Hays and Pate have brought Revelation back to reality. They have taken a practical theological approach tom interpreting Revelation in light of historical and present day events. When others are looking to attach Babylon to whatever present day threat or power that comes along, Hays and Pate helps us to read the book in the light in which it belongs: the first century Biblical worldview.

Having taken classes from these two professors, it's not surprising that they would write such a great book. Their humor and dislike for unbiblical prophecy writers (not theologians) like Lindsey and LaHaye are very rare and comforting. It is not very often that someone would take on a big author like LaHaye, but they point out the outlandish, ridiculous, and almost heretical views of LaHaye and Lindsey. Very good to read such an awesome book from professors I grew to love and respect over 4 years.

FINALLY! A true and honest look at what the bible says concerning the end times! The authors do a wonderful job of dismissing myths about the need for Babylon to be rebuilt. My favorite chapter was chapter 5 in which they gave valid proof to disbelieve that Russia will ever attack Israel. Excellent. I would recommend this to everyone.

I am extremely satisfied with my recent purchase of this Bible.

The references to different aspects of Scripture are easily accessed. My particular interest of Scriptures relating to Israel, it's people and it's land and Biblical prophecies relative to Israel are there at your fingertips.

My only criticism is in relation to the `political correctness' of Mr. Jeffery's own writings in enclosed articles supporting areas of Scripture where he uses the term `Palestine' out of it's correct geographical and historical context.

Palestine being the regional name given to Israel and adjacent areas after the suppression of the second Jewish revolt by the Roman Emperor, Hadrian, in AD135. The original name being `Syria Palaestina' which eventually became anglicised into `Palestine' and which was subsequently replaced by Israel upon it's rebirth in 1948.

Mr. Jeffery uses the term `Palestine' incorrectly in some old maps and also in one area relating to Old Testament prophets who were around long before the term `Palestine' ever existed.

If you can live with this, or amend it even, this will be an excellent Bible to possess. In all other ways it is to be highly recommended. The ability to easily access so many different aspects of the Bible is remarkable and such an aid to understanding.

Valuable addition to the prophecy literature.

One practicle reason I like this bible is that it contains in concise form the important topics of the end times. The notes are focused on prophecy so you are not reading a book with one hand and looking up the verses cited with the other. The bible contains numerous articles, maps, charts and illustrations. The articles are particularly helpful and include topics such as: The Battle of Gog and Magog (I finally understand wshere this battle falls in the end time events), The Antichrist, The Seventy Weeks, The Tribulation etc.

I have many bibles and this is one of the ones I use regularly.

First Time Edgar Cayce Reader

This book is extraordinary and superbly written. As a first time reader of the life of Edgar Cayce, I think I picked the right First Time book. It certainly helps me better understand the mystery behind the man, a simple man, I might add, not unlike any of the rest of us and who, I believe, was uncomfortable and uneasy with this very mysterious and inconceivable ability. For this reason, I advise other readers to be conservative about their purchases of books about Cayce. There are many people today no different at all than during Edgar's own lifetime: always seeking to profit from someone else's gifts rather than appreciating the man's torment and altruistic nature. He must have been a truly special individual to those who knew and loved him.

This is a wonderful autobiography pieced together from Cayce's own writing over the years. A. Robert Smith, who compiled and edited the material, has done an excellent job of assembling and organizing the diverse materials from the Cayce files.

It is a book that should be read by everyone, especially those who have heard of Edgar Cayce but are unfamiliar with the man and his work. He gave thousands of psychic readings for others--but did not operate a psychic "hotline" and never charged anyone for a reading. His is a story of faith in action.

Beautiful!

I have been reading about Edgar Cayce for years, but this is the only book that has allowed me a very personal view of the Sleeping Prophet. It allows deeper insights into the man himself, from his own point of view. The book documents the troubles he overcame to become one of the world's most loved prophets.

