I think that the author's ideas are good, but lacking
substantially in thinking eschatology has been solved:
For instance, The two witnesses, I have a hard time
accepting that they are not Jewish members of the church or
preaching the gospel of Christ. If they are, it would follow
there are 2 clear examples of 2 church members being present
in the tribulation period.

Like Israeology, Fruchtenbaum has added a stimulating and well outlined work. This book starts from the basic outline of eschatological events found in Revelation. Interestingly enough, Fruchtenbaum writes, "The majority of the things found in the first twenty chapters of Revelation are found elsewhere in the Old Testament... The value of the book of Revelation is not that it provides new information, but rather that it takes the scattered Old Testament prophecies and puts them in chronological order so that the sequence of events can be determined" (p. 9). Fruchtenbaum then hangs the detailed eschatological truths of the Old Testament on this inspired outline. Very interesting and effective approach.

As with Israelology, I must take one star off my rating for both the failure to put a topical index in the back of the book and for the extrabiblical assumptions he makes. Fruchtenbaum takes the controversial approach to the seven churches as being seven different time periods of churches. This requires too much bending of the rigid truth. His view that the Antichrist will be virgin born is both unsubstanciated and rediculous. Arnold... where did you come up with that?

The author sees much fulfillment of prophecy in the past 100 years of Israel's history. Not necissarily good or bad -- just risky for the undiscerning reader.

Fruchtenbaum cautions those who believe that unrepentant unbelievers spend eternity in hell and repentant sinners spend eternity in Heaven. "Neither point it biblically true" (p. 362). He then explains that the former spend eternity in the Lake of Fire and the latter in the New Earth. Interesting but doesn't prove the heaven/hell tradition is incorrect. He also holds to the view that Hades is divided into two -- a highly suspect doctrine which has been shot down a number of times including Brotzman (cf. BibSac Oct. 1988).

As a complete whole, this is a very interesting and recommendable book. On a humerous note, notice Ryrie's forward which concists of three paragraphs which are hardly a ringing endorsement for the book :) (Was Ryrie a former professor 'forced' to write this forward for a former student out of kindness?)

Get the book - its worth the money!

I have read and tried to understand Revelation and eschatological works since I was a teenager - this book absolutely "unlocked" eschatology for me! It is not "milk", however, and should not be approached as such. First I borrowed a copy, but soon decided I had to have a copy of my own so I could mark it up with a highlighter and make notes in the margin. The book is so deep spiritually, one reading is not adequate. In fact, I try to reread it once a year. Any true student of eschatology should not consider himself well read without this work in his library. Even though I don't really read Christian fiction, I read the Left Behind series in the light of Footsteps of the Messiah and enjoyed them even more because I didn't have to question their eschatological validity. I found them to be in line with Fruchtenbaum's writings. This book is a must read!

Written by a Jewish Rabbi who came to realize that Yeshua (Jesus) was indeed the Promised Messiah of Israel. So much is taught here. Hebrew is the author's first language and enables him to open the Scriptures and shine the light of truth. My husband and I have read it together numerous times. I could not recommend more highly.

We recently discovered another book of similar value: "Our Father ABRAHAM," written by Marvin R. Wilson, who is a leading scholar on Christian-Jewish relations.

Monumental study in Biblical prophecy.
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2003-08-18
This is a monumental study in the field of Biblical prophecy. As the title declares the book is essentially a study of the "sequence of prophetic events". Research which has taken six years to complete.

The author bases his interpretation of such events in the context of a "pre-Tribulation Rapture" and proceeds to describe the events leading up to and through the "Tribulation". Those conversant with Bible prophecy will understand the Tribulation to be a latter day period of seven years preceding the physical return of Jesus Christ. A period of turmoil, conflict and suffering which this book describes as actually beginning with the "signing" of a seven year "peace treaty" with Israel.

The book making reference to the "seventieth week" outlined in the book of Daniel chapter 9 which is still to take place and which precedes the second coming of Jesus Christ. Again those familiar with this area of prophecy will recognize the relevance and significance of the underlying precision in God's Word here. Even the very time of Jesus Christ's first coming being prophesied to the very day.

Amongst the many subjects dealt with are the appearance and identity of the Anti-christ, the "Abomination of Desolation", the "Mark of the Beast", the "Battle of Armageddon" and the Millennium. Latter day conflict in and around Israel is also examined, together with the make-up of the latter day nations & their roles in end times events.

Not least is a disturbing analysis of a latter day persecution of the Jewish people which the author describes as even bigger than the Holocaust. A satanically inspired and organised campaign to wipe out the Jews once and for all. A process which has been pursued from time immemorial to remove the source and channel through which God Himself has chosen to reveal His purpose and Person of redemption/salvation. (Something which I think is fundamental to any understanding of anti-Semitism.) The ultimate Salvation of the House of Israel is also covered in considerable detail. Despite all the turmoil and conflict researched here, the Sovereignty of God always shines through.

