For scripture searches and their meaning from a premillennial veiwpoint, this is a great work. Small print to fill pages in 3 volumes attests to its magnitude. This work is gold in a mine of confused writers. A lifetime work that is greatly appreciated by me and my premil. brethren. Enjoy.

Astounding Work Explains the True Meaning of the Kingdom

"Absolutely riveting logical presentation of the Kingdom of Christ foretold in the O.T. While a reference work, this treatise unfolds like a mini-series with lucid and scriptural explanations of the meaning of Messiah's Kingdom in relation to the Abrahamic/Davidic covenants and the real meaning of the New Covenant in the NT. A panoramic presentation of church history is woven in and hundreds of familiar names and their works are cited. It will strengthen your faith clear up much confusion on the role of the Church (definitely NOT the promised Kingdom) in God's plan for the Ages. Drop everything and read this work, highlight it, study it, and share it with your brethren."

Sharon Blanchard, Washington reader, 01/24/03:
I love books and avidly read 5 or more each week; but, when it comes to the volume of Christian books available, they ALL are filled with the authors' opinions regarding the Bible, God and Christ. I'm sick of that! So, it was a welcome surprise to find "Today, Jesus Said" refreshingly void of so much as one writer opinion. It is well written in easy to comprehend language, constantly moving, straight to the point, and all paraphrased scripture with verse references supplied so we readers can compare it to our own Bible. Finally! Someone understands what Jesus meant when He condemned flattering lips spewing smooth words full of man's doctrine and traditions. If this book doesn't fly off the shelves, then the world truly does NOT want to know God's opinion.

I read "Today, Jesus Said" and then gave it to my pastor for his opinion. He later said, "Well...the world isn't going to like it. But! It's all scripture and ALL truth. I could find nothing wrong with it." I believe I've found a truly anointed author and can't wait to read her next book interpreting The Revelation: "Bind Up the Testimony, Seal the Law"

Review Date: 2003-02-25
Have you ever wished that you could meet Jesus face-to-face and hear his story directly from Him? Well, this book is probably as close as you will get to that in this world. Ms. Quesinberry, using the first person narrative voice, speaks to the reader as Jesus might. Starting with the creation of the world, Jesus paraphrases the books of the Bible in a contemporary, easy to follow manner. He details his birth, life and death, and how it all ties together with God's plan for Earth from beginning to end. From Genesis through Revelation within 135 pages with all scripture references provided.

Ms. Quesinberry urges readers to forget everything taught them from corporate Christendom's global pulpits: rather, she encourages them to study their Bibles for themselves, including instructions on how and why: all with scripture. This book is very well-written and encouraging, and would make a great companion for Bible study. I highly recommend it.

I love a good story, and this book was a great read. Even though it looked like a big book when I first picked it up, I got into it right away and finished it in a couple of plane rides. It's reminiscent of the movie Gladiator in setting and action, and is a really solid story, not your typical paperback action book you pick up in an airport newstand. I also definitely got into the characters, I love reading a book about someone who is just a minor person in another work, but is developed into a protagonist, with a fascinating history, purpose, romances, life (as in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead vs. Hamlet). This book goes into the life of Barabbas from the Bible, of whom all the bible tells us is that he was freed and Christ was crucified. The story explores why he was doomed for crucifixion, what his purpose in life was, and what happened when he was freed at the will of the people of Israel. I also love the historical accuracy, I learned a few new things about Roman and Jewish customs. I like pretty much any story about ancient Rome. On top of that, there was one scene that really moved me. I don't want to give too much away, so I'll just say I definitely recommend this book for some fun reading!

Great work of Historical Fiction

Review Date: 2007-03-11
Maybe its because I haven't read fiction for a while, but I found this book totally engrossing. Of course, historical fiction has always been one of my favorites. This book is basically the story of Barabbas whom we all know better as the zealot who was freed from prison and replaced by Jesus on the cross. The book revolves around Barabbas and his band of zealots as they oppose Roman dominance in Judea. Their animosity towards their Roman overlords and the virulent battles that ensue present us with a view of a violent time in history complete with religious extremism and government corruption. Perhaps that much hasn't changed after two thousand years?

Most of the story takes place after his release from crucifixion. While Jesus plays a relatively minor role in the story, his followers provide a backdrop against which the violence is contrasted. Barabbas' release is actually part of the story and his zealous ways are contrasted with the new-found, peaceful beliefs of the followers of Christ. A quest for a hidden "copper scroll" that reveals the location of an ancient Jewish treasure provides the impetus that drives the story to its conclusion. Yes, greed, depravity, brutality, blind obedience to power, and treachery all play a part in the story. I should say no more lest I reveal the ending.

