancient nations in the Bible book of Daniel gave rise to the modern nations on the map in the Middle East today. The most interesting thing to me was the secret national archives documents that prove what the end-time world order is going to be.

The intertwined roles of Zionist Israel, the Vatican, and the USA in causing Armageddon is what surprises me the most; this part was so fascinating because it really makes the Bible relevant to us today. The historical details prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt.

But the most surprising thing to me is the hidden meaning that the authors found deep in the original Greek word (derived from Hebrew) translated as "Armageddon." They are the first to put this landmark word into proper perspective ... marking something fabulous that is about to happen to the world. Nobody has explained the proper context of the word ever before.

This book along with Dave Hunt's book, Y2k: A reasoned response to mass Hysteria should be read by all Christians who have bought into the Y2K Madness that is occuring in the evangelical churches today. We need to get back to getting the gospel out, not preparing for the end of the world.

THE STORY OF PROPHECY IN THE LIFE OF MANKIND FROM EARLY TIMES TO THE PRESENT DAY (hereafter TSP) by Henry James Forman (New York: Tudor Publishing Co., 1936/1940) is a well-written, level-headed, engaging, and still relevant--if dated--story narrative on the subject of clairvoyant prophecy (foretelling) as it has shown itself down through the course of human history. TSP is NOT an examination of eclusively Judeo-Christian subjects, though a number are included, but a panoramic view beginning with the Great Pyramid in Egypt and running to the present day. Forman with ironic eloquence chides the skeptics and the scoffers of the mid-twentieth century with more than a dozen chapters of documented evidence to support the veracity of the many clairvoyant phenomena witnessed throughout the world over thousands of years. TSP includes an interior diagram of the Great Pyramid and twelve b/w (black and white) plates of paintings or photographs of notable prophetic personalties from history. Endnotes, bibliography, and general index are also included. The most amazing moment in this book comes on page 73 when Forman states that "Pyramid prophecy does not run . . . . [past] September 2001 A.D., mankind, pyramidologists believe, will have reached another stage in its growth, another civilization--perhaps a theocratic world-state--and all things will be made new." TSP is recommended to all prophetic persons, and others, who may be interested in expanding their understanding of what has already been communicated through many different personalities, and by what variety of means.
