Scott's books are and excellent start up to those testing the waters, Even though te book needs some updating since he last wrote it before he died. The recipe's are great but the oil recipe's are only usefull if your making a dram size bottle. Eventually you'll beable to improve his recipes and change things when you get a better idea about plants and their uses in magic and healing. Keep in mind His book does not contain traditional recipes on oils, incence, powdersetc you'll find in occult shops the magical formulary is a good book for that(again trial and error)

I've read and reviewed many of Cunningham's other books, so it was no surprise that I really enjoyed this one as well. It was a great introduction, and really had a great selections of blends. One of the things I love the most and I use the book for the most is the substitution list. Some ingredients are pretty exotic or expensive, it's nice to know that you can use something else and still get desired results.

GREAT BOOK!

I am very pleased with this book. Not only does it give you the recipes you need, but it also teaches you how to create your own recipes and gives good substitution examples. This is the best natural magic book I have ever seen.

Classic guide on using subconscious motivation
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2007-12-19
The subconscious mind is a colossal dynamo. Throughout history, great rulers, warriors, statesmen, inventors, writers, artists, poets and religious leaders have used it to attain their objectives. You, too, can put your mind's remarkable force to work. In this enduringly popular, updated 1948 classic, Claude M. Bristol asserts that if you firmly believe that you can be successful, and remind yourself of this belief, over and over, you will succeed. His book is filled with colorful stories and anecdotes about people throughout history who used the power of belief to get what they wanted. He is a true believer that thinking about something the right way will make it happen. Many of Bristol's tales are intriguing, though some of his advice may seem a bit farfetched. For example, when guests overstay their welcome, try getting them to leave quickly by thinking, "Go home now, go home now, go home now." According to Bristol, if you formulate this thought when the conversation lulls and you can barely contain your yawns, "The results will astonish you." Whether or not this particular mind-control technique works, we recognize the lasting popularity of Bristol's inspirational book. For nearly 60 years, he has told people worldwide how to achieve their goals with the power of thought and attitude. Read it to learn his ideas on putting belief, imagination and suggestion to work for you.

Scott Cunningham is quite the writer! I loved this book, and have since allowed 3 friends to borrow it. And they love it too. I am just beginning wicca, and wanting to learn all I can right now. This book really put things in perspective for me. Taught me alot about the religion that I was not aware of. And also broadend what I did know. Most books that I have read on this subject, seem to go in circles with the author pushing his idea upon the reader. Scott Cunningham leaves it up to the reader to decide about the techniques he uses. A very pleasant approach for all beginners. I will be purchasing more books by Scott Cunningham.

I liked it, RESPECT MY OPINION!

I adore Scott Cunningham's work, and EAF&W is no exception. Although I love EARTH POWER as well, I like that EAF&W has more techniques and really helps the reader to understand how natural things are affected, and in turn, affect the elements. I love Cunningham's ability to show the reader that magic doesn't really need 50 candles and some expensive oil to be magic - all we have to do is remember our Earth and work with her - directly...that's what real magic is about.

not as good as "Earth Power" but still good

while I consider myself a christian and not pagan, some would argue that I practice some so-called pagan arts. For centuries my ancestors have practiced a sort of combination, if you will, of Catholic and native traditions. anyway, long story short ~ I like this book and while it doesn't really have any traditions my family would have practiced and mostly focuses on Old World (European) rites/traditions, I still find it interesting. it's not nearly as good as "Earth power" but a good read anyway. take it from me, Scott Cunningham is the perfect author for non-wiccans/pagans looking for good books on invoking the earth: nothing that offends unlike many others on the genre.

This book is.... ok. I know Cunningham's works are mostly for beginners however, this was simplistic even by most beginners standards. I was almost embarrassed to give it to a friend. To be honest she seemed excited at first then after thumbing through the book seemed mostly underwhelmed, though she tried not to show it.

Scott Cunningham has always been a fav for books relating to the craft, i have never liked the idea of working within a coven so his books have been great and encouraging for those who prefer to walk a solitary path.
Earth Power has lots of interesting ideas for becoming more in-tune and working with nature and the elements...I recommend getting earth, air, fire and water written by Scott Cunningham as well. This is not my favourite of his books but its still a good one, check his other books!!