In short, if you are a Christian, don't let the fact that Jesus is not a central character throw you off. In no way does this book minimize Christ's importance or effect on civilization. If you are not of a religious bent, enjoy it for its' historical context and to catch a glimpse of a turbulent period. But most of all, read it because it is a great story that will have you turning pages and telling your friends.

Excellent read, it will keep you interested to the end!

I usually read about 1 book a week and I was looking for something new and different. I certainly found that in Sean Young's new book. This book was thoroughly researched, well written and he keeps the pace up throughout the book. When I picked up the book I was interested in the Copper Scroll and the treasure that it was protecting, never suspecting the other plots that ran through the book. Action, suspense, romance, twists and turns and a lead character that you will grow to love. Sean now ranks at the top of my list of favorite authors and I highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a good read and interesting tale. I am looking forward to his next endeavor.

The length of this book scared me at first. It's a long one. But I was very intrigued by the idea of a story of Barrabus, and so I was looking forward to this book's release. I can tell you I was not disappointed in the least.

The sheer amount of fight in Barrabus and the rest of the zealots is amazing. Strong charcters abound in this story, from Barrabus himself to Gaius the centurion to Deborah the prostitute to Leila the merchant's daughter. All of them important, and all of them well drawn and beleivable. This book really does take you back to another time and place, as author Jeremy Robinson has said. It's obvious a great deal of time was spent on research.

Start with Barrabus' quest to free Isreal from Rome, add a myserious copper scroll that hides a secret that could save or destroy nations, and mix in a prefect who will stop at nothing to get it. Stir those together and you have a fantastic story that more than once had me up past my bedtime because I simply could not sleep unless I knew what happened next.

Violent Sands is easily one of the best books I have ever read. I will be hoping for more work from Young in the future.

Amazing detail and, from what I can see, accuracy. The subject of biblical prophecy is probably the most difficult to discuss. Not only for its complexity, but because there are so many people ready to shoot any theory down. Those who know "The Way" know better and agree with the author.

The book was extermely complex and rich with scripture and I kept the Bible at my side the whole time I read this book.

Wow!! Just when you think that your family and a small handful of God-given friends are the only ones -- BAM -- you find out there are thousands more in caves just like you!! After being impressed by the Holy Spirit about the Second Exodus, we have searched for over two years for more material on this subject. Thank you Dan for the years of study that you undertook to bring this information to the surface. Thank you, Lord, for giving Dan the courage to put it in print. If you desire to dive deeper into what God has planned for His Children at the end of this age; because you surely wouldn't want to miss it, read and run with this word to all who will receive it. Alongside your Bible, this information will be pivotal in the days ahead. Let this book (and the entire series of books in the wings) cause you to press in hard and be in that place of safety where God needs for you to be (so you can be a blessing to others) as we prepare for the Greatest End-Time Move of God the nations will ever see!!! Even though this book was written after 9/11 and before the hurricanes of 2005 (Katrina, Rita, etc.) it sounds a clarion biblical call to a nation and a church steeped in sin and experiencing the just consequences. The previous reviews do an excellent job of covering the content of the book, so no further description is needed here. Suffice it to say that Dr. Melon appears to have his ear tuned to the heartbeat of the sovereign Lord.

If you like a "neat and tidy" God, this book is not for you. Then again, neither would be the Bible. Using the Minor Prophets, Dr. Melon raises some serious questions about the role of God in 9/11. Dr. Melon very well may be a "voice crying in the wilderness" to an evangelical church that has either lost its moral compass (the liberals) or baptized the current Bush administration's global agenda (the conservatives)to the level of divine decree. I hope this first work by Dr. Melon is not his last.

Not for the faint of heart.

A friend in the ministry recommended this book to me. At first I was skeptical thinking that the book would be just another "rant" about what is wrong with the USA. Dr. Melon's book, however, is a biblical, reasoned, and well-researched treatise on God's role in national and natural tragedies.
Dr. Melon begins by surveying God's relationship to Israel in the Old Testament. From there, he moves to God's relationship to Gentile nations in the Old Testament. He concludes by making application to God's role among Gentile nations (specifically the USA) today. Dr. Melon asks and answers difficult questions such as, "For what reasons might God send judgment to a nation today? If God were to send judgment to a nation today, what would it look like? How would people respond? How might the church respond? How would political leaders respond? Do acts of God often appear to be acts of evil?"
Dr. Melon's book is useful on a number of levels. First, it is an excellent brief survey of the Hebrew Minor Prophets, their time period, and their role in Israelite society. Second, it gives pastors useful guidelines on preaching these difficult books. Third, it causes the reader to re-evaluate the possible role of God in the 9/11 events. And lastly, Dr. Melon (whose theology is thoroughly conservative) takes conservative evangelicalism to task for their promotion of civil religion, nationalism, patriotic fervor and uncritical alliance with the present Bush presidency.

