In addition to being a great book for "broadcasters, event planners and advertisers" as noted in the publisher's review, Chases Calendar of Events is a great resource for anyone working in education (At any level)! Working in residence life, it is an excellent resource for programming, or simply for "random trivia" in newsletters or on bulletin boards. If you have a unique or original holiday, you can also have it included. (For example, 2 years ago, we started "International Residence Hall Student Staff Recognition Day," and it is now included in the annual publication and is being recognized worldwide).

I would highly recommend this book!

Probably not a handy reference for everyone, but it is a standard in newspaper offices. Lists all sorts of events internationally, famous birthdays, anniversaries of the most obscure things. Lots of fun for some of us!

Click or Treat provides a smorgasbord of Halloween & Horror, internet-style. Whether you are a budget conscious parent, a paranormal researcher, or someone just surfing for some good sites and laughs you will find something for you in this book. The Internet by its very nature is an ever changing thing but I found very few dead links in Click or Treat and highly recommend this book.

There is no better source than the CLMP for publishing literary work. I have used it since 2001. The information is accurate and up to date, and every serious writer should own a copy, a new copy, each year.

I highly recommend this book.

This Directory is a great resource for any serious creative writer - certainly it's a great addition to this poet's reference shelf. It presents listings for LITERARY publications, weeding out commercial places that prefer rhyming jingles to sestinas so my time isn't wasted pawing through pages of inappropriate nonsense. Good information including how each publication is distributed and when the reading periods are is very helpful. I also find the various indices useful for finding information quickly. The online journals also listed in the Directory are another great resource... highly recommended!

This book has the statistics and brief explanations on about 3000 undergraduate programs. It is a very good reference for the hard facts on the programs that one is interested in. The SAT preparation software that comes with the book is not spectacular, but the book itself is worth buying.

"The College Board Handbook" is a great general guide that stands with the best of them. I will recommend this to those who come to me, along with a number of other college reviews, and my pet favorite for kids to learn about character and leadership education and the true value of education to America, "West Point: Character Leadership Education: Thomas Jefferson" by Norman Thomas Remick.

I find the College Board Guide to 150 Popular Majors valuable in my work with college bound high school students. The information on each major includes interests and skills a student might possess, which are associated with success in this major. It recommends high school courses, which would be beneficial to a student considering a specific major, lists the college courses commonly required for the major, and careers associated with the degree. Alternative majors in the area are also suggested. We use this resource as a first step in our college selection process.

When you check out the colleges in this book, be sure to also check out West Point. It's the best kept secret. To learn more about it, get the book, "West Point: Character, Leadership..." by Norman Thomas Remick in addition to "The College Board .. Book".

This is a great arrangement. The book is almost unnecessary. Just plop the CD in your computer, fill out the personal survey and the program gives you a list of all the scholarships (that college board has in the book) that pertain to you - as you described your history and interests in the survey. It tells you the basic info, due dates, etc. THEN you can link by internet to the scholarship site to get the full story if you think you qualify for that particular scholarship. Many applications are online and you can download or submit directly. This is terrific.

Architects need this book

There are few professions that have as much potential as architecture and city planning to take advantage of the Net. This book is the best general introduction to the Web for people in the design professions. Cohen patiently explains the concepts in a way that his fellow architects can understand and apply. I was especially impressed with the chapters on participatory planning and design. This book is very well written and illustrated.

Unique in focus - great read!

This is a unique book, catering to architects, engineers, land-use planners and other professionals in related fields. Although part of the book is about web-site design and site management issues (which is covered in many books), the author presents the information very well - in fact, the quality of the editing, formatting and illustrations is great - done with a lot of care.

The chapters which really caught my interest were those relating to community planning - especially the one about participatory community planning. This is an application with a lot of potential, where 'the web-site' could unleash a number of other novel communication tools (e.g. environmental simulation - my area of expertise).

I highly recommend this book to anyone involved in community/land-use development or resource management. It is a great source of ideas.

Free Advice For Everyone Who Is Looking At Colleges

Why go to college? Is it to put off working? To have a fun time? Are you serious? Do you really understand? Is it --- just the thing to do? Did you know you can learn everything you need to by reading independently? Why don't we just do it like they do in France ---show up the first day, do all the study independently, show up for the exam at the end? The "Complete Book Of Colleges" is great. But, it doesn't answer the above types of questions about what this whole higher education thing is really all about --- what America's founding fathers, especially all-time education guru Thomas Jefferson, said was critical for college to accomplish for both you and America. So, let me give you a free heads up that will help you to understand, make the right decision, and save you from making a life-altering mistake down the road. Before doing anything, I recommend you first read the only book about understanding college --- "West Point", by Norman Thomas Remick. It's a book that explains in simple language , through Thomas Jefferson's founding of West Point (hence, the title), the reasons for having colleges in America. It brought all the questions about higher education into clear focus for me. For the first time, even as a professional, I really understand what it's all about. So will you. The book could have been called, "Life's Most Important Questions, Answered". It's the first book every college seeker, and college advisor, should read. Once you have a correct and intelligent perspective on college, then go through the great 5-star reference, "Complete Book Of Colleges", and find the right college for you.

I remember the uncertainty of the college search... Being the eldest of three children I did not know where to begin my quest for the perfect college. Frustrated by the lackluster quality of my overworked and underpaid guidance counselor, I sought an answer based upon one of the most prestigious and trustworthy names in the world of college reviews. The Princeton Review has quantitatively and qualitatively laid down the facts and fictions of individual colleges and universities throughout the United States of America. This comprehensive and full-scale review of institutions of learning provides even the most uncertain or apprehensive student with vital information to help facilitate the all-important college selection. I highly recommend this invaluable resource for anyone embarking on the first steps to obtaining the goal of higher education.

The authors worked hard - and it shows. While many booky on the subject avoid comparisons to other naming services, this book starts to tell you about directory services in general, then mentions and explains other implementations, teaches you X.500 on top of that

And that was only part I.

Part II tells you almost everything you might want to know about NDS - stuff covered in the manuals and the CNE Study kits, plus lots of additional material. Compact, understandable, consistent.

Finally, part III tells us about NDS extensions for a lot of hot products (BorderManager is already in there, so is RADIUS and Oracle), followed by an introduction to third-party utilities. Finally, we have a good treatment on NDS for Windows NT and the book closes with an outlook : "The Future of NDS", where you'll learn that Novell actually built a 2.000.000 user NDS tree once...

Why a 9 ?

It claims to be the "Complete Guide to Novell Directory Services" - and it comes VERY close.