The second part is a guided meditation that is oriented toward positive thinking. Her techniques of combining music with visualization are very powerful. Since using this and other of Michele's audio programs, I have actually had measureable improvement in my financial situation. I highly recommend this audio cassette program.

The Middle Realm delivers its prophesy in the form of a novel but it ends with an inspiring exposition, step by step, of a God modern man can rationalize. It reconciles science with the Divine.

The opening chapters took me into a hellish picture of today's world, but the end was truly inspired and inspiring!

I'm a spiritual person searching for answers... I found plenty here... I highly recommend The Middle Realm.

I read this compelling book in 3 nights. The first series of dream quests were really creepy and scary. The author has some interesting, philosophical, and creative ideas about the nature of life and the world. About how we got here and WHERE WE ARE GOING and why the world is in such turmoil. It's a cross between religious philosophy and science fiction all in novel form, if you can imagine that. I guess we all have to go through hell to get to our own version of heaven. Very well written. I recommend it.

Do not let the fact that this book was written before 2000 in response to the millennium celebration make you think that it is outdated, because nothing could be further from the truth. I do not remember when I have read a book as fast as I read this one, because Wright's style of writing is lucid and dynamic. I recommend this book for everyone able to read and if not it is worth getting someone to read it to you.
Wright opens the book with a discussion about the calendar and how it came into being and this within in itself was interesting, but he points out that there would be no Millenium celebration if it were not for Jesus. He does not say this because Jesus was necessary to sustain the world (though that may could be argued), but because the calendar reflects time in relation to Jesus and his birth. He does point out that Dionysius was 4 years off, but nevertheless, dating is based on Jesus coming into the world. His conclusion is that Jesus is Lord and Caesar is not. Wright then uses the idea that Jesus is Lord and Caesar is not to deal with modernity and post modernity. His conclusions are excellent and by all means still relevant for the Church today. Get this book!

Wright goes in to show that Christianity claims a metanarrative that isn't a powerplay. True Christianity is about worshipping and imitating the Lord of All who was the SERVANT of All.

A treat at the end of the book is Wright's dealing with the present question of third world debt.

A great read.

THE CHALLENGE OF JESUS AS LORD
Helpful Votes: 61 out of 65 total.
Review Date: 1999-12-30
In his Preface, Wright states the thesis for his book: that to celebrate the Millennium does not mean preparing for the end of the world, but saying to our world what the calendar was designed to say in its day: Jesus is Lord. He begins the book with an explanation of the origin of our present calendar, proposed by Dionysius around 500 AD to mark time in which Jesus reigns as King. He includes an excellent discussion of the dating problems involved, and offers a very brief review of various interpretations of the thousand years of Jesus' reign, based on Revelation 20.

Next, he summaries the main reasons for his argument that January 1, 2000 has nothing to do with anything in biblical prophecy: 1) the calendar was invented in the sixth century and got the date wrong; 2) the calendar dates from the conception of Jesus, but the reign began from his resurrection; 3) even assuming no problem in the dating, and allowing for prophecy, that event would have occurred around 1030 AD; etc.

In the chapter on "Apocalypse Now?" Wright has an excellent discussion, in popularized and easy to read language, of the meaning of Apocalyptic language, extremely well illustrated. He also has a very brief but helpful discussion of heaven and earth and their mutual relation, and of Christian future hope.

The third and fourth chapters are full of comparisons of Christian faith and modern and postmodern thinking. Chapter four contains basic characterizations of the Christian "story" such as we find in Wright's other works (e.g. NTPG & JVG). The final chapter is a recommendation on how to properly celebrate the Millennium, with an extended treatment of the theme of Jubilee, in which Wright proposes that we begin to live out the reality of our faith as Jesus' first followers did, in a community in which everything is shared and none are in want!

In view of Wright's treatment (or lack) of the resurrection of Jesus in his other writings, many have queried how he really thinks about it, but it is a theme he stresses throughout this little tract, and upon which he bases the Lordship of Jesus. Without the resurrection no Jesus, no Jesus, no Millennium; and without him the world would date itself--but, Oh, what a different world it would be....