To be perfectly honest, I am unable to find a single aspect of prophecy relating to the latter days that is not covered. Pre-Tribulation events and those occurring within the Tribulation/Great Tribulation period itself are shown in what the author believes is their chronological order and each is thoroughly scrutinised. Indeed, the contribution this book makes to the study of eschatology cannot be overstated. The author treats the subject with the respect that it deserves, avoiding the sensationalism of a few who have perhaps brought the subject into disrepute in some areas.

The approach taken in this study towards prophetic interpretation is that where the "plain sense" of Scripture makes common sense to the reader, no other interpretation is to be sought. Therefore every word is taken at it's primary, ordinary, usual, literal meaning, unless the facts of the immediate context studied in the light of related passages & fundamental truths, clearly indicate otherwise. In other words, all Biblical passages are interpreted exactly as read, unless there is something in the text that indicates that such should be taken some other way other than literally.

This is a sometimes complex book, which I feel is better suited to those with a basic knowledge of the subject. However, much of the content is very detailed so novices prepared to take on this subject/book would do well to engage in a study based on this work, with their Bibles open at the same time.

The Scriptural references are too many to mention. They are used at virtually every opportunity. An index is also provided at the back of the book which even relates New Testament Scriptures to their Old Testament references, especially pertaining to the book of Revelation. Numerous charts are also used to clarify/collate certain aspects of this study.

Whether or not the individual reader agrees with certain aspects of the author's interpretations, I am sure that readers will return to this work time and time again as a reference & will be both instructed and stimulated. There are some areas where I am not sure if I totally agree with the author's interpretations, but these are matters which I need to prayerfully approach and not allow to become issues of contention.

At the time of writing I understand that the author is presently releasing a new, updated version of this work. So perhaps those interested in this study may prefer to obtain the newer version. Either way, such an acquisition will not fail to provide the reader with many a hour of absorbing study. Recommended.

With all the publicity about fantasy books lately, Ledgend's Prophecy is right in style. What I discovered about this book is that it not only features wizards, magic belts, spells, sorcery and traditional fantasy elements: it dishes up some big scoops of "niceness." Take for example some of the characters names: Faith, Hope, and Charity. It is almost as if the author is blending in biblical themes with the expected offerings of the fantasy genre. And the story has its share of evil bad characters, which helps to give a good contrast between the "niceness" of the good characters and the "badness" of the creepy characters: makes for just the right amount of conflict and resolution to stimulate and satisfy the reader. It is also easy to read and understand. Good story, author Tyrone Godfrey!

When it comes to fantasy, Mr. Godfrey in my opinion is one of the best. His lastest novel "Ledgend's Prophecy" is miles ahead
of the competition. The story moves swiftly and gracefully through each captivating chapter. His characters are firmly
believable with the storyline, and the action, well, you've got
to read it to experience the "rush" for yourself. The clamatic
clash between the evil sorcerer and the all-powerful wizard will
leave you breatheless! I highly recommend this book.

Ledgend's Prophecy I & II" is a series of "ERUPTING VOLCANO'S" destined to dissolve into a blockbuster mini-series. Tyrone's creativity and depiction of each animated character literally takes you on a roller coaster ride of intense foreplay. The beginning, middle and end will thrust you into a whole new world of fairytales and ultimately have you begging for more.

Will I recommend it? ABSOLUTELY!!!!

Read it just for the Garak story! The rest awesome too!

Review Date: 2004-01-21
I bought this novel for two reasons.
1) To read the much-anticipated follow up to Garak's life in "A Stitch in Time", and
2) To see how O'Brien and Bashir made up after their fight in "Hippocratic Oath".
I was NOT disappointed. In fact, describing my reactions via a negative does not do justice. IT WAS EUROPHIC!
To be honest I have yet to read the other stories which take place during, not after, the DS9 series. [The stories are almost entirely fill-in-the-blank stories, covering things that were not covered in the show but nonetheless happened to the characters, be they fictional or not.] But if the first two stories I read are any indication this collection of stories is amazing. If the rest suck, it was well worth buying PLAIN and SIMPLY for the Garak story!!

I have now also read the Jake-Ziyal story. It is very excellent. The similarities between the two makes one wonder why they never actually DID develop a relationship on the show, since quite obviously they should have! 5 out of 5.

A wonderful collection of DS9 short stories

Review Date: 2004-06-08
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. To mark the event, Pocket Books produced a short story collection called Prophecy & Change. Using the conceit from the episode "The Visitor," the framing story has an older Jake Sisko visited on a rainy night by a young woman, an aspiring writer. He spends the night regaling her with tales of his time on the station, which these happen to be. Despite the fact that a couple of the stories don't really fit this mold (the Garak story being the most unlikely for Jake to know), it's a nice idea that really works well. I can say that there are no bad stories in this volume, and some very good ones make this an excellent collection.