There is a true prophet among us

Review Date: 2004-06-21
Few books have caused me to reevaluate my theology as much as this one. Melon (a conservative Southern Baptist pastor) looks at the events of 9/11 and subsequent wars through the eyes of the OT Minor Prophets. Melon asks the conservative evangelical church a question, If prior to the events of 9/11, the conservative evangelical community warned that if "God did not judge the USA than He will owe Sodom and Gomorrah an apology," than why did the same church respond to the events of 9/11 by proclaiming "God didn't do this," and then promote Augustinian "Just-War" theology?
Using a question and answer format that leads the reader from the time of the Minor Prophets to current events, Melon takes the conservative church to task for not considering the judicial work of God. Was 9/11 an act of evil, an act of God, or simply the reality of living in a sin-infected world?
The intended target of the book is pastors and teachers. The goal of the book is twofold. First, to encourage pastors/teachers to consider God's judicial activity in national or natural crisis. Second, to help pastors avoid common "pitfalls" when preaching prophetically.
Melon is quick to declare that his book is not an "end-times" prophecy book about how current events are fulfillment of any eschatological scenario. This book is opposed to such "pop-theology."
Both liberal and conservative churches are taken to task. Liberal churches for surrendering to post-modern morality. Conservative churches for their extreme nationalism and marriage to George W. Bush.
Pastor's who are uncomfortable with the much of the evangelical communities' promotion of "just war" theory as a primary response to 9/11 will find this book helpful. Pastors who have promoted "just war" and Christian patriotism, along with "God and Country" celebrations in their churches in support of the war effort will be challenged biblically to reconsider their positions.
As Melon warns, if the church is found declaring the wrong message in light of 9/11, what greater catastrophes lie on the horizon?

The judgment of God, the Minor prophets, and 9/11
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2004-08-10
Conservative theology collides with the liberal and conservative church. Melon takes the reader from the world of the biblical Minor Prophets (Hosea through Malachi) to the events of 9/11. Melon surveys the Minor Prophets and draws together their common elements, style, occasions, and purposes to develop a biblical understanding of the nature of prophecy and the role of a prophet in society. Using a question and answer format, Melon develops 14 "guidelines" for prophetic preaching in an age of terror. For example: "(1) Prophetic preaching reveals that one God is in control of history and is bringing history to His final conclusion. (3) The main thrust of prophetic preaching is calling people back to God. (4) Prophetic preaching reveals that God's love is punitive as well as restorative. (6) Prophetic preaching brings hope to God's people who may be terrorized. (8) Prophetic preaching exposes social injustice (both foreign and domestic) and holds national leaders accountable."
If the book were to stop there, it would be well worth the price for any pastor who desires to faithfully preach these neglected books. Melon, however, takes his guidelines and contrasts both the conservative (Charles Colson, Southern Baptists, Jerry Falwell, etc.) and liberal churches response to 9/11. He faults the liberal church for surrendering to contemporary culture. He faults the conservative church for surrendering to nationalism and patriotism. Anyone reading this book will not remain unscathed.

A very scholarly, well researched exposure of the real meaning of the scriptures, eliminating much of the esoteric meanings in the obscure, ambiguous and seemingly contradictory passages and enlightening us as to the meaning of terms in use at that time. By paralleling the recorded history of the times and the written word of the gospels we are ably guided to concur with the author that the apocalypse is a fait accompli. The bible and gospels should be understood not with the modern accepted meaning of the word but that of the meaning in use at the time of the writing. A fascinating, well written, book that is sure to captivate your attention. Highly recommended to searchers of the truth whether you be a bible reader or not.

