I'M SICK OF THAT!Review Date: 2003-02-25
I love books and avidly read 5 or more each week; but, when it comes to the volume of Christian books available, they ALL are filled with the authors' opinions regarding the Bible, God and Christ. I'm sick of that! So, it was a welcome surprise to find "Today, Jesus Said" refreshingly void of so much as one writer opinion. It is well written in easy to comprehend language, constantly moving, straight to the point, and all paraphrased scripture with verse references supplied so we readers can compare it to our own Bible. Finally! Someone understands what Jesus meant when He condemned flattering lips spewing smooth words full of man's doctrine and traditions. If this book doesn't fly off the shelves, then the world truly does NOT want to know God's opinion.
Today, Jesus Said FABULOUSReview Date: 2003-02-25
"Today, Jesus Said" is fabulous! I can see where it must have taken years of study and research to complete. I hope that it is doing well.
Today, Jesus Said is FANTASTICReview Date: 2003-02-25
"Today, Jesus Said" is THERE! I mean, right-in-your-face THERE and all of it scripture like we talk today. It's so hard-hitting that I can read only one chapter at a time. This book is fantastic!
The World Won't Like It!Review Date: 2003-03-10
I read "Today, Jesus Said" and then gave it to my pastor for his opinion. He later said, "Well...the world isn't going to like it. But! It's all scripture and ALL truth. I could find nothing wrong with it." I believe I've found a truly anointed author and can't wait to read her next book interpreting The Revelation: "Bind Up the Testimony, Seal the Law"
The next best thing to meeting Jesus face-to-face.Review Date: 2003-02-25
Ms. Quesinberry urges readers to forget everything taught them from corporate Christendom's global pulpits: rather, she encourages them to study their Bibles for themselves, including instructions on how and why: all with scripture. This book is very well-written and encouraging, and would make a great companion for Bible study. I highly recommend it.

Great work of Historical FictionReview Date: 2007-03-11
Most of the story takes place after his release from crucifixion. While Jesus plays a relatively minor role in the story, his followers provide a backdrop against which the violence is contrasted. Barabbas' release is actually part of the story and his zealous ways are contrasted with the new-found, peaceful beliefs of the followers of Christ. A quest for a hidden "copper scroll" that reveals the location of an ancient Jewish treasure provides the impetus that drives the story to its conclusion. Yes, greed, depravity, brutality, blind obedience to power, and treachery all play a part in the story. I should say no more lest I reveal the ending.
In short, if you are a Christian, don't let the fact that Jesus is not a central character throw you off. In no way does this book minimize Christ's importance or effect on civilization. If you are not of a religious bent, enjoy it for its' historical context and to catch a glimpse of a turbulent period. But most of all, read it because it is a great story that will have you turning pages and telling your friends.
Excellent read, it will keep you interested to the end!Review Date: 2007-03-06
Incredible! One of the best books I have ever read.Review Date: 2007-01-20
The sheer amount of fight in Barrabus and the rest of the zealots is amazing. Strong charcters abound in this story, from Barrabus himself to Gaius the centurion to Deborah the prostitute to Leila the merchant's daughter. All of them important, and all of them well drawn and beleivable. This book really does take you back to another time and place, as author Jeremy Robinson has said. It's obvious a great deal of time was spent on research.
Start with Barrabus' quest to free Isreal from Rome, add a myserious copper scroll that hides a secret that could save or destroy nations, and mix in a prefect who will stop at nothing to get it. Stir those together and you have a fantastic story that more than once had me up past my bedtime because I simply could not sleep unless I knew what happened next.
Violent Sands is easily one of the best books I have ever read. I will be hoping for more work from Young in the future.