If you're a fan of simple folk magic like I am, you will probably like this book. In it, it has many different cures and charms from gypsy lore and such, which is quite different from what is in the spellbook market today. I feel that the book could've been bigger, but the artwork and cover detailing added a nice touch to it.

Overall, this is a great gift for yourself or those who like old-fashioned folk magic and lore from outside of the US.

This is a nice little book of practical Romany spells that I cherish in my collection of spellbooks. It has become my first point of reference for a quick, simple spell. And they work! I generally practice candle-magic and the love spells using pink candles and charms worked particularly well for me. I found the love of my life and have been happily married for almost two years! The small size is manageable and the cloth cover is comfortable in my hands. The ribbon bookmarks are a charming (and useful) feature. It is an attractive book and easy to understand. My only criticism is that the book isn't long enough! Great for beginners as it utilizes simple items you might find around the house. As with all spell-casting, just remember to be careful what you cast for.

I decided to get this book after reading all the glowing reviews, and am glad I did. I am not a witch, or into doing spells, but I've always been interested in the occult. I get books like these just to toy around with the idea of doing a spell. If I feel it is a simple spell and does not harm anyone, I would do it. I have purchased a few other spell books, but none came as good as this one. First of all the book is so nicely laid out, it is very cute and has an old-world feel to it. I get the idea Ms. Kemp was going for. She wanted it to look classicaly and elegantly ancient. The cover is a very strong, hard cover. You can just tell that no expense was spared in the quality of making the book. It is not flimsy or cheap. Now what it is I really like about this book is, the spells are so simple AND there is such a wide variety! There are 5 sections: love, money, health, pets, wealth, and happiness. It has so many interesting, easy-to-do spells. I remember in the pet section, there was even a spell to heal your pet or return your lost pet. I searched for a while for a spell book that was easy and had good content and I finally found it in this lovely, little book! This will always be near me and I will treasure it to the day I die! I highly reccomend this book. You won't be dissapointed!

This was the first Kabbalah book that I read, definetely the right one, the subject being so new to me, since I am not Jewish, but Michael Berg writes so beautifully and it such simple words that I understood easily and so did my soul. It gave me a very good intro to Kabbalah, has beautiful stories about the Baalshemtov (a Tzadik, mystic, sage), it has the beautiful story about the white Angels, the black Angels and the grey Angels, after this story, I see dificulties in my life from a totally diferent perspective. This book talks about redemption, and God's mercy, and many more subjects that can only enrich your life!!! After this book I continue to read The Essential Zohar, the 72 names of God, which I meditate on frequently, and so on, the journey continues!!!

This is a very interesting book. I fully recommend it to anyone looking for spiritual answers. You may not agree with everything -- and that's OK. But take whatever you get from this book and simply make it yours. You don't have to become a follower of Kabbalah to put some of the ideas into practice. Try it. You may like it.

"The Way" -- with a title like that you'd think you were purchasing your very own spiritual epiphany. In less than one hundred pages if I remember correctly.

I actually picked this up when I was walking through the mall. I'd already been sort of curious about the subject, I've been studying Wicca and Buddhism for years and I'm always open to new ideas.

So as you might be able to imagine, I with my new found interest, curled up in a chair and began reading about "The Way". Oooh.
A mere 30 minutes later it was done. Nothing had been said in that thing that a teenager can't sit and think about on their own. For being a ten dollar book, this thing can seriously just as well serve as an intro to a much more thorough book. But then again that wouldn't make as much money. Had this been written out of passion it wouldn't have been so vague and brief.

Don't waste your time on this, or on anything written by the Bergs.

Kabbalah has a lot of great ideas and I still haven't given up hope, I'm still reading and looking for good writing. Someone give me something thought provoking and detail oriented.

I'm not a big fan of Scott Cunningham's writings.Yet,this was an interesting spellbook on house blessings. Many people will have a priest or pastor bless a house,to bane evil spirits away. This book is for those seeking a neo-pagan touch to this hearth tradition. There is some folklore information, but not much profound pagan history.I would still recommend this book.It has many good ritual ideas and makes a great house-warming present.Your rooms are your sacred spaces.Your living room, your bedroom, your kitchen and even your reading room ,all have a character of their own. One's personality is a strong force, during one's lifetime and after death. That's why we believe some buildings are haunted by spirits. The protective spells provide a buffer zone between our physical world to an outer spiritual level. And free any fettered soul onward ,toward a more peaceful destination. You can develop more elaborate and advanced rituals, using this fine book as a primer.