The Millennium Myth: The Ever-Ending Story
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2001-03-10
Excitement and anticipation at the advent of a new millennium is nothing new. In The Millennium Myth: The Ever-Ending Story, Sean M. O'Shea and Meryl A. Walker trace end-of-the-world and new-beginning rituals from their prehistoric origins to current times.

O'Shea and Walker point out that "in the many cycles that our ancestors witnessed and experienced {day and night, the crop cycle, the four seasons, or life and death}, they were far too astute to miss the corresponding application to their entire world: someday it too will end." They define millennium as referring "to the end of the current age" with the implication that the transition from one age to the next "is marked by events of the most horrible nature: an apocalypse."

The authors' analyses of each major religion shows how cultural beliefs about the end of the world and new beginnings are woven into the tapestry of worship. They also show how millennial beliefs made their way into fairy tales and folklore, and how those beliefs affected the daily lives of ordinary people.

The chapter on contemporary America discusses the rapid technological advances made in the past hundred years, the "psychic apocalypse" of mass genocide, the development of our ability to totally destroy the world with nuclear weapons, and the proliferation of deadly diseases like AIDS. In life today, "there is no safe haven," leading some people into cults or following messiahs like David Koresh or Jim Jones.

The final chapter deals with prophesy. As man is aware that the world must sometime end, "his ongoing concern [can be] confined to a single question: When?" Prophesy attempts to provide an answer to that question. Millennial prophesies include those of Nostradamus, and the Bible Code.

The Millennium Myth is a scholarly work, heavily annotated. Each chapter has its own bibliography. It will appeal to readers wanting a broad perspective on millennial beliefs through the ages.

The "Millennium Myth"offers an outstandingly thorough and interesting exploration of this impending historical phenomenon that holds fascination and wonderment for us all . It is an eye-opening presentation of both the origins and potential of this occurrence, from virtually every perspective -cultural, political, religious, psychological and social.

Thoroughly researched and documented, it is at the same time compellingly narrated, intelligently organized, and beautifully phrased. In short, a literary and scholarly triumph for these talented young authors.

We --as a humanity, a society, a culture-- are living in a time of great uncertainty. Although technology and science are providing us with giant steps, these distinctly human concepts are overshadowed by a universal unknown-- the great sceptor of time. The authors have done a fabulous job of interpreting our unknown fears of the new millenium and given us the history behind this fear. I recommend this exciting book, and in fact am considering using it for a history course here at Osaka University.

Hello, Friend. We have all heard the following paradigm: "GOOD-FAST-CHEAP: CHOOSE ANY TWO". With Colvin's work, thankfully, one receives all three. Let's break this one down for any spreadsheet mavens that may be reading this riff. Consider the following: Your HVAC unit[s] crap[s] out prior to [or during] an extreme weather scenario. Just try to find a technician who will fix your predicament in a timely fashion while coming under budget. Not to mention the fact that you will probably be paying $60 [or more] per hour. Now, contrast this with the $30 you will be spending for Colvin's high weirdness and revelatory missives, which will no doubt mend and/or challenge your psyche. [Not to mention the hours of entertainment one will experience in the wealth of diverse imagery sure to challenge the likes of any Diane Arbus fan and redefine the role of the artist in today's society] If you live in the U.S. of A., you will need a soul cleansing. I should know... I live in the midwest territory, where one can recall the glory of the Mayan empire and everything occurs ten years later... Fortunately, the present moment is infinite... Anyway, buy the book, strike a pose, fill your nose with Chiquita byproduct and buckle your chinstrap... Also, remember to breathe and avoid run-on sentences!

These photos tell an intricately woven multi-layered story.