A Lion has roared- Amos 3:8Review Date: 2004-08-09
Not for the faint of heart.Review Date: 2004-07-31
Dr. Melon begins by surveying God's relationship to Israel in the Old Testament. From there, he moves to God's relationship to Gentile nations in the Old Testament. He concludes by making application to God's role among Gentile nations (specifically the USA) today. Dr. Melon asks and answers difficult questions such as, "For what reasons might God send judgment to a nation today? If God were to send judgment to a nation today, what would it look like? How would people respond? How might the church respond? How would political leaders respond? Do acts of God often appear to be acts of evil?"
Dr. Melon's book is useful on a number of levels. First, it is an excellent brief survey of the Hebrew Minor Prophets, their time period, and their role in Israelite society. Second, it gives pastors useful guidelines on preaching these difficult books. Third, it causes the reader to re-evaluate the possible role of God in the 9/11 events. And lastly, Dr. Melon (whose theology is thoroughly conservative) takes conservative evangelicalism to task for their promotion of civil religion, nationalism, patriotic fervor and uncritical alliance with the present Bush presidency.
There is a true prophet among usReview Date: 2004-06-21
Using a question and answer format that leads the reader from the time of the Minor Prophets to current events, Melon takes the conservative church to task for not considering the judicial work of God. Was 9/11 an act of evil, an act of God, or simply the reality of living in a sin-infected world?
The intended target of the book is pastors and teachers. The goal of the book is twofold. First, to encourage pastors/teachers to consider God's judicial activity in national or natural crisis. Second, to help pastors avoid common "pitfalls" when preaching prophetically.
Melon is quick to declare that his book is not an "end-times" prophecy book about how current events are fulfillment of any eschatological scenario. This book is opposed to such "pop-theology."
Both liberal and conservative churches are taken to task. Liberal churches for surrendering to post-modern morality. Conservative churches for their extreme nationalism and marriage to George W. Bush.
Pastor's who are uncomfortable with the much of the evangelical communities' promotion of "just war" theory as a primary response to 9/11 will find this book helpful. Pastors who have promoted "just war" and Christian patriotism, along with "God and Country" celebrations in their churches in support of the war effort will be challenged biblically to reconsider their positions.
As Melon warns, if the church is found declaring the wrong message in light of 9/11, what greater catastrophes lie on the horizon?
The judgment of God, the Minor prophets, and 9/11Review Date: 2004-08-10
If the book were to stop there, it would be well worth the price for any pastor who desires to faithfully preach these neglected books. Melon, however, takes his guidelines and contrasts both the conservative (Charles Colson, Southern Baptists, Jerry Falwell, etc.) and liberal churches response to 9/11. He faults the liberal church for surrendering to contemporary culture. He faults the conservative church for surrendering to nationalism and patriotism. Anyone reading this book will not remain unscathed.

Reading the Signs of the Times: Apocalypse no longer " Greek to me" Review Date: 2006-09-30
Coincidentally, I read this book just after reading "Hope of the Wicked" by Ted Flynn: Stephen Paul's book delineates the spiritual dynamic, --and Flynn's the socio-politic arena where history is forged by current events. Reading both these books in conjunction makes for an eerie but coherent picture of what will soon be upon us. Fear not, --but hold on to your hats; it's gonna get worse before it gets better . . . .
The Lay Voice Reclaiming the ApocalypseReview Date: 2006-09-18
On occasion he makes a declaration or takes a decision one may wish he did not. But no one should be looking for infallibility in this work. What one will find is the inspiration of the Holy Spirit touching the author with a reading of the Revelation to St. John that is a great help to all us during the times in which we live.
I no longer esteem the works of Biblical literary critics or those who must grind out verbiage in order to keep their niche in academia. This account is far more trustworthy because it is honest about what it is and because it is far more concerned about being faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ and his Church than serving some earthly-minded agenda.

Book #1:Betnoni's Prophecy
(Quiet Storm edition)
Well, this an Fantasy/Sci-fi book, however the technology parts
are very easy to follow so don't worry,
actually For me it's a more Fantasy/Politic book.
The story move at a very good pace ..in the Prologue
we meet Betnoni's & Daka Redd..and there we learned about
those decisions & actions both of them take that lead to this Curse/Prophecy for generations..!
this it's a wonderful world of Politics,Magic,Religion,Cruelty,
Romance and of course action..and thats just to name an few..!
the author "Elizabeth Merz" created an Huge new world full of wonderful characters, nations, cultures, races. and I mean an huge world building, indeed..!
I'm Highly Recommended "Betnoni's Prophecy"...and Book #2 Cobo's Quest as well...!
tremendous political fantasy thrillerReview Date: 2003-10-27
One millennium later, Cobo of the Betnonis believes that he is the only living Ver dala Ven until he learns that he has a teenage son Taen from his passionate love making with Daka leader Jishni before his exile eighteen years ago. Cobo does not know for certainty whether his abusive son raised by his beloved and his uncle has the power. However, Cobo will learn the lad does not have the personality for Taen plans to use his biological sire to take control while Cobo wants to fulfill the prophecy by opening the last gate to the missing Masing Star..
The first book of the Last Gate septology is a tremendous political fantasy thriller that contains a richly developed cast (past and present) that make believers out of the audience. Especially intriguing is the antagonists locked in a pivotal battle that seems Freudian. World builder extraordinaire Elizabeth Merz provides a strong opening tale that besides the upcoming sequels, begs for Daka Redd's tale to be written in depth in its own novel.

