Hello! I have been a nurse for 4 years but I remember how terribly stressful it was to prepare for the boards!!! Relax, take a deep breath and buy this book! Out of all the books I had this one was the best. It gave you strategies to remember things, it went through each section of nursing that is covered on the boards with clarity (only focusing on really what you need to pass) and it had questions that most resembled those that were on the NCLEX. It also has a great section on all the pharmocology that you need to know. Every time that I meet someone who is about to take the boards I recommend this book. As I said, it saved my life!!!!
The best I have seen.

I took his NCLEX review in Boston, and I don't recall that Don mentioned this book. Needless to say, the five-day class was fine, and he had a handout for the class. But the five day class was way too fast to get it all down on paper, so having this book (I found it in a library) and reviewing all the points at my own pace really works. I wish he had the third edition published so I could use it.

Herbert Ford succeeded to write an original book about World War II. His heros John Weidner created an underground network as soon as 1940 and saved a thousand people (Allied pilots gunned down by the Nazis and Jews) without ever wearing a weapon. The great originality of the network Dutch-Paris is its high morale standards and its efficiency in making fugitives escape occupied France, Belgium and Netherlands towards Switzerland and Spain. A great book about an unusual heroe that deserves to be better known.
Excellent and inspirational book.

This book is very touching, inspirational, and gripping. It follows the experience of one man who would do anything to free as many Jews as possible in the Holocaust. It talks about those who helped him in his efforts, and how he himself escaped some very scary situations with the Lord's help. Everyone should read this book!

I love this book. The art is a great addition. Such a lot of work and good reading went into this unique reference work. Kister made his reputation studying and reporting on the quality of reference works. So, as you would expect, the book's design is flawless. You can get addicted to reading the samples he has chosen to include from each book.
I learned more about the history and lore of Florida in fifteen minutes reading this book than I did living there for eight years! This book is like rich food. So much information so quickly.

A connoisseur's pleasure-filled guide to fiction set in Florida

Kenneth F. Kister, who in his previous books established himself as a reliable, indeed an indispensable, authority on encyclopedias, dictionaries, and atlases, as well as a compelling biographer ("Eric Moon"), has now undertaken in "FLORIDA ON THE BOIL: Recommended Novels and Short-Story Collections Set in the Sunshine State" a surprising and, as it turns out, an abundantly rich and important guide to fiction that is set in Florida.
In brief, witty and wonderfully concentrated essay-reviews, Kister displays an unerring feel for the quiddity (the essential qualities and flavors) of some 300 novels and story collections, and along the way he also alludes to or describes a comparable number of other pertinent writers and books.
Some of the writers that Kister assays are well-known-to-famous: Carl Hiaasen, Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, John Updike ("Rabbit At Rest"), Thomas McGuane ("Ninety-Two in the Shade"), Elmore Leonard, John D. MacDonald, Harry Crews, Ernest Hemingway, and Peter Matthiessen, to name a few; and some of his subjects, such as Alison Lurie, Christina Garcia, and Zora Neale Hurston, are admired by the literati but are perhaps a bit less widely known than they ought to be. So Kister's essays are likely either to enhance his readers' appreciation of many writers or introduce them to writers and works they will want to know.
In addition to being a pleasure to read, the book, which is beautifully designed, includes a fine introductory discussion of the nature and history of fiction set in Florida, a selective bibliography, and it's miraculously easy to navigate thanks to an index that is searchable not only by title and author, but also by specific locales (e.g., Key West, Miami, northwest Florida, etc.), subject matter (e.g., marriage and marital problems; drugs and drug trafficking; environment, etc.) and genre (e.g., mysteries, thrillers and crime; romance novels and stories; sex and sex crimes, etc.); and as a charming bonus several of the entries are enhanced with evocative caricatures of the writers drawn by the award-winning Tampa Tribune illustrator David O'Keefe.

Helen's book gives the firsthand accounts of flight attendants, from the first stewardesses hired by the precursor to United Airlines, up to present day Flight Attendants. Chock full of photos from the private collections of each attendant. Excellent background on the industry, it's changes and history.

A must have for anyone aspiring to a career in Flight Service. The rare photos reveal the incredible changes that have taken place in the airlne industry. It was once necessary to first be a nurse to even apply for "Stewardess training "! Soon teachers were accepted too. Age, HT/WT requirements abounded. Also included are interviews with Flight Attendants involved in hi-jackings, and other in-flight emergencies. There are recollections of both tragedy and high (up) courage. Be it for the coffee table, library, or career resource center, FOOTSTEPS IN THE SKY fits the bill!

I find it striking that there are so many dumb people in the world. Like the person who wrote the review of this book and said "it's better than The Godfather...Mario Puzzo does an excellent job"! First, Editors Nick Browne & Horton Andrew wrote this book -- NOT MARIO PUZZO! Secondly, it analyzes the trilogy -- it's not an addition to the trilogy -- and thirdly, quit writing reviews about stuff you don't know. That's something I cannot understand, you write about something you know nothing about!