The stories take place along the timeline of the TV series, beginning with a story that takes place days after the series premiere, "The Emissary," and ending with a story set during the post-series novels. Each season is represented except the second, with most of the stories weighted toward the end of the series. While the stories seem to be leaning toward Quark and Odo, each character gets his/her time in the spotlight, which is a nice touch. Sisko and Kira are the most shortchanged, with only the first story, "Ha'Mara" (by Kevin G. Summers) concentrating on them. "Ha'Mara is an effective tale that ties together "The Emissary" and "Past Prologue" and explaining how the relationship between Sisko and Kira mellowed a little bit between the two. Kai Opaka proclaims that Sisko is the emissary from the Prophets. Kira has a lot of trouble believing that some outsider, especially somebody from the Federation could be their savior. They get a lot of time to argue, however, when they and two Bajoran children are trapped in an underground labyrinth by a cave-in. It's a very effective character story for the two of them, and the story is only marred by the heavy-handed characterization of Colonel Day, a Bajoran militia member who would also love to throw the Federation off Bajor and who hopes to use the cave-in as a way to discredit Opaka.

A few of the stories explain little continuity bits from the series that never were really explained. Thankfully, these stories move beyond that and are good stories in themselves, or else the book would have serious problems. "The Orb of Opportunity" (by Michael A. Martin and Andy Mangels) tells us why Nog decided to strike out on his own and eventually join Starfleet. In this story, an orb is being returned to the Bajorans by the Cardassians, but it gets hijacked by a band of Maquis (Federation citizens who are fighting the Cardassians because a treaty put their homeworlds in Cardassian territory). The orb is in a Ferengi lockbox, and only somebody with the ears of a Ferengi can open it. Rom refuses to go along after being browbeaten by his brother Quark, so Kai Winn secretly enlists Nog's help. After having an orb vision of the future, Nog even decides to forego payment in advance to help! He sees an opportunity that he feels he has to take. The story is very touching, with everybody being characterized wonderfully. Winn is the perfect balance between wily manipulator and a Bajoran religious leader who just wants what's best for her people. She's almost sympathetic, but then she does something that just makes you want to shoot her.

The book has a nice mixture of old and new writers, which is another plus. The pride and joy of the book, however, is another tale by Andrew J. Robinson, the man who played Garak on the series. The last story in the collection, it details the story of Garak and how he is helping Cardassia heal from the horrors of Dominion occupation, where millions died. Some time has passed, and the Cardassians have been through civil war and massive plague which has wiped out even more of his people. This takes place after A Stitch in Time and a stage play written by Robinson and performed at conventions when Robinson and Alexander Siddig are both there. Robinson writes Garak so well, and the story is only marred by the fact that I felt lost at times when he was referring to the events of the play. He tries to put explanations in there, but it just seemed too much. I think it was a mistake to have it be a direct sequel to something that hardly anybody (relatively speaking) is going to see. Still, Robinson shows that he is a gifted writer as well as actor, making the conflicts interesting even when the reader doesn't quite understand what's going on.

As I said earlier, there really isn't a bad story in the bunch. The weakest story is probably the Ezri Dax story, "Chiaroscuro" (by Geoffrey Thorne), which has Ezri going to Pandora station to open a puzzle that Jadzia Dax set so that only another Dax would be able to do it. The story takes place shortly after Ezri boards Deep Space Nine so she's still unsure of herself. I found that the writing didn't grab me and the puzzles that Ezri had to solve just weren't that interesting. Ezri sees a side of Jadzia Dax that she's never seen, but neither have we so we don't really identify with it. It's a young Jadzia, inexperienced and emotional, and ultimately the story just falls flat.

Overall, this is a wonderful collection. It's so great that I spent a Sunday morning plowing through it (which I never do) because I couldn't put it down. That's the seal of approval as far as I'm concerned. If you're a Deep Space Nine fan, you owe it to yourself to pick this up right away. And I'm anxiously awaiting Tales from the Dominion War as well.

Reading this book felt like watching the television show (that's a good thing). Each story was probably about the same length as a TV episode, and had similar formats. Overall it was entertaining. A few of the stories I could have done without, but it was still readable. I would highly recommend this to someone who is feeling nostalgic and misses those old days.

Restore your faith in STAR TREK

Review Date: 2005-07-12
DEEP SPACE NINE was always the most literate corner of the STAR TREK universe. It's no surprise, then, that this tightly-edited anthology uses a clever framing story which allows us to imagine that all the stories are being told by a post-middle-aged Jake Sisko, Deep Space Nine's own resident author, reflecting on his time aboard Deep Space Nine. While this means that PROPHECY AND CHANGE isn't technically a part of the so-called "Season 8" relaunch of the series in book form, it does make it a valuable prologue to these newer adventures.

Within just a few pages, you'll quickly see that this is a different kind of STAR TREK than most people knew existed. This is a rich, messy universe, far, far beyond the scope of the other STAR TREK series. In these post-ENTERPRISE days when STAR TREK seems to be a disgraced genre, the one constant source of good new material is the DEEP SPACE NINE line. This first stop along the way back to STAR TREK will both give you new material while reminding you of the high points of each of the seven televised seasons.