Elizabeth A. Merz has mastered her craft.Review Date: 2003-08-15
"The Last Gate is set on a world very much like our own Earth. Humans dominate the world, but theirs is a world of science, technology and magic. It is actually two stories existing side by side, and interwoven with each other. On one side are the dakas of Jantideva, a family of monarchs that virtually rule the world through the Alliance of Nations. On the other side is an almost extinct race of people called Ver dala Ven. Cobo is one of the last members of the golden-eyed people who are given the right to serve the Guardian and the Masing Star.
A thousand years before the story begins, one of the dakas, Daka Redd, tried to force the people of Shodalum, to work in the deadly lume factories with no thought to what the chemicals did to their health. The Guardian became angry, and took (allowed to die or killed) all the Ver dala Ven, who served the dakas as healers and advisors, except one in every generation. The Masing Star, whose constant song could be heard by all and brought peace to the souls of all the races, fell silent. But Betnoni, the Ver dala Ven who had stopped Daka Redd's attack on the striking Shodites, left a prophecy which no one understood until it started coming true..."
Though her curse became so accepted that it took on her name, with the passage of time the holders of her secret hardly took note of the prophecy."
The Shodites operated the lume plants that supplied the lume the Dakas had become dependent upon to fuel their windriders. From Chapter 1:
"Lume produced a waste product that caused instantaneous death when used on a living being; a clean and bloodless death that melted the internal organs of the victim seconds after absorption. In a society that had not known war for five thousand years, the production of weapons was the ultimate waste of lives and currency. Redd, however, was ambitious."
Ver dala Ven Corbo tries to put an end to the slavery of the Shodites and reconcile them with the Dakas in order to bring back the song of the Masing Star and to bring all the people of The Last Gate under the protection of the Guardian again.
In Betnoni's Prophecy Elizabeth A. Merz has created a world of love, families, mercy, religion, exploitation, war, cruelty-all the aspects of life in our world, but intensified by mutation and mutilation worse than any this world has seen to date-intensified by the ability of some of the characters to read the minds of others. Ms. Mrz has done an incredible job of portraying the stories of all the classes of citizens of The Last Gate so that the reader identifies and champions characters who are inevitably going to harm each other-they have no choice. This ability to elicit sympathy for the heroes and heroines of opposing camps is the mark of a master story teller and Betnoni's Prophecy proves Elizabeth A. Merz has mastered her craft.
Betnoni's Prophecy didn't end with all or even most of the loose ends tied up. In fact it didn't end-even after 308 pages. This reader only hopes the next book in the series starts where this book stopped, because there are characters left in peril, with no resolution.

"ONE & ONLY" Amil/Pret book that doesn't bailout & jump shipReview Date: 2005-02-14
BUT if you are a true student of the Bible and love expository teaching, then get ready to have your socks blessed off.
Jim takes a "preterist" view of Revelation and powerfully supports that view. He insists that the reader be consistent with the 12+ scriptures in Revelation that limit the time period for fulfillment of the book to a time that was "soon to take place". NOT "SOON" from 2005, but "SOON" from 79 AD. He also makes the "symbolic" nature of Revelation crystal clear.
And what makes his book the "top of the heap" of preterist commentaries on Revelation is his exposition of chapter 21. Jim is the "ONE & ONLY" perterist commentator who doesn't "bailout" or "jump ship" when it comes to chapter 21.
So to say that there isn't another commentary on Revelation like Jim's isn't an exaggeration. God bless. Mike