Reading the Signs of the Times: Apocalypse no longer " Greek to me"

Review Date: 2006-09-30
The quirky, doughnut-scarfing author of this book is proof positive that God is no respecter of persons when he chooses his Prophets. Rigorous attention to grammar and syntax results in precision not only of meaning, but understanding that meaning: Stephen Paul's rigorous attention to the simple words of the Greek of the Apocalypse demonstrates the innaccuracies of previous English translations of the Bible's last book about things to come. Paying close attention to textual use of metaphorical and literal statements , Paul makes the Apocalypse astoundingly conprehensible in the contemporary context; and useful as a practical guide for "reading the signs of our times" explaining the spiritual zeitgeist precipitating the rise of the Anti-Christ--.
Coincidentally, I read this book just after reading "Hope of the Wicked" by Ted Flynn: Stephen Paul's book delineates the spiritual dynamic, --and Flynn's the socio-politic arena where history is forged by current events. Reading both these books in conjunction makes for an eerie but coherent picture of what will soon be upon us. Fear not, --but hold on to your hats; it's gonna get worse before it gets better . . . .

The Lay Voice Reclaiming the Apocalypse

The great good of this book is that it is written by someone who does not owe his first born to academia or some dicastery of the Church. This is the voice of a layman during this hour of the laity, to borrow from Pope John Paul II. His insights seem fresh and new, and indeed some are like long lost treasures brought out once more into the light.

On occasion he makes a declaration or takes a decision one may wish he did not. But no one should be looking for infallibility in this work. What one will find is the inspiration of the Holy Spirit touching the author with a reading of the Revelation to St. John that is a great help to all us during the times in which we live.

I no longer esteem the works of Biblical literary critics or those who must grind out verbiage in order to keep their niche in academia. This account is far more trustworthy because it is honest about what it is and because it is far more concerned about being faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ and his Church than serving some earthly-minded agenda.

At first I found the author's style confusing. He seemed to jump around. And then I realized that was the whole point. You need to compare different sections of the Book of Revelation to each other to determine what they mean. "By indirection, find direction out," the author says. By the end, you understand.

After years of working with the lume plants that have exponentially killed their friends and family, the Shodites demand that their overseer Daka Redd provide a safe and healthy environment. Arrogant Redd ignores the demands. The Shodites go on strike, but Redd declares that his slaves have started hostilities. His spiritual advisor the Betnoni the Ver dala Ven warns him to heed the peoples' voice or else one Daka son per generation will fall. They will also lose the connection to the Masing star that aids the Ver dala Ven, who will no longer exist. Redd rejects his Ver dala Ven advisor.

One millennium later, Cobo of the Betnonis believes that he is the only living Ver dala Ven until he learns that he has a teenage son Taen from his passionate love making with Daka leader Jishni before his exile eighteen years ago. Cobo does not know for certainty whether his abusive son raised by his beloved and his uncle has the power. However, Cobo will learn the lad does not have the personality for Taen plans to use his biological sire to take control while Cobo wants to fulfill the prophecy by opening the last gate to the missing Masing Star..

The first book of the Last Gate septology is a tremendous political fantasy thriller that contains a richly developed cast (past and present) that make believers out of the audience. Especially intriguing is the antagonists locked in a pivotal battle that seems Freudian. World builder extraordinaire Elizabeth Merz provides a strong opening tale that besides the upcoming sequels, begs for Daka Redd's tale to be written in depth in its own novel.

Betnoni's Prophecy is the first book in The Last Gate series. From the prologue:

"The Last Gate is set on a world very much like our own Earth. Humans dominate the world, but theirs is a world of science, technology and magic. It is actually two stories existing side by side, and interwoven with each other. On one side are the dakas of Jantideva, a family of monarchs that virtually rule the world through the Alliance of Nations. On the other side is an almost extinct race of people called Ver dala Ven. Cobo is one of the last members of the golden-eyed people who are given the right to serve the Guardian and the Masing Star.

A thousand years before the story begins, one of the dakas, Daka Redd, tried to force the people of Shodalum, to work in the deadly lume factories with no thought to what the chemicals did to their health. The Guardian became angry, and took (allowed to die or killed) all the Ver dala Ven, who served the dakas as healers and advisors, except one in every generation. The Masing Star, whose constant song could be heard by all and brought peace to the souls of all the races, fell silent. But Betnoni, the Ver dala Ven who had stopped Daka Redd's attack on the striking Shodites, left a prophecy which no one understood until it started coming true..."

Though her curse became so accepted that it took on her name, with the passage of time the holders of her secret hardly took note of the prophecy."

The Shodites operated the lume plants that supplied the lume the Dakas had become dependent upon to fuel their windriders. From Chapter 1:

"Lume produced a waste product that caused instantaneous death when used on a living being; a clean and bloodless death that melted the internal organs of the victim seconds after absorption. In a society that had not known war for five thousand years, the production of weapons was the ultimate waste of lives and currency. Redd, however, was ambitious."