Perhaps the best story of the lot is Kevin Summers' "Ha'mara", which takes us all the way back to Sisko's first journey to the Bajor that would become his home over the course of the television series. Notable for giving us our first real look at a lot of introductions that the television pilot left out, it weaves together broad political themes with the very personal struggles of Ben and Jake Sisko. DEEP SPACE NINE was always remarkable for its deft handling of the big and small pictures, but maybe there's never been quite as poignant a moment in any part of the DEEP SPACE NINE legacy--televised or literary--as Summers gives us here. Without giving too much away, I'll just say that in the midst of exploring exactly why the Bajorans were so distrustful of the new Federation presence, Summers takes the time to give us a portrait of the exact moment Jake Sisko became a writer. So simply moving was this scene that I can still remember it now, some two years after having read it.

If there had been nothing else in this book but that one moment, I would have felt my purchase price fully justified. Happily, there's so very much more in this rich collection, which leaves no major character without a truly signature moment.

The tour de force of Star Trek Deep Space Nine

As I stated in my subject line, this book is the tour de force of Star Trek Deep Space Nine, revisiting the most complicated Star Trek series ever made and tying up loose ends.

The anthology consists of 10 short stories which go a little deeper into the story of Deep Space Nine, from 'Emissary' to 'What You Leave Behind', this book fills in all the blanks, all the loose ends (few that there were) from all 7 years of Deep Space Nine.

The authors are the 'newer' breed of Trek authors, mainly those that have come through the Strange New Worlds competition and written some of the DS9 relaunch books. If the stories from 'Prophecy and Change' and merely the 'early works' of these authors, then I shudder to think just how brilliant their writing will be when these men and women hit their prime.

The stories themselves are mastefully told, and are presented as stories being told by Jake to the young woman that came to see him in 'The Visitor', when Jake is an old man.

Each story is great, but the standouts are definitely 'Three Sides to Every Story', 'Foundlings', and 'Chiaroscuro'. Each of these stories are just brilliant, and cover the last 2 seasons of DS9, which was where the series really hit it's peak.

My only problem with this book was the last story, the Garak story by Andrew J. Robinson. I throughly enjoyed his previous work about Garak, entitled 'A Stitch in Time', but I did not enjoy his contribution to this book, entitled 'The Calling'. I found the story disjointed and at some points just plain confusing. Robinson made some reference to a play entitled 'The Dream Box' which I have never heard of. I'm guessing that this play is the step between 'A Stitch in Time' and 'The Calling', but I have never seen this play, so 'The Calling' was utterly confusing to me.

My only other negative point about this book was concerning a specific plot point. Please be warned, this paragraph contains spoilers. If you wish to avoid them, skip this paragraph. In 'Three Sides to Every Story', Ziyal gives Jake a precious Bajoran earring belonging to her mother, asking Jake to keep is safe for a while. After Ziyal's death, Jake goes to Ziyal's body and considers giving the earring back, but then decides that he should keep it, thus fufilling his promise to Ziyal. This was a wonderful piece of writing, but I think that the author could have gone a step further. The last part of the book is the conclusion of the meeting between Jake and the young woman that comes to see him. I believe that Ziyal's earring should have been mentioned there as still being kept safe by Jake. This would work in two ways, firstly, it would add weight the Jake-Ziyal story by making direct reference to it in the 'objective' sections at either end of the book. Secondly, it would help to reinforce the fact that Jake had an active role in these events. It's a fairly trivial point to be sure, but it was something that I felt should have been included in the story. But that is really a matter of opinion.

Overall, if you are a fan of DS9, either casual or serious, then you should buy this book. It's absolutely fantastic.

I think this is a fabulous item. I am a born again Christian, I was Pagan for a few years until I found the Lord again and got saved but it always had been told to me that Tarot is bad and I should'nt get it read. When I was a Pagan I always read my cards with amazing accuracy, but more for direction, so I can look at my past was and the path Im heading on, to better prepare for and stay focused on the future. I think these cards are great becuase they use biblical teachings to give us guidance on our lives. The bible takes on a whole new understanding and meaning to me and I love looking at the bible versus and compairing them to my life and findng "hidden meanings" in the messages. Sometimes I wonder if this is truly Tarot hidden in biblical cards, but I guess the only way to make this bad is if I was reading these to forcast my future instead of to gain better understanding as to what is going om in my life. I love the questions and suggestions she has at the end of every lot or sign. The only reason why I did not give this 5 stars was becuase she wrote in the introduction "I encourage you to treat the life of Jesus as myth, which is not to say that His life didn't happen as recorded. But, rather than viewing it as history, something that occured almost two thousand years ago, see it as a metaphor for you own life today." Casting LOTS, pg.1 I understand her point behind this and wanting us to see these as metaphors, but I dont think treating Jesus' life as a myth helps or harms that. I look at these as metaphors for my life but knowing that this isnt a myth and I think it draws me closer to the Holy Spirit when you read this knowing, Jesus went through this two thousand years ago and how what He went through and what He did can help us now. That one sentence could have been left out, otherwise this was a great book and great cards :)

Hello, I loved the book and the cards. They bridge the gap between organized religion and metaphysics. They add depth and meaning when used in conjunction with the tarot. The book addressed my heart, as I feel much the same way as the author. This system is wonderful!!!

