FILM CULTURE has no regular financial backing and a new issue is published only after we collect (from subscriptions, back issues, private gifts, etc.) enough money to pay the printer for the previous issue.
We have had years when we've been able to bring out four issues, and we've also had years when we barely managed to collect enough money to bring out one issue.
But our dedication and persistence remain unfailing.

We have brought out over sixty issues and, of course, we'll bring out another sixty.
We are asking our subscribers to understand the independent publishing problems and not to flood us with letters of complaint, no matter how many months there are between the issues.
Do not despair: a new issue always appears!

Subscriptions to FILM CULTURE are not by the year but by the number of issues published. Four consecutive issues cost $8.00 in the United States, $10.00 elsewhere.

This book is about the adventures of a taxi driver. Reid's day job is a freelance court reporter and night job is a cab driver. He details the colorful life of a cabbie in the Twin Cities in the sometimes mean and surprising nights of the Twin Cities over the last six years.

Reid, a 1977 graduate of St. Louis Park Senior High School and a 1981 graduate of the court reporting program of Rasmussen School of Business, answers most of the questions of how to make money as a cab driver as well as how to stay out of most trouble in the taxicab business.

There are many interesting and exciting cab stories in the book, but it ends with the commentary that there are "endless stories to tell" and a promise that if the book sells, he will write more!

The decline of Canada's health system-the full story

Colleen Fuller gives the reader the history of the Canadian medicare system from the Canada Health Act .and even before. She then chronicles how it is now starting to fall apart, and who is responsible. Most Canadians will find this book an eye opener because it will all seem so new to them. They are not used to getting bills for medical services rendered in their lifetime ,and in most provinces the people are walking around half dazed and feel helpless. This book will arm them with some valuable information. It is written by a truly dedicated professional. As a medical/health Journalist I read and write a lot of stuff, but I rarely write reviews. I was moved to do so for this wonderful book.

Cash Profits in Foreclosures, forced sales, and other bargain priced properties

This course discusses the "hidden market", foreclosures, forced sales and other bargain priced properties. What exactly is the "hiddenmarket?" It could also be called the wholesale market where investors go bargain hunting and buy properties at deep, deep discounts.

Givens says that there are four main reasons for buying these types of properties:

1) You can pick up these properties for as little as .50c on
the dollar. Buy low/Sell high.

2) Relative lack of competition.

3) Stability. Never ending supplyof properties.

4) Win/Win. You help out distressed sellers who are crying for
your help.

This course/book is the most complete in the series. My interest in real estate was piqued with Bob Allen's excellent book "Nothing Down." A book I strongly recommend to all aspiring real estate investors. One problem with Allen's book is what he doesn't tell you. Unfortunately, he would need a much larger book. These course/books by Givens picks up where Allen leaves off and refreshes you on what Allen and other Nothing Down authors already reveal.

Givens even offers infomration on how to check your local area for the best strategies with an easy to use chart. He calls it market segmentation. Givens also reveals 12 techniques to make money on every purchase you make. Includes forms to use with the strategies, a form and information on how to research your local courthouse and more.

There a chapter on "flipping properties", a technique I used in 1992 and made a quick $10,000 profit on. I know it works. Givens concludes this course with a 6 month plan.

These are the techniques used by successful investors. I recently dusted off these courses and ready to use these powerful techniques again.

It's your choice. You can pay retail or wholesale. You can buy high or buy low. Many people who are using these technques are buying real estate for less than .50c on the dollar. Some builders indicate that they can't even buy the material for what we can buy houses for! If that doesn't excite you, then your wood is all wet!

How Charles Givens really created his wealth
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2005-09-28
Charles Givens is mostly known for his outstanding financial strategies. I wonder how many people know that Givens created his wealth through real estate? Starting with a condominium investment in the early 1970s, Givens went on to amass a fortune in real estate holdings worth in excess of over $100 million dollars of shopping centers, office buildings, medical centers, bank buildings and sports facilities.

Of the 60 businesses that Givens owned, more than 45 were involved in real estate development, acquisition, mortgage banking and management.

In Real Profits in Real Estate, you will learnt he basics of building your real estate business. You will learn why real estate is such a powerful investment.

Some of what Givens says you may not agree with. For example, he recommends that you buy real estate with as little of your own money as possible, including your home. As Givens says, "The lower your down payment, the better your investment."

Some of what Givens covers here has been covered by other authors as well (Robert Allen) and much is new. Givens discloses his own unique No Money Down techniques as well as what to do when you have negative cash flow.

This along with four other books used to come as part of Givens $1,500 real estate seminar. Some seminars are offering a similiar program today for over $5,000.

This information helped Charles Givens create a $100 million fortune, so it is worth a look.

A little volume with a big payoff for practitioners.

"Hank Rubin is at it again. Collaboration Skills for Educators and Nonprofit Leaders, the first in his "Building the Village" series, is a little volume with a potentially big payoff for thoughtful practitioners at the central office, in the principal's chair or in the classroom. This is a book that can be the basis for collaborative efforts with volunteers, corporate partners and employee groups. This is not a book for Lone Rangers or for those who are cynical about the true value of and need for collaborative leadership. Author Hank Rubin is a successful practitioner, community activist, teacher, theorist and collaborative leader himself. He brings to us the elements of effective collaborative leadership, not from large complex corporate organizations, but from the perspective of the world in which you and I apply our leadership knowledge and skills. In doing so, Rubin presents practical dimensions of collaborative leadership that stress the need to build, manage and maintain relationships with other leaders in our communities. The focus here is on accomplishing tangible results, making a difference and completing our work in the public realm. Rubin sees our jobs as revolving "around building villages of support to raise children." His book can help us be successful in that mission."