Ver dala Ven Corbo tries to put an end to the slavery of the Shodites and reconcile them with the Dakas in order to bring back the song of the Masing Star and to bring all the people of The Last Gate under the protection of the Guardian again.

In Betnoni's Prophecy Elizabeth A. Merz has created a world of love, families, mercy, religion, exploitation, war, cruelty-all the aspects of life in our world, but intensified by mutation and mutilation worse than any this world has seen to date-intensified by the ability of some of the characters to read the minds of others. Ms. Mrz has done an incredible job of portraying the stories of all the classes of citizens of The Last Gate so that the reader identifies and champions characters who are inevitably going to harm each other-they have no choice. This ability to elicit sympathy for the heroes and heroines of opposing camps is the mark of a master story teller and Betnoni's Prophecy proves Elizabeth A. Merz has mastered her craft.

Betnoni's Prophecy didn't end with all or even most of the loose ends tied up. In fact it didn't end-even after 308 pages. This reader only hopes the next book in the series starts where this book stopped, because there are characters left in peril, with no resolution.

Betnoni's Prophecy is a dramatic science fiction epic saga, the first title in a seven novel series called "The Last Gate". The last of an ancient race must follow an ancient prophecy to bring the Last Gate into the world. Very highly recommended for fantasy fans and science fiction enthusiasts, Betnoni's Prophecy is an evocative story filled with sensual description and exotic culture blended with down-to-earth heroes and villains.

"ONE & ONLY" Amil/Pret book that doesn't bailout & jump ship

If you love to get your Revelation views from the front page of today's newspaper, then you will destest this book. If your favorite preachers are those who love to get their Reveltion views from the front page of today's newspaper, then you'll really desest this book. And if you think that Hal Lidsey and Tim LaHaye are significant scholars on Revelation, then you will absolutely hate this book.
BUT if you are a true student of the Bible and love expository teaching, then get ready to have your socks blessed off.
Jim takes a "preterist" view of Revelation and powerfully supports that view. He insists that the reader be consistent with the 12+ scriptures in Revelation that limit the time period for fulfillment of the book to a time that was "soon to take place". NOT "SOON" from 2005, but "SOON" from 79 AD. He also makes the "symbolic" nature of Revelation crystal clear.
And what makes his book the "top of the heap" of preterist commentaries on Revelation is his exposition of chapter 21. Jim is the "ONE & ONLY" perterist commentator who doesn't "bailout" or "jump ship" when it comes to chapter 21.
So to say that there isn't another commentary on Revelation like Jim's isn't an exaggeration. God bless. Mike

Great stuff. Although some things he doesn't cover enough I say. I don't have a list of pro's n con's really, I read this book over a year ago. It is on my list of good commentaries of the book of Revelation. However, I think that commentaries on this book are best when eat the meat of each one and spit out the bones, seeing which views and exegetics work best with harmony of Scripture and history. Jim's book is great, but don't stop with this one, also read "Revelation: Jesus Christ's Last Message of Hope" by Wayne Jackson as well as "An Eschatology of Victory" By J. Marcellus Kik. These are my top 3 recommendations for studying the apocalpyse. There are views by all that I don't believe are biblically irrefutable but we're saved by grace, afterall, not irrefutability in apocalypses. Enjoy your book!

This is the best work on Revelation that I have read. Jim gives a very scholarly approach and looks at the symbolism contained in the Old Testament to unlock the meaning that the original readers of Revelation no doubt were very familiar with. This approach makes so much more sense with the rest of the scriptures than the premillinial view point does. Jim's style of writing is so easy to read, yet he gets to the very heart of the message that was intended by John when he wrote the book. Thank you, Jim.

I have consulted almost 100 commentaries in my study on this grand book of the scriptures, but none possess the provocative and dynamic aspects as Jim's Revelation. As with all commentaries by Jim McGuiggan, he presents the material in a conversational manner, which exhibits his keen insights into the scriptures and tremendously helps the lay student. For years Revelation has been a perplexity and an enigma, which has prompted too many students to put it on the shelf and leave it to the "scholars." However, I suggest that with the help of this book, Revelation comes to life and enables the student to understand it in its historical and literary setting. On the other hand, many authors abuse this grand book in today's religious environment. McGuiggan will aptly quail the heresies that are being taught in many of these modern commentaries such as the doctrines of the "rapture," the "tribulation," and the "millennial reign." He will have the reader focus his thoughts of Revelation in their true Biblical sense--as literary figures to be understood symbolically. I am unable to do this book any sort of justice in the minor space I am allowed, but I do suggest that any student's library is incomplete if they do not own this book!