I have a practice in energy medicine here in Mississippi and as part of my work, I send out a monthly newsletter that goes out to clients and interested others around the U.S. and several foreign countries. Two months ago, a friend suggested that I check out "Casting Lots - An Oracle of the Holy Spirit," the meditation cards created by Ann Dorian of Massachusetts.
Ann did a reading for me, which was right on the mark. Since I do divination, also, it merely reaffirmed what I had seen, and in a different way that allowed me greater perspective. As part of my work, I deal with people from all walks of life. They include Buddhists, pagans, Christians, Jews, all colors, black, white, Native American. A problem of sorts I've noticed has been a lack of Christian-based meditative guides that are inclusive, not exclusive, and provide insights without tending to trample on beliefs. Ann has walked this difficult line with these cards - offering insights in a way that are comfortable to Christians, without being threatening or dogmatic to others.
As a result of the good experience I received from her reading, and using the cards (which are now becoming quite popular among my circle of friends), Ann offered to do readings for subscribers to my newsletter. The response has been overwhelming. This week, she wrote:
"Thank you so much for extending the time to do readings... I heard from people in Holland, Canada, Japan, Hawaii, CA, Texas, MS, CO, Ohio, PA, FL, NJ, MA, TN, and many other places that I don't remember or they didn't say. I was also invited to give readings at a metaphysical bookstore in FL when I am down there next week. Thank you for making this possible."
Some excerpts from feedback:
-- "I am absolutely stunned by the `right on' feeling I had reading your message. The explanations that you have taken the time to send are wonderful." -- P.K.in FL
-- "That was a terrific reading. I really felt it pull in areas I've already been lead towards." -- Cliff
-- "I am overwhelmed at the depth -- you got to the crux of what I have been denying." -- Janet in Canada
-- "I can't tell you how wonderful your reading was. I expected accuracy from your reading since I had an inner nudge to contact you, but I was simply unprepared for how chillingly accurate you were. This is easily one of the best readings I have had and that is saying a lot. I've been around the block as they say. Thank you so very much! I would like to purchase your divination system. The way you write and the intuitive understanding you bring is amazing. I've never been a huge Bible advocate but the Truth you tell from the Bible is far deeper than the text I've experienced before." -- L. 816 area code
-- "This seems accurate to me and on track to what I've been mulling. I was raised Catholic and long ago made peace with the negative aspects of the upbringing. What I've retained is the symbolism and ritual which is nurturing. These cards speak to that aspect of my nature." -- CM 858
-- "Please let me tell you that this reading has finally allowed me to break through some really yucky blocks as far as men go! This oracle is important to unity and healing on the planet because it builds a bridge between forms of spirituality. It heals the Christ-wound many holistic people may have experienced through its high vibration and loving explanations." -- Stephanie
-- "I am overwhelmed by the amount of information and the sophistication of your text. You have provided all the ingredients to give me precisely what I need." -- DH
-- "I was absolutely astonished at how accurate the reading you gave me was! Something I had written thirty minutes before in my journal showed up verbatim in what you wrote, as well as the exact Bible verse I had quoted to myself that same morning in the shower." -- T in Tenn.
-- "I found the messages that were pertinent to me in all of the cards that were very illuminating." -- PG 619 area code
-- "I feel so different this week. Through the readings I received confirmation of thoughts long held inside of me, seeking some sort of way to make them happen. That has been my position for quite some time now -- waiting for those things to happen. But all of a sudden, I am feeling the inner conviction and the energy to make them happen myself. It's as if the way has been cleared . . . . The reading has been very revealing and affirming for me and for that, I thank you."
Naturally, Ann cannot do everyone's readings with these cards. But I can attest to the fact that they work, and they work well, and I would recommend them to anyone with a Christian background who is interested in exploring further the realms of insight and meditation such guides offer.
Many Blessings,
Jim Ewing

I can't say enough good things about this book and card set. It most certainly will change lives. The guidance is always profound, you may find the truth hard to swallow at times but God doesn't pull any punches. I highly recommend this to anyone seeking, asking and not sure. Allow yourself enough time to ponder and meditate on readings and you will find your answer is surely there. I wish I could give it 10 stars

This book analyses the Old Testament prophecies about the coming Messiah using math. It deduces that Jesus is the Messiah.

One interesting thing is that it uses the then current end times theory that the Rapture would be in the second half of the seven years of end times. The pre- and mid- and post- rapture theories are recent inventions.