This is one of my favorite books in my library. I've given this as gifts many times, mostly to non-pagan but open minded friends. Everyone finds something that they they love about it. This isn't a 101, how-to, Wicca book. This book has ways to charm and improve every room and everyone in your home. It's a really fun, interesting, and inspiring read. I don't usually do spells and tell, but I will say that everything I've tried that this book has suggested has worked. Magical experience all around! I only wish there were more books out there like this one!!

This little gem may be filled with folklore, however, not all folklore is fiction! The information and methods presented in Cunningham's Magical Household maybe simple, and many generations old, however they are highly effective. Theres something in here for every practicioner. Great for a beginner, and a welcome addition to an experianced witches library. Included a simple ways to bless, protect, and enhance the magicality of the home. It includes chapters on pets, the bathroom, the kitchen, the garden, etc.

If I were only allowed to have three magic books, they would be Scott Cunningham's The Magical Household Magical Household: Spells & Rituals for the Home (Llewellyn's Practical Magick Series), Gerina Dunwich's Exploring Spellcraft Exploring Spellcraft, and Patricia Telesco's 365 Goddess 365 Goddess: A Daily Guide to the Magic and Inspiration of the Goddess.

The Magical Household is my favorite Scott Cunningham book. The index is painstakingly created to give you insight into every type of spell you could probably ever cast. I was amazed at how many mini-spells, as well as more complicated ones, were in this book. There is a small section on the use of herbs, as well as another on animals and their relationship to magic (listed by animal). There are charms, spells, correspondence information, purifications, blessings for objects, and recipes for incense (among other things).

Where this book really excels is in the old folklore and traditions handed down through generations to bless our homes, our pets, our families, and ourselves. Hence the title, Magical Household. It is easy to place five shiny pennies under your doorstep to bring wealth and prosperity into your home and it is equally easy to take a bath in salt water to purify yourself of negative thoughts. Little things like this make life steeped in tradition that you can hand down to your children and they really work. More importantly, they can be done by pagans, Wiccans, Christians, or other denominations. Prayer and magic have been around for centuries. No religion has cornered the market on prayer or ritual.

I find that among the many magical authors, Scott is my favorite. Perhaps it is because my daughters and I are solitary practitioners as well, or because we have affinities for animals, herbs, and our home as he did. Whatever the reason, his books are full of wonderful tidbits and painstakingly simple ways to enrich our lives.

There are mini-spells throughout and most do not involve exotic ingredients that would take years to find or complicated arrangements of your altar and items. If you are a huge Buckland fan, you would probably not appreciate the spells in this book, which are not grandiose and ceremonial. If you love Dorothy Morrison and Patricia Telesco, then you will love this book as well.

This book is truly a rare find. Get one while they're in print.

Superlative Reference

Review Date: 2008-05-22
While perhaps recently superseded by Skinner's "Complete Magician's Tables", this was the superlative magic(k)al reference since its first publication by Llewellyn over ten years ago. Herein lies an extensive summary of correspondences and content for most esoteric systems of both East and West. The volume is weighty, as one would expect of one with such ambitions, and the subject matter extensive, accessible and thoroughly researched. While predominantly intended as a magician's equivalent of a PDR, there is also a recommended course of study and extensive supplemental reading list - the latter interestingly not reflecting a substantial number of texts from the publisher, Llewellyn, and hence has a much more credible air. Also included is a list inspired by P.E.I. Bonewits' summary Laws of Magic from his book "Real Magic".

While Llewellyn has published some average works, this is one of the gems of the publishing house, and one for which ceremonial magicians of all traditions owe them a debt of gratitude.

I actually read through this entire book. It's mainly meant to be used as a resource guide, but in my personal opinion, anyone who wants to use it for that purpose should read through it once to get an idea of what Whitcomb covers. It is one of the most in-depth correspondance guides I've read. Whitcomb also offers coherent brief explanations on the various systems he writes about. Whether this book is for a beginner or an experienced it has something for everyone and should be one of the few books any magician is required to purchase.

