I met Jenny, the author, at a 2006 summertime Dylan show, spontaneously bought her book outside the venue, and immediately read it cover to cover with tremendous joy. Her insights are incisive and succinct, and while her conclusions are not phenomenologically scientific in the Aristotelean sense, they are perfectly true hermeneutically in addressing the enigmas and parables embedded within the textuality of Dylan's verse. Plus, she is absolutely dreamy and delicious, as are all holy beings! I recommend this meditation to any person interested in peace through art and song in these modern times, and who cares to expand the limits of his or her perspective and the diminishing horizon of contemporary creativity.

Exciting Read From Start to Finish!

Every chapter in this tale is packed with page-turning excitement. Five teens, the Chosen of Azar, are adopted by two Commanders of the Barrand Guards and brought to Haven's Hold. All five are endowed with magic that is not fully developed. They must learn how to utilize and control it. Haven's Hold, a fortress community, is the hub of the story. It came into existence with the magic of Mo Demz, a disciple of the god Azar. It houses the Barrand Guards, the Sect, and the trainees. The Barrand Guards are the most elite warriors on the lands. The Sect is a group of women with power magic that oversee the training of young women with magic. It is Condragon, the evil god and Azar's brother, who is spreading his evil creatures throughout the land and threatening the races of people.

The Chosen are abruptly uprooted and brought into this highly disciplined atmosphere. The future of Azar's creation rests on their shoulders. Like a multi-faceted gem, this tale reflects the personalities and quirks of its characters. It is packed with suspense. At times it will have you sitting on the edge of your chair. At others you will laugh and you may even shed a tear. This is one of those novels that will keep you up because you will want to keep reading. I strongly recommend it.

Look out Star Wars! This fantasy novel has it all! Action, romance, drama, humor, and intrigue. The land of Azar might be fantasy, but you will find yourself living within this world as you read. The benovolent family of Mo Demz not only take strangers into their family, but the reader as well. I shared joy as The Chosen of Azar set out on their quest. I cried whenever disaster stuck (although I'm not giving anything away) The hair on my arms actually stood up during one particularly "hair raising" scene. I can't wait to get my hands on, THE PROPHECY UNFOLDS-PART 2! My advice is buy them both at the same time so you don't have to wait!

The Prophecy Unfolds is a true page-turner. When Prophecy arrived, I was looking for a new "favorite author." I had read all the latest by my old favorites and was having trouble adding a new name to my list. I had read a little by Carol Kluz and had enjoyed short pieces by her, but had not read one of her books. Prophecy had that magic spark which keeps us returning to buy more from that author.

This fantasy book is an adventure story of a culture preparing for war. New leaders must be found. Although five young people are identified by the patron Goddess, they must develop their skills and prove their worth by finding the talismans which are the keys to their future powers.

Two of these five young people, Beni (male) and Jenda (female), stand out in this volume. The other three "chosen" sparkle in the background. Ms. Kluz teases us with just enough interaction with the other three, and with a boy named Miko, that I look forward to becoming friends with them in the next volumes.

Myself, as a retired professor, I felt closest to the teachers and trainers of these realistically developed young people. As in real life, the teachers end up learning the deepest insights about life while trying to guide their pupils.

A small warning about the book -- be patient with the first nine pages or even skip them. As is done in many fantasy books, the beginning is full of description. The real action, motivations, and interactions start on pages 9 and 10. You will find real people from there onward.

One of the great insights of the book emerges on page 355. Jenda, a driven young woman who has worked hard to succeed says, "I wish we didn't have our talismans so we could search for them again." For her, as is true for many of us, the achievement of the first major hurdle only leads to more difficult, and often less applauded, problems to solve.

Such a controversial subject among believers can only be resolved in the light of the Holy Spirit. The author seems to be blessed with a deep understanding of the scriptures and the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Excellent reading for anyone interested in a Biblically sound understanding of the New Testament gift of Prophesy.