"The Mothman's Photographer" is absolutely one of the best examples of investigative photo reporting I've ever seen. Colvin paints a fascinating socio-political/paranormal collage with haunting images that draw the viewer into each individual picture like a magical doorway. He compiles so much information into this beautiful book that you will feel compelled to view it over and over again. I have found it to be a wonderful book of reference that I can return to like an oracle to help evoke hidden patterns of meaning in my own 'reality'. Anyone looking for a completely unique and intensely personal experience of the Mothman phenomenon will find what they are seeking here. This book is a must-have companion to "The Mothman's Photographer" DVD's.

the psychic underbelly

Review Date: 2006-12-29
Imagine you have placed a psychic filter on your senses and traveled thru the world taking in the minutia of daily life. What you would see is a world where every landscape, every situation, every fragment of life exists in a web of previously unrealized interconnections. The Mothman's Photographer is a glimpse of such a world. This collection is really quite admirable in its relentless, single-mindedly driven unearthing of the psychic underbelly of the world we live in. Taken as a whole (and reading the notes and descriptions provided by the artist) the collected images meld into a collage emoting one man's quest for meaning in the seeming detritus of our world.

Considering the natural limitations of the book format (size), the images evocatively weave together a chronicle of related artifacts and observances from the artist's life and travels. I look forward to seeing these images presented in a gallery setting where I can imagine the power of the works would be even further enhanced by larger image formats and room to relate the images in smaller and intimately evocative groupings. I'm sure such an on site treatment would take the strength of the book's presentation and render the artist's vision in an even more oblique and involving meditation on our world of shadows.

This book sneaks up on you and encircles you in the potent evocations of this singular artist's vision. We can all look forward to enveloping ourselves in these images in the future.

Enlightening Observations from All of History

In this book, people who have read alot into Native American history will see the more famous Indian testimonials that have appeared in many other places, like those by heavily published persons like Black Elk, Tecumseh, and Charles Eastman (Sioux). You also get many anonymous accounts and the testimony from obscure persons who were only known to give their thoughts to a few white people. What sets this book above the rest, however, is that it doesn't just cover the time periods that are shown in most Native American histories, which would either be ancient pre-European times, or the famous era of the Indians' destruction and valiant efforts to maintain the old ways of life. This book also covers those areas, as it should, but continues into the modern reservation days, and even captures the thoughts of recent activists on the future of Native Americans. All people will be enlightened by the non-Western interpretations on history, religion, politics, and culture that are generously detailed in this book.

Nabokov has done a superb job of collecting individual Native American memoirs from the last half millenium and weaving them together to paint the sad portrait of Indian-White relations. In between the tales from each successive time period in history is enlightening commentary, usually an historical overview of the period written by the editor. These commentaries help give a unity to this work. But this is not simply a bad guys vs. good guys book. Nabokov's stories reflect the complexity involved among Native Americans who frequently disagreed with each other about what would be the best path to trod for all concerned; and they also tell the stories of proud peoples who continued to survive and carry on. This book illuminates history in a way that most school textbooks do not.

I truly understood every word written by the author,
regarding the events that she claims will take place
in our lifetime.
I am amazed that the Christian Bookstores haven't
stocked their shelves with this book.
There have been so many books written about the last
days, but this writer paints a picture of the sorrows
that will touch everyones life. As a medical Doctor, I have
witnessed people dying without the knowledge of God. Their
families grieve and cannot understand that there is Hope and
Love when they make Jesus their Lord.
I wonder how many people will not recognize the signs of
the Lord's Second Coming and miss the Rapture?
This book really simplifies the Book of Revelation. I will
purchase many books to give to my family and friends for
Christmas gifts.

I found this book very interesting, and uniquely written. The writer took the Book of Revelations and explained in detail all
the judgments that will befall us in the very near future.
She explains the Tribulation and tell who the False Prophet will
be. This book warns people to be prepared to face death, even thought you won't know the hour or the day.
She asks questions that are meaningful, and that make me stop and think about my own life. I am grateful that someone took the time to write such a profound book. I recommend every family should read it and enjoy what God has given us. After 9/11 this
book shows that we should love one another now, because tomorrow is not a sure thing anymore.