I could not stop turning the pages! I read & re-read the book, and I am still completly compelled with the Godfather! Much better than the movies! This is simply one of the best novels that has ever been written. It can hold its own among some of the greatest writers in history. Truly the defining novel of its genre. Mario Puzo has written the perfect novel and I for one will never forget his work.

This is the latest edition of a book that has been on the market approximately forever, and is used in a zillion schools and colleges. There is a good reason for this. While too challenging for novices, this is the one book you need to cover grammar in the broadest sense and vocabulary up through the advanced level. It is clear, straightforward, and is the benchmark against which others muct be measured. I was stunned to see that it was not carried by my local Borders.

If you need help in your French class, or you want to review over French grammar, then this is the book for you. The explanations are clear and easy to understand, the exercises are wonderful. This book will get you through the basics and past an intermediate/advanced level. This is an especially good book for tutoring and practice. As a French teacher, I often pull ideas and exercises from this book to help students better understand difficult concepts.

This mammoth, all-inclusive history of American film in the 1930's with almost 200 stills, portraits, and other photographs examines the film output of that legendary decade in its entirely - five thousand movies, most of them personally screened by the author. His skillful division of this mass of cinema into fifty distinct genres - gangster films, horror films, spy pictures, screwball comedies, campus capers, and westerns among them - combines fun criticism, facts, trivia, and social history re-creates a fascinating era for the movie nut, film buff, and cinema scholar. It is the essential volume on that memorable decade and its golden legacy.

I have loved this book for almost 25 years now!! It is the most enjoyable, most informative book ever written by a single author on an era in motion pictures and how lucky we are that it was written on the greatest era of films, the 1930's!! It's a huge book packed with information and commentary on films of the era. What is truly astonishing is that the author wrote this book on superb history and criticism on these era of films years before Turner Classic Movies and American Movie Classics were on the air, primarily from local television airings, revival houses in New York, and research!! Wonderfully packed with information and highly readable, by the time you finish this book you will rightfully feel you can hold your own with anyone if the topic in 1930's Hollywood films. There aren't that many photographs, but you can easily get that elsewhere, finding such superb detailed yet unpretentious writing on the period is the true attraction. Dooley truly enjoys the films of the era but he is not blind to the failings of weaker films or films that no longer hold up (and you will be quite grateful that he rarely gives away "spoilers" when discussing the films unlike many a historian). He writes with appreciation of the pace of the films, the sharp dialogue and charismatic performances of these superb films which he bluntly (and truthfully!) states was Hollywood's finest era. What a shame the talented Mr. Dooley, a novelist, never again wrote a book on film history because he truly takes his place with the greats on the basis on this single volume. If you love "classic movies" you can be certain you will love this book!

I bought this book and no other book for review prior to my LPN boards. I reviewed the book and broke it down into parts (the book is random information). It seemed like every question that came up was in this book. I have recommended it (and its companion book for RN's ) to everyone I know taking the tests. It is simply the best source of info: I've even used both books while on duty to as a quick resource. Good luck to all taking the Boards.

This is a very appealing cookbook for kids. Right off the bat my children were attracted to it because of the humorous, cartoon-like drawings that are sprinkled throughout. It is very easy to read and the recipes simple to do. Finally, the book is bound within a spiral notebook style so it can lay flat and is easy to handle. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a simple, starter cookbook for their budding chef!
Following a cute section entitled All About Me, come Steps to Good Health and Kitchen Safety. The recipes are separated by categories. They include: Fun with Fruit, Nuts and Bolts, Bread, Grains and Stuff, Vegetable Parade and Vegetarian Delights. It ends with Cloudy Day Fun which gives lots of neat ideas like pudding fingerpaints and making a chef's hat!
Each recipe is only one page long so it is easy to read and nicely spaced. Every page is illustrated with bright colors and humorous characters that depict the recipe. The author has done an exceptional job in laying out the recipe! A new reader could even follow along. First, there is always a cartoon guy carrying a sign saying "Adult Help Needed" if it applys. Then the author outlines each recipe in this clever pattern: READ the recipe, READY-get your cooking tools, SET the ingredients, GO-follow the directions! Finally she gives the cook some cute serving ideas.
This cookbook is just like what it's title implies...a lot of FUN! Any child interested in cooking vegetarian would enjoy using this cookbook. The recipes are easy to read, simple to do and offer a lot of success!
(FYI - The cookbook has religious undertones in its "Steps to A Good Health" Section as well as some advertisements in the back.)-Denise Steele Darnell

The rise of the popular gangster film genre began in the early 1930s to reflect the real history and rise of gangsterism in American society, producing early classics which would be released back to back, were modeled on newspaper and real-life situations, and which would bring gangsterism to the public eye by defining and surveying notorious personalities and groups. GANGSTER FILM READER reviews the genre through reprints of key articles, new essays and critical analysis produced for this collection, and over 200 original photos. Film libraries will consider it a 'must', while many a college-level library on social issues will also find the topic relevant to 20th century American history discussions.