I absolutely loved this book. She provides very detailed descriptions of each step of magical work, without involving any specific religion into the practice of the ritual. Although this book would be a great resource for those following a magical religion and wanting more information on magic, I liked the aspect that I was able to use it being without interests in the religious aspect.
This book also links psychology and magic, which I find to be very important. I think this book is great for starters more than any. It gives you the basic info you need and excellent references as to where to get more detailed information. This book is quite a bit more advanced than say Cunninghams Practical Solitary Wicca, but in more of a way of intelligence and letting the reader folumate his/her own ritual and style, instead of telling you exactly what to do and how to do it.

Best book I've read.

Everything that Nancy B. Watson teaches, WORKS! I was amazed. She displays the intelligent persepective of a true critical thinker. She is open minded to scientific explanations but does not ignorantly dismiss anything without valid evidence as many cowens do. It's the best book I've ever read on the subject of magic. This book is easy-to-read, well-written and accurate. It evalutates Jungian psychology without getting so bogged down in scientific jargon so as to lose the average reader. My only gripe is that she has only written this one book. I hope she writes more books of this quality.

To find your way to feri you don't need (or usually get) a road map--what you need is an open mind and a proud, loving heart. Working with this book helped me to find my way to being both proud of who I am, and to being better able to love those around me.

My grandmother used to say "The proof is in the pudding." I never understood what she was talking about until tonight. Some of the other reviews of this book complained about details of language, or other such surface things. But that's like complaining about a recipe without ever having made it or eaten the food based on that recipe. Let me tell you, I read the recipe that is this book, I cooked the recipe using the rituals in this book, and I am DELIGHTED with how the results taste! the proof of how good this book is can be found in the success people have had who worked through it. The proof is in the pudding.

A good starting point

The exercizes in this book are a good starting point on the path to the Goddess and to personal healing and transformation. It has been about three years since I last was working with this book, but every now and then I like to refer to it to get some ritual ideas. I found that I could not really hang on every word I read, but had to use a take it or leave it aproach. For the most part I enjoyed the subject matter. This book is better than most of the stuff out there but is not quite precious gem quality.

This is the REAL thing!

After working through the year long training in this book, I have found myself less stressed out, more focused, and more in charge of my own life. There are a lot of meditation books out there, but this book is different in that it promotes practical rituals and meditations that don't require a lot of accoutrements to get the job done. Francesca speaks to the heart and makes spirituality accessible. You won't find lists of boring facts in this book. It is not a reference work, but a true training in the Craft.
I recommend it highly and with total enthusiasm for the dedicated Seeker. It is not your average "teen witch" book. There is deep healing here, and the author focuses on what really counts. Very readable and very do-able.

Francesca is a poet, a shaman, and a wonderful teacher!

A little over four years ago, I worked through the 15 weeks of lessons in Francesca's first book, Be a Goddess: A Guide to Celtic Spells and Wisdom for Self-Healing, Prosperity, and Great Sex, and found, to my great surprise and pleasure, that these lessons were fun, inspiring, and, most of all, life-transforming. The psychology was sound, the spirituality was amazing, and the teacher was warm and caring.

With the very positive experience I had working through Be a Goddess, I was very excited when Goddess Initiation was released. Designed to take a little more than a year to work through, Goddess Initiation has even more to offer than its predecessor. I didn't think that was possible!

Goddess Initiation is essentially a workbook to help you gain personal insights, remove your inner blocks to joy and healthy sexuality, and discover your own creative passion for living. A shamanic method of self-empowerment and spiritual growth, the tools in this book are valuable regardless of your gender, sexual preference, or cultural or religious background. Francesca says, "Mine is an interfaith Goddess, who is perfectly happy helping all people regardless of their religious beliefs or lack thereof."

Francesca is warm, intuitive, and truly magical! As someone who has not only worked through her books but has also worked extensively with her in person, I can tell you that the work she presents in her books is a result of many, many years of dedication to the Old Gods and to helping her students, her readers, and anyone else who comes into her sphere of influence to develop their innate talents, spiritual growth, and healthy self-esteem.