The Primer on Prophecy

Review Date: 2002-02-16
When I discovered the gift of prophecy (a discovery that came late in life as my right-wing fundamentalist upbringing caused me to miss out on this sweet kiss from God in my younger years) I read just about every prophecy book I could get my hands on. From the truly bizarre and misguided to the genuinely helpful and beautiful. I now recommend Sullivant's book to everyone as the one-stop beautiful shop. I read Michael Sullivant's book last, and I have to say that I find it to be the best. The reason I love it so is because it isn't just about the gift of prophecy. Instead, it is about being a child of God and living out that relationship lovingly and obediently. One could "plug in" any spiritual gift in the place of Sullivant's discussion of prophecy and the book would still be as powerful. But having said that, I have to add that it is a real and powerful blessing to read Sullivant's humble perspective on the gift of prophecy. Michael, having been powerfully gifted in the prophetic for a long time, obviously knows what he is talking about, and he writes beautifully and humbly.

I say that Sullivant's book is the "best," but Jack Deere's "Surprised by the Voice of God" book is also extremely wonderful and is essential. Very much so. In fact, I think that it is a "requirement" for any person of "my heritage" to read Deere's book FIRST, because Deere takes the time to address all the issues that any cessationist (I hate that word) type would raise. After addressing these issues, then Deere goes on to talk about prophecy. Sullivant doesn't feel the need to baby-sit the reader, and plunges right into the whole prophecy picture. Thus, I believe that Deere's book is "essential" for beginners-in-prophecy (or any "gifts" for that matter), and that Sullivant's book is essential as the next step in looking at prophecy in a mature and humble light of ministry. I really like the writing styles of both Deere and Sullivant. After reading Sullivant's book, I want to find him and introduce myself and just "hang" with him.

Incredible Insight

Michael Sullivant definitely DOES have special insight into the prophetic gifts, just as Paul Cain says. This book is more conceptual than practical. (If you want practical tips on the prophetic, I suggest: "You May All Prophesy!" by Steve Thompson and "The Beginner's Guide to the Gift of Prophecy" by Jack Deere.) He shares foundational truths about the prophetic, which has released me from some lies that I've learned regarding how prophecy is supposed to operate in the church.

This book is very good for those who don't believe that prophecy is for today or have their doubts about hearing from other believers. I have used a specific chapter several times when talking to unbelievers about God and His requirements on speaking to people today.

He also lays down a basis for a "new breed" of prophets who aren't like the old typical (and many times offensive!) people. He has a chapter "What does humility look like?" that blew me away. Also, one of his other chapters changed my life in reference to "everything in moderation." I got a serious desire for being holy just as God is holy.

I strongly suggest buying this book. It will change your walk with God and re-lay truths about the prophetic that need to be taught.

Outstanding summary of Puritan's motivation for missions.

Review Date: 1998-07-22
From a historical survey, Murray details the relationship of Puritan postmillennialism to their motivation for world missions. Missionaries went boldly into various parts of the earth knowing that Christ has already won the victory over Satan's kingdom at the cross and had promised the victory of the church in history. "All authority has been given unto me in heaven and on earth, go therefore and teach...make disciples of all nations...I am with you even unto the end of the age." "I will build my church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it."

Thoughtful defense of Puritan eschatology

Review Date: 1998-12-30
Murray's thoughtful book challenges evangelicals to re-examine their thinking about the return of Christ. He carefully develops the basis for the sense of conviction and purpose that motivated Carey, Wilberforce and many others to do great works for Christ. Arguing that the "fullness of the Gentiles" must precede the conversion of Israel as prophecied in Romans 11, and that both of these events have not yet occurred, and that they portend far greater influence and triumph for the Church on the Earth, Murray lovingly challenges those who are of a "sit at home and wait for the rapture" mentality. He explains how and why the Puritans came to their eschatological beliefs; how these were perverted, primarily in modern times, by men like Edward Irving and J.N. Darby; why we've stopped thinking critically about these theories; and how we must recapture the confident expectation of Christ's triumphant end-time revival of Gentiles, then all Israel, before his return in glory. Excellent and thought-provoking.

A Landmark Work

Review Date: 2005-04-17
I read this book as part of an extensive research project in eschatology, and it had a definite and important impact on my thinking, not just in "end times" events, but in understanding the Puritan theological heritage of modern Christianity and it implications for today. Released in the early 70's when dispensationalism was at it's height, this book resurrects the old Puritan view and gives it a new hearing.