I read this book many years ago and found it nothing less than thrilling. It is the work of a top investigator who searched for the facts before coming to a solid conclusion based on the evidence. Having often read the nonsense that is sometimes spouted out by atheists regarding the Bible, it is good to know that there is abundant evidence to support the divine inspiration of scripture. Surely this is a book which any serious Bible student should read. Strongly recommended.

Imagine having a law-trained scholar from the 1890s who headed Scotland Yard during the era of Jack the Ripper and who was knighted by Queen Victoria unlock for you key-turn by key-turn, the secrets of the mysteries of the end-times prophecies in the Old Testament Book of Daniel. Imagine having his analysis calculate for you to the date, year and day of the month the historic events of when Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, was arrested and crucified. Then know that these calculations are supported by historically documented events based upon the Jewish calendar, as supported by ancient astrological observations and calculations. Imagine all of this taking place and being written down in a book published years before the first shot was fired in World War I. Imagine then again that all of these events were written in the days shortly after Bismarck and not long after Napoleon ravaged Europe. Finally, imagine that this entire effort is intended as a backdrop for the coming "end of days" as told in Daniel and the New Testament Book of Revelation with a startling basis in historical fact. Stop imagining. You can purchase this long-forgotten book fifty years after its Tenth Printing edition.

Still a great book these 100 years later!

Sir Robert Anderson (1841-1918) was a trained solicitor and intelligence officer who became Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police and Chief of the Criminal Investigation Department (Scotland Yard) during the Ripper Scare. He was widely credited with bringing London's notorious crime under control. However, Sir Robert was also a committed Christian.

This fascinating book is the fruit Sir Robert's examination of Daniel's prophecies of the end of the world, focusing in on the future Prince who will attempt to destroy Israel. In it, the author shows the thoroughness and eye for detail that was the reason for his advance to the very pinnacle of British criminal investigation. Overall, I found it to be a fascinating read. You would expect that such an old work would be dry and academic, but the author did such an excellent job that it is still a great book these 100 years later!

So, if you want to read a fascinating book, one that should rightly be considered a Christian classic, then get this book. I highly recommend it!

Excellent summary on "Bible Codes" - Willing to look at the evidence?

Probably one of the best reviews on "Bible Codes" crossing several technological and theological arenas (Equidistant Letter Sequences -ELS, microcodes, macrocodes, codes embedded in life - DNA). Excellent introduction to the technical problems and solutions to encoding information and how the problems are solved.

How would the Ultimate Mathematician communicate with His creation? Would HE send a message that a man could create? Would HE send a message that had proof embedded to verify HE sent the message (digital signature)? If there is such a set of messages, what is the information in this set of messages?

Evidence is abundant and well sourced in the book. The conclusion is left to the reader but this book will increase the faith of the the Bible believing population and draw the sceptic to reevaluate the evidence.

Would also recommend Dr. Missler's web site khouse.org and the technical section for those looking for scientific articles on various topics.

This is an excellent book.

Mr. Missler not only thoroughly researches and backs up all of his statements but also presents the material in an easy to read format for those of us that, unlike Mr. Missler, are not geniuses. I have had to look up a few words in the dictionary and also have referred to bible versus (which, by the way, is always what Mr. Missler wants and encourages all readers to do - read your bible, see for yourself!) but that is a good thing..... it's called learning.

This is an encouraging and uplifting book, in my opinion, that will stay in my permanent group of reference books - the bible, of course, being #1.

I do not read or speak Hebrew but I have followed both Mr. Missler (and his very good friend/mentor Hal Lindsey) in their ministries for many years. I find it difficult to believe that there are "mistakes" in the understanding and translation of the Hebrew anywhere in this book..... as another reviewer here as stated.

You know, instead of posting a public comment like that, you can always contact Mr. Missler and ask him about the "mistakes" you perceive - maybe you would learn something useful.

There are several ways to contact Mr. Missler printed right inside the book. Try it, what do you have to lose? If you are correct, Mr. Missler would be the first one to go public and make sure everyone he could reach was informed. He is an honest, good hearted man..... his only desire is to help and never to mislead. Plus, I would venture a guess that he would also welcome a lively debate with someone (who seems) pretty darn smart.

I believe in being accountable for my Christian faith. Chuck Missler is an excellent resource for this purpose.

Take care,
JA

Too bad about the mistakes in Hebrew!

This is such an interesting book, but perhaps Missler has copied the Hebrew errors of Bullinger, Jeffrey, and Rambsel, when discussing the Torah Codes. There are many absurdities. At the bottom of page 112, what in the world is "tegoleh"? In the center of page 155, in describing Jesus as a Nazarene, the Hebrew word would be "Notzri," spelled nun, tzadi, resh, yod. It is related to "Netzer," meaning branch. Instead, he has spelled "Nazir," which means a monk or abstainer: nun, zayin, yod, resh. The full-page chart on page 159 is full of mistakes. This kind of carelessness makes Christian "authorities" on Hebrew scriptures look foolish, and their subjective "codes" even more so. This is unfortunate, but the average reader needs to be informed.