This book is not a text on eschatology in the proper sense of the word. Murray does not delineate various views and weigh them against different kinds of evidence. Instead what he does is demonstrate that the theology of the Reformation, and especially the Puritans was a victorious-minded postmillennialism which looked forward to Christ's conquest of the nations, and the conversion of the Jews. He then demonstrates convincingly that many good fruits sprang from this hope especially world missions, and many cancers appeared when it was progressively replaced with a dispensational hope of Christ's 'imminent' return. For those from a strong dispensational perspective this may be too much to digest in one session, although the work is not abraisive, however for the rest of us who have been affected by dispensational thought indirectly the ideas in this book are a powerful antidote.

This book would be an excellent tool in any study of Church History, World Missions, or Eschatology.

Finis J. Dake was a leader in my opinion on the subject of eschatology or end-time teaching. Brother Dake never focused on current events like a lot of these modern end-time teachers do. This book is scriptural and sane in it's approach to the subject. Brother Dake makes this subject simple in this book. With all the confusion that teachers of this subject give to us, we finally have material that is a sane, rational and understandable approach to the subject. This book should forever disprove all the falacies out there on the subject. I also highly recommend his books "Revelation Expounded", and "God's Plan For Man". Both of these books have a lot of good information in them concerning end-time events!

Don't settle for only the Dake Study Bible!

Some people purchase a Dake Study bible yet never take the time to read his other books. The Dake Study bible is a good start of course but you shoudn't ignore his secondary work which could be considered scripture in it's own right. These writings are still deuterocanonical work and (like Bono) should be read and studied with full exegetical commitment.

This book, along with a Dake Study Bible and U2's Under a Blood Red Sky should be on you must read/listen list. I'd suggest that all of them become part of your spiritual/religous library within the first few months of studying dake-bonoist principles.

THE Book on Pre-Trib Rapture

Dake spells it all out in black and white: here's a statement, and here's all the Bible verses to back it up.

For every topic he gives proofs galore. There's also several sections of "Fallacies" where he BIBLICY disproves many "assumed" beliefs.

If you need factual encouragement of your Pre-Trib beliefs or would like in-context proofs of why this is the way things will occur, I'd heavily recommend this book.

I have finished reading the book "Redemption Realized Through Christ" and find it to be and excellent study resource. "Redemption Realized Through Christ" brings the reader face to face with the scriptures. Over 2000 scripture references are cited in the text of this book and the expounding of scripture is clear and stimulating. The format the author chose is nearly narrative in nature--- a very unique style! This book is much like the plan of God's redemption for mankind--- staight-forward and clear. I recommend it for an indepth study of how redemption is and can be realized only through Jesus Christ! Praise His Name!

Use the paragraph above for what you wish. If it's too long, feel free to edit it. I really did enjoy the clear style you used in the book. Also, I liked how you began at the fall, (where you needed to begin of course) and tied all of the plan of redemption together. Of course, it was really God who originally did it!!!! :~)

Redemption Realized Through Christ is a book deeply needed by the church of our day. With the increase of pietistic thinking present in churches, and the general lack of doctrinal understanding, Redemption Realized Through Christ is an extensive look at the teachings of the Bible relating to redemption. The reader will gain a deeper insight into this vital aspect of the Christian life. The author covers redemption in wide angle fashion. From the need for redemption, to the appropriation of redemption, this treatise will benefit the newly converted to the seasoned bible student.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! I especially enjoyed the conversational style of communication, almost as if I were there participating with Jon.

Jon provides as good an interpretation of Scripture both logical and illogical as anyone I have heard or read on Revelation. By this I mean, a person's own beliefs may parallel Jon's interpretation at multiple points yet diverge at others; but, the common goal is to know Jesus Christ. There are many names for Jesus, one of which is Love.

So, if you have been "looking for Love in all the wrong places", Jon's book is a beacon of light indicating the direction to travel. If you already know the "Source" of Love, then you will be blessed by this book.

When I plan to read a new book I first read and look at the cover, inside and out, front and back. I pay particular attention to pictures, graphics, words, fonts, font sizes and the overall quality (or lack of it). Covers encourage my interest or not. A quality cover usually contains quality, as well as a multitude of, information.

I then glance through the Table of Contents, Index, Glossary, Appendixes, etc. if the book has any. I then begin to read the book, again beginning at the front cover then continuing each page in it's proper sequence. Each has a purpose and place in the book and each reveals quality information, even the blank ones.

I have just begun a quality book, written by a quality friend and I haven't begun the first chapter yet!