Chuck Missler's careful detail within his books tend to make his writing difficult to keep up with. Cosmic Codes is an exception. His chapters are broken up into headings that allow the reader to take a breath or to chew like the intellectual cows we tend to become. Cosmic Codes is not for the faint of thought, you have to be ready to think; to think beyond time, space and our predefined view of reality. Cosmic Codes also puts the "Bible Code" in its proper place. They do exist, you cannot escape the math on the odds, but Missler puts the evidence in its proper perspective. There are some errors here and there. For example, Rambsel notes the absence of Judas from the Isaiah 53 ELS findings. I have since found it within the text. However, considering the topic and the vast amount of cross-referencing, it is brilliant, albiet imperfect; Like Chuck himself. When reading Cosmic Codes, as with all other works by Chuck Missler, start by reading Acts 17:11 in the Bible; it is his caveat.

Indispensable to study of the return of our Lord

Dr. Showers has presented the most solid defense of the pre-trib rapture. So often the discussion of the rapture is focused solely on the event itself, but Dr. Showers' work is key, in that he places the rapture within it's biblical context, by specifically addressing the Day of the Lord. Without the preliminary concerns which he addresses, the placement of the rapture is much more of a case of inference, but when laid out in the context of the broader prophetic scheme, the placement at once becomes obvious. I would recommend this book to any and all who are studying the rapture.

The Rapture Explained and Clarified

Review Date: 2007-07-25
Renald Showers is a very careful Bible expositor, and he does a great job with this study on the pretribulational rapture of the church. He has a very strong chapter on the imminency of Christ's return. He also makes it clear that the entire seven year tribulation period is a time where God's wrath is poured out on the earth, and that you cannot confine the time of wrath to the last portion of the period.

I was a bit confused by Showers' distinction between the broad day of the Lord which starts shortly after the rapture and lasts all the way through the 1000 year reign of Christ, and the short day of the Lord, which refers to the day of Christ's second coming. To me, the day of the Lord is time of divine judgment and wrath that lasts from the Rapture to the end of the tribulation period, but ceases at the start of the Millennium.

2 Thessalonians 2 is a tough passage for the pretribulational position, but I think that Showers did a good job expounding this text.

He also shows that the coming of Christ for His saints in John 14 and 1 Thessalonians 4 is different and distinct from the coming of Christ WITH His saints in Revelation 19.

He argues cogently for a two stage coming of Christ, the first stage being the rapture of the church into heaven, an event that can occur at any time, and the second stage being the coming of Christ at the end of the tribulation to set up His millennial kingdom.

This book is a bit stodgy and repetitive. Showers is not the most engaging writer in the world. But I feel that he has established a strong exegetical case for the pretribulational rapture of the church.

Biblical Imminency!

Review Date: 2008-05-30
Along side his other definitive work comparing dispensationalism and covenant theology "There Really Is A Difference", Dr. Showers has rendered us a great service with "Maranatha--Our Lord, Come!". His biblical and scholarly work will continue to set the standard in defending the premillennial, pre-tribulational rapture of the Church for a long time to come.

As stated in the Foreword, "With over one-third of the Bible devoted to the subject of prophecy, the essence of which is the Lord's return, we can ill afford to be uninformed or confused about a hope so basic to our lives...Indispensable to any comprehensive work on the Lord's coming is and examination of the question of Imminency--the "any moment" return of Christ."

Although "Maranatha" is a deeply rich and encompassing study of the Rapture of the Church, I only have time and space enough to mention the following quotes from Dr. Showers. These should be enough to show how important this matter is and what is at stake in our churches. It also serves as a reminder of the expectant living every believer needs each day to fulfill our Lord's Great Commission to every tribe, nation, tongue, and people.

In his chapter on Imminency, Dr. Showers states:
"The concept of the imminent coming of Christ is a significant inference for the Pretribulation Rapture of the church. To understand this concept, we must examine the meaning of the term "imminent."

The English word "imminent" comes from the Latin verb "immineo, imminere," which means to "overhang" or "project". In light of this, the English word "imminent" means "hanging over one's head, ready to befall or overtake one; close at hand in its incidence." Thus, an imminent event is one that is always hanging overhead, is constantly ready to befall or overtake a person, is always close at hand in the sense that it could happen at any moment. Other things may happen before the imminent event, but nothing else must take place before it happens. If something else must take place before an event can happen, that event is not imminent. The necessity of something else taking place first destroys the concept of Imminency."

Dr. Showers point here is very important. For example, this failing is seen clearly in the premillennial covenant (post-trib) position coming out of schools related to the EFCA that believes the Antichrist MUST be revealed first, and the Church MUST go through the Great Tribulation, BEFORE Christ can return. Since certain things MUST happen before the rapture can occur, this position does not allow for the, any moment, imminent return of Christ that is so often repeated in Scripture. Nowhere do we find that "imminent" equals "sometime soon"...and I have not been able to find anywhere in Scripture where the believer is to find his future hope an expectant living in looking for the Antichrist.

The Practical Effect of Imminency
Dr. Showers goes on to state, "The imminent coming of Christ should have an incredible practical effect on the lives of individual Christians and the church as a whole. The fact that the glorified, holy Son of God could step through the door of heaven at any moment is intended by God to be the most pressing, incessant motivation for holy living and aggressive ministry (including missions, evangelism, and Bible teaching) and the greatest cure for lethargy and apathy. It should make a difference in every Christian's values, actions, priorities, and goals...In addition, in 1 John 3:2-3 the apostle emphasized the impact that the truth of Christ's coming should have on Christians living now: "We know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is. And every man that hath this hope in Him purifieth himself, even as He is pure."

Finally, with the biblical doctrine of Imminency under siege in some denominations like the EFCA, Dr. Shower's excellent discussion in Chapter 7 is vitally important to us today. Along with that we are seeing inroads being made against the consistent use of a single normative hermeneutic by "new" systems with misleading labels such as "Progressive" and "Historic" forms of premillennialism. If you scratch below the surface you will see that both of these are little more than Covenant Theology dressed up in sheep's clothing. These views also have a weaken view on the inspiration of Scripture and use a "complementary" hermeneutic. Pastors, church leaders, and pastoral search committees can no longer afford to be complacent or uninformed and assume that being "premillennial" or even "dispensational" means normative dispensational.

The Bible in Revelation 22 closes by saying, "And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely...He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus."

Subtitle's right, this is a "definitive" rapture study. Far more than the typical Daniel, Revelation, Thessalonians, I Corinthians stuff here. Hundreds (thousands?) of verses are cited as Showers scrutinizes the entire Word of God for inferences supporting his view that the rapture will be before the 7-year tribulation. Detailed analysis of the various birth pangs references, the Day of the Lord (narrow and broad), use of the word tribulation, significance of the Revelation 5 scroll...and that's all preliminary to getting to Part II! I'm unaware of any scripture stones Shower's left unturned to present both the big picture and the details. By far the best of the many rapture books I've read, 'Maranatha' is for the serious student, but so well-organized that even one not so familiar with the Bible can benefit.

A Formidable Argument For The Pretribulational Rapture

"MARANATHA" is indeed a definitive study on the rapture. Like an exceptional corporate attorney, Renald Showers scrutinizes pointed details of scripture that address our Lord's coming for His bride. He addresses passages and details that others have overlooked, turning over every stone along the path. Not only does he present the views of the early church fathers, but he also focuses attention on pertinent rabbinical writings.

Regardless of your personal viewpoint, you must respect his attention to detail, his scholarship, and his forthright honesty in stating his position (from the beginning he makes it clear that he holds to a pretribulational rapture). Likewise, in presenting his case, he never makes a disparaging remark about those who do not agree with him. He simply focuses on the matter at hand.

This volume cannot be brushed aside. It is the strongest statement to champion the pretribulational viewpoint.

This book is above and beyond because it frees one to open their minds to encompass the scope of life beyond what we understand without adhering to any particular belief system. Sadly, Discernment has been a neglected and scorned spiritual gift in the Church in recent years, and as this Negative attitude towards Christians with discernment progressed, deception, bizarre manifestations and practices continued to take root, and false teachings and abusive practices have only increased.

Extra-biblical interpretations and Mysticism has hit the Christian Church to such a degree now, that people are looking for answers as they are questioning why what they are seeing and experiencing is not in the written word of God. Every believer is commanded from scripture to examine everything carefully, hold fast to that which is good; abstain from every form of evil." 1 Thess 5:21,22

The Author tells of his Family's personal testimony of his involvement with the 'River Movement' and how it came into his Church. Appreciated was the Author's documenting the history of the 'Latter Rain' movement which shortly after it's inception in 1948 was rejected by the AOG. But today this movement continues to spread wildly within the Church, especially with youths and young adults. As the Church slips further into apostasy, this book brings much needed information.

Had ordered this book Feb 2007, but for several months never received it due to publishers delay. Many months later, received a copy from a friend.

I found Mr. Reeves' book after I bought "Why I Left the Prophetic Movement" which was very disappointing! Mr. Reeves shares his struggles with questionable teaching in the charismatic community in a way I found refreshing! He points out how a lot of what is being taught isn't found in the Bible but is based on experience and opinion. Much of what is being taught, especially in groups that adhere to the so called "Toronto Blessing" is actually heresy and Mr. Reeves' backs up what he's teaching with sound Scriptural teaching that sticks to what the Bible actually teaches and not what someone else may want it to say when it actually doesn't.

I also found Kevin Reeves to be a man of godly humility and someone I can trust. He gives us freedom to doubt & question & helps us focus back on the truth of God's Word.
